Yes its beginning to seem like it, and we had a good relationship oo. Money sha. He sent pictures of a chipped boiler cabinet and I have got clear pictures of the same cabinet not chipped at all which seemed shady.

He even took pictures of these blue stains in the bath tub which was caused by his own use of copper pipe and ph value of the water in the area. Guess because it was new build he wanted us to return it in the same condition almost 2years after.

Thanks for the link

The problem with retouching, is the inconsistencies..... The landlord might have to repaint the whole section.......

Some LL also get professionals to clean after each tenant, if the clean up exercise, was not up to their standards.......

Did you take pictures & videos, prior to vacating property?...... huh

Have you disputed the LL claims, via the deposit scheme?.....?
We even tried to repaint most section and it wasn't too obvious. We took pictures but not video (mistake on my part). Because we had direct relationship with the LL, we went to drop the keys and he visited several days after.

Now some of the pictures he sent after 13days of dropping the keys differs from what we took.

He sent the pictures for us to defend ourselves grin grin, hasn't sent any quotes whatsoever.

The only major thing we caused was just one rug/window stain we forgot to remove in one of the bedrooms but the link on Homelet categorise this as fair wear and tear.

https://homelet.co.uk/landlord-insurance/landlord-lowdown-blog/article/wear-and-tear-what-is-deemed-acceptable. Just want to have more ammunition before firing our response.

@All, Please does anyone have a link to an official list of fair wear and tear in the case of settling a deposit dispute. I got one from Homelet and not any other website. My LL sent some pictures of some scruff marks on the wall and door.

Also, should we be agreeing to cleaning charges being deducted despite the house was thoroughly cleaned before we moved and even retouched painting in some areas.

Wow £660 .... chei london is really expensive ooo. £660 a month per child would have been fabulous for a twin mama

Also, what is the cost of living like in the U.K? Including children's school fees, and other expenses? Is it so high and unbearable? I'd like to know how much I should be expecting to spend weekly/monthly
This will depend on so many factors, where you plan to stay, work and age of the kids involved.

You don't pay fees for kids above 5 to 16 unless you want to go private. Also for kids below 5, nursery fees in London can be from £1k pounds per month while for a place in Midlands can be £660 to £750 per month.

All in all its not too bad if there is a reasonable source of income.

So Barclays decided to be unfortunate today and blocked my account. I didn’t even realise until I went grocery shopping and wanted to pay. Thank God for alternative bank accounts!!!

I called the number and was told it will take 7 working days for them to unblock it. The rep couldn’t give a plausible explanation as regards why it happened. He asked me silly questions like did I receive a lump sum recently and I told him I did and I have proof of its legitimacy so kiwani problem yinhuh

Is that a reason for my account to be flaggedhuh

He however, gave me an alternative to go over the counter tomorrow to withdraw my money. God knows I’m withdrawing every penny there. Rubbish bank.

For those coming into the uk newly, I made a mistake that almost cost me a good job I got just few weeks after I got here.
It wasn't really a mistake because I didn't know it was compulsory.

Once you are out of quarantine and your visa says you can work, start processing you NI number. (if it didn't come with your brp card)

I'm on tier 4 dependent visa. The company almost reversed their offer letter when I could not provide my NI. God intervened and I’m starting on Monday.

In the other news, I have naira in exchange for pounds if anyone interested.
Congratulations, glad you didn't miss the opportunity. If you don't mind, share your experience and journey in settling, job etc al for people coming to the UK as a newbie to learn one or two things. And also pictures grin angry, Xmas is starting

Thank you. Yeah I am aware. So the 6months payment is quite funny, my sole Representative visa wasnt helpful because my employers are in Nigeria( they were a-bit uncomfortable with that and also the financial uncertainty, No thanks to covid) . I was given the option to pay 6 months (0ne month with Deposit Scheme, 4months for rent and they will keep two months, whenever i am leaving the two months will be paid back to me). It was a desperate one for me aha with a toddler, i jumped at it and I have a roof over my head. Trust me alot has changed in the rental market especially with Landlords, Kent landlords showed me serious pepper even with my Uncle trying to get the place for us, them no gree at all oo
I just realised moving as a student with family no be beans grin grin. I have been searching for a place for more than 3weeks at Leicester to no avail. Now we are back to offering 6months rent to even be considered at all.

