Hi guys.
We are trying to create an account with Nmc-uk. However, this is what we got. What's the way forward because we do not qualify for any of these options.

Using the wrong link. Should be ireg.nmc for international nurses. See the link below https://ireg.nmc-uk.org/

Hi @thegurus

I am lost on what to do...

My husband and I have both studied and lived in the UK some years back before moving back to Nigeria 4 years ago before our visa expired. However, we are both coming back to the UK in September for his PhD studies while I come on as a dependent.

I do not know how to say this but I have to. During my stay, i took an unsecured loan and credit card loan from a UK bank and I didn't pay it off before I left the UK and I totally forgot about it while in Nigeria. i recently logged into my UK bank account this week and I saw the deficits. There was no official mail from the bank during the years I was in Nigeria so I wasn't in the know. Although i should have remembered that I didn't complete the payment so it's all my fault.

I tried to access my credit score and as expected, it has been impacted and I observed that the money has been passed off to a collection agency.

I would like to know if

1. I can contact the collection agency and find a way to pay off the deficits or have some kind of a structured repayment plan.

2. As my husband and I are both coming to the UK this September, can this affect us from securing accommodation in the future, especially when they do a credit check on our documents?

I would really appreciate your response and I do hope to be able to clean up this mess I created.

Hmmmn, first of all if your husband has a clean record, then let him be the one to apply for any rental checks and don't try having any joint account that will link link 2 of you and affect his credit rating.

Secondly, I am curious to know how come you did not log in all this while, or able to remember your login details and you just checked when coming to the UK is now back on the table?

Your actions or inaction as it is, is one of the reasons why student are having a difficult time opening accounts, renting, not to talk of having access to such credit facilities and landlords now requesting for 6months rent to protect their interest. Alot of student had relocated back to their home country whilst owing rent just because they believe what's the worst that can happen!

This is one of the reasons why we all as migrants should always try to deal truthfully and with integrity because, I bet if you were not thinking of moving to the UK, you would not be bothered about this mess now.

We all should try to be role models in whatever we do because others coming behind will be judged and profiled based on the actions of our predecessors.

Please ma, I tried to apply for healthcare assistant position through NHS portal and trac but the asked me to put license number, please ma, which license are they referring to.

Thats odd, as HCA doesn't require a special licence as far as I know.

Is this at registration stage or during the application? If its during the application it may not be a compulsory question so see if you are able to progress and submit without it.

Read through the job description or person specification of the role you are applying for and ensure you meet the minimum requirements and also confirm if that advertisement stated Tier 2 applications are welcome

I think parents can make a lot of impacts on how their children are doing at school. If your child is put in an unfavourable stream, put a lot more effort on the child and let the performance of the child do the talking. If your child is not moved to a better stream, then question the school. Use parents evening to ask the right questions in a polite manner. Ask them how the child is performing, if there are any concerns or area for improvements. If they mention any areas, work on the areas and ask for feedback.

Once they see that you are asking the right question, they will think twice before making decisions that affect your child.

Agreed 100%

I agree on parents needing to have a bigger oversight. However what I found whilst teaching was that majority of parents weren't even aware of streaming and how it works especially those who have not been educated in the system. Plus a lot of the time, schools come from the perspective of we're supporting the child achieve X, Y, Z cos he/she needs support here and there.
Add the crazy hectic life here and often, I'd only see parents once a year - at parent teacher meetings which is a very, very short 10 minute snapshot of time.
I did a lot of work with ethnic minority parents in trying to get them to take a greater interest right from the beginning rather than at Year 9 when GCSE subjects are being chosen and locked into place. Majority of schools will steer children towards subjects that the can easily achieve Cs so it doesn't affect the school's stats. So imagine that you've been steered from there from Year 7, it will take a whole heck of a lot (time and money aka tutoring) to then aim to get the child to achieve a B or an A.

Thank you for the explanation, thank God for this forum. So best to know about streaming right from the beginning and ensure ones child is challenged adequately.

Maybe not ‘repeat’ exactly but the ‘mixed class’ is a way of politely saying you need more work before you progress to the next stage. In Nigeria we call it repeating. Here it’s ‘more help’ needed. Either way you spend a full extra year in the mixed class before progressing to the next class your mates went to a year prior.

