I think it all depends on what OP wants. I don't know so much about the career pathways of doctors in the military; but from general knowledge, I hear they start from a fairly high range (? Lieutenant) and progress well.

I think he should do proper research, speak with colleagues on the path and get good counsel before going in.

Unless you are pretending not to be in the know, even my friends that are in the medical field, either as a nurse or a doctor... Even, as a matter of fact, male doctors/nurses avoid marrying their female counterparts.