The rental house market is competitive is major cities and a LL or agent would happily pick permanent and paid employment over anything else. Maybe Covid made it worse who knows.

Ontop of the 6months rent, they are still requesting UK homeowner guarantor.

I don't think write up affects application as long as the school is prioritised. Usually the child is considered on catchment area and your personal preferences like religion, private or public, OFSTED rating, location etc

Privates are competitive. If you want to write a well written statement, just go for Private jare .. . You can do it wink
Haha my brother, we never hammer reach that level oo. Lets manage public first.

To sidetrack to another form of investment oo, which is my Child grin grin, Its time to fill in application for reception school for next sept. When filling the local authority application, how important is the write up on why one is choosing the school? It is not a compulsory question so just wondering if this will affect ones application if not well written.

Also, must one write a detailed one for each school (total of 5)? Abeg help a sister oo, all this school processes still confusing.

P.S its feels so surreal I moved here with a 10months and now talking about school application, testimony write up loading wink wink

Catching up on the last few pages has been fun and educating grin grin. Thanks @Aphrodite007 for a good laugh early morning.

Me dey learn from all this investment talks, its just scary of what business owners goes through in Naija.

I grew up watching my mum go through lots of businesses from selling fridge parts, to shoes, owning a restaurant and finally a supermarket.

She barely made any profit and from frequent stealing of staff to restrictions on locations and all. Although location do matters, probably if she did all this hustle in a place like Lagos would have made a difference, but any other location in the SW would end up being the same old story.

P.S: some business owners still dey owe her for shoes she supplied and sold to them for more than 10years now.

No issues whatsoever applying together as the op was asking about applying separately.

BRP permit is the actual visa that will be collected once you arrive UK. If you applying separately, it has been standard practice to use BRP to apply for your dependants. As UKVI has recently updated their guidelines, I've looked and there's really no mention of such. You can have a look as well

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/922968/SW_Dependant_Guidance_09-2020_v1.0.pdf
https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/923750/student-route-casework-guidance.pdf

The closest I could find is the attached (https://www.reading.ac.uk/essentials/International/Visa-and-immigration/Tier-4-dependant-applications)

If you want to apply immediately as you said, you can 'maybe' try the Visa Decision letter. Who knows. You can write a follow up letter with it.
Just to clarify based on personal experience, If applying separately, there are 3 options one can choose from GWF (application reference) Or VAF (located on the visa vignette) or BRP reference number.

you do know they do not have to physically deposit the money there though, its all paper. However the house should know there is a wee fraud going about where an Estaate agent collects deposit from people and go burst!it happened to a mate of mine and up to 30 people were owed!
If the person is struggling to get his money back, take it to RICS/property ombudsman, all property agents handling Clients Money should be on the CMP scheme. Also in such situations run-off cover PII for when a company cease to exist. So such funds can be claimed back. Of course it may take a while.

Unfurnished properties is not for everyone tbh. Personally, I prefer that. I like space and minimalistic décor is everything to me.

When well thought out, you'll never buy wetin you no need.

Bed, mattress, furniture are huge comfort investments that you'll need to find out what best works for you. One man's mattress may be another man's backbreaker.

That said, it's financially tasking depending on your acquired taste. Also, moving houses can be a daunting task having to move all that stuff as well.

But all Malam, to their kettle.
@ bolded, thats very right. Furnished will most likely come with spring mattress, I don't get why UK people like that type and is mostly common. I miss correct Vita and Mouka foam abeg.

That said, for a newbie in the UK, furnished apartment makes settling in easy and moving into a choice of your own apartment later on.

Hahaha it seems people are giving up on deposit easily because of Children, why now. I have always gotten my deposit back. Infact I just assisted my sister in writing to DPS and we WON.

We were willing to part with half of the deposit because of the dampness etc but the agents became greedy and at the point of the claim, they submitted a quote more than the value of the deposit. We just vex and challenged with email evidence of the complaints and all oo and bam we got the money back.

One good thing I learnt from everyone here when I landed was make sure your complaint is formal and documented and that was what helped with the claim.
