The Nigeria Police Force on Wednesday arraigned in court a former Army officer that reportedly killed a motorcyclist in Obingwa, Abia State.

The now dismissed former Corporal Johnson Ajayi is being arraigned for murder.

Ajayi had, on August 7, shot and killed one Chimaobi Nwaorgu, an Okada rider in Umuokereke Ngwa in Obingwa local government area over N100 bribe.

He was later dismissed by the Army after an orderly room trial and was subsequently handed over to the Police in Abia for prosecution.

During the arraignment, the Police prosecutor, Adeyemi Olukoya, said the soldier was charged for a sole offence of murder.

The Charge Sheet Number U/587c, Commissioner of Police Vs Ajayi Johnson (29 years) reads: “That you, Johnson Ajayi, ‘M’ on the 7th day of August, 2019 at Umuokereke Ngwa village Obingwa in the Obingwa Magisterial District, unlawfully killed one Chimaobi Jeremiah Nwaorgu ‘m’ by shooting him with AK47 Rifle/Firearm and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 319(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 80, Vol. 3, Laws of Abia State of Nigeria 2005.

Asked for his defence counsel, the suspect, who is from Kogi State, said he was not allowed access to a defence counsel.

In his ruling, the Presiding Magistrate, Linda Ugboaja, refereed the case to the office of the state Director of Public Prosecution for onward transmission to the High Court and remanded the accused in the state prison, while adjourning the matter to the 16th of September, 2019.

Addressing the Press after the adjournment, wife of the victim, Chiamaka Chimaobi, cried out that that since then, life has not been easy for her and her two children.

Chiamaka, who is unemployed, pleaded with government at all levels to come to her assistance by giving her a job.

She also appealed to the government to ensure that she gets justice in the case.

Chiamaka’s Counsel, Adiele Chibuzor, leading Bar. Ugo Amaraizu, said the adjournment was to enable the Ministry of Justice do the necessary things.

Also speaking, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Geoffrey Ogbonna, noted that the adjournment was necessary to enable the transfer of the case to the high court.

Ajayi Samuel aka Preacher, a final year Accounting student of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, Lagos, an affiliate of University of Benin, has been shot dead by suspected rival cultists.

Some cultists had stormed the school during the final students signing out yesterday and shot sporadically in the air before leaving.

However, today, they returned and trailed Samuel – said to be an only child – to a canteen where he had gone to eat. While stepping out of the canteen, they shot him in the neck, killing him instantly.

Immediately the news of his death got home, his dad and mom rushed to the scene crying. His body has since been evacuated by the police.

The Ondo State Police Command, on Wednesday, said that it had arrested one Mrs. Babalola, for her alleged involvement in the death of her daughter, Testimony, in Akure.

Testimony was allegedly beaten to death by her parents last week Wednesday for allegedly possessing evil spirits .

Babalola allegedly rushed the daughter, who was unconscious as a result of severe beating, to the Ondo State University Teaching Hospital, Akure, where it was confirmed by a doctor that the four-year-old girl had died before reaching the hospital.

After the girl had been confirmed dead by the doctor, it was gathered that Babalola fled the hospital with the lifeless body to an unknown destination.

Since then, the police command had begun a search for the parents of the deceased.

A source confirmed that the little girl used to be tortured by her father, Mr. Felix Babalola, after he was told that she was possessed by evil spirits by a church.

Since the incident happened, the police had been making unsuccessful efforts to arrest the couple.

On Saturday last week, it was learnt that the residents of Ikare Akoko Community allegedly prevented the men of the command from arresting the couple.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Femi Joseph confirmed the arrest of Mrs. Babalola. He noted that the father of the deceased was still evading arrest.

He said, “We have arrested the wife on Monday, but we are yet to arrest the father but I can assure you that he would soon be arrested while our investigation was still ongoing on the matter. “

Nigerian woman in the United Kingdom, Gloria Makanjuola, who committed a series of robberies and theft on buses in Hackney, even targeting an 87-year-old woman, has been jailed.

Makanjuola, 28, of no fixed address, was sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court to two years and eight months' imprisonment after pleading guilty to eight counts of robbery, four counts of theft and four counts of fraud at an earlier hearing at Thames Magistrates’ Court.

Makanjuola committed the offences between September 2018 and October 2018 across Hackney. Her victims were aged between 18 and 87 years and all the offences occurred on buses in Hackney. One victim, an 87-year-old man, was targeted by Makanjuola as he travelled on a route around Wick Road.

She sat next to the victim and tried to put her hands in his pocket, he told her to stop but she managed to grab around £80 in cash. On another occasion, an 18-year-old woman was on board a route 277 bus in the area of Mare Street, E5 when Makanjuola started talking to her. During the conversation, she kept touching the victim and was crying.

The victim told her to leave her alone, Makanjuola then left the bus by pressing the emergency exit button. When the victim got up to leave the bus, she noticed that her purse and oyster card had been stolen. Detective Sergeant Coleman, the senior investigating officer from the Roads and Transport Policing Command, said;

“Gloria Makanjuola was a prolific offender in the Hackney area. She targeted vulnerable passengers using the bus network system, committing robbery or theft offences. If bank cards were stolen, she used the opportunity to use the cards to make contactless payments at local stores.

“Working in partnership with the Safer Transport Teams and Transport for London, Makanjuola was identified and arrested for various robbery and theft related offences. I would like to thank the victims in this investigation who had the courage to report these matters and assist in the police investigation. Without their support, this outcome would not have been possible.”

CCTV footage was obtained from the buses and Makanjuola was identified by the investigation team and Safer Transport Team officers A number of the victims were able to recognise Makanjuola during the course of formal identification parades. Detective Superintendent Andy Cox, the lead investigator for transport network crime across London, said;

“We are focused on targeting prolific criminals like Makanjuola who target and prey on the most vulnerable commuters. Through extensive CCTV coverage across the transport network, we are able to identify and bring offenders to justice.”

