Shma: so you removed Accra on the list,? Anyway, we can't discuss all those, we were to discuss only Lagos, Accra and Nairobis, and since Accra is nowhere to be seen we can go with Lagos and Nairobi. No, Lagos is not planned bro, let's try Abuja and Nairobi.
Shma: I agree, and neither of the two were planned going by this logic.
We only have few planned city in Africa, I will agree that eko is one of them, konza city in kenya is another one, and partly Abuja in this context. But when we go to urban planning, you'll realize it has more to qualify a city as planned, and by that many indices will place Lagos behind Nairobi, Abuja is planned, that is for sure but Lagos at some level no.
There is difference between Lagos state and Lagos city. Lagos state comprises of cities and towns within Lagos state while, Lagos city, Ikeja, Lekki, Eko Atlantic, Ojo, Ikorodu, Epe, Badagry etc are cities and towns within Lagos state.
Now, Lagos city was initially made up of Lagos Island, Ikoyi and Victoria Island before mainland (Yaba) was added, these areas were planned. This is what I mean by Lagos was planned.
Apart from Lagos city, Ikeja, Lekki and Eko Atlantic are also planned.
Lagos was an orderly urban environment 70 years ago. This was the case from the 1950s, when the city was a federal territory through to the 1960s when it became federal capital – a status it held until 1991.
The foundations of orderliness for any city are planning and management. Lagos had this in place in the early days. The city was governed by an elected Lagos City Council, Nigeria’s oldest, established in 1900. It was governed according to colonial legislation, particularly the 1948 Building Line regulations and the 1957 Public Health Law.
The city was much smaller and was made up of Lagos Island (Eko) which included Ikoyi and Obalende neighborhoods. It was a beautiful environment that featured Portuguese, Brazilian, and British Victorian architecture. Its streets were clean and tree-lined. Urban crime was virtually non-existent
Shma: you're the only sane Nigerian who can argue without lacing your arguments with insults.
Back to the topic, by that small history on your screenshot, At least we can Identify one factor that qualifies it as a planned city, the strategic place matters a lot and environmental/climatic factors are the core indicators of that. As you can see, it originated from a cool region 'cool waters' that shows the city destination was planned, . Let's start our convo bro, we have already tackled one.
It doesn't qualify it as a planned city.
This the definition of a planned city.
new town - a planned urban community created in a rural or undeveloped area and designed to be self-sufficient with its own housing and education and commerce and recreation
rvp20182: Building a brand is the most difficult part of a business. You can produce the tastiest of chocolate but in super-market shelves - it will be ignored. The big brands spend billion dollars on advertisements and have history backing them. So the best option is to have chocolate makers relocate to Africa and bake them here....brand them anything...get taxed here..and provide employment here. One single job from Nestle factory will support 10 Ghanians.
Ghanaian chololate is everywhere in Asia. This is what I saw with my eyes in one of the Asian country.
Don't forget, we have an upcoming indigenous chololate company in Nigeria. LoshesChocolate(FO)
Shma: I said as compared to Lagos, dude, Why do you like shifting goal post, or you're afraid the egbo will turn against you
Rvp, here is today's topic, We want to discuss three capital cities ;Lagos, Accra and Nairobi. We want to see which city is planned and which one is not.
Definitely, Nairobi city was not planned. I have my facts.
rvp20182: The topic we have debated to death - Nairobi came tops - by far - and West Africans resorted to the usual whites, Indians and Chinese excuses.
Nairobi was not planned. It was a railway depot that grew to become a town.
AskiaHarem: Photos showcasing Nigeria Beyond Lagos[Eko] or Abuja. Nigeria isn't a 1-2 city country after all it has to develop it smaller Cities and Towns as well.
Freddykrueger: I meant the south south states [akwa ibom, rivers, delta, bayelsa]. The rest of the states wether from the SE, SW, NC, NE, NW are all leeches but the bolded are the real parasites. Can you now go to hell?
Money from Lagos port was used to develop Nigeria before oil was ever discovered. So, without SS, Lagos will still develop through its port.
oyatz: If the SS were to be a country on its own, with each State having crude oil and no singular overwhelming majority tribe, in about 50 years, most of the tribes would have diffused into one emerging super ethnic group.
Itsekiri will never be same country with Ijaw.
In fact, other groups will prefer to not on their own.
vaxx: not really, it is for faster and reliable confidence in the test done in rural areas. Ghana for a population less than 30 million has over four equipped lab that can test Coro . and over 120 mini tuberculosis lab that are presently undergoing face lift to meet the standard that .can test the virus.
our biggest lab ( noguchi) can carry over 2000 test in a day .
jl115: Only South Africa and Ghana have done something recognizable with regards to fighting Covid19
SA has tested over 140 000 people and Ghana over 70000, SA and Ghana also have the lowest infections rates in Africa(and one of the lowest in the World) when we factor in the amount of tests done.
Kenya has only tested around 15 000 people and Tanzania has not published testing data!
We are not competing with numbers because we have a strategy. That matters.
Besides, as at yesterday we have tested 10,000. 5,000 a day.
mtisTheQubit: Some years back in college had ths buddy (Chinese doc/prof-dont know...my teacher...mandarin..i quit )..anyway thats how i come to know some weird characteristics of Chinese in africa..guys are weirdos an africa should be prepared ..ths guys are into everything illegal.the scary part is that they like Africans but with different skin..they deal with any shi.t as long as makes money...
You are not far from the true. They can do anything to make money.
Kenya: Chinese Nationals arrested with ivory, leopard skins, and suspected dog meat
Chinese nationals were arrested with suspected rotten dog meat, ivory, leopard skins among other contra-bands after police raid their residence in Kilimani, Nairobi. They are suspected to be engaging in dubious businesses in the Nairobi city and will be arraigned in court to face charges.
Some Chinese are into illicit businesses in Africa.
Kazikazi: Why u say he posted without thinking? You are wrong dude.
A guy took a lot of time to think before he posted that junk.Actually the guy believed he have posted the best report ever! The only problem with that kiberan is his thinking capacity. He has a very low IQ,hence he ended posting that junk. He took a time to think, but his IQ let him down. Very sad
Ah! You mean his thinking capacity is low!? Ekpe! Hahahaha!
mtisTheQubit: Why do you always put Ghana in such position..why not let it go when you see cant win..people have been posting best roads in africa an ya still dragging ghana in the play ..why na.. Ghana is no where
