Hello Everyone,
I just joined this space a few weeks back. I have some questions and would appreciate peoples suggestions to this.

I am currently a Healthcare support worker under sponsorship. I also acquired a Masters in Management from UK, but this course didn't come with a placement. Now I am seriously worried about being in the healthcare field for a lonnnnggg time. I don't mind sacrificing 5 years to achieve ILR and then look for professional jobs afterwards.

Can anyone suggest Legit certifications I can enrol in to help switch careers to either a Project coordinator or Project Manager. Any career advise that could help me?
PS: I have applied for volunteering roles in administrative sector just to gain experience and add this to my CV, no luck with this.

My longest work experience was in the Administrative field before I got to the UK and dived into Support.

I have thought of doing Nursing after getting ILR because I sometimes find myself enjoying my current job. However, I'm not 100% keen on paying another money for a masters degree when I currently have one I paid hugely for and I haven't used.

I hope volunteering in another field different from my COS is allowed
?

As long as you are not getting paid, it wont affect your COS but I wouldnt do more than 20hrs of volunteeering though.

Regarding career path afterwards, its largely subjective to individual interests, however a career in Nursing in the UK could be quite challenging especially if the ongoing NHS challenges are not addressed effectively.

Personally and due to recent experience, I will recommend Health and Safety courses such as Nebosh and co. There are quite a number of opportunities in that sector if no sponsorship is required.

Thank you to all who responded to my post below.

Please ehn, I have another question.
Now that I have recourse to public funds, does anyone know some that I can get? All my money haff finish. ILR application for a family of 4 finished all my savings.
We currently have pretax household income of 75k (50k + 25k respectively).

What benefits can I claw from the system please?
Man wan maximise everything ‘lost’ in this last 5+ years.

PS: please don’t judge me. I too suffer.

Lol congratulations I know how you feel.

The only one that comes to mind right now if you have childcare cost is Tax free child care and the 15hrs for 2year olds and above

I am not a lawyer, but I would think he did not leave the country to commit a crime.....

He was simply a druggie, not a terrorist ...... I think the British system, prefers taser carrier's, to people that behead, strap vests etc etc ......😀

The law is always an ass ......😂

Exactly at the bolded and this was what the argument on the previous thread was trying to highlight. It seems naturalising here you can still be classed as a second class/tier citizen despite being born here and its a dangerous precedence and also lopsided.

An excerpt from the news stated this

*Under changes brought in after Brexit, an EU national’s deportation, as with that of any other nationality, is deemed “conducive to the public good and in the public interest” if they have received a prison sentence of more than 12 months.*

Double standard if I say and they (HO) will keep trying their luck to target people that fits the bill above regardless of the crime and have parental origin or ties to other nationality.

If I am making millions, singing, sports person etc I am british born and will be proudly claimed but if otherwise chuck them away to the lesser country they have never even been to.

I have been thinking hard since yesterday on how to educate my kids about handling bullies.

My growing fear about this country especially with kids frequent bullying. Recent case in point that makes it feel we are moving years backward is the Tory donor that *feels like

Any particular reason you buying travel insurance for UK though? It is not needed for standard visitor visa.

I believe the OP was not getting one for visa application but for the travel itself.

It is always advised to get Travel insurance in place for travellers most especially those coming from Nigeria. Visitors are not covered after 7days emergency care and if anything happens afterwards the bills quickly ramp up. There are lots of sad stories online and go fund me being set up to cover bills, repatriation cost etc. When the unexpected happens.

Thank you so Much.

I got this. It works like magic

I am grateful

I will also advise reporting it officially by mail to the letting agent to come and investigate. Most wouldn't come and inspect and this will help you get your deposit back incase of any dispute based on moulds.

I once helped a family get their deposit back because the adjudicator stated the agent should have conducted professional checks when it was reported before concluding that it was the tenants lifestyle that caused the house to be super mouldy. The official mails showing this line of communication saved the day.

You pay the IHS afresh but I think the unused IHS from the PSW should be automatically refunded after 6 weeks (most likely not always the case). After which u can notify UKVI to refund you.

