eclectic139: Good All,
Thank you all for the information provided so far.
I have a question related to job application from Naija before arriving Canada.
What phone number do i use on my CV?
I changed the address to the address of where i'll stay in Canada.
I'm worried they may decide not to contact me if they notice the Naija number.
Please any advice on how to deal with this is appreciated.
Thank you. You can use apps, like freetone, to get a Canadian number. |

staronthemoon: Vancouver is expensive. The average rent for a one-bedroom apartmet is $2000. The average rent in cities outside of Vancouver in the lower mainland are more affordable but they are typically higher than what can be found in towns/cities in the praries (Alberta, Saskatchewan & Manitoba) and Atlantic provinces (Nee Brunswick, PEI & Nova Scotia). Many people commute from the surrounding areas to Vancouver for work. There are job opportunities in BC but not as much as Ontario(specifically Toronto & Ottawa) and Alberta for English speakers. Additionally salaries tend to be a little lower in BC than other provinces.
The weather in BC is not as extreme. The coldest it ever got when I was living in South Western BC was -10°C. It hardly ever snows either. There aren't as many black people per capita in BC compared to the prairies, Ontario and Quebec so it is easier to feel homesick. Hello Staronthemoon. Welcome here. Please can you share on living in Ottawa especially with regards to the bolded. |

maziude: Good morning. Thanks to @Maternal suggestion (to check Gatineau for housing), my friends and I found a fully furnished 3 BR House with basement at Gatineau for CAD1599/month (15 mins to Ottawa by bus). But it all depends on how far you willing to compromise(i.e distance to price).
I hope this is helpful. Hello Maziude, I sent you a PM. Pls kindly reply. Thank you |

Good morning NL family. Please my Ottawa and Gatineau, what implication can living in Gatineau and working in Ottawa have on future Citizenship application, traffic, taxes? Is it advisable for new immigrants? Please any info will be appreciated. Rent is really cheap in Gatineau, though all adverts are in french. |

I sent mine since last month, it's over 20 working days and my profile still says 'awaiting documents' but I only paid 450naira so I can't really complain. Why not fax it to them free? dfanz: My work experience has been in financial services but I plan on changing careers kinda like go with the flow of things. My immediate goal is to get a job to support myself (without bias to my previous experience) while I work on additional qualifications. My main considerations are cost of living and ease of settlement. From my research it appears GTA has more immigrant serving organizations and job opportunities than Calgary but somehow Calgary just keeps calling my name. I'm so undecided. I plan to land in January. So many cities are calling my name too It is truly a dilemma. |

Guitarlife: Hello people the journey has started thanks to everyone that has encouraged me.
I spent a good number of hours sorting thru NOCs and I finally found one that fits my job description of 4 years but the job title is totally different.
I am nominating 2241 Electrical Electronic technologist while my present job title is about managing Automated Teller Machines.
My plan is to state my job role on my company reference letter to indicate I design, operate, support bla bla bla ATMachine emphasis on ATM hard ware and electronic banking systems support and repair. There is a format for this letter on CIC website. Give that to whomever is writing the letter in your company, then use the job responsibilities indicated on the letter to pick a NOC code. There must be at least 70% match to the code you pick. |

I have Toronto as the city I'd be landing in my COPR but plans have changed and I'd now be landing in Calgary via Manitoba.
Please I need to know if I'm good and wont have any issues when I land There is no issue Wura27. You can land anywhere apart from Quebec (as landing formalities can't be completed there). |

Nazor83: Please what are the disadvantages of using standard mail apart from the inability to track the parcel? The mail getting lost in transit on its way to Nigeria. Or being delayed. But many others had theirs arrive in 2-4 weeks. However, people have successfully used only the soft copy without any issues. |
