Report: Manchester United Lose Edwin Van der Sar For Eight Weeks

According to a report in The Sun, Manchester United have ruled out their starting goalkeeper, Edwin van der Sar, for the next eight weeks with a hand problem.

The veteran Dutchman sustained the injury during the penalty shoot-out defeat to Bayern Munich in the Audi Cup last week, and scans revealed two broken bones in his left paw.

The 38-year-old custodian, whose contract at Old Trafford expires next summer, went under the knife on Tuesday and is expected to sit on the sidelines until the beginning of October.

Thus, Ben Foster - whom many expect to become England's first-choice 'keeper in the not-too-distant future - will have the chance to establish himself as United's No. 1.
