Politics › Re: Killings: Buhari Tells Benue Leaders To Restrain Their People by gare(f): 7:18am On Jan 16, 2018 |
highrise07: President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja Monday met with shareholders from Benue State over the recent killings in the state and asked them to restrain their people. Buhari, in a statement later by his spokesman Mr Femi Adesina, called on the government and people of the state to exercise restraint following the recent attacks on some communities. The president assured that all the perpetrators of violence in the state would be made to face the wrath of the law. “Your Excellency, the governor, and all the leaders here, I am appealing to you to try to restrain your people. I assure you that the Police, the Department of State Security and other security agencies had been directed to ensure that all those behind the mayhem get punished. “I ask you in the name of God to accommodate your country men. You can also be assured that I am just as worried, and concerned with the situation,’’ the president said. He said all those involved in the conflict that culminated in loss of lives would not escape justice, including any illegally armed militia in the state. He commiserated with all the victims of the attacks, and the families who lost loved ones and properties, noting that the government would make efforts to ameliorate the situation of all the victims. President Buhari said relevant agencies had been directed to start catering for the humanitarian needs. He told the delegation that his administration had already begun a process of finding lasting solution to the perennial challenge of herdsmen conflict with farmers and communities around the country. He said the Inspector-General of Police had been directed to relocate to the state to provide security for lives and properties, urging all Benue indigenes to trust the security agencies and report all suspicious cases of movements in the state. The statement quoted Governor Sam Ortom, who led the delegation, as saying the tension would be reduced with the Federal Government’s intervention to find a lasting solution to the herdsmen attacks. “We will leave here to rebuild confidence in our people,’’ he said. The Tor-Tiv, Prof. James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse, was quoted as saying his entire domain had been thrown into mourning due to the incessant attacks.. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/killings-buhari-tells-benue-leaders-to-restrain-their-people.html Your Excellency, you have spoken as a leader should, and the people of Benue state would take your advice and remain calm, believing you will do as you said and your instruction to the various security agencies will be carried out. But if there should be more killings in Benue state, it will be very difficult to restrain the people, so in other for us not have anarchy in the state, please all hands should be on deck to ensure this those not happen again in the state and other state. It may interest you to know that your coming back to office will be determine by how you are able to manage this herds men issues, just like GEJ regime was decided by Chibok Girls and Boko haram and Corruption, as for your regime, you have failed in terms of fighting corruption, becasue your government has been linked to multiple corrupt cases by high government ranking officials, the fight against Boko Haram is getting worse, and now the herds men are on a killing spree. Mr. President pls do the needful to stop this herdsmen. |

evanso6226: 2019 General Election : “If We Lose In The Election, We Will Go Home And Rest - Rotimi Amaechi
Rotimi Amaechi, the Minister of Transportation, on Saturday spoke on the 2019 general election. He charged all members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to work hard to ensure victory for the party in the presidential, governorship and legislative elections.
Amaechi also assured that there would not be imposition of candidates by the APC during this year’s primaries. He spoke during a reception organized for him as grand patron of Ikwerre Youth Movement (IYM) at the Movement’s national secretariat at Isiokpo, Ikwerre local government area of the state.
His words: “The 2019 elections, especially the governorship, are our last battle. If we win, we will take over Rivers State. “If we lose in the election, we will go home and rest. “We will not impose any candidate. Anybody who will go for any position, like chairmanship, should go for primaries. “Anybody who wins will be the party’s candidate.”
The former Rivers governor said it was important to ensure rotation of power among ethnic nationalities in the state. He urged members of the APC and IYM register to vote, noting that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State can only be removed through ballot.
“As Ikwerre people, we must give out the power to other ethnic nationalities. But we will be in a position to take it back at any time. Your future is in your hands. “The President (Muhammadu Buhari) said that there would be no rigging during the 2019 elections. It is to our advantage.
“Go and register to be eligible to vote and to put the candidates of your choice in power”, Amaechi stressed.

People fled Ojobo community in hundreds after soldiers stormed the community in 10 gunboats. According to an eyewitness, Soldiers arrested Karowei's girlfriend. The eyewitness said;

