President Robert Mugabe is no stranger to homophobia. Or racism. Or genocide. He once referred to himself as "Hitler-tenfold", albeit as a somewhat ironic response to accusations from the western press. He likes a laugh too, he's quite fun for a despot. He's like a playful mega Hitler. Last Friday, kicking off his election campaign with the launch of the Zanu-PF manifesto, and in front of a crowd of thousands of supporters in the township of Harare Highfield, Mugabe launched into a tirade against homosexuality which was both nuanced and hilarious. Chuckling throughout, he threatened to jail gay and lesbian couples who fail to conceive any offspring. "I should like to shut them up in some room and see if they get pregnant," he said, "if they don't then its jail because they have claimed they can have children. So, to that kind of rot, we say no, no, no, no!" It's unclear exactly what he was laughing at. Say what you will about him, Mugabe is a man who usually follows through on his threats. So, either he's consciously slipped into self-parody, or he's laughing because he's actually going to do it and the thought of it tickles him. Given the ridiculousness of some of his previous homophobic statements, gay men "behave worse than dogs and pigs" and the "gay world goes against nature" for example, it would be easy to assume it's the former. Although, given his proclivity for killing en masse and imprisoning homosexuals, it's probably safer to assume something nearer the latter. Apparently using himself as his own warm-up act, Mugabe went on to attack gay marriage and attempts by the West to make them lighten up a bit about it. He dared lesbians who assume the role of the husband in their relationships to prove that they were indeed 'men': "Women are also engaged in this vile activity. We have some claiming to be men but what is it that makes you a man? Show us your manhood; you want to make other women your wives and you the husband? Well, that is madness, we refuse to accept that." Madness would be right. But maybe we should give President Mugabe the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he's just demonstrating an awe-inspiring commitment to self parody, a long-term project which has resulted in "desperate hyperinflation, a drop in male life expectancy from 62 in 1990 to 44 today, widespread cholera, and desperate malnutrition," all leading up to this moment when he's going to confess it was all a big joke. Maybe we should just sit tight and wait for the punchline. After all, after all the good he's done for Zimbabwe, he probably deserves it. Source: http://m.naij.com/news/39632.html |
FC Bayern München's Thomas Müller, Franck Ribéry, Arjen Robben and Bastian Schweinsteiger are on the ten-man shortlist for the 2012/13 UEFA Best Player in Europe Award. Four players from FC Bayern München are on the ten- man shortlist for the 2012/13 UEFA Best Player in Europe Award. Born out of an initiative of UEFA President Michel Platini, and intended to revive the spirit of the old European Footballer of the Year honour and run in partnership with the European Sports Media (ESM) group, the award will be handed out for the third time in Monaco on Thursday 29 August during the UEFA Champions League group stage draw. As in previous years, the accolade is voted for by a jury composed of journalists from each of UEFA's member associations. Each journalist has provided a list of their five best-ranked players – the players are ordered from one to five, with the first receiving five points, the second four points and so on. The long list of 26 players can be found here. The top ten players overall advance to a second vote by the jury to determine the three ultimate award contenders – to be revealed on UEFA.com on Tuesday 6 August. This trio then proceed to the live vote in Monaco at the end of August, when the same journalists will use an electronic system to determine the winner from the three anointed candidates. Lionel Messi (2011) and his FC Barcelona team-mate Andrés Iniesta (2012) claimed the first two awards although only the Argentinian is in the running this time. Messi is up against the Bayern quartet of Thomas Müller, Franck Ribéry, Arjen Robben and Bastian Schweinsteiger, all recognised for helping the Bavarian club win the UEFA Champions League final against a Borussia Dortmund side represented by striker Robert Lewandowski. Four more attacking players – Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimović and Robin van Persie – complete the shortlist, which can be seen in alphabetical order below: Gareth Bale (WAL) – Tottenham Hotspur FC Cristiano Ronaldo (POR) – Real Madrid CF Zlatan Ibrahimović (SWE) – Paris Saint-Germain FC Robert Lewandowski (POL) – Borussia Dortmund Lionel Messi (ARG) – FC Barcelona Thomas Müller (GER) – FC Bayern München Franck Ribéry (FRA) – FC Bayern München Arjen Robben (NED) – FC Bayern München Bastian Schweinsteiger (GER) – FC Bayern München Robin van Persie (NED) – Manchester United FC source: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=516083835126840&id=140093616059199&refid=8&_ft_=qid.5898593500021542342%3Amf_story_key.-4083150184205951043 |

