Christianity Etc › Re: Do Messianic Prophecies Prove That Jesus Was The Messiah? by FxMasterz: 3:43pm On Apr 15, 2023 |
Jokanem: Do Messianic Prophecies Prove That Jesus Was the Messiah?
Yes. While on earth, Jesus fulfilled numerous prophecies about “Messiah the Leader,” the one who would be the “Savior of the world.” (Daniel 9:25; 1 John 4:14)
And even after his death, Jesus continued to fulfill Messianic prophecies.—Psalm 110:1; Acts 2:34-36.
What is the meaning of “Messiah”?
The Hebrew term Ma·shiʹach (Messiah) and the equivalent Greek word Khri·stos (Christ) both mean “Anointed One.” Therefore, “Jesus Christ” means “Jesus the Anointed One,” or “Jesus the Messiah.”
In Bible times, a person was often anointed by having oil poured on his head when he was appointed to a special position of authority. (Leviticus 8:12; 1 Samuel 16:13)
Jesus was appointed by God to be the Messiah—a position of great authority. (Acts 2:36) However, rather than anointing Jesus with oil, God anointed him with holy spirit.—Matthew 3:16.
Could more than one person fulfill the Messianic prophecies?
No. Just as a fingerprint identifies just one person, the fulfillment of Bible prophecies points to just one Messiah, or Christ. However, the Bible warns that “false Christs and false prophets will arise and will perform great signs and wonders so as to mislead, if possible, even the chosen ones.”—Matthew 24:24.
Could the Messiah appear in the future?
No. The Bible foretold that the Messiah would be a descendant of King David of Israel. (Psalm 89:3, 4)
However, the Jewish ancestral records going back to David have been lost, apparently having been destroyed when the Romans conquered Jerusalem in 70 C.E. a Since that time, it has not been possible for anyone to prove that he is of the royal family of David.
In contrast, though those ancestral records did exist in Jesus’ time, not even his enemies successfully challenged his claim of being a descendant of David.—Matthew 22:41-46.
How many Messianic prophecies are there in the Bible?
It is not possible to specify a definitive number of Messianic prophecies. For example, the method of numbering prophecies can vary even for passages that are clearly Messianic. The passage at Isaiah 53:2-7 mentions several prophetic features regarding the Messiah. Some might count this entire passage as one prophecy, while others might view each feature as a separate prophecy.

