My Solar community I greet you all from my Lunar abode.
Help me to celebrate my 6years journey into use of solar energy. It started in the year 2016 with 2x150AH 12V SMF LA Ba3s which were decommissioned in the year 2020 following decline in storage capacity. Currently running on 2x100AH 12V LIFEPO4 Ba3s courtesy @Juo,which started 2years ago and today celebrating 2years of use.I must say Lunar energy is sweet as I run all equipment completely offgrid.........
Posterity will not forgive me,if I fail to commend all who had contributed in humongous amounts the knowledge acquired via this space. All I have learnt is from here, even though it had started working on electronics and electricity from a tender age. I do every connections my self and I give kudos to all here both online and offline for the wealth of knowledge........
All I can say is taste and see.........

Any changes in your LiFePo4 capacity after 2 years?

Finally here to seek advice on this solar installation. I hv a plan to have 3.5kva or 5kva solar to power my house. I will like a neat and compact sizing hence am looking at going for the lithium battery.
Hoping to power 55inches smart tv , 394 liter Samsung refrigerator, 7 led light , 3 rechargeable fan .
I will like to start using the solar but which comes first as i intend to start without panels but will buy the panel along the line and build up .

Pls i need advice on the way around this thing .

Thanks

How long do you need to keep these things on? TV? Fridge?
That matters since no solar, then check the back of the TV and back (or inside door) of the fridge how many watts on the sticker.

Or if you use prepaid, how many units do you consume in a day/month?

Post those, experienced people here would be able to help.

I've gotten a lot of help from here too.

2 examples isn't all, My cars sound like new with years of use and the people I use know what they are doing because now I take time to get basic understanding of whatever I want to get myself into.

That way, I can easily detect anyone who wants to bullshit me with technical terms. I pay competent people more than they ask for my mechanics leave everything and come to my place if I call because they know that.

When I got a Peugeot brand new in 2008 I used SCOA for servicing and repairs.

When the car had fuel pump issues about 4 years in it was someone here on nairaland that solved it for me, they parked my car for months after I gave them money that could have been used for another car.

Google them.

In 2020 I took a car for respray to a fancy place in GRA close to Mandela car wash.

They took the car apart and it never was the same when they put it back together, the door caught fire 2 weeks later because of bad connections they made.

If you know PH you'd know the place, it's not cheap in any way.

I can go on an on

Looooool stay in your lane at your own risk.

I'd pay professionals but I like to know what they are doing biko.

I'm the one spending

That's how anytime I get a new car they tell me to remove thermostat and put double cell radiator when it's part of what kills engines fast here.

ceaser:

Few days ago, had a mechanic work to replace a stripped alternator belt that made battery charging poor. After office hours and tired from the day's work, I just paid him, jumped into the car and drove off.

25 kilometers later and rather too late, I noticed the temp gauge had almost risen to max and steam coming out from under the hood so I interrupted the trip to allow for cooling. Reason for this nonsense is that the mecho had pulled off the plug supply to the radiator fan and so I reconnected it. Refilling the radiator, I noticed the gasket was blown already.

So much for a 15 minutes change of alternator belt.

Some years ago I started my car and it caught fire

Why?

Trusted mechanic didn't plug in engine fuel supply hose properly after working so it disconnected during the day and poured fuel on the hot engine when I tried to start it.

If I had known and double checked what he did would have noticed it and avoided that trauma.

I'm alive today is God's grace

"Stay in your lane" encourages ignorance which doesn't help anybody even the experts were not born with the wisdom, they made mistakes and learnt.

With the way the average professionals behave it's better we learn.

I know what I went through in the hands of "expert" mechanics till I started learning about cars.

Same thing with solar.

If we stopped trying after falling the first time learning to walk as babies we won't ever walk.

He made a mistake, let him learn.

A professional probably suggested that "mppt" for him.

Oshomo12:
If you are a lawyer, stick to the law, doctor, stick to medicine, and most especially if you don't know anything about electricity, dc/ac, stay clear of solar DIY. If you don't love yourself, don't risk the life of your loved ones. How much do you think you are saving by touching what you have no idea of? That was a very expensive mistake.
Well, life is so cheap in Nigeria.

