A Coalition of Civil Society Organisation for Peace and Good Governance yesterday protested at the National Assembly, Abuja.

The protest was against alleged misappropriation of funds allegedly approved for the establishment of cattle ranches in the country.

National President/Convener of the groups, Jonathan Ogwuche, said N100billion naira was approved for the project during the era of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The protesters lamented the death toll from herdsmen and farmers’ clashes, which could have been avoided, if the funds were judiciously used.

They warned that the situation could threaten the foundation of the country, if urgent steps were not taken.

The protesters displayed placards, bearing various inscriptions.

They expressed concern that some individuals who do not have the interest of the country at heart, have continued to engage in acts that are inimical to the progress of the nation.

According to the CSOs, Jonathan approved the money in 2014 to mini ranches nationwide to curb the frequent clashes between herdsmen and farmers.

Ogwuchie disclosed that the National Economic Council (NEC) ordered the release of the money, which was not properly accounted for.

They called for the questioning of ex-president Jonathan under whose watch the alleged fraud was perpetrated

He said: “Even as we are aware that the money was released without the approval of the National Assembly, there was no evidence of how it was utilised.

Baro Inland water port is located at Baro, Agaie Local Government, Niger South Senatorial District, Niger State.

It became of paramount importance to successive Nigerian Governments to develop the port but all the efforts put in place since 1980s have proved abortive.

Late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua awarded the contract for dredging Baro port and expansion of river bank worth billions of Naira. The project was slow due to the nature of the then Government.

After the death of President Yar’adua, President Jonathan directed the Ministry of Finance to transfer N19 billion intervention funds for the dredging of the lower River Niger to the Ministry of the Niger Delta for shoreline protection and land reclamation. He also directed that the contract should be executed in four weeks.

The meeting, which was attended by governors from the Niger Delta states, also resolved that the most urgent requirements are land reclamation and shoreline protection, instead of dredging of the lower River Niger.

That was how the Baro Port project died naturally then.

When President Muhammadu Buhari came to power he promised to uplift Nigeria through economic revival. And we are seeing some signs that the economy is getting recognition. Baro Port should be seriously recognized and completed.

Several times, PMB did say he will make sure all the abandoned projects are completed and Baro port is one of great and vital projects to be completed in order to help government achieve it economic aims.

If Baro inland water port is completed it will create over two million jobs to the teeming youths. It will help with the decongestion of Lagos ports. Northern Nigeria is land-locked with no single sea port, however if Baro port is actualized transportation hiccups would be drastically reduced.

Revenue will increase and millions dollars in foreign exchange will also be saved. Even the agricultural revolution will get a massive boost.

But Goodluck was contesting that time that's why Buhari won in Kano. Don't forget that the same Kwakwanso won in PDP in 2011 while Buhari's candidate lost in CPC. People voted for Buhari in Kano under CPC because he contested in 2011 against Goodluck a Christian. Remember, Goodluck got 1.8 million in Rivers state 2011. Do you expect Goodluck not to win too in Rivers? Buhari lost to Yar'adua too in 2007 even in Daura, Buhari hometown. Buhari in 2007 was defeated to Yar'adua, which was 6 million against 24 million. The refinery is 100℅ privately funded and the oil to be refine will come from Niger republic so what bring Niger Delta into this?

President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, has debunked speculations of offers being made to him by the Presidency and All Progressives Congress to keep him in the party.

He said that though there had had been discussions on some national issues, talks of offers to him by APC leadership or President Muhammadu Buhari was not only untrue but unfortunate.

The media had reported that the Presidency and APC National Chairman, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, had made overtures to influential leaders of Reformed All Progressives Congress (R-APC), which had stalled their planned mass defection from the party.


The reports had said that Buhari, his deputy, Yemi Osinbajo; and four APC governors allegedly met on Thursday with Saraki, to discuss the grievances of R-APC and some other members.

Oshiomhole was also said to have met one-on-one with Saraki, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, and governors of Sokoto, Aminu Tambuwal and Samuel Ortom of Benue states.

Oshiomhole was also reported to have met with former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwakwaso; and APC caucus in the National Assembly, with a view to dousing the defection threat. But in a statement on Monday in Abuja by Mr. Yusuph Olaniyonu, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Saraki said was myopic for anybody to talk about certain offers being made to an individual.

He said that the future of the country and its democracy were at stake, and not the issue of give-and-take.

Saraki said, “I saw some reports talking about promise of money or oil block and nomination tickets.

“Those viewing the ongoing development in that context are simply reducing a major national issue involving many key actors to that of personal benefits and preferences.


“I believe at this point (that) it is important for me to make some clarifications, end speculations and make my position clear.

“It is important for Nigerians to know that the discussions that I and many others of like minds are having with the Presidency and leadership of APC is not about me and what I want.

“It involves the future of our country and her democracy. It is about making things better for our people.

“Though there are many speculations being peddled in the media, let it be known that these discussions are not about me.

“Our focus should now be about Nigeria. The major issue on the table for discussion is how to strengthen our democracy, rebuild our economy and stop the spate of insecurity.

“It is also to improve the conditions of living of our people and generally chart a course for the development of this great country.”
