The Powmr beats the Homaya but I understand you're just marketing.

The Powmr MPPT 60 beats the Homaya M1000, I think I made that clear.

I just wanted to make it clear that it is dangerous to attempt to run it at its limit when the manufacturer itself says so.

I also made the point that if running it at 160V PV will kill it, it is unfair that they have not told us the safe maximum PV.

That any potential user needs to have that information before deciding and along the way it breaks

The Powmr is good for someone who is just starting his journey in solar and wants to keep entry costs low while learning the ropes

But my reason for comparing was, how does this compare with what I already have?

Should I take the plunge?

Does the cost benefit ratio make sense?

Finally having benefitted immensely from the wealth of knowledge on this thread, I was obligated to pay it forward

I will do a similar thing between the 1.5KVA Homaya Home that I already have and the new 3 kW/4 kW/6kW Homaya Pro that was introduced sometime in July 2022

I have used the Powmr for a while. But I think the Homaya is better documented and has more features and capabilities.

Based on the specs alone, I think it is a good buy

I bought it on the Schneider store on Konga https:///merchant/205934 on the 8th of February.

I first contacted ccc.nigeria@schneider-electric.com which directed me to solarsupport-emea@schneider-electric.com who directed me to First Options in Port Harcourt.

Someone from First Options came to pick it up, at first they said it's the fan that's the issue and they'd change it, then the next morning called and told me it's the board claiming it's lightening damage which is strange as the ceepro inverter which was swapped out has been there almost 3 years and still works perfectly.

I don't stay where it is so I'm not sure what went wrong.

I believe my main issues are having to start repairing the inverter so soon when the one that was there has never been repaired &having to pay for repairs in less than 2 months

I'd be very glad if you can take it up.

Yesterday the gods put me in a dungeon and I had to reach out to several of their high priests otherwise I would be out of commission till tomorrow.

Thankfully the several high priests I reached out to were able to save me and put me back in service

So I will complete the rest of the review in picture format

I have 2 units of the exact same inverter. I have even used it to pump water though I had to turn off other appliances. Not the best use of the inverter I agree but I have had zero issues in the 2 years that I have run them.

That said do you mind sending it to Abuja so it can diagnosed and possibly repaired here?

When you said you sent them messages? Do you mind sending those messages along with the proof of purchase? Was it via the Schneider website or the reseller you bought from?

Who did you buy from?

My distributor is a big name Schneider shop.

I just put a call to them to find out if they would not mnd taking a look at the unit. They said they do not mind.

Do you have an idea what happened that caused it to go bad?

You said it is still under warranty. Do you have proof of purchase? If yes, I would like to help you take up the matter.

I'd share my experience with the Schneider Homaya soon

Got one in February from their official store.

By March it developed a fault, fan is on non-stop and if utility power comes in, it goes off and doesn't charge batteries.

Contacted their support and they're telling me to pay 45k for a less than 2 month old inverter.

China brands it seems have better support these days

We can't say accessories n logistics is expensive.
But that MCBs ehn, of all the people wey don dey call me that their system get this error and that. I have not seen 1 MCB wey b known name.
1 even use AC MCB for panels, some don't even use MCB n SPD at all. We know aw expensive Schneider is, some1 here mentioned getting 1 for 23k thereabout, can't remember d amount, but Dem dey sell cheap ones for alaba (3-4k) wey dey carry various names, u go see some wey Dem put Schneider ontop sef. The recent system I checked had Schneider DC MCB connect with d panel, MCB got burnt n didn't even flip. Charge controller didn't spoil.
Since list of all items dey, buy better items, not leave everything to installer hand.

Depending on how I disconnect legit devices from extension cords, mine even trips off

Where I stay there has been a noticable reduction in the number of cars on the road as a result of the fuel subsidy policy.

But what concerns this sub-forum is the threat by electricity workers to go on strike, they call it a total strike until the policy is reversed. It is on the front page of this forum.

There is a likelihood that petrol may also be affected if NUPENG joins.

My point?