vannessa7: Anyway I have since arrived at some derivative due to my experience of both religion, I have read the Bible through several times and I'm reading the Quran now in English version and I've been through it once and I'm reading it again, i was shocked to discover the Quran wrote about the Bible from beginning to end, it is like a commentary or verification of the Bible, however, I'm also surprised that through out the Quran God made it clear that serving others as partner to Him is not allowed, He said on the judgement day He will call Jesus and Mary mother of Jesus if they were the one that told people to worship them and they will say no and those worshipping them along with God will be thrown in hell, I now remember the 10 commandments where God state that we should not worship anything along with Him, not things in heaven, on earth or under the earth, I also thought of the Lords prayer given by Jesus to his disciples, He said we should pray to God in heaven, even all the miracle of Jesus he always attribute them to God, however the Holy Quran says any one who does not believe in any of the prophets will not make heaven including Prophet Mohammed(SAW).He said Jesus came through the word of God , be, sent to mary, You were never a Christian! You're a liar! Well, lying for Allah is permitted in Islam. So, this does not come as a surprise. You can't have an encounter with Jesus and be filled with the Holy Spirit only to come and spew all these gibberish. A messenger of Satan the father of lies using lies to promote his dead god. Brainmytool: Please don't mind that i had to qoute you. Please answer these below questions: 1. With the present situation in Nigeria lets assume we have 1000 Christians. You and I know very well that about 970 of these christians are poor and living in undesirable conditions. Now about 20 are a combination of genuinely rich men and corrupt people seeking to be covered by the Umbrella church. Then the remaining 10 are our church leaders and their families who live off the the proceeds of the 970 poor congregants. Without sentiments, can you tell me what ur church in particular has done for the society other than this guide ur soul threat? 2. Most Nigerian christians are working as public servants. Now tell me 5 companies built by churches to employ just her members not other church's members in Nigeria? 3. Are Nigerian christians better than Chinese, Indians, Koreans, saudi Arabians, Kuwaiti citizens just to name but few? 4. Can you name just one thing the church has built for the society in Nigeria except bigger churches? 5. Can you prove verifiably that our God Almighty is the only one and true God making the Gods of indians, Africans, Chinese, Greeks the false ones? Remember prove verifiably. Dont tell me the bible said because these gods have their books. Dont judge with the book of a particular god making ambigous claims yet his so called people are left in poverty. First, I'll like know those whom you refer to as Christians. Everyone who goes to church? There are many people in Churches today, the majority of them are not Christians. Among them are Satanists, armed robbers, prostitutes, idol worshippers to mention a few. Are these all Christians? No. The real Christians are very few. Now, let me answer your questions. 1. Your assertion that 97% of Christians are poor is an assumption. Can you provide your data source? True Christians are few and the majority of them end up wealthy even though they started poor. Do not despise a Christian in his days of new beginnings because his later end would greatly increase. Do Pastors really live off the wealth of the poor people of the church? That's another assumption with no concrete footing. People give to pastors willingly and joyfully because of the impact the pastor has made and is making on their lives. Nobody is ever forced or coerced to give. Any pastor who does that is an armed robber. A mesanger of Satan disguising himself as a servant of God. Painfully there are many of such mesangers of Satan to whom many have fallen preys. Since they refuse to seek knowledge, therefore they cannot discern. Moreso, the church of the Lord Jesus Christ has a primary assignment on earth - to secure souls for eternal rest with God. The issue of wealth is a secondary issue. I don't know why you prioritise material wealth over the destination of your soul. 2. Christians as well as non Christians work in many organizations built by Churches. 'Churchism' is not sectarianism. Whatever the church does, it does for all, not just for church members alone. There are thousands of companies out there owned by Churches. 3. There's nothing like Nigerian Christians or Chinese Christians. Christians are Christians. Therefore, Nigerian Christians are not better than Chinese or Korean Christians just as Chinese and Korean Christians aren't better than Nigerian Christians. For every good thing of life that a Christian may desire, there are laid down truths and principles in the Bible. A Christian's lot in life is determined by how much he follows those rules and apply those principles. Ordinarily going to church changes nothing in the life of a man. Devils also go to church and infact there are devils behind many Church pulpits who claim themselves to be pastors. 4. The church has built hospitals, orphanages, schools, roads and provided social amenities to many communities. There are millions of students on the scholarship boards of the church. Most of the pre- ttertiary Institutions you see today were built by missionaries. Some of the best universities in Nigeria today are owned by Churches. 5. You want a proof of the true God in christiendom? That's not anything difficult. You can make an experiment yourself. Visit a true church, and when going, be sure to go there with the most powerful witch or Satanist you can ever find around you. You can gather as many of them as you can and enter a true Christian Church. The experience would be enough for an answer. I do not need to prove anything to you. Encounters with the power of the Almighty God are common occurrences in true churches. Just go there and test the power. |

