I am thinking on the expenses on school fees and other dues that I will spend in 300l till graduation and other factors.

Rather than doing that, why can't I just spend the money on Medicine.

Albeit, I am at the same time scared of not wasting those money I spent in 100l and 200l

I am really in a tight corner on what to do.

yes, the minimum requirement to do surgery is the MBBS certificate which the medical interns have.

It is one thing to be certified, but another thing to have the experience necessary.

To those who think they scored low in UTME, the journey is not over yet. I repeat "The match is still very much in play".
Did you know only 800+ students scored 300 (0.06) lowest in the last 4. And I can bet that out of this 800, 350 are mathematics students(engineering aspirants), 150 commercial students, 100 arts and guess what just about 200+ for medicine and surgery in the whole country.

Even if you have 250+ Infact 240+, the game is still very much open for a comeback. I don't care what your score is if you can get 90+ or 360+ in post utme no matter the school whether state or federal, you will definitely be admitted.

And if you scored 280+ if you like be feeling like Messi and don't fire on all cylinders if Mr 240+ beats you with 10 marks guess what, he has just displaced you.

The failure rate for this year is high only 45% could score above 160 and above that means over half (700,000) of the 1.3 million are ineligible for university admission. If you give up na you fvck up.

I will leave you with this quote "if you think you can you are right. If you think you can't you are also right". Good evening

There are some scores that can't get you medicine no matter the failure rate, medical students that will score above 300 for a particular school will still pass 1000+ out the thousands of people that chose medicine bro, stop all these motivational quote about failure rate

Like sometimes , I just laugh when OAU people talk about competition in their BDS,if they come to UNEC what will they do

Well I'm so glad UNN have gotten back their senses they admitted only 14 Dentistry this year and about 174 for Medicine, same cutting for nursing too, now they parked the remaining people to M.L.S UNN admitted almost 600 people in MLS this year and RADIOGRAPHY too close to 450 the quota for M.L.S is 75 ooo

The quota for BDS in oau is 25 and they've already admitted 18...so you'd agree with me that the competition is damn sick

I just dey laugh I'm in 2nd BDS
Class that's 300L Dentistry (People who will write 2nd MB by November) in UNN we just finished 2nd BDS part A we were over 145 Students who wrote the exam we got 86 percent pass, now we are over 170 cause the upper class joined us (those that didn't pass the previous 2nd MB) and we are fighting for a quota of 15 slots imagine 170 students for 15 quota well it's like MDCN is coming to increase our quota by Nov rumour has it that they may increase it to 30, but even at that 170 Students for 30 slot is still small, that is what they call competition not this... 25 being the quota shouldn't be over emphasized, the aim is to gain admission

Where you once a UNN student?
I can tell categorically that passing first yr in UNN is very simple if you no what u really want

Many students fail to attend classes in Year1 in UNN they start reading big big books on their own in their lodges and hostels omitting classes whereas they teach the simple ones in classes and set most of the class works as exam, the secret too passing UNN first year is by attending classes(many don't cross over to UNEC), although the class maybe crowded just squeeze yourself anyhow and jot things from the lecture, esp for PHY and CHEM, you can read BIO and it derivatives (ZEB 122 BIO101 BIO152 BIO154 BIO151) in your house they set from the textbook

After the first year many of them don't cross over, Cause UNN doesn't allow for cross over if you have a Carry over in phys chem and biology

Education / Re: Optometry , Dentistry Or Physiotherapy? by Froshchuksswart(m): 7:17am On Mar 10, 2021
It's so funny how people compare Optometry to Dentistry, same people can't compare Optometry to Medsurg ooo, lol if you say Optometry is better than dentistry then you are indirectly saying Optometry is better than Medicine lol, is there any MBBS graduate Manning a Full hospital...? They depend on salary till dey become consultants and can manage a full hospital, a dental surgeon can set up a clinic and man it fully and do small minor oral surgeries, a dentist can also be a consultant in a medical field and consult for diverse hospital and still own a private practice, a dental surgeon has many opportunities he can be CMD, he can head federal ministry of health wtf...! And you are comparing him to someone who studied in life science...? Nawa ooo guyyy Dentistry is wey bigger than Optometry the only specialty that beat dentistry in terms of lucrativeness is OBS and GYN with General surgery, even paedratric cases must pass through a general practitioner (someone who earns same salary as a general dentist) before getting to the paedratric doctor and the baby may even get healed before getting there, a neurosurgeon can not perform any surgery in the brain without a cranofacial surgeon puncturing the skull...!

