EducationRe: Lagos To Ban Unintelligent Students From Public Schools by freeR1: 6:17am On Nov 12, 2013
theoctopus: What is tax exemption? You people are wicked and criminal. You collect taxes from jobless and homeless people and come here to post trash! Awon Ole! You people are very heartless and ungodly! You treat the poor like dirt. You talk nonsense about people going back to their villages as if Lagos indigenes are not part of the victims of this your elitist and corrupt policies, geared at extracting money from the public for Tinubu and his cronies! Continue to stuff your pockets with stolen money and if you like, concession everything to Tinubu's family. One day na one day! Ole buruku!
I thought we could have an educated debate but you result to this? wow!!! If Tinubu is your problem, deal with him! That has nothing to do with being a responsible citizen. You were quick to mention Japan in your earlier post. Is it possible to live in Japan and not file you taxes as at when due even as a foreigner? In US (Including "legal foreigners" with no SSN) the poorest of the poor living on food stamps must file taxes to the IRS before April or they risk jail or fine. I REPEAT "IF YOU ARE JOBLESS AND HOMELESS, YOU WILL ONLY BE REQUIRED TO FILL AND SIGN SOME PAPERS. YOU WILL NOT PAY A KOBO, IF YOU ARE ASKED TO PAY, REPORT TO THE AUTHORITIES".

Paying/ Filing taxes is your civic responsibility. Nothing is "Ungodly" or "heartless" here. Even Jesus said you should pay 10%!

theoctopus: Are jobless people supposed to pay taxes? Please answer me or shut up!
"Jobless people" with no income are still required to obtain a tax clearance. What they get is a tax exempt certificate just like startups or companies running at a loss. Don't mistake tax clearance for paying tax. A lot go into paying tax. For those who go about paying 5k, I am sure it is out of ignorance or they fall into the unskilled labour category. If this is the case, because their income cannot be properly determined, LASG has a 3k flat rate that they are asked to pay "they are not jobless" (Maybe it has been increased now).

Not paying tax is a serious offence (carries a jail time). It is encouraged to know the tax policy of your state and always get your tax clearance at the beginning of every year.

Sincere 9gerian: Why did you concede to that lower animal? If the reverse was the case, they would never concede anything to you. Rather they will unleash more and more venom. They'r hypocritical nematodes.

By the way, the report said Lagos State govt purchased (not "lend" ) 300 cars. Fashola must explain the whereabout of those 300 cars.
This is the quote “on June 23, 2012, the Lagos State Government applied for Waiver of Destination Inspection Charges and Duty Exemptions for Coscharis Motors Nigeria Ltd, the official Automobile Partner for the National Sports Festival (“EKO 2012”), to purchase 300 vehicles on its behalf for the event. Since the Lagos State Government met the laid down criteria, the waiver was granted.”

Coscharis purchased the vehicles on behalf of LASG for the event. LASG never purchased any vehicle rather, as an official partner, Coscharis supplied the vehicles to LASG. The vehicles remain the property of Coscharis. It is a win-win deal to the two parties. This is a usual practice when hosting such events. Anyway Fashola is no longer a tribalist, he chose to partner with an igbo man (Coscharis) instead of Elizade (a yoruba man). Why is no one noticing this?

What is the lie? Her grandma was iyaloja long before Tinubu was a governor. It is in their family just like Asipa, abore etc titles. Obj holds a chieftaincy as 2nd in command to the Oba of Owa or so. If he dies, his son or grandson will get the title.

What is your issue with Tinubu exactly?
PoliticsRe: PHOTOS: Tinubu's Daughter Crowned The New Iyaloja Of Lagos State by freeR1: 8:19pm On Oct 29, 2013
If you are not a Prince, you cannot be a King. Iyaloja is a title in her family (Tinubu family), they nominate for the Kabiyesi who they want so what is the feud? Just tradition.

Exactly what SR wants you to think (SR is not anti-gej but a progressive). This is very poor journalism. One will expect that SR will go further to contact leaders of each market to know exactly why the markets where closed and who gave the order. Ladipo market would have been a good place to start since they are at loggerheads with APC & Fashola. If SR really want us to believe this crap report, we need to know who ordered the closure of the markets? If it was Fashola's administration, Oba Akiolu or Tinubu. Oba Akiolu also celebrated his 70th birthday but only Tinubu's name was isolated for the reason of this condemnable act! (Pathetic).