Ourtruth247: I'm afraid of what truth you spoke? Lol.
You exposed yourself as a close-minded brainwashed person who is afraid to think outside the religious box he is residing in
I have no single benefit to derive from sharing this knowledge. Left to me, I honestly wouldn't bother and I'll just use it for my own spiritual development. But something so powerful that I can't resists forces me to share the knowledge.
You can only determine the usefulness of knowledge from its impact. The knowledge you are trying so frantically to warn people not to get tainted has not made a noticeable positive impact in your country. Nigerians are still suffering, the majority of the population is poor, and the country is still underdeveloped. You are still at the same bottom rung of the ladder that you were when you first gained the knowledge, and yet you still cling to knowledge, like people under a powerful form of mind control.
You can't even carry out free and fair elections; wallowing in sin and murdering yourselves on a daily basis like chickens. What has the truth you are afraid of losing really done for you all as a society? If you really have the truth and it's spread as widely as it is, then it should create a palpable positive impact that can be felt around the world. But the reverse is the case. Again, you're ranting because I exposed your intentions. People who have the true knowledge of God and apply same don't suffer any of those things you mentioned. Those who suffer them are those under satanic captivity. The true knowledge of God gives you victory over Satan and puts him under your feet. True freedom is with God. Satan has nothing to offer mankind. Those higher forces pushing you to write these things have their aims which you know quiet well. I warn every reader to guide their hearts. Do not allow your soul to be entrapped in occultism. If the OP means well for you, he shouldn't have any problem with such a simple advice as 'Guide your hearts. Do not destroy your soul.' Since I never said do not read what the OP is writing. He's finding fault in such a simple warning because he wants you to do the opposite. He doesn't want you to guide your hearts. He wants you to destroy your soul. Readers beware . Any knowledge that draws you closer to Satan and takes you far away from the Almighty God would destroy your soul. Readers, beware. There's no profit in occultism. |

Officialgarri: I do not want to contribute to some of the things you mentioned as I may not have enough knowledge of history and astronomy as much as you do
However, I'll raise an objection on the rubric of ancient technology and their supposed impossibilities to attain accuracy.
Humans from existence have always been a super curious animal. We always want to know what's on the other side. Hence, Astronomy, Science and Technology.
That our elementary books told us about primitive humans who tilled the soil doesn't mean humans that existed thousands of years weren't more scientifically and technologically inclined than "modern" humans. They had astronomy!
They understood science better. They are the foundation of science of today. Everything that's built today and that will be built in the future will always be based on their own inventions Remember the saying; "there's nothing new under the sun"
The difference between ancient technology and modern technology is "how work is done" but in any way, "work must be done" !
It may bother us how it's almost impossible to build magnificent structures like the Pyramid of Egypt e.t.c , have straight straight edges on stones like that of puma panku without laser technology .....and make glass blocks like the crystal palace —without modern technology! NO! I DISAGREE .
These ancient humans built Technology with the science they invented, but their technology was crude and hectic and required ample laborers.
There were large numbers of laborers and slaves. There were large numbers of skilled artisans. The blacksmith, the woodworkers, the masons. Then there were animals used for transportation in their droves.
They were so crude and understood the basics of science and technology, and they would achieve it in the hardest and harshest way they could.
That's how the made those structures but the tower of Babel in the Hebrew Bible fell !
The human work force in the 1900s to that of the 2000s and that's basically because of advancing technology. In maybe 100 years to come, only 1 human will be enough to build a mansion using technology. It doesn't mean it couldn't have been possible that the buildings today couldn't have been achieved using 300 artisans? I support your argument. Infact, the book of Daniel in the Bible clearly tells us that there was a school of astronomy and science in Babylon where students graduate after passing an examination. Nebuchadnezzar the king was said to have built a magnificent statue of enormous proportion. Additionally, the book of Job is traditionally considered the oldest book of the Bible. It should astonish you that Job who must have lived about 4,000 years ago could ask high level astronomical questions as seen in Job 38:31 "Can you direct the movement of the stars— binding the cluster of the Pleiades or loosening the cords of Orion?"Ourtruth247 should consider that the ancient humans grew up under harsh circumstances in hard terrains. They were crude and could even walk thousands of miles over many days to migrate. The many African tribes that have settled in various parts of the continent moved on foot from distant places. Consider the Yorubas who moved from Arabia, the Hausas who moved from Sudan without any locomotive assistance other than their legs. Such a thing would have been considered impossible today but those who made the movements were humans like us. Not super beings. Regarding the architectures you posted, a large workforce in tens of thousands are usually employed for such tedius jobs in ancient times. These ancients can go to any length to achieve a dream. Many lives would be lost in the process but under the instructions of very tyrannic kings and overlords, what must be done must be done. I do not object to your position of a pre-adamic civilization. This is even established in the Bible. Neither do I oppose your view about super beings being responsible for those creations you listed. My point is that the possibility of these things being done by humans like us cannot be completely ruled out. |