Wasn't even aware this happen. Is it also true they group kids within the same Year into different categories based on thejr capability and assign different tasks or assignment in accordance to their perceived strength?

This seems like too much work but then they maybe avoiding naija way of assigning first and last position

Sorry.

Just to add to that for Postgraduate student not aware of the full rules. Your dependant would not be able to apply for the post study work visa if they are currently not a dependant on your Tier 4 visa as at the time of application.

Thank you for your answer. I am already studying a degree that would qualify me to work in the Shortage Occupation. In her own case, I just want to know the prospects of her getting hired as an English Teacher here in the UK if she applies for a Skilled Worker Visa. Since you insinuated that it mightn't be difficult for her to secure a job as a teacher in the bolded text above, do you mind telling me how we can go about the process? Or where I can access more information at least? Thanks again.

I know in the past Stenon and others have mentioned it being a competitive area but ti doesn't hurt to try. With her current qualifications and experience she can apply to teach directly at GTCS and if she is approved on the Scotland register pursue job search and applications.

Teaching is also on the shortage occupation, so a good chance. Meanwhile she can pursue PGDE as well for England registration and see how it goes.

Stenon can provide better advise when she is available. And also since you have your own Plans, this will just be a form of Plan B or C for you. Like the elder Lexusgs430 as said below, let her follow the path she wants

Visit nhs website and put in nursing assistant , senior Carer and healthcare assistant roles etc and sign up for daily alerts.

For those that don’t have health background, you can buy social care health package about 20k and update your CV accordingly

Where can I find this social care health package?

http://www.social-care.tv/courses/course-details?utm_source=smartmail&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=18th+May+2021+-+Popular+Course+-+Confidentiality

Choose one that relates to the post you want

Add medication if looking for a senior Carer role

http://www.social-care.tv/courses/course-details/1024

As they might be required to do other e-learning courses when they start work too.

https://www.reed.co.uk/courses/care-certificate

https://www.reed.co.uk/courses/health-social-care

These level 3 QCF/NVQ Health and Social Care can help them advance to senior carer or Team leader positions.

For managerial roles, NVQ courses can increase one's chances. Thats how a care home made an NVQ 2 holder deputy manager. So the NVQ courses are way maker for those who can do it some are equivalent to degree and masters.

I am currently doing the level 5 NVQ Health and Social care as I have seen that that is the way if I want to grow to care home management.

Yes o, level 5/6/7 and not too expensive

They will register her for level 5 NVQ immediately after getting this deputy manager position.

Your bsc is equivalent too to apply for registered manager pin

More than 50% are given conditional offer to register for Level 5 NVQ within a certain period, say 1 year.

Except they have Masters in healthcare management

I think it might be worth that they chose courses that are accredited and regulated for credibility purpose.

Go for the ones that have QCF/NVQ/RQF written beside it.

Most recognised awarding bodies for Regulated Qualifications:
- City and Guilds
- Training Qualification UK
- Focus Awards
- Highfield Qualifications

If the training provider you decide to go with is registered with 1 or 2 of these awarding bodies, it is safe.
https://deals.oplexcareers.com/course/health-and-social-care-advanced-course/

On can do:
- NVQ/QCF Level 5 diploma in Leadership and Management in Health and Social Care
- Move to Level 6 Healthcare/ Health Care/Strategicmanagement (equivalent to BSC)
- Then register with Chartered Management Institute for Level 7 Management course/Management and Consultancy course to become a Chartered Manager/Management Consultant

Care Worker/ Health Care Assistant are usually typically ‘unskilled’ jobs. You can get a Care worker or HCA job (especially with an agency), but it’s basically to keep soul and body together.

Hopefully you already know that the erstwhile Tier-2 visa is now called SWV skilled worker visa. Not sure if HCA qualifies as skilled work.

There is an exception though- for Nigeria-trained Nurses, you could get a Health and Care visa. Some employers employ Nigeria-trained nurses. Put them on HCA salary scale. Pay for them to take the UK nursing qualifications. When they pass, they are upgraded to Nurses pay.

HCA qualifies as a skilled work and currently on the shortage occupation list.

With your skill,I would advise you switch to Civil Engineering Msc as that is broad and on the shortage occupation list last I checked. Teeside is good but I will advise location where there are huge construction works going on. For example the hs2 project, with phase 1 running from London to Birmingham makes those areas hot.