Is it in academia...? A dentist can still be a lecturer with just his MSC and teach faculty of basic medical science along side working in his clinic..!

This OrigiB about what is his name is just a comedian, he hasnt visited a dental clinic ...? How many patients die of eye lens problem, a dental pain can cause total dysfunction of the whole body, he be like say oral problem never do any of your family member before...!

Dentistry beat Optometry hands down, compare Optometry to Dental therapy

In my class I have many dental therapy student who re wrote jamb to come and study dentistry after working in a dental clinic and seeing the BLOOD MONEY dentist make, they re wrote jamb and entered dentistry guyyy chill, I beat you....!

So we all, like the thread suggested are Medical students.
The reason why I asked is because; I wanted to be sure the guy you are exchanging words with is a Medical student or someone that is not in any medical course.

Thank you sir I appreciate...As regards my timetable it really work for me, I finish p.n okeke physics textbook in 2days it even made understand physics better than ever..I do take little breaks like 30minutes for daydreaming...You see sir, reason why am I want to be a doctor is because of the sickness that tormented my dad for 18yrs, he had stroke back then we were poor as church rats, no good treatment for him, nobody came to his rescue even his blood brother living next door to us never even for one day came to check on him when he was deteriorating with this sickness, I was helpless wishing I were a doctor to save him from excruciating pains he encounters on daily basis even at night we can't sleep well because of his cry for help..The stroke reached its climax and affected his brain, his vision ie eyes etc to cut the story short I watched him died a helpless man..And I vowed to be a doctor no matter what..

Do you know Physiotherapist handle stroke too...? Inshort a physiotherapist will handle stroke better than a Gen practioner,so if you want to help people with stroke you can still try out studying PHYSIOTHERAPY

Hello Deeemphasis01,

I want to share my experience with you as regards what you stated. I recently graduated from the University of Ibadan with a degree in Physiology and gained admission to study Dental Surgery at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Here's what I did.
My project work in 400L didn't start until second semester so I wasn't really disturbed by the thoughts of it.

1. During the break between 300L and 400L, I did not go home. I stayed back in Ibadan to begin preparing for the UTME.

2. When we resumed, I made sure I always had data to check my class group on WhatsApp because some of our lecturers are wont to always rescheduling classes as they deem fit (some of the classes didn't eventually hold).

3. Again, I intentionally missed classes to stay back to read for the UTME. I always made sure I called my friends to help me sign against my name or write my name on the attendance list.

4. I always made sure I knew about tests early so I had ample time to read for the Physiology test, putting away UTME temporarily before picking it up again.

5. Some of my classmates thought I was unserious, now they know better. Don't take it to heart when you get those vibes and don't publicize your affairs or have someone publicize them on your behalf.

6. For lecturers whose classes had marks attached for attendance (meaning they counted the number of students present, as compared with the list), I made it a rule to always attend their classes.

7. When I was to go write the postutme at Zaria, I had a test in Ibadan clashing with my exam at Zaria. The course was taken by a consultant who has a joint appointment at the Department of Physiology, COM_UI and the Department of Oral Pathology, UCH. I couldn't take the risk of disappearing and coming back to give her reasons for my disappearance.

So, I wrote a her letter(with attached evidence) and I had a friend deliver it to her by proxy on the day of the test. Place your letter in an envelope and address it as appropriate. It makes a good impression. When I got back, the woman asked about my journey, the exam etc. And I eventually wrote my test in her office with aircon cool.