Ourtruth247: Actually the Sumerian civilization predated the Jewish civilization by over 1000 years, so it's more likely that the Sumerian version of creation is closer to the original one, and the Jewish creation story is more diluted. The creation story of Genesis was directly from source. Moses wrote it by inspiration. The Sumerian version might be older, that does not mean it isn't dilluted. It all depends on the number of years it first existed orally before it was written down. The creation story in Genesis was a revelation given to Moses by Higher Beings. Some of the things you've written here on this thread have biblical explanations, including the pre-Adamic civilizations. |

Ourtruth247: The Sphinx
The sphinx is an interesting structure, and for lots of reasons. It sits in direct contradiction to the lies that we have been told about our current history.
We are told that the Sphinx is just 4500 years old. But the base of the sphinx shows signs of precipitation induced weathering. Such weathering can only be caused by erosion which occured as a result of about a thousand years of rainfall
The last time rainfall of that magnitude fell on Egypt was during the younger dryas period, which is about 12000 years ago. What this means is that the Sphinx is at least 12000 years old.
The earliest human civilizations we know of is the Mesopotamia civilization, dated to about 5000 - 6000 years old.
If the Sphinx is over 12000 years old, it means that there have been civilizations on earth advanced enough to build something of that magnitude pre 12000 years ago. How were you able to accurately determine the time of a rainfall to know it fell 12,000 yrs ago? |

Ourtruth247: The Sumerian story
The Sumerian story is one of the oldest stories about creation. It is called the Eridu Genesis and was discovered on a single fragmented tablet by a historian.
What a lot of Christians don't know is that a lot of the creation story in the bible derives from the Eridu Genesis as well as the Epic of Gilgamesh which is another old story, passed down and adopted by different cultures.
I don't want to dwell on the particulars of the stories, as they have obviously been diluted, and no one actually knows exactly when the original story was told, so I will focus of general theme of the story and the drawings depicted by the Sumerians. The Creation story in Genesis differs considerably to the Sumerians'. We can apply the dilution of knowledge theory to this. The first humans have the true story of the creation as depicted in Genesis. The Sumerian version is a dilution of the original story passed down through many generations. |

We have the full history of Israel dating back to over 3,500yrs. Show me where the Samaritans were ever mentioned in any text universally. It doesn't even have to be a Jewish or Samaritans text. Just make sure that such reference or references to Samaria or Samaritans is as old as Moses. That would be the end of the discussion. This issue needs no dragging. It's absolutely unnecessary. |

LegalWolf: I think I’ve seen the image clearly now. Perhaps, it took a while to load on my browser. Anyways, what point does that prove?
Cc: potential thief TenQ You were the one who asked for source regarding my claims about the dating of the Torah. |

LegalWolf: Lol! I just keep laughing. You’re ignorant, adamant, and uncritical. You see why I avoid xters like you?
I can’t see any image. Kindly reattach
2 Kings 17:29
Howbeit every nation made gods of their own, and put them in the houses of the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities wherein they dwelt. King James Version
You can check other translations for your attention.
Lol. It’s irrelevant which Torah I believe. And it’s even your hypocrisy for me - you believe the Jewish version simply because you’re a Christian and the pseudonymous writers of your Bible said so. But deny a people’s version of their own history. Lol!
Anyways, it has never been fruitful discussing with any of you. What was I expecting?
Cc: potential thief TenQ The book of Kings was written about 1500 yrs after Moses. It was during the era of kibg Omri that the city was founded. Samaria came to exist 1500 yrs after Moses has left the scene. Moses, his children, grand children, great grand children and all those who lived in their eras never heard the word 'Samaritan' throughout their lifetimes. Agreed that the word appeared in the book of Kings, it was an error of omission on my part. However, the word was never in use even in the times of David, Solomon, Rehoboam who ruled all Israel before the splitting of the kingdom. Even Jeroboam the first king of the 10 tribes never heard of that word throughout his life. Where did Mohammed get the Samaritan of Moses' days? This is the very Crux of the matter. It doesn't concern me whatever you believe about the Torah. All I know is that except you can prove the Samaritan existence in Moses' time, you've believed in a lie. Your objection to this doesn't change anything. I have reattached the image of the source confirming the dates of the Torah. No, it matters because you were making claims that the Jews had their first history written by Josephus. Meanwhile, the Torah which contains a great detail of Jewish history was written before Josephus. You have challenged me in a previous post to provide source, and so here it is again in the image below:

LegalWolf: On G! It is! So what is your source for this? Do not tell me it is the OT abeg! LOL! See attached image for source. I initially thought this was a mistake BUT it appears this barefaced lie. Samaritan was mentioned in the book of Kings. Was that 'about the time of Jesus'? On your text, go and check the Samaritan Torah. That always return back to my question - WHY should we take the Jewish Torah over the Samaritan one as correct? Can you provide the reference in the book of Kings where the word 'Samaritan' appeared. Note: The bone of contention is the word 'Samaritan' and not Samaria because no one was ever called a Samaritan until the days of Jesus. You can choose to believe the Samaritan Torah simply because of the Samaritan story in your Quran. The Torah belongs to the Jews or may we say in general terms, the Israelites. Who in your view are the Jews or the Israelites? The Samaritans, huh? When Mohammed referenced the Torah and the Gospel in your Quran, which Torah did he reference? The Samaritan Torah? Huh? After answering those questions above, you should choose which of the Torahs you wish to believe. cc: TenQ

LegalWolf: Lol! You’re just a better version of TenQ - obstinately adamant in your refusal to either construct a logical argument or defend a position. I think we must agree on two things:
a. You absolutely made incorrect statements in respect of Samaritans history; and
b. You’ve returned us back to ground zero!
Yes, anyone can put a blog AND SO anyone can put up a Biblical text. And it is false that samaritan version does not have a source! It does - check the blog well!
Again, like I said, I would have done you the favour of posting research articles. But you cannot even do one second research on the topic before making outlandish claims! Really?
Hahahaha, this goes back to the point I’ve asked earlier. You’re referencing the Bible on Samaritans as an authoritative source. WHY SHOULD WE BELIEVE THE BIBLICAL/JEWISH VERSION OF YHEIR HISTORY OVER THEIR OWN
Lol! Speculation is your forte. But on a logical note, let me ask you this question. You agree the Samaritans have their own Torah, right? And they claim it is the correct version (and Jewish one is false)?
What plausible explanation would they have to the authenticity of their own Torah other than it is directly received from Moses? Logically, it is impossible for them to argue Jewish Torah is correct if if Samaritans accept that the Jewish Torah is older than theirs . Their book either has to be contemporaneous or older than the Jewish Torah.
This is the problem - every single conversation with you folks end up in conjectures, what ifs, make beliefs etc. You folks penchant for dogmatic and fanatical apologetics is mind boggling! And that’s why I prefer cruising with you all then even taking my time.
Do you know disappointed I would have been if I’d taken my time to get research articles making reference to the Samaritans version of their history and you’re coming up with this utter gibberish. Thank God I trusted my guts!
Everything you’ve said assumes the Bible is correct. Please answer my question in highlights!
Lol, it is even your audacity for me! So what makes the Jewish biblical “logical … and stand the rest of historical scrutiny”? Tell us and please don’t stray away like the stray advocatejare
Cc: Potential thief TenQ Abeg this is getting really interesting. I cannot even believe that someone would be debating about Samaritans being a tribe of Israel in Moses' time. Haha! You don't know anything! The first recorded history of the Jews was written in 1200 BCE. Josephus wrote only between AD 75 and 79. So, what points are you trying to make? Over 1,000 years of Jewish written history contained nothing about Samaritans because that time they were none existent. The word 'Samaritan' came into prominent use during the days of the Pharisees and Sadducees (about the time of Jesus). Just give us a text dating back to Moses' time that clearly proves the existence of Samaritans at the time. You don't need to post links. A screenshot would do. Don't tell me to start researching on something that does not exist. |