Seconded @babajeje. Just apply for refund once a new visa application is successful.

I'm having people reaching out from Aus asking about pay and work conditions in NZ and UK and vice versa. Everyone is moving for greener pastures both perceived and real. We (developing countries) don't have the monopoly of seeking a better life elsewhere. The average Brit, American, Aussie, Kiwi on the street think their life is super hard and will be better in x, y, z country. Till they get there and find they have to seriously water that grass too.

In 2022, more than half of all the teachers (who are mainly from developed countries) at the kids school left NZ permanently. Some to the UK, majority to Canada and a few to Aus. 4 of our very close friends have left - 3 to the US and 1 back to the UK. All British. 2 of them in the medical profession.

Na green grass syndrome dey worry everyone. Plus the British are awesome at whinging. Complaining about how shit the UK is is a national past time. Sotay their nickname here in the antipodes is whinging poms!

Well written and Apt. The British people and media can magnify the problem truly. There is sooooo manu intricacies to purported higher pay that won't be discovered until you get to the other side.

Interestingly, people are getting better pay in some industries in the UK now but the information and percentage sharing is still low.

Good morning people,

Please, between a company car and car allowance, which option is best for someone working in the construction industry as a site manager, not a tradesmen.

Personally, I prefer car allowance because no drama choosing car and flexibility to leave the company without being in a hurry to buy a new car. Also company car will be a taxable benefit with the potential to change your usual taxcode

We tried to fill a sample form with new details and ticked a different option for the declaration part this morning but another page came up that didn't when he filled the form the last time, but when we got to the IHS payment part it still showed total as 0.0 and we were prompted to continue... now we don't even know where the error was made because obviously it's not even the declaration he earlier made that caused it.

I don't know if it's clear enough, just so confused right now.

Thank you

This seems to be the norm with in-country application. They will send an email for IHS top up fund when the application is being evaluated

Please help me understand the bolded. Justwise et al

Scenario below

Assuming you came on Tier 2 Visa and the date on your visa vignette from Nigeria is 1st November 2022 you can apply 28days before 1st November 2027 (which is 5yrs after) I.e 3rd of October 2027.
Use the calculator link below or excel for your deduction to be accurate and in the case of 10 yrs route

https://www.timeanddate.com/date/dateadded.html?d1=13&m1=12&y1=2022&type=sub&ay=&am=&aw=&ad=28&rec=

Hope it's clear and I haven't confused you further grin. You cal also find more information on gov.uk with explanation on date and absences

ILR update

5years don waka, we still dey Carry go oo grin grin....... Time really does fly.
Alhamdulillah for his mercies. Just like yesterday we came and now due and successfully applied for ILR.

Like everyone on the Tier 2/Skilled worker route knows, once you have stayed for 5yrs in the country you are eligible to apply for ILR. The application should be successful, all things being equal.

Another beneficial note some may not know is you are eligible to apply 28days before your first issued visa and any day between that and when you eventually got into the UK is deemed as "absence".

This date is one of the most important criteria for application and other documents required below

A. letter from employer confirming one is still required in that role and the salary is as per home office guidance and requirements
B. Ielts/Naric certificate
C. Life in the UK test (not difficult if you use the previous apps shared)
D. Payslip and bank statements
E. Consent forms for all applicants
F. Utility bills
G. Birth certificate for kids on Tier 2 visa
H. Biometric appointment fees £132 - £250 (this can be avoided with certain tricks shared previously)
I. Application fees - £2404 - £3204 - see screenshot below and start saving ooo.
J. Letter from your employer regarding any absence - main applicant ONLY

Also learnt kids born before you obtain ILR are eligible for citizenship after ILR approval so will be updating about that process later on.

All in all a smooth process, though the money it gulped for a family of 3 no allow us celebrate am well.

