And thats exactly what i explained. If you have a remote database that has remote access, say online and you want the database to be online then fine. You would still need the driver anyways. However, you have to use derby! Thers no 2 ways, you need an embedded database! Go do some little exercises with derby and then when you are good enough with it, you implement in into your application.

How does your application connect to the database currently? sounds like you already have the driver!

YOu mean what has happened? .lol They have all drop down their ideas and disappeared. Thats what happens on NL. My advice, if you are serious about an opensource project, start one, Make something work and then put in a public repository for contributions
Web MarketRe: Launching Talkem Disscussion Village Square. Proudly 9ja 100% Coded by Fayimora(m): 1:30pm On Aug 31, 2011
HAhha am confused! I thought u are the one in the panel and not dhtml or dualcore!. Why do you want to check their sites out for 'bugs'. Also, if you read what dhtml wrote few posts above, he said he has done no work on those sites. He is busy with his framework, please do correct me if am wrong!

So would advise you to face ur forum/board/village and finish it properly rather than trying to find some bugs for someone! I can stil see a couple of bugs. Also, you still need to do A LOT of work on your design. You can see you have a lot so get to work!

Don't take this the wrong way tho. Just an advise from an invisible friend. .

ProgrammingRe: Java Deployment Help by Fayimora(m): 1:11pm On Aug 31, 2011
YOu probably talking about an embedded database. I think you can find some info in the link above. However, the way it works is,

- you develop your application
- you download and install a database driver, most people use the jdbc
- you use an embedded database(obviously you gotta create it first), most people tend to use derby as an embedded database
- connect to it and use it the way you want to

ax242001:
the best image format for web pages is "gif " format. i notice that jpeg is good but, load for when loading.

Warning :  be careful how you combine and use this image formats!.

Think about it?.
Seriously?
I think the best policy is to use the best format for the job.
Simple!

@OP
You have to use the best format for the job. Lemme just give you some stuffs I know about colors. .

For starters, use gif for animated images. Secondly, since gif has only 255 colors, you shouldn't use them for photos! You tend to loose an enormous amount of the photo's quality! However, a gif image can also be used for an icon of some background image that you want to keep repeating itself over x-pixels

So the question is, what format do you use for photos? Well I think it should be obvious that you use JPG for photos. Cant really say more! Finally, my best is the png. no matter how you compress it, you dont loose quality like you do on jpg(those that use photoshop shud kno what am talking about).

So it all boils down to using the right image for the job. Personally, i kinda like staying away from gifs. . .

I read some article somewhere sometime about images, tryna locate it and when i do i wud give u a link to it.

Life doesn't work like that. You give out a specification/requirement document and get what you want. Don't just take any software from anywhere!

It looks like you are just getting started with the site! Firstly the pictures, you need to use better images. The layout is good enough but you need to work on the design and content.
ProgrammingRe: Google Chairman Eric Schmidt Has Attacked Uk's Education System by Fayimora(m): 9:05pm On Aug 28, 2011
The bad part is that Nigerians don't even know how to protest! Here in the UK, a simple protest solves a lot of problems. Just like omo_to_dun said, the same thing here, they complain that the fees are much, the economy is selfish and bad blah blah blah. I just shut my mouth up and wonder what they would say when they go to Nigeria.

For the 6-7yrs I spent in Nigeria, God knows the only thing that kept me there was the fact that I loved the people and the experience! Very nice and very wicked.lol! serzly, i love Nigerians mehn, simply AWESOME! However, I had to deal with those bloody things called mosquitos, i had to deal with some very ignorant assholes and lots more.

I joined a group of Nigerians last yr and we ended up being banned from the library for 2 weeks, TWICE. hahahha, You know the funniest part of the story, people missed us!

So if Nigerians have all these wonderful mixed qualities, why exactly is that country not going any further? I really dont understand! I mean money aint no problem for that country so what exactly is the problem? Is it just the political aspect?

They really need to stand up and improve, in health and technology specifically!

Without electricity, do you think Studying computer science would be easy? You need ELECTRICITY and AFAIK, when electricity is fixed in that country, a lot would fall into place!

Anyways you should remember that UK is over 200 yrs old, lol and Nigeria is just about 50 ryt?

ProgrammingRe: Who Is The Best Programmer In Nairaland? by Fayimora(m): 4:03pm On Aug 27, 2011
databoy247:
@ mobinga, cool!!

You are my second nominee.

My aim of starting this thread is cos am tired of hearing all u self acclaimed programmers blabbing with  various programming languages. Earn the respect you so deserve by showing us your works. If i see your works, hell, i can confidently recommend you to Mr president. Globally, programmers are well respected.
Lemme guess, you know nothing about programming or you are a n00b. Hmmm am not surprised.

A few questions for you:

--> Your blabbing about making something for the public, do you really think everyone has the time to manage such? I have developed 5 websites now trust me I don't even have the time to manage my own personal site(if u think am jokin check the last time i managed it). I have others things to do! Now how do you want such a person to have time for a public site that you supposedly want to 'enjoy'.

--> This is more of a suggestion. How about you go learn how to develop soft/web and i would see what you can develop in 5yrs! Am not undermining you but you won't understand if you aren't in that place.

--> Do you really think that if a developer doesn't develop something for the public then he ain't good? Not all developers develop for the public at 'random'. From my time on NL I believe most NL programmers develop for themselves. Learning new stufs, developing utilities to help them some way or the other.

On a final note, you said you nominate *dhtml and your reason is because 'He designed something called a framework (i dont know jack about it) and it looks promising from the gists i hear here'! Really? lmaoo please no offence to *dhtml just that your reason is funny!

Wouldn't wanna say who the best programmer on Nl is but i have MY best programmers! I don't pick best programmers because they developed one software or the other!

OK here we go, list is random pls

1 -> omo_to_dun.
2 -> Mobinga
3 -> dell_net
4 -> Beaf
5 -> segsalerty (currently offline on NL, busy with something!)
ProgrammingRe: Plz Help With Using Pseudo Code For This Algorithm by Fayimora(m): 1:51am On Aug 27, 2011
Here is something else:

students = array_to_hold_students
options = array_to_hold_types_of_iceream_available
boolean done = true or false if there is a next question
constant MAX = number_of_times_questions_would_be_asked
questions = array_to_hold_questions,
result = map_to_hold_questions_and_their_answers
Integer counter =0;

chances -> generate random number between 1 and MAX

while counter is not equals to chances
choose question_random_number
select a question at random using the question_random_number

Output: Print out question

generate student_random_number
select a student at random using student_random_number

Input: retrieve answer to question
boolean valid = validate_input(answer)

if valid is_true
save the question and answer into the map
else
Output: error message

goto: 11
counter = counter + 1

end while

Output: result
Output: Bye message
exit program

function boolean validate_input(answer)
for each option
if answer is an option
return true
end for
return false
end validate_input
Ok i think am getting tired of this thing! Anyways you can edit as you like. By now i assume you already get whats happening. Also be careful with the indentation as its matters, a lot.
