It is very very very common. I worked in a company where we got discounts on insurance and even then, I know of different colleagues who would not bother. You would always find out when you heard of their accident where the car was totaled. OK sorry about that. Hope insurance came through - at which point you would hear no insurance.

We hear it all the time. Supermarket burnt down. No insurance. Car lot burnt down. No insurance.

And this is not a poor thing. Well a mental poverty thing. Like one of my colleagues who literally did not bother to get wipers for his ride. He was telling me about how he had to use a rag on his windscreen when he got caught in the rain.

Edit - I am assuming by my people you mean igbos. Not gonna lie, the average igbo sees insurance as a complete waste of money that can better be used for business.
I paid for comprehensive insurance for my new car.

I was the victim of a deep scratch not up to 12 inches long.

The number of forms that I have to fill for insurance to process the case. Oh my God!

Well, let me complete the process first.

I might write about how it went.

You're a smart man.
That was very fast thinking. Many that are not savvy with connections wont attempt this out of fear and while the savvy ones may not think to this direction of waking the battery up.
Good thing the battery showed itself while you was still home.

Has the battery misbehaved since after you panelled its life? 😁
The battery had finally become unsafe to use.

If I did not drive in 2 days it would read 12.3V or 12.2V and would be unable to start the car.

If I drove the night before and then attempted to start the next morning, even if it started, you would hear sounds like the battery was on its last day in the process of starting.

But I panelled its life for some 10 minutes to 15 minutes, it would serve me for the whole day.

But the next day it would need to be panelled.

I delayed the purchase of a replacement battery because I wanted a top of the range OEM grade automotive car battery.

I finally got an original Bosch battery after a lot of queries and that is when I retired the battery that came with the car.

I was therefore able to trade the fear of being stranded for the comfort and security of a battery made by a name that can be trusted to deliver now and for the long run.

From everything I have read here especially from Bigb.rovar.

Canadian Panels rock. And may be said to be the better product.

But Jinko panels are no slouch either.

I consistently exceed nameplate values on my Jinko panels.

So buy original Jinko panels or original Canadian panels and you will be good.

You may wish to check view pages back for people's review. Her previous positive review attracted me to her but things has changed probably due to the volume of sales she's handling.

To the best of my knowledge, she doesn't pay much attention to the shipping of cells. She might not even remit the shipping fees you'll pay to the clearing agent and you might end up setling the clearing agent here in Nigeria when your cells finally arrive.

You might also be unlucky to see your cells due to mix up with other unlabeled cells caused by her careless shippers. Those that buy volume of cells at a time from her do not experience this issue.

If you must buy from her, I advise you look for your shipping agent. This will give you rest of mind.
Not holding brief for her. Matter of fact I have not even shipped from her. I have not even shipped from China. I have consistently shipped from the US. If I eventually buy LifePO4 batteries this June, that will be a first for me from China.

That said, from my experience shipping from the US. Most of the time things go well, but a few times, and very rarely things have gone wrong. Like there was a strike by those clearing guys one time, or there was a certain shipment (mine was part of that shipment but not the only thing in the shipment) that was seized by US customs for additional checks because of some suspected criminal package in the shipment.

Shipment that was not criminal was later released for onward movement to Nigeria by US Customs.

Those are the few that readily come to mind. But overall and this is speaking as someone who has shipped for several years, things have gone well.

I think if she has had generally good reviews, one incident should not soil an otherwise stellar record.

Because I had excellent shipping in the past with my shipper, I did not let that incident make me stop doing business with them.

In yet another incident, my package got lost and the shipper ( not the same as the former) had to buy a replacement and ship to me. Took a while, hurt me but eventually I got my package.

So sorry for your experience though.

This is not an attempt to minimize the pain you feel.

I just want to share the other side of the story.

Just wanted to make an additional point that is rarely made in this forum:

There are at least 3 battery technologies commonly used in cars

1. standard wet flooded battery - if you buy a reputable brand like Bosch, it can guarantee you at least 30,000 engine starts

2. enhanced flooded battery - if you buy a reputable brand like Bosch, it can guarantee you at least 85,000 engine starts

3. AGM battery - if you buy a reputable brand like Bosch, it can guarantee you at least 60,000 engine starts

If your car came with 1, you can upgrade to 2 or 3.

If your car came with 2, you can upgrade to 3

If your car came with either 2 or 3, don't even consider downgrading to 1

Even if your car does not have start stop technology, you are better off upgrading to 2 or 3.

