django1: Dude, you are talking about trading, its not the same thing as the economy of the city/state. What about the service sector or the agricultural sector? Dey dere dey jones.
Do you have any idea of the amount of money made from agro-processing and the agro-allied companies and farms to be found in Ibadan?
Do you think its for no reason farm goods are cheaper in Ibadan than anywhere else in the southern region?
Besides, Ibadan has very large markets too. |

FKO81: I like to be challenged, I don't mind let open thread and face it out with pictures in all ramification. Although it will be an insult to Anambrians, pictures cure ignorance very fast It's not about states being economically viable but it's about cities being economical viable. i.e Ibadan vs Nnewi or Nnewi vs Onitsha. So, if we go by cities, forget it, Ibadan surpass Aba, Nnewi and Onitsha when it comes to a city been economically viable. Is it in terms of Medical tourism, Infractuctures and quality Education, Hospitality, Service economic, Agriculture, Manufacturing, Real Estate business, e.t.c Ibadan surpase those cities. |

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has rated the economy of Anambra as among the strongest in the country.
The Branch Manager of the bank in Awka, Mr Okoro Azubuike, announced the rating in Awka on Thursday when he received the Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku, who was on good governance tour of the state.
Azubuike said the deposit mobilisation on the state was third in the country behind Lagos and Kano, while it ranked fourth in terms of the presence of commercial and micro-finance banks.
He said the commercial cities of Onitsha and Nnewi were large and had made the state the commercial base of the South-east region.
In his remarks, Governor Peter Obi said the bank was crucial to the commercial activities of the state, adding that the government had resolved to fast track the construction of its permanent
Where did he compare cities?
He was only comparing states. I.e Oyo State and Anambra State and not Ibadan Vs Onitsha.
When it comes to state, it`s a different ball game entirely.

What makes America ecomony big is simply because they are a producing nation and not importing nation? The question should have been, what are the things produced in Ibadan? What makes Ibadan economic viable than Onisha? |

wiseoneking: ibadan is not actually a ECONOMIC VIABLE CITY but civil servants oriented like Enugu coal. That it is large does not make it a viable one. The first 4 cities that sanusi of cbn started the cashless policy are the first tier viable city. They are Lagos, Abuja, Onitsha and Portharcourt. Others are Aba kano kaduna and ibadan. But the first 4 are the most viable economical. Nnewi is invariably included. What makes you think Ibadan is a civil servant oriented city like Enugu? |
