I think the Naira would continue to be vunerable until we become a PRODUCTIVE country,we import too much,all our needs are basically imported,

we import fuel
we import rice
we import cloths
we import bicycles,cars,books,watches,drinks, the list goes on and on,

The US is the most productive country on earth,yet our leaders claim we copy the US system of government,the US is forever creating new products,innovation is key to their survival.

I guess,my imput is out of frustrations,school fees,tax,bills , seeing your investment crash is not a good sight.My farm needs imported feeds,even the local ones produced here need imported inputs.so we are all affected by the devaluation,I guess the only ones benefiting from this are the leaders who are busy stealing the money.

Hello Guys,
been very busy the past couple of months,yeap,my guy kiwi is right,the economic meltdown has really hit the SAP world.We have actually made alot of people redundant,consultants are currently warming the benches,this is a very bad sign.But one area that we are always struggling with is JAVA.
Ever since SAP decided to 'open-up' that is program in a language other than ABAP we have been having problems,currently the designers of our java engine come out of bulgaria,while most of our support staff come out of india.
As they say 'a word is enough for the wise'.
every sap application is aiming to be internet ready,java compliant,and this means more jobs for guys with hardcore java architectural skills,not just java programming but java tunning, guys who kown about the java grabage collector,who know how to read the thread dumps.
I dont know what's happening to the nigerian market,last year there was hope that it would be the next big thing since south-africa,but recent events have shown otherwise.None of the banks have made ay announcements.Even the preferred partnes like Computer Warehouse have stopped contacting me.This clearly shows that there really isnt much happening in naija at the moment.we know sap implementations cost a lot and run into months,maybe the credit crunch has finaly hit home inspite of monseur solubo's denials.

Anyway best of luck,and I will continue to keep you guys posted, Just been on a project involving CRM/ISA , TUNNING THE JMC

i think you should consider the three courses, adm505,adm506 and adm315.For every large SAP installation there is always a Oracle/performance management team.These guys mainly focus on
tuning the SAP SYSTEM.And the relevant skills are Oracle cache analysis,SAP basis memory management,sql tunning,analyzing wait events, etc.
You are almost there,so rather than do a complete migration to SAP basis,i will suggest you leverage your oracle skills and improve on them.Areas you will need to build on will be sql tuning.As you might already know abap is normally embedded with open sql code.this is then converted to oracle native sql by the database libraries installed on the sap instance.
It is these oracle sql statements that we spend time tunning,it is fun,exciting and it pays well.Am not sure there is any certification available for that,but its not realy needed,experience is what counts.

how are you,so am assuming you are an ORACLE DBA,how far have you gone with oracle,have you done the latest Certification,10g/9i.Have you any plans to reach the Master DBA level.I think there are more job opportunities for jobs in naija as an Oracle DBA than with SAP at the moment.You can always join an SAP ongoing implementation as an Oracle expert.And then cross-train to SAP BASIS.

there seems to be a lull at the moment,the SAP group is a tight one in naija,they keep stuff to themselves.I have not heard of any new projects.But dont forget that there is also support.
so i will advice you to send your CV to any company you know that uses SAP.there used to a group of guys in ikeja who owned a consulting firm called SERVE.This is their website

hey Tousen,
i heard you guys implemented a couple of Oracle RAC systems for some client.Yeah I DID VISIT CWG,and they do have a group of guys managing their SAP practise,they
were offering $500 a day for basis consultants.
These are tough climes,economically their is a downturn.people are losing jobs and companys are downsizing, that means there are alot of people out there with good SAP
skills.I KNOW THIS AS A FACT,

To progress to basis admin from Oracle is always interesting,actually you would probably just have to learn the transactions available to manage the database from a sap perspective.
we have the trial version of netweaver which you can download for free,but it is bundled with Maxdb.

the basis exam itself is tough and am sure you can pass it,

I can see from the posts that you contributed immensely to this discussion,and I am in no way discrediting your input.I really should know the difference between SAP TECHNOLOGIES,and I sure do.
but I dont think it is right to get into that discussion,

Helping our people,sure thats the whole idea of this forum,but the truth has to be laid down as well,for a basis perspective it is extremely important that the guys get OS/DB level skills.
if anybody wants to take the basis exams then I can certainly help, i also used to be ccnp routing and switching and ccp security, got the mcse and solaris exams as well,

APO 3.1,APO 3.5 , EVOLVED TO SCM 4,SCM 4.1 AND NOW SCM 5, For these guys we use LiveCache!!!

I need to correct a couple of misconceptions I have read about here,

Enterprise portal is NOT SAP BASIS, actually we now  call SAP BASIS , SAP NETWEAVER.This is a dual stack system,i.e JAVA AND ABAP.
Enterprise portal is pure Java,managing this software is through our  java tools, or the solution manager diagnostics which has the wiley tool

Oracle and SAP are very much together,most of the implementations of SAP is on Oracle and we at SAP actually have an Oracle competence center,yes,it is true that you can
use SAPDB, WHICH IS NOW CALLED MaxDB,or MSSQL.ORACLE is still the preferred database,

The role of a modern day basis administrator is alot deeper than my friend described.First you need to know Unix and Windows,at least one database management system,Java---at least know how the
garbage collector works,know what a Java instance is made up.Know software logistics,RFCs,ABAP DEBUGGING.And performance tuning.


I also read someone mention APO, this is now called SCM and that comprises of a couple of modules,i.e

Demand planning --this uses infocubes so it's  used with BW/BI
SNP  -supply network planning, planning across a whole network
PP/DS -production planning, planning for each plant
SPP -spare parts planning, this is a new module,
etc

actually one of the best modules to learn is BI/BW,there is always work in this area and i know SHELL in Nigeria uses this
module.

the database used with SCM is called LiveCache this is a variant of MaxDB,and this is owned by SAP AG.

and yes,experience matters,there are just too many transaction codes to remember and I  dont see how any training can teach you abap debugging and performance tunning,these are skills
you learn on the job.as a database administrator you need to know alot about EXPENSIVE SQL statements and how to tune them.

But again,nothing is impossible,

I am an SAP CERTIFIED SCM BASIS CONSULTANT,and SAP CERTIFIED OS/DB MIGRATION CONSULTANT,

currently working as a solution consultant for sap ags,in the US,where i specialize in performance tunning and service delievery

as per training,am not sure india is the best place,yes it is alot cheaper,but the language and quality of the training is questionable,for those guys in naija i will
recommend the sap training center in SA.Abuja also offers some modules.sap is actually trying to work hard in the naija marketplace,UNN has been chosen has a preferred education
partner for naija,so that might be a good place to get your certification.

also sap is also trying to emulate the SA success story in Nigeria as well,so there might be alot more sap jobs in the future.after the oceanic bank,dangote,and a couple of
implementations that occured last year i see the other naija banks seriously considering implementing SAP.The banks in naija know that for them to be considered among the big
boys in the world they need to start using a world class software to manage their business,finacle which dominates the naija marketplace has its days numbered.So to take advantage of the

Guys,just came across this SAP post by accident,for those guys living in naija,CWG is the main SAP partner in Lagos,they have just finished a couple of implementations and I  had the opportunity to
actually visit a couple of them.,They actually recruited their consultants from Zimbabwe.

I have been researching this fish farming business for the past year and eventhough it is lucrative it is also very delicate.
you need to attend a couple of seminars,talk to good consultants, get the right land,decide on the right type of pond.
You also need some case,200k is certainly not enough,but again there is this guy who started in his bedroom.with a lot less
but i guess in those days people were not quite enlightened,you cant just sell fingerlings or juveniles without the potential
customer not wanting to know how your bred them.