EducationRe: We Merged Osun Schools To Improve Standard Of Education - Speaker by freeR1: 6:32pm On Oct 18, 2013
superstar1: Please all of you shouting osun a Dara or what is the nonsense slogan or like Awo like aregbe, should just explain to us how school merging will boost education.

Is there a special transportation arrangement in place by the government to cushion the effect the distance some students will always have to convey on a daily basis?

Why are all the students wearing the same uniform like a communist state.

Why is osun state or state of osun's educational policy different from that of the federation.

How will a Muslim kid insist she will be wearing hijab in a baptist or catholic school? When she can easily seek admission to a full Muslim school. The merger has an undertone that must be explained.

Why the hurry to merge and start a policy that teachers, parents and citizens of the state does not understand.

In aregbe's quest to perform and be unique, he should also realise this is not a military regime, where he can just take a decision without explaining the nitty gritty to the people is expected to be responsible to.

Can Fashola dare all this in lagos.

This is totally irrational and without logic.

I don't want any abuses from anybody, just reply my questions objectively.

If after this warning you still decided to go through that path, bring it on.

Thanks
I will try to provide answers to your questions.

Your first question seems to be the best to me. I think this is the exact question we should ask so that we can improve government policies to better serve the people. I huge Ogbeni to look into this and make school buses available were they are not

I do not support the idea of all students wearing the same school uniform because there should be distinction. That said, it actually make economical sense for the state government if "it" is paying for it. Buying in bulk is always cheaper and smarter. I will suggest that all students should have ID cards carrying the school names to provide some uniqueness.

When has being different a crime? You have no point here

Why should their be a catholic or baptist public school? Is it a PPP? I think religion should be removed entirely from public service. For the muslim kids, we need to find a way to accommodate them. This is left to the state house of assembly, if they think this kids should wear their hijab then fine we all must allow it (Next election, kick them out).

This law was passed by the legislative arm of government. Yes it may have not been publicised enough but it is the law. (If you don't like it, kick them out in the next election or lobby your constituent rep to repeal it)

Again, it was passed and approved by both legislative and executive arm of government. It can now be tested in court to see if due process was followed. This was in anyway no decree.

This is Osun not Lagos. If you notice, their are no "tolls" in Osun.

It is rational but needs improvement and better PR. Now lets see if it will work, I really hope it does.
EducationRe: We Merged Osun Schools To Improve Standard Of Education - Speaker by freeR1: 6:10pm On Oct 18, 2013
Valto: How can merging a Christian and Muslim schools bring the much needed improvement huh Two separate religion that av very different views.. Imagine sending an islamic scholar to madonna university and a pastor schooling at convenant university to a strictly muslim university. Mixing a strictly girls school with a strictly boys school, all in the name of merger! Seriously this arrangement is a time bomb!
How is mixing boys and girls a time bomb? Seriously? Like 90% of schools in Nigeria are not already mixed. Schools that want to be based on religion should be private schools. Any public school should never be based on religion because that is the real time bomb. Concentrating resources meant for 3 schools on one school (if properly managed) will result in better infrastructure and better teach package in that one school which should then have the effect of better standard of education.

Note: Political parties with clearly different ideology and goals successfully merge and try to find a middle ground, that goes for companies with different strategies and products. There is no reason why schools cannot be merged since their sole goal is to educate and prepare kids for the future. Perfect synergy! As for the religious aspect, let them all take their religion home and to places of worship!

PoliticsRe: Nigeria's Middle-Class Increases By 28 percent!! by freeR1: 6:39pm On Sep 26, 2013
smurfy: Friend, statistics don't lie. You just have to wait a few years to see the results materialize in the lives of the people. Take what is happening in Osun state as a case study. Nigeria is growing. Data means fact, you know.
Statistics lie, especially when data is wrong but even when the data is right, statisticians still have a way of making it look all good. Just a simple example for you. If you gather 5 people in a room with various income eg; 5,5,5,5,100, you can easily say the average income is 40 which is right but the median income is 5 which is the true state of things. The "100" among the data is called the outlier which depending on the result you want to get, you can either leave out or include in your data. Now you have ways to correct this eg skewness, approximation to normal distribution etc. Bottom line, based on a data given, I (statisticians) can make a really terrible situation look at least ok.

That means from 100l to 400/500, all As and just about 2 or 3 Bs over all. HOOOOOOOW na? angry angry angry angry angry

Even Uni lag and UI first classes would be like 4.6 or that range.