Please you all should address me now as fatima ILR oo, shoulder pad is High now grin grin

P.S- declare any speeding point on your licence as this doesn't affect your application as long as it wasn't taken to court.
Avoid any court challenges as this might affect your 5yr eligibility with a 2yr delay

@babajeje the post shows how gentle you are oo. Going to call someone for meals in your own house and after you paid for it, that's you being extra nice and absolutely not necessary.

You have to be very very FIRM and don't let anyone trample on you, your family or rights.
Sit him down and tell him emphatically that he needs to move out in so so time (a month is too much) but since you have been magnanimous enough why not and it will be easier if you don't collect a dime from him so he can move out with his bad behaviours.

Not collecting any money from him would also help you yarb in future and posterity but more importantly eviction if it comes to that level of force.

Don't let this discourage you from helping, but ONLY help people that have been nice to you, sacrificed lots for you in the past or people that ask for it. He would have sorted himself anyways...

Also, don't let anyone make you feel uncomfortable in your own house and infact let madam take over if you want to be the nice one grin

Hello everyone,

I relocated to the UK over a year ago and the travel processes was done by a travel company in Nigeria. We were eligible for IHS refund, so i informed the designated agent assigned to us when we did out travel arrangment in Nigeria to inform her that i will be applying for the refund, she told me to provide proof once i have applied because the Uk gov will only refund the IHS to originating account that IHS is paid from which happens to be from the MD and his wife account. The refund has been approved and credited into their various account since september this year and the company is not having a turn around saying they do not process refund and do not involve themselves with IHS refund. All i want is for my IHS refund to be paid to me by the travel company since it has been credited into their account.

Please i need help or advice to go about getting my IHS refund from this people. The company have decided to stop responding to our emails claiming our file has been closed. I have all the evidence including transaction details.

Thank you for you help.

Call the NHBCSA team and change your recipient account. I know couple of people who used flutterwave and paga and got their funds back even after it was disbursed

Lol yes they do oo, but you have to negotiate it as part of your package. If not it won't be directly offered in some instances (experience with construction). I learnt like after 2yrs with my coy I could have negotiated up to 15% bonus at intake

@yolkman, Birmingham is a good choice to pick in terms of construction jobs. There are lots of activities going on throughout the area and some. With your local experience try Hs2 roles with EKFB, Balfour Beatty and Vinci etc.

You are bound to find something quickly. It also quite accessible to London via trains and kind of average when it comes to living expenses.

Tor I thought so too but what I am seeing on gov.uk is making it difficult to convince her and she is on tier 4 Visa. Also, I know that it is specifically for “disadvantaged” children
.

I think the website is clear, any fund you are submitting NI and documents to obtain is most likely public fund. Pls tell her to steer clear especially on Tier 4. UKVi won't be smiling when it's time for post grad renewal or any other type of visa application for that matter. Some assume if its skilled worker visa, then UKVi won't bother. They don't play with that NRPF

Pick your battles. At 16, he can move out with state help into his own place so that's not far off and you want to avoid him drawing his own battle lines at all costs. Naija style unilateral parenting does not work well here at all.

I would have a discussion with him and
1. Tell him your worries and why they are valid worries - please don't use statements like I'm your parent and know better.
2. Ask him how he will mitigate those worries - agree with him what will work or not work ie he can go 3 days a week (Thu/ Fri/ Sat), establish a curfew, he has to tell you before leaving and give a reasonable time for returning - ie if he says 6pm then he should be home latest 6.15pm or message you that he will be late
3. I'd get him a part time job (at 14 he can work upto 10 hours a week) - that will use up either all his Sat or Sun for one shift.
4. Establish boundaries - healthy ones and not unilateral ones. You want to know his friends, repercussions for breaking trust etc. Establish some hard boundaries - ie a definite no go such as must not sleep outside the house without your full agreement, must not skip school etc
5. Avoid fire and brimstones and threats

Lastly, breathe, you got this!

Good advise and post allround. Thanks for always taking the time out to articulate your points.

@mamatukwas thank you for this thread oo finally caught up on all pages

To everyone for keeping it moving, pls keep sharing tips, questions and challenges for us newbies into this UK journey.