"The absence of big boys caused defeat in the games against Uruguay and Spain "-these are words of NFF executive Mike Umeh..... While Taiwo Ogunjobi former Nff chieftain was more direct he has called for the return of Osaze and Martins to the #supereagles fold citing the poor attackline in the confederations cup ..Nigerians once hailed the dropping of the big boys by Keshi as bold and progressive but, with the recent display in Brazil there is a call for a turnaround of a once celebrated decision .... . Early this morning, Arsene Wenger was reportedly spotted in Tahiti, rumor has it that he was scouting for players himself in Tahiti. When asked by CNN sports journalist (Rachel Nichols) what he was doing in Tahiti, he said he was just spending part of his holiday there. But luckily for us at Fake9janews, our undercover agent (Mr. Remember he’s undercover, name must not be mentioned) leaked out the secret saying that Arsene Wenger was in Tahiti not to spend part of his holiday there, but for ‘Business and Footballing Reasons’, he continued, saying, in the heat of the confeds cup and the opening of the transfer window, Wenger had come to preliminary terms and agreement with the Fédération Tahitienne de Football (Tahiti Football Federation) to recruit 11 (eleven) of their players into the Arsenal Football Club for $500 each. It was reportedly mentioned that the Tahitians are giving a discount of 1 player for every 4 players bought by any European club. From the Tahiti point of view, this is a once-in-a-life-time opportunity for their players to play among the best teams in Europe to improve their psycho motive skills after the crushing by the Nigerian and Spanish national teams. From Wenger’s point of view, this is what we call ‘bizinessi’, ‘I will just pick those eleven players like ‘bend dan select’ and put the rest of the £70million transfer spree Arsenal gave me in my back pockate’. The intonation behind the statement also revealed that Arsene ‘ Baba Elediye’ Wenger had prior Igbo backgrounds…. More on this as the story unfolds |
BY @SIRFIZZ Sad news coming from ideye’s home town revealed that angry local Nigerian supporters took their anger on the super eagles strikers mansion. The fans were said to have all left a popular viewing center after the second goal was scored with nothing on their mind but payback for all the chances the player missed. We were able to question a village member who said “u na no see as dat boy with fowl head just dey miss chances …even torres no dey miss like that…he must pay for causing heart aches this nite…we are contacting our other members to take down Musa’s house too… so they know we don’t like rubbish football” source:http://fake9janews.com/breaking-ideyes-mansion-in-his-home-town-set-on-fire/ |

Former South African President Nelson Mandela in critical condition Nelson Mandela, who is still in hospital, has taken a turn for the worse and is now in critical condition, South African President Jacob Zuma said Sunday. A statement posted on the presidential website Sunday said Zuma and Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa visited Mandela Sunday evening in hospital. They were briefed by the medical team who informed them that Mandela’s condition had become critical over the past 24 hours. “The doctors are doing everything possible to get his condition to improve,” said Zuma, adding that Mandela is being well-cared for and is comfortable. They also met with Mandela’s wife Graca Machel in hospital. Zuma has appealed to the nation and the world to pray for Mandela, his family and the medical team that is attending to him. Mandela was taken to a hospital in Pretoria on June 8 to be treated for a recurring lung infection. http://www.ctvnews.ca/world/former-south-african-president-nelson-mandela-in-critical-condition-1.1338355 |