More expensive? Yes, but better use of funds and longer intervals between breakdowns due to bad battery

Poster made a wise choice with respect to the battery he purchased

I will defer to GloriousGbola on that.

I am on an unrepentant quest for knowledge. But I am not an electrical electronics engineer.

I realize that there is a place for central stabilizers but I cannot recommend a brand for you at this time.

I have not done the research.

That said, the issue does not seem to be that Prag does not work. The issue seems to be incorrectly reporting voltages.

Depending on your needs, that could be a deal breaker or maybe not.

For my own micro review of Lifepo4 batteries from Selina of Shenzhen Deriy, I have 2 different contrasting experiences.

1. Very good experience:
Last year 2022 April ending I ordered and paid for 16 pieces of EVE LF280K batteries from Shenzhen Deriy. Shenzen Deriy handled the shipping and the batteries were delivered in about 3 months (July 2022), I picked them immediately they arrived, they arrived in excellent condition. I completed the build and installed them, I've been using them since then till now.

2. Terrible experience:
Immediately after receiving my first order, I placed an order for 32 pieces of LF280K in August 2022. Paid for the batteries and shipping with Shenzen Deriy handling the shipping. I did not receive these batteries untill about a week ago April 2023 ( after 8 months). Before i could pick up the batteries I had to pay the shipping company an extra N90,000 even though I've paid Shenzen Deriy full shipping fees.
Till date both Shenzen and the shipping company could not explain the 8months delay, all they say is that there is a problem with the container, at some point both even stopped responding to calls and messages.
I introduced 2 people to Shenzen Deiry, they ordered their cells end of November 2022 and picked up in February 2023 while I was still waiting for my cells. Some other people ordered in January 2023 and picked up their cells before I picked up mine.

I don't know if my second experience is a one-off or happens on the regular but the experience has thought me to handle my own shipping when next I order. I thought I should share so that other can see the 2 ways it can go.
As someone who has zero to no experience shipping from China, thank you for sharing.

Very helpful as I plan a mid-year splurge on improving my alternative power generation capacity

Mini review of Lifepo4 batteries from Selina of Shenzhen Deriy https://deriy.en.alibaba.com/?spm=a2756.trade-list-buyer.0.0.446c76e9yMKAWz&tracelog=from_orderlist_company .

Order Process
The order for 16 x Eve LF280K cells was placed sometimes December 2022, they were shipped out sometimes in January and I got delivery notification in march. I had no issue getting the batteries from the shipper. I ordered extra items like non polarized breakers, extra busbars and nuts, and a battery tester the EBC A40l Smart Battery tester. All items came delivered with the battery.

Physical Condition of the batteries
Battery came in pristine conditions, they looked brand new and no physical damage can be seen. The packages was well done. I settled for the dual terminal batteries, the only issues I had with this was the terminals were wielded in a way that makes it impossible to line the batteries close together in a build without shorting them. This was not a big deal for me though.

Testing
On getting the batteries, I carried out extensive capacity test to ensure they batteries gave the rated labeled capacity. For this I used the EBC A40L smart tester.

I connected the tester to the battery and connected my laptop to the tester, The tester application allows you to set charge and discharge parameter and you can see a graph of the voltage curve of the battery in real time as it charges.

I set the tester to discharge the battery to 2.6v (voltage of a fully discharged lifepo4 cell) and then immediately charge each cell to 3.65v, it would then cut of charging once the charge amps is at 7A. I logged the capacity of the battery once it got to 3.65v (The voltage of a fully charged Lifep04 cell) in all every battery cell was at 280+Ah (some at 284, the least was 282ah) once the voltage reached 3.65v, this means that the battery were the corrected labelled capacity.

Building into a bank
I assembled the batteries into a bank 16S to ad to an existing 16S 280AH Eve battery bank. So so good. Still early days but the cells are doing well. Each bank is attached to its own JK BMS

In all, I am a happy customer, Selina was very helpful especially her employee Colin, both of them speak good english and they were very communicative during the whole process.
Priceless information.

My shopping list got a few new line items.

viodemus:
It looks nice. Something manageable.

Someone pointed out the ventilation aspect, which was my main concern. My other concerns in a building are normally fire hazard potential, plumbing, electrical, roofing, load capacity, and the aesthetics. With floor load capacity, the foundation, and exterior walls, - outside of design and planning, the craftmanship of the job plays a huge role; - the right mixing of cement and block making, the patience involved before adding load on it, the lasting type of screed, and the right technique for a long term water resistant paint.

