It has become a trend for lovers to check their genotype before signing up for a long journey together. Even though our early fathers didn't and some in this generation are not also checking. The effects are vividly enough to caution all.

The society has made it a norm and science has shown to us the negative effects of failing to check.

Having known your Genotype, AS should not marry AS, in a bid not to suffer the unborn child, due to unforeseen circumstances of the child becoming an SS.

What is Rhesus?

Rhesus is a certain type of protein found on the outside of blood cells.

"Rhesus disease is a condition where antibodies in a pregnant woman's blood destroy her baby's blood cells. It's also known as haemolytic disease of the foetus and newborn (HDFN). Rhesus disease doesn't harm the mother, but it can cause the baby to become anaemic and develop jaundice."

Rhesus also known as Rhesus factor has positive and negative.

In pregnancy,
If the mother is positive, the child is not poised to any threat or damage of the blood cell. If the mother is negative, the mother becomes a threat to a positive baby when her body releases antibodies. The mother will be injected with Rhesus immune globlin to keep the baby safe. But if not well taken care of, the mother may be advised to abort the baby or observe other medical precautions.

A little illustration of Rhesus factor;

Female. Male
Rh+. Rh+. = Good, no threat
Rh+. Rh-. = Good, no threat
Rh-. Rh-. = Good, no threat
Rh-. Rh+. = Not Good, the child will be threaten if the child carries a positive Rhesus.(If the mother's blood mix with the baby's blood, her body will start to make antibodies that can damage the baby's red blood cells. It can cause the baby to develop anemia and other medical problems).

Apart from genotype, both gender should know the compatibility of their Rhesus status before delving deep into love.

Many a times, men who are abreast with this information, take their would-be wives to their personal doctors to check the Genotype and the Rhesus(unknown to the woman that her Rhesus is also checked. Though, it is professionally wrong)

What the man carries may not in actual sense be the problem but what the woman carries. What the woman carries matters.

If she is positive, the best.
If she is positive and the man is negative, it is okay.
If she is negative, the man should also be Negative. But if the man is positive, and the baby becomes positive, the woman is negative, she will be injected to save the baby. If it hasn't gone bad. This sometimes causes miscarriage.

It may not seem bad as Genotype though but the effects are not good if it goes wrong.

I will advice that Genotype and Rhesus be checked before emotions are tied. When the bonding is too strong, it may lead to wrong decision which may affect the unborn child.
