zionx: Well done Mama. Please do you have recipes for toddlers (especially for one that is a picky eater) My dear, these toddlers ehnn...my son is also a picky eater so I'm still experimenting with him. Some meals he takes very well: 1. Spaghetti with minced meat sauce or spaghetti Bolognese ( I try to encourage him to accept veggies so I put at least carrot or green peas) 2. Rice meals - white Rice & stew, sardine jollof rice, rice & beans, coconut rice. He takes it with either beef, chicken, liver, fish 3. Noodles - with always contains veggies with either boiled egg, chicken, fish or liver. Sometimes I cook with ugu 4. Beans and yam ( our latest meal) 5. Swallow - fufu or eba. He loves okro soup 5. Fried plantain and egg For breakfast, 1. Bread and tea - I put the bread inside the tea so it's very soft and he takes it 2. Gerber cereals and cerelac - all these where his old stock 3. Cornflakes / bran flakes - make it very soft with enough milk 4. Coco pops - same way u make your cornflakes 5. Oats Again cos of this picky nature, I ensure I give him one egg a day. I also allow him eat as much chicken as possible cos sometimes. He also drinks very creamy tea every day. He does not like potatoes but it's a gradual process, he will like it soon. Also buy him fancy plate and cup and allow him feed himself most times. I noticed he started putting on weight recently so obviously my trials are working Ok o... epistle over |

Olubankemi, How are you today?
Let's rule out all assumptions, go by One.gai's post. Also, I trust your instinct as the mother of the child.
Don't let her go immediately, hold her down while all investigations are made.
I fervently pray it's not a case of abuse.
May God watch over our children for us |

PresVA: hi mamas, has anyone given her baby soyabeans without peeling?
I mistakenly blended the soyabeans without removing the back.... I fried it then put in the blender to 'de-shell', just few secs, the stuff don blend.. so I couldn't separate the shell.... I go pour the soyabeans away ni? any effect of the shell on baby?
Meanyl, I succeeded in doing pap today with millet, guinea corn and yellow corn. . soaked on Friday, blended and filtered today.. waiting for the water to be gone... I hope my baby takes it
Thanks to Sug..ah and Fedd..y27, your comments on going organic really motivated me... yesterday, my baby had watermelon carrot, apple and banana. . all with milk... today will be avocado, banana and sweet potatoes. With formula of course. .. then we take breastmilk majorly at night. .. and now I have taken a step to make pap Thanks to you two, earlier before now we were having only cereal... your comments gave me the motivation I needed.. no more 'processed food' for my baby by God's grace
ok, make una answer me on my soyabeans issue abeg... We're 7 months + O dear.. this is the kind of feedback I love I don't peel my soybeans o.. I just fry and grind to powder...that skin aids bowel movement so I don't take it out.. Now I'm gingered to share more lovely recipes... Watch this space |

Yesitsme: exactly what I need now as am applying for a new job Don't worry dear. You will be fine hunniesuzie: I need this. I'm resuming on Thursday and I'm having bad separation anxiety already. My mum is staying till he's 3 months after which he'll start crèche My plan is to express so he gets some breastmilk during the day not only formula cos going home during the day is impossible You can express enough breast milk in different bottles so the caregivers don't have a chance of coming in contact with the milk or washing bottles. sugah: Mine is somewhat different but it was the only sane route I could go.
I did my exclusive for 6months but the circumstances for returning to work after my maternity leave ended wasn't favourable for both me and my baby. So I discussed with my HR department and I was informed I could request for a leave of absence (without pay) and I opted for that option.
I took unpaid leave and sorted out all the issues pending -Change of nanny, health issues for me etc and by the time I was ready for work I had started my baby on solids. I am sane , and my baby is healthy. I love that line! That makes all the difference MamaOO and Sugah, thanks for sharing your wonderful experiences. New mamas, take a clue from the stories shared |

Please a help a very sad and worried mom. Thank u O dear, don't worry. She will be fine and still bond closely with you. AlphaHandMaiden: most formular are made with skimmed milk, even baby cereals and food that have milk in it are made with skimmed milk.
What one needs to understand is that these products have been fortified with a whole range of added nutrients, minerals and vitamins that ARE NOT present in normal milk. also full fat cows milk is very high in calcium and this may inhibit the absorption of quite a few minerals and vitamins that they have so carefully formulated. .
Also I suspect it is also because skimmed milk is easier to digest
So it is not an issue if a formulated baby product has skimmed milk. however on its own it is not nutritious enough for babies and children under 3 years old i think.
cc. Fyng..al1 Thanks darling for this explanation! Didn't know how to explain but you did an amazing job here |

Ok mamas, let's have a discussion!!!!
RETURNING TO WORK AFTER MATERNITY LEAVE
It's always a period of mixed feeling returning to work and leaving your lil one under the care of home nannies or crèches.
I would like us to discuss how we managed it, share tips that will be helpful for other mamas here.
So I will go first: For both babies, I resumed when they were 2 months + cos I took my maternity leave earlier to aid my travel plans. I normally leave my babies with a nanny at my gran's house so she supervises them.
Some things I did that helped me:
1. I resume on a Friday ! Yes, so that once the pressure starts coming, next is weekend to cool my head. Also, it helps to reduce separation anxiety
2. I breast feed in the morning before going out, baby takes formula till lunch break when I get back home to feed, she continues with formula till I'm back home by 4. From 4pm till daybreak, we do only breast milk.
3. Have a discussion with your boss to either resume 1hour late or close 1hour early. This will really be helpful. I chose to resume by 8am and close by 4 while my colleague chose to resume at 7am and close by 3pm
4. When you get back home, try spend some time bonding with your baby. Forget plates that have not been washed etc
5. Weekends is for I and the children.. I try to make up for my absence during the week. I take them out or stay all day at home with them
6. Try and take each day as it comes. Don't over stress yourself or feel like a bad mom! NO!!! You are doing a good job
7. I don't take work home for any reason! This is a personal rule I put for myself since I started having babies. Wateva I can't achieve between 8am - 4pm remains till the next day. As I shut down my system, I also shut down my "work mind"
I will add more as I remember.
Other mamas should please share their experiences we can all learn and help others |

Skimmed milk is low fat milk Full cream milk is rich in fats Both are cow's milk Less than 12 months, babies should take infant formula 12 months and above, they can take full cream milk eg miksi, peak, nido etc |

mompurity22: talking about milksi, I see babies that are fed with that milk even below one year looking so healthy and chubby.
BTW, Do you know if it's okay to give a baby skimmed milk? No, skimmed milk is not ok. They need full cream milk Cow milk is also not advisable before 1yr cos their system can't digest it properly |

Akorkor: I quoted this because i want to know how you do it after it is freeze. Do you re-cook it or microwave. Because i learnt microwave food is not good for less than 1 year. I bring it out of the fridge and allow to melt then add it to the already made hot pap. If I need to feed the potato+chicken puree alone, I put water in a pot and put the bowl inside to warm. When I take it out, I add my milk |