Be sure that your alternative power system can provide you with the minimum power (lighting and maybe also refridgeration, etc, your mileage may vary) you need to run what matters most to you before this strike happens if it ever happens.

There are 4 parts to the puzzle of your installation.

You have provided one max rated power of your charge controller: 3000 Watts

You have provided the max PV open circuit voltage: 150 Volts

You have not provided the Optimal Operating Voltage/VOC (Vmp) of your panels and you have not indicated if the panels are all the same.

You have not provided the Optimal Operating Current(Imp) of your panels

The guy for whom I provided calculations yesterday provided these details, which I have reposted in brackets (Vmp=32.2, I= 9.31A)

If we do not have these key pieces of information, no one can magically answer your questions

That said best practice dictates that you dedicated a different Charge Controller for each set of panels facing a different direction of the sun, cause if you don't to borrow someone's words:

"it would be like having a hose and somewhere in the middle you squeeze it off or kink it. Water can't flow because of the obstruction and not enough water can get out of the way for more water to follow" or put differently

"If all the panels are connected together, the weakest panel is the one that will govern the amount of power available. It would be like having a hose with a kink in it. Doesn't matter what the capacity capability is of the all the panels if one of them is holding the whole system back.
This is why using 2 strings of panels is better for the different times of day when the sun hits the east most or the west most sides of the roof."


But we wil still need those figures to determine if you are using your charge controller properly or your panels are sub-optimal panels.

I used the calculator attached here.

You could even do 3 in series that is one string made up of 3 panels which would produce 96 Volts and 9.31 Amperes,

then connect the 3 sets of 3 in series in parallel which would produce 96 Volts and 27.93 Amperes which would still be within the limits of tolerance of your charge controller

It maybe possible to add 9 panels and use the same charge controller unless you decide to go full serial i.e., all panels wired in series or each spec wired in series then all wired in parallel

You can exceed the power ratings of Charge controllers, but you won't get more than what the controller is rated for. For instance if you have 10KW panels on a controller rated for 5KW, it won't damage the controller but you won't get more than 5KW output. However, as someone pointed out earlier, what will damage your charge controller is exceeding its rated Voc. That is what you can not exceed.

Thank you I have beenconsidering an upgrade to my PVs that would not break my CC pending a full scale upgrade of PVs, CCs and batteries and I have been debating the need to stay within both limits.

Will concentrate on staying within the rated VOC only.

Let me explain.

According to the poster immediately above, the max rated power of her charge controller is 3000 watts in a 48 volts setup while the max PV open circuit voltage is 150 volts.

Has anyone run their charge controller at the max rated charge power and max PV open circuit voltage?

Is it recommended? or should I allow for some headroom?

If yes by what factor?

This question is deep. Quick confession, the first bulk earnings I made from remote work went back to my family. I was astonished by the windfall and set out to change those things I didn't like. It was by Nov2022 I realised I hadn't saved enough in comparison to my earnings and I began to reason well. Black tax was a problem too. I cut out excessive black tax in Feb 2023.

The plan is to save enough for a long term investment. I am still undecided on which business, but I would most likely go for the one I have passion for - food or interior design and consultation. I have never considered remote work failing. There is always 9-5 for us. We would however struggle to adjust to the daily turnup and poor pay.

Well done for giving back to those who sacrificed for you in the past ( read that to mean parents and maybe siblings)

I have made big sums from remote jobs but as we learnt recently even FAANG jobs are not guaranteed. At some point in time that funding source became unreliable.

I am now more into contracts and even in that field I have seen how change of government/policy/management can affect fortunes for good and for bad.

Someone once said until you have at least 7 alternative income sources to depend on, do not relax.

Not gonna lie, the fact our vehicle insurance issues at the time were handled by the company insurance officer made resolution of any car issue go smoothly. Also my understanding is that it is sometimes better to use insurance for major issues because your premiums can go up every time you have a claim.

You have a point about allowing insurance to handle only major events.

Let us say this is target practice for future such unfortunate events.

Like I never knew that I had to take down the details of the vehicle that gave my new whip chips in the windscreen. Now I do.

I also know that I need to file a police report. I never knew before.
