It's easy to quote some verses of the Quran to support your view, but I tell you, Islam and the Quran has as it's Central theme; violence against those who do not believe in your religion a.k.a. infidels.

In reality, Islam's mainframe is built and sustained on violence. Take a look at countries where Islam holds sway, honor killings, killing of infidels, and killings linked generally to religion is rife.

Do you remember the Danish cartoon? Can you recall Charlie Hebdo? The cases are endless. Any religion, idea or doctrine that is shy of criticism cannot be progressive. When the rest of the world prides itself in change and evolution, Islam prides itself in the fact that the religion has remained the same as it was since 1400 years ago. Christianity used to be worse than Islam but they opened up to criticism and change and here we are, even though there's still a lot that needs to be changed about christianity. Mind you, I'm not a christian anymore even though I may pass as a cultural christian.

There's no way you can successfully separate Islam from violence. Islam is only peaceful in countries where they're a minority, and they still cause a lot of trouble as a minority.