Another Professor, I didn't hear about his assignment until the evening preceding the day of deadline. Can I kill myself? The following day, I went to his office, explained myself and asked if I could submit mine at a later date, baba asked me "Listen to yourself, does what you're saying make sense, please leave my office". Thank God I didn't waste my time. Grumpy old man.

Another lecturer I missed her test, an impromptu one. After explaining myself (I just told her I travelled), she told me and a classmate who was also absent to pick a day among ourselves for our make up test. We even moved it by a day again, very awesome woman.

My point, don't expect all your lecturers to be thesame, write letters (to the ones you might be missing their test or exam) informing them formally.

8. On the days I attended classes, immediately classes were dismissed, I went straight to my house. No waiting for friends for gists as we sauntered home, I faced the task with a singleness of purpose.

9. Pray and commit it all to God. He's not coming last on this list because he's the least. It's because he's the ultimate. Nothing happens outside of the creator. His grace is all that's needed. If you're a Muslim, don't miss your Salat and do it with the whole of your mind.

As regards preparing for the exams,
1. Get your JAMB recommended texts(and those recommended by other persons preparing for the UTME). I can't really remember the names of most of those texts so I wouldn't dabble into that.

2. Master calculating without a Calculator because even JAMB's yeye calculator won't do you any good. Although you should have a calculator to help you review your accuracy.

3. Know the square-root of numbers from 2 to 10. Excluding perfect squares including 1 since it's a perfect square. Special angles and Conversions.

4. Draft up a syllabus of English of your own. Don't depend on JAMB's English syllabus, it's an eyesore.

5. Pay attention to diagrams, charts and their labellings. Know and distinguish properly between things that can mess you up before you enter the exam Hall, imagine confusing Mixed Salts and Complex Salts. The different approaches to calculating relative density. All those things matter.

6. Don't take any subject with levity. They all carry 100 marks.

7. On the days of the UTME and PUTME, go with the notes you have formed from the different books you have amassed. You know the Nigerian Factor affects everything in this country. I was supposed to write my exam by 9am, I entered into the Hall by 1:30Pm.

8. Preferably take a soda just before going in to raise you Blood-Glucose levels. Your brain really needs it. When you get into the exam Hall, calm down first. You don't have to start when you're asked to, it's CBT remember. Make sure you're calm before logging in.

9. Start from the subjects that aren't time consuming: Biology, English, Chemistry and Physics, in that order. When you encounter a question you don't have an answer to or you're unsure, skip immediately and come back later, chances are that you would get it right at the second attempt.

And don't leave any question unanswered, even if you don't know the answer, always pick something eventually, there's no negative marking.

There are instances where questions and answers are out of sync, usually go with the most logical of options.

10. Past questions go a long way too. Try to solve questions from 10-15 years ago. You don't have to solve every question. Just endeavor to understand the concept behind the topic.

11. You might make some mistakes, we all do. Don't beat yourself up for it.

I wish you the very best my friend.

Kindest regards.

This guy will go to ABU and scatter their MB with distinction esp in Human Physiology i hail you boss

I'm tired of reading some NONSENSE in this thread, why are we too religious in NIGERIA So if someone dies now it's the will of God...? grin you are funny ooo,so if someone just wakes up one morning and goes to the highway knowingly and got smashed by a trailer because he died,it's the will of God smh....

Zeeknow, you are very funny....! Please let's face reality, vet Medicine is not lucrative in Nigeria...! I won't lie to you, except you have an entrepreneurship mindset, even with the entrepreneurship mindset where will you get capital to start a Private practise when you can't even get placement after internship.

Better chase your MBBS There are diverse opportunities in MBBS/BDS who you chase residency and be a Consultant while working as a resident doctor you get your pay,but you see this vet enh,it takes the grace of God to survive in it,you may even get depressed after getting the DVM degree and take note if you want law after DVM you would have to start from SS1 after your DVM so as to get your subject combination, why not channel all these energy in smashing jamb and stop the hatred and also die this your idiotic ideas