Please Let’s all be guided. Don’t drink and drive in the UK embarassed
I went out last night to London to meet up with old work colleagues and friends at Regents Park. One of my friends who also happens to be an engineer like myself secured a job few months back that pays him over £75k + £15k bonus and a 2021 plate BMW. He was asking me to leave my company and look for more money. I said baba I’m comfortable at my job and I’m trying to stay and I’ve not thought of moving elsewhere yet. After listening to him rant about his recent achievements I almost felt I was doing bad in my career. I was surprised he drove this new car into Central London. Anyways I left regent park at 09:00 pm to catch my train back home. Only for me to wake up this morning with the news that my friend was involved in an accident and his new car has been written off. He was also arrested last night as it appears the accident was very serious. I called his phone this morning m and the a police lady pick up the call and said he will give me a ring later.
My guy needs his driving license for his job, which means he has lost the job. he was driving under the influence of alcohol and weed. He might go to jail depending on police evidence..
The moral of the story remains please avoid the temptation of drinking even if na 1 bottle and driving. Also don’t let no another person achievements make you feel less about yourself….
Let me go and look for my friend

Should we say this is village people at work or just a case of ayò cause am. Hope he didn't harm anyone though.

Good afternoon...just wondering...can one get a care support or clinical care or HCA jobs via NHS from Nigeria. Some of the NHS Hospitals sometimes put there that applications from overseas for a Tier 2 visa are welcomed. But in real sense, will they be willing to grant certificate of sponsorship from Nigeria

HCA and support work is on the shortage occupation skills so anything is possible if you have got the right skills. Learnt from a nursing thread that some have been able to secure HCA jobs from Nigeria via the NHS. However, you may need some online trainings on health related courses to boost your chances.

I am currently trying the same route for someone already in the UK though and will update once successful

The worrying thing with schooling here is the bullying as well. A friend of mine said she used to be called a monkey back for taunts as far back as Year 5.

Like raising a child is not hard enough, na raising one to be resilient and having a tough skin is key, so it doesn't damage their confidence or mental health.

I think it makes them see that life is not a bed of roses and they're extremely privileged

Some don't realize it until those privileges are removed from them

2 like that were in my secondary sch class. One was the son of the apena of Egbaland. He told me he used to go and 'jack' cd players from people's cars with his friends and sell them, fight everytime etc

He spent about 6 years in Nigeria, received some sense and is now doing very well since he returned to the UK

Agreed. It's all due to privileges and not being appreciative enough of the fact that you almost have it all. Some abroad kids also benefit greatly from that 1 gap year they spend travelling to Africa on "self discovery" journey

I would advise you buy the kit for day 2 and day 8 all in one and not split it, you need correct reference number for the locator form. And day 2 test is for green list countries and such references may be different if transiting from country on Amber list.

Abeg oo UK elders and expert, should one report hitting a bollard to insurance or police? I have been reading conflicting resolution or advise online. The bollard wasn't damaged but the car door has a slight dent with split aluminium border strip.

Also, is it advisable one fix it out of pocket/use insurance/ or wait till the end of the PCP contract and see the deduction to be made. Don't want to advise on the wrong choice and cost avoidable expenses

While it's very tempting to book a cheaper test, I strongly recommend that you check out the reviews of the testing clinic you're booking with.

I booked my day 2 and day 8 test (with Concepto Clinic) for about £159 and didn't get the test kit until day 3. After taking the sample, there was no instruction about where to drop the sample and upon dropping the sample, I didn't get the results until much later. When I checked the clinic reviews on TrustPilot, many other people seemed to have similar issues with lots of bad reviews.

That needs to be reported via the government portal, how do you charge £159 for such service. The ones I saw had clear details on delivery(if you order over the weekend or BH it won't be delivered next day) and almost all of them comes with postal envelope and stamp to be dropped in the red priority boxes.

Although I had issues getting through to Dante Labs that I used but tbh the information I needed was provided or existed somewhere online.

But hey, anything to save a few quid especially in this era of 5 covid tests, imagine a family of 6 with kids above 4yrs saving £100 each. Most especially When I know they are sharing this tests sef for free at bus stations grin grin