The court also heard that Makanjuola is currently serving a sentence for similar offences which she committed last year in the Hackney area. She was imprisoned for two years.

The RRS is the Lagos Security arm which comprises of men of the Nigerian Police and is headed by DCP Tunji Disu.

Men of the Ogun State Police Command Thursday arrested two brothers, Sunday Durosinmi Onikoyi, 29, and Felix Durosinmi Onikoyi, 20, for allegedly defrauding unsuspecting members of the public with fake currency.

Source reports that the two brothers were residents of 30, Akala Street, Idi-Oro Mushin, Lagos State.

Their arrest, according to the command, followed a distress call by one Mr Moses Nwese of Gas-line area of Ijoko Ota, that the two men came to his shop to buy two bags of rice; giving him the sum of N29,000 in one-thousand-naira denomination.

Nwese stated further that the two brothers left his shop hurriedly and while counting the money, he discovered that all the money notes were fake.

A statement signed by the spokesman of the Ogun Police Command said, “upon the information, the DPO Sango Ota Division, CSP Godwin Idehai, who was on routine patrol of the area with his men hotly chased the suspects and got them arrested in an Honda Odyssey car with registration number LSR 504 AZ.

“On searching them, N78,000 fake one thousand naira notes were recovered from them. Also recovered from them are; One unregistered Bajaj motorcycle and 10 bags of rice.”

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bashir Makama has ordered a full-scale investigation into the activities of the two suspects; adding that they should be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction as soon as investigation is concluded.

It was end of the road for 10 suspected internet fraudsters on Wednesday August 21, 2019, as they were arrested at thier hideout in an early morning operation by Operatives of the Benin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in Sapele, Delta State.

The arrest was triggered by intelligence received by the Commission. The suspects are Abuwa Marvis, Ikpasa Efe, Abraham Idede, Maye Edefeose, Ovie Akpojevuehe and Akpotor Okeoghene. Others are Abuwa Jeffery, Ehirouture Precious, Best Lucky and Lucky Desmond.

Items recovered from them include lap top computers, mobile phones, flash drives, internet modems and charms (voodoo). The Commission also recovered a Toyota Venza from one of the suspect.

The suspects have made useful statements and will be charged to court as soon as investigation is completed.

The 82 Division of the Nigerian Army has handed over Lance Cpl. Ajayi Johnson, the soldier who killed a commercial cyclist at Umuokereke Ngwa in Abia State, Igbere TV reports.

On August 7, Johnson reportedly shot commercial motorcyclist Chimaobi Nwaogu at point-blank range, killing him on the spot.

In a statement on August 10, the Deputy Director of Army Public Relations in the division, Col. Aliyu Yusuf, said the army had commenced investigations on the killing.

The killer soldier was Court marshaled, found guilty and subsequently dismissed from the Nigerian Army, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV gathers that a few minutes after 2pm on Wednesday, August 21, the Brigade Commander, General Kumapayi in company of other top military men, handed over the murderer, Ajayi Johnson to the Abia State Police Command for prosecution in accordance to the law.

A shop owner was nearly beaten to death over money by her husband, today, at the Utako market, Abuja.

It was gathered that the man constantly collects money from his wife, however, today he met a resistance and it led to a heated argument.

The matter later degenerated forward with the man punching her till she passed out. But for the intervention of passersby, he would have killed her. He was later made to rush her to the hospital.

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has banned President Muhammadu Buhari from travelling outside the country, Igbere TV reports.

The group also placed a similar ban on Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, Nigeria’s Chief of Army staff, from any foreign trip.

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the IPOB, announced the ban during a live broadcast on Radio Biafra monitored by Igbere TV, on Sunday.

He lampooned the two leaders for launching ‘Operation Python Dance’ against “armless” Biafran agitators in the South East, during which many IPOB members were reportedly killed.

“Any day you see Jubril aka Buhari or Buratai anywhere outside Nigeria, they will understand the meaning of anger”, Kanu stated.

The ‘Operation Python Dance’ was launched by the army in the South East in 2016 in the wake of protests by IPOB members who were demanding secession from Nigeria.

During the ‘Operation Python Dance’, the Nigerian army raided Umuahia, Abia State, the home town of the leader of the IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, reports Igbere TV.

Meanwhile, Igbere TV had earlier reported that the IPOB has placed a N1 million bounty on four governors in the South East region.

The affected governors include Dave Umahi (Ebonyi), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and Willie Obiano (Anambra).

The announcement comes barely 24 hours after Senator Ike Ekweremadu, immediate past Deputy Senate President, was attacked by members of IPOB in Germany, on Saturday.

Kanu had earlier praised the act of his members, while sending a strong note of warning to the governors and Chief Nnia Nwodo, President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

Alausa is a principal district in Ikeja, the capital of Lagos State.

Alausa also has a vibrant and growing Central Business District with the presence of several multinational business concerns.

It also has many low-density residential estates like the Cornerstone Estate, MKO Abiola Gardens, etc.

Alausa boasts of excellent roads. All the roads there are well designated. They all feature road markings, functional street lights, and traffic lights,  CCTV cameras, very visible road signs, water hydrants, pavements, etc. And most importantly, potholes are scarce on roads there.

Indeed, roads in Alausa, Ikeja, is a good example of how roads in a cosmopolitan city like Lagos should look like.

Lagos State is the fifth largest economy in Africa.  The government generates N34 billion monthly from revenues generated internally (N408 billion, annually). This is far more than what many African countries generate.

With this huge resources at the state's disposal, why can’t the entire roads in Lagos be like how it is in Alausa, Ikeja?