I just blew my inverter sef, the 48 volt somehow blew my inverter, I hope it's the fuse and not something else. I will go and get a felicity charge controller Tomorrow.

The battery to 48v or cc setting to 48v?
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by gadgetplanetng: 12:31pm On Sep 04, 2022

I don't know how to set the charge controller.

It's all connected in parallel, 24v 200w x 6 in parallel

If the cc is real mppt then increase the incoming voltage.
2s3p like somoeone said

24v panels are roughly 40v.

You can afford lithium battery and still use pwm cc. ....

It's working for him.

He has 24/7 power.

When he's ready if needed he'd upgrade it, he already upgraded the inverter.

I don't really understand how this works and how 12 pieces 200ah will amount to 600ah.

Maybe using A * B methodology would help.

Can you please elaborate on it?

Series and parallel connection

4 batteries in series (voltage adds up) 48v 200AH

Make 3 rows of that then connect all in parallel (current adds up) so 48v 600ah

Gracias. A direct company contact is something much desirable at a time like this in Buhari's Nigeria when one can't afford to pay inflated costs for unguaranteed quality, especially when it has to do with making installation for clients.

My main issue even is the quality.

A lot of these sellers just go to people's shops and sell you what they see there (oso ahia) so they can't vouch for the quality or source even.

For those with Hybrid inverters or mppt controllers,

How close is the solar wattage displayed to the size of panels you installed?

Eg if you have 2kw of panels do you see close to that in your input

I'm looking at mine today and seeing 5% of installed capacity instantaneously right now (series connection).

I'd replace the panels next week though but I'm just curious

Replaced panels and I'm getting over 80% of sticker capacity right now (2pm).

Lol I'm actually avoiding recommending brands.

I think people that install a lot of systems and monitor them long term would be in a better place.
For me,
I have:
Auxano panels - 350w (I got them from the company as my previous panels I got from 2 separate dealers here weren't performing anywhere close to sticker capacity
Easun Hybrid Inverter - low idle power (your model might consume enough for a refrigerator just being on), no need to buy separate charge controller, compact
LiFePo4 battery pack - Can discharge to 80%, should last longer than normal lead acid, consume less space and more aesthetically pleasing.

High Quality surges, fuses, breakers and co (especially because of the inverter)

An experienced installer can give better recommendations

toyeoye:

Makes sense. Okay let's talk brands.
Which have worked for you and may recommend to first timer that wants no stress
Panels
Inverter
Battery
Charge controller

AC might come up at night when we enter hot season. Wait can we not put off freezer for example to power AC/microwave on? There is no heater. Also would prefer to have the refrigerator on all the time and can switch off freezer at night.

What setup and brands would you suggest?

Only the AC would run your battery bank down to 50% in like 4 hrs (estimate)

You'd need more batteries too - or use fans at night
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by gadgetplanetng: 8:37am On Aug 17, 2022
If none of the AC, heater, refrigerator, microwave etc would come up at night/in the evening then I'd say add more panels.

toyeoye:

The main ones that will mostly be powered on are the freezer, refrigerator, 2 TV, 7 CCTV(24/7) and sockets for charging phone and laptop. All others are on occasions,
Borehole 2ce a week
A/C once a week cos of this weather
6W and 12W led lights indoors only at night
Same for 50w flood lights at night
Microwave and washing machine will be used while we turn off other big appliances.
Etc.. Your advice is also welcome on how to ration this effectively.
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by gadgetplanetng: 7:54am On Aug 17, 2022
Let us know when (day or night) and for how long each would be used per day.

@olopan made a calculator
toyeoye:

Interesting. Thanks. Another thing to consider is that all these appliances are not in use at the same time or even all the time you know. How can I factor this into the setup. I also intend to be rationing, e.g when borehole is on, I can turn off refrigerator and freezer etc.

What about the BRANDS?

Thanks