LegalWolf: TenQ and I diverge on a very fundamental level, however we converge (albeit strangely) one point - faith should not be blind. It must proceed from reason. And this begs question why I do not waste my time discussing with you folks. Let me break your statement down!
This is false. Again, just a simple google search would have saved you of this embarrassment. Just to hint you: the Samaritans have their own Torah, which they claim was the original one given to Moses. This Torah is written in Samarian script which is different from Hebrew. I can go and on to keep discussing the history of the Samaritans in their own words but you cannot even undertake a simple google search but just come here to make wild claims.
Links: (I hope I do not get banned) Take a look at this blogs (emphasis on the Samaritan version of their own history)
a. https://segulamag.com/en/articles/who-are-you-samaritans/
b. In fact, let me even stop here.... I can't spoon feed you folks.
This is false again. Like everything you said. First of, according to them, they were there during exodus and claim to be direct descendants of children of Jacob. And even the second statement is untrue. To this day, Samaritans exists in Israel around Mount Geriziml! So why make baseless comment
LOL, I should post link of samaritan history? I speak English, Fulfude and Yoruba (with a slight Hausa and Arabic). So how on earth am I to get the links of Samaritan history by Samaritans where it could be written in Samaritan language? Anyways, I have shown you a source (and I could go ahead if I so wish BUT which I won't do) to pull out research articles establishing that Samaritans predate Moses. And I think I hang my pen here!
cc: Potential thief TenQ Anyone can put up a blog you know? The story rendered about the Jews in that blog referenced the biblical texts as the source of its information. The purported story about the Samaritans on that same blog has no source. It's quiet laughable that a tribe of Israel that partook in the Exodus with Moses would now be disowned and totally disenfranchised by the whole nation. Perhaps, you do not know that Israel is a brotherhood. The whole nation descended from 12 brothers, and during the days of Joshua, the made a covenant to continue coexisting as one nation. It's understandable that the Samaritans could formulate a story to cover the embarrassments regarding how they landed in the land of Israel. Even the Igbos claim to be Jewish today, meanwhile, history books make us know they do not really know how they migrated into Nigeria. That history is lost on them and so they decided to claim Jewish. Could we then begin to accept their stories as facts? Is it possible for a Samaritan to be in the journey with Moses from Exodus and the Bible wouldn't say a single thing about them until the days of Jesus Christ. The word 'Samaritan' didn't even appear in the Old Testament for once. We have the history of how Samaria was created. Then, the inhabitants who were not Israelites later became known as Samaritans. Can you tell me why a whole tribe of Israel could be completely alienated from Israel so much so that it is considered a sin against God if a Jew has interaction with a Samaritan? Would you tell me why a tribe of Israel would suddenly be regarded as a gentile nation by Israel? Well, you've chosen to believe that story because it's written in your Quran. Mohammed believed the Samaritans story and therefore included it in his holy book. But that story is false. And from all logical points, it cannot stand the test of historical scrutiny. |

LegalWolf: I asked you a couple of questions which ultimately unraveled your position. To these questions you’re mute and I do not have an answer to this day. Just to recap:
1. Your understanding of “Samaritan” history wholly follows from the OT, right?
2. What about the history of the samaritans according to their own tradition ? Do you know it substantially differs from what is told in the OT as you have it?
Would have posted link, but the last time I did, I got banned. Could you check up on no 2 and get back to me? Let’s have the discussion from there!
Cc: potential thief TenQ My brother, there's no history of Samaritans written by the Samaritans anywhere in the whole world. The Samaritans just existed for a small period of time during the time of Jesus Christ. No one heard about them anymore after the fall of Jerusalem in AD 70. I challenge you to post the links of the Samaritan history written by the Samaritans themselves. |