Btw, this ain't envy but just awe!!!
4.96 is not impossible, in fact in 2008 a friend of mine was the best graduating student in Unilag (from dept. of Mathematics) with 4.96. They guy is now in Harvard doing his phd. If you go to Ivy schools in US, you will find a lot of Nigerians from Federal Unis. My question is, why don't we find 1st class grads from private unis in Ivy schools? At least 80% of 1st class grad want to do a phd but instead, you find most 1st class grad from private Unis going to a regular/ below par university in UK for maters. Schools that require no gre or gmat and will even give a 3rd class conditional admission and 2.2 straight admission. Is it about quality?

Congrats, but if you had used real money, you will have never had gone this aggressive. Looking at your portfolio, your "BETA" will be astronomically high so if you use the "Sharpe Ratio" for example, (risk adjusted return), your return will be really low. My advice to easykobo.com is that, next time use risk adjusted return methodology to pick your winner. We must educate the uninformed investors that the goal is getting maximum return for the lowest risk. I can make 1000% return by buying junk bonds with high "Duration" but in real life, I will be making no return. I can go on and on but I hope you got my point. Congrats again "Chinedu" but note that you still have a lot to learn in this our game.

How dismissively ignorant some of you can be! How could you even think 3 teenagers would run away from their famiilies and actually enjoy being molested/ill-treated by an abductor.

Let me give your vacuumed black head something to visualize. Three teenagers in a cold hardware room. The only window is ceiling-high and covered with thick nylon bags. Probably, there is even a surveillance camera in the room to which these inhumane abductors watch in turns. They push in tiny bits of food to them through a small space in a door most likely made of steel.

What did I say about unsustainable, media-friendly initiatives that hurts the tax-paying, long-suffering residents of the state of the living spring?
This is not about ACN or PDP, it is about simple economics. Your point noted, "the rail is working" but the airport serves a good purpose too. I expect export to international markets soon. The airport in Osun will create employment and also generate revenue for the state "that is fact". I also expect the state to begin marketing its tourism potentials especially the Osun Oshogbo festival. An airport in the state will also be excellent for this purpose.
PoliticsRe: Osun Names Airport After Abiola by freeR1: 3:38pm On May 03, 2013
misterh: This is not about remaining stagnant. It's called scale of preference in basic economics. There are better issues to contend with. The capital city, Osogbo is the only place where enough economic activities take place. Others are just small towns where majority of the people there are low income earners. It's not to bulid airports but will airlines patronise your airport?
Scale of preference does not fly here. Let me educate you a little bit. Osun is a land locked state which is a serious disadvantage for any economy because of the restrictions of the mode of transportation to air, road and rail. The rail is clearly not there so this calls for good air and road system. If Osun can develop its agricultural sector which is clearly doing and make it as good as that in Kwara state, air system will definitely be needed. I will expect them to target the international market. People here have argued that the airports in Ibadan and Lagos is enough for this purpose but why should he create more jobs for the other states when he is not in "full employment economy" and why should he not maximize the state’s revenue generating from agriculture, mining and now aviation? Its basic economics, true!!
PoliticsRe: Obi Betrayed My Father – Ojukwu Jr by freeR1: 3:17pm On May 03, 2013
Most people and I may not like Tinubu but this further buttresses the fact that the man is a true leader; APGA has 2 sitting governors with so many crises. ACN has 6 governors and several legislators but you rarely hear of crisis. I think this is the reason PDP is scared of this man.

Techwriter: There is no need for a response. Kukah said his mind based on his level of understanding and does not represent the opinion of most of us who believe nothing wrong with our pastors having the good things of life provided it was gotten legit. Oyedepo for instance has never taken any political stance, he is not seeking the favor of any political leader to be relevant. He is not seeking their favor for anytn.

I respect Pst Tunde Bakare so much, infact I campaigned for and voted for him in the last election even though I know he sometimes speaks b4 editing. He is still anointed and he is a prophet but he should not join the camp of the accuser of the brethren. Kukahs own is understandable becos the leadership of CAN has left the erstwhile cold catholic approach to become a voice of its own
I bet you were not in Nigeria when Bishop Oyedepo was flown to Saudi and he told us Yaradua was in good health and he spoke to him, we all know now that it was a lie; if he does not get any favor from govt why lie? The problem with Nigerians is that we forget!!!