- these factors matter, if not, within a short time of the life of the building, cracks go begin appear at weird places, the building surrounding go dey hold water puddles, and depending on type of element the building experiences, the issues may become pronounced. Something as simple as a clean roof gutter and drain to about 6 ft away from the house, go help your house in the long run. Not only can you do rain water control, you can also save your house from those green algae that you see around the exterior home. It can cause respiratory illnesses.

Na just say electricity dey hold Nigeria back to ancient times. If not, you for put forced exhaust fan for your kitchen to outside facing up, to about 8feet away from any windows; and also plan for how to drain the condensation. You for also put central a/c system - they are good for reintroducing fresh air to the system to be filtered and conditioned, for interior circulation. The kind of a/c we mostly use in Nigeria na recirculation system - they recirculate and recondition the air in the house, the only source of fresh air dilution are through cracks, windows, and doors. In America and many developed nations, na law say every house must have a minimum of 10 to15% outside air at all times, going into the system for filtration and conditioning. It is not the most efficient system, because that a/c has to condition the new outside air and mix it with the recirculated air to be filtered and conditioned. It is not efficient, but it is very healthy.

In Nigeria, ventilation is overlooked, but in a home, there is a lot of off gassing, like when you clean your stuff with chemicals, or like in a new building where most things are new, the smell of new things like furniture, carpet, and even the paint, takes months to completely off gas. That's when you start feeling sick, having sick building syndrome, etc. With Nigeria, there is a generator aspect too.

Anyways, Nice building, please update us as the building progresses, so that many interested parties can help you stay on guard.

God go continue to bless you, so that when you dey build the next one, you go include a bad ass underground system. If I over sleep and my electronic algorithmic security system detect danger, my whole bed will go down to my ventilated underground system. The whole yard na underground, it can gently swallow four cars, or depending where anybody stand, the ground fit open wide swallow them. I normally just have to watch out for loved ones and my dogs. Talking about dogs, I learn the best way to efficiently use dogs, na to put am inside house - only you might have to wake up in the night to take am outside for toilet break. For me, I get four dogs, two outside, one in the hall way, one in my room except say babe dey then I go put am for hallway. The notification is fast.

@op, my apologies for almost derailing the thread. Good luck.
You did not derail the thread.

You highlighted issues that I have come to notice are wrong with the way houses are built in Nigeria.

You also highlighted the importance of peer review, how is what I am doing locally being done elsewhere and can I copy the good being done over there here in my project?

The other issue that we don't pay much attention here is insulation - to keep the heat out and to keep the cold in or vice versa

I stumbled upon this fan at a friend's house, I liked it and tested it to comfirm the ratings and I went for it.

Rated 220v 50w with Shutter and Grill. (I personally don't think it takes up to that because I measured the Amperage of around 2.5A max while it's operating)

It is controlled by the 15A 220v MOES Smart Temperature and Humidity switch which detects the preset temperature of the room and then starts or stops the fan. This Switch has two outputs which can control 2 fans. So I can choose that one fan kicks on at 35 degrees centigrade and if the temperature increases further to 45 degrees, the second fan should kick on also. Second fan can be set to shut off at 35 degrees and the first fan to shut off at 32 degrees. This is very impressive of the MOES switch. It has inbuilt Wi-Fi also so it's connected to my home network and controlled by the APP.

I also got some really nice models and brands from Amazon USA with more functions like speed control, etc. But those were miraculously overpriced hence my choice for this Alaba market model. Hahahaha.

The shutter opens only when it's operating thereby preventing rodents and Co from getting in. The grill behind the fan prevents stubborn intruders also.

This fan not only extracts the heat from the power room but also the dust..
I am considering adding the second fan soon to complement this one and utilize the full potentials of the Smart switch also.
Thanks for your detailed response.

I thought it was one device. It looks like two devices. The (1) fan and the (2) Smart Temperature and Humidity switch.

Did you get both locally? Or did you get the fan locally but the Switch was imported?

How much did they go for?

I appreciate what you have said about the pricing on Amazon. My research indicates that the more powerful the extractor fan, and the more likely it was built well and that it will last long. Prices around $200 are considered reasonable if you get a powerful one from a renowned brand.

Your information has been very useful.

So if I were to get the setup, I should consider the setup incomplete without 2 fans.