metronaija: Dakuku Peterside, the Director General of Nigeria Maritime Authority has described the placement of cash ransom on 32 alleged notorious cultists, kidnappers, terrorists and murderers in 12 local government areas of Rivers State by Governor, Nyesom Wike in a statewide broadcast on Monday as ‘a mere smokescreen to cover the failure of his regime to protect the people he swore to an oath to protect.’
“That speech is nothing but an attempt by Wike to massage a people already traumatised, who daily bear the marks of their bruised pride. The agony of this situation is exacerbated by the knowledge that while Rivers burnt and roasted, Wike cared less,” Dakuku a former governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress said in statement issued by his media office on Tuesday.
He added that Wike made claims that need further interrogation to actually determine their validity, or, it was an arm of a state propaganda in the broadcast.
Dakuku said, “The first that needs scrutiny is Wike’s allusion that because he visited the families of the bereaved in Omoku and pledged N200 million ransom on the alleged killers on New Year Day, the chief suspect, Johnson Onyedibia, aka Don Wani, was gunned down.
“The fact is that in a state where a sitting governor values the lives of subjects, such calamity would have warranted a visit same day.
“But it took Wike days and that was after he had been informed that President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, was sending the Interior Minister to visit Omoku. So, in the face of this even Wike’s visit to Omoku belies sincere grief for the families.
“As always, rather than own up to obvious failure, Gov. Wike made an unsubstantiated allegation against an unnamed “former governor and his ilk”, claiming they had interfered with the state government’s amnesty programme. Lies, no matter how long told, will never cover the truth which in this instance is that Wike’s Amnesty programme was not planned to end insecurity in Rivers State but to offer state cover to designated criminals for purposes known to their patrons.
“In his warped understanding of governance, Wike believes that offering financial baits would turn his page of complicity in this whole saga around. Rivers people cannot be fooled by this display of ineptitude. Wike’s offer of another tranche of cash on criminals is no remediation for the pains, loss and agony caused families.
“Leadership is humane. This is an attribute grossly lacking in the man who oversees the once-sought-after Rivers State. How can Wike face families whose breadwinners and loved ones were gruesomely murdered by the criminals to tell them that oil companies, other politicians outside his fold, Federal security agencies were liable for the murder of their loved ones?
“How can Wike stand against good conscience and the families of the 23 massacred on New Year’s Eve in Omoku, to absolve himself of their death being the state Chief Security Officer of the state?
“Has Wike bothered to empathize with Egbeda community for the gruesome murder of her mothers, father, sons and daughters a few days back? The situation in Andoni is no less worrisome. Can Wike in good conscience, absolve himself in the bloodbath that has turned the state into “Rivers of Blood”? Good conscience would not absolve the guilty.
“Would he as the Chief Security Officer of the state, with unhindered access to daily security statistics, feign ignorance of black spots and flashpoints in the state he was expected to be governor?
“Wike cannot deny that there existed a functional security architecture the previous Administration had instituted that secured the state and made it habitable. Being a key player in that Administration, at least, in its early days, offered him huge access into that structure. But Wike, rather than strengthen it, blew all away in his attempt to erase records of his predecessors. In the face of this, if anybody played bet with the lives of Rivers people, it was Wike.
“Wike’s speech was a warped absolution that presented those persons named as the reason the state had collapsed right in his hands. Nothing can be farther from the truth than that.
“The governor had a lot of grace period to have moved to save the several lives of innocent, law-abiding Rivers people and residents lost to the carnage and orgy of bloodletting imposed on Rivers State by criminals and their sponsors.
What Wike has done, therefore, amounts to submitting to an admittance that he reneged on his oath of office, and so, had failed Rivers people.
“If not, how could it take Wike over 30 months to admit in public that the real governors of Rivers State were criminals?
“Rivers State is already flat. The statistics say so. In its recent listing, a verified agency listed the state as the most miserable state to live in Nigeria at 79.37% rate. With unemployment and underemployment rate at 61.4, the highest in the country, and inflation at 18.01%, the state is already broken.
“The best that Wike can do for the state at the moment, is to end this blame-game and sincerely, for the sake of the state, and for the memory of those whose lives had been brutally ended due to the state’s siddon-look, work with the Federal Government to end this tragedy.”

Since the broadcast by Gov. Wike, many are still asking a plethora of questions. Why did the governor know those persons as criminals as he claimed and never did anything since he came into office over 2 years ago? Why did he not make the names of those individuals available to security agents for arrest, investigation and prosecution? Why were those names kept until Don Wani was killed before he made them public in less than 48 hours after? Were those names given to him by security agencies? Indeed, how were those names generated; where they generated in Government House Port Harcourt or by the police?
THE NAMES ACTUALLY CAME FROM THE SECURITY AGENCIES, AS THE CSO OF THE STATE HE GET SECURITY BRIEFING EVERYDAY ON ALL ISSUES CONCERNING SECURITY, SO THE NAMES WHERE GIVEN TO HIM BY THE APC CONTROLLED FEDERAL SECURITY PERSONNEL( DSS, POLICE AND ARMY) |

The Police Command in Rivers says “boys” of late Johnson Igwedibia, aka Don Waney, are regrouping to cause more mayhem in Omoku, Ogba/Ndoni/Egbema Local Government Area and its environs.
The command’s Spokesman, Nnamdi Omoni, disclosed this in Port Harcourt on Tuesday while speaking to newsmen.
He revealed that intelligence reports showed that the “boys” were regrouping for further killings of innocent persons.
The late Igwedibia, a cultist and terror, had on Jan. 1 killed 23 persons that were returning from crossover night church service in Omoku.
He was equally shot and killed on Jan. 7 at his hideout in Enugu.
Gov. Nysom Wike had in a state broadcast on Tuesday morning charged the command to fish out notorious criminals in Rivers and bring them to justice.
Omoni, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the police would “go underground” as well as intensify intelligence gathering to arrest notorious criminals in Rivers.
He appealed to the public to assist the police with meaningful information that could lead to the arrest of criminals in their communities.
“The public should be security conscious and at alert on what is going on in their environment,” Omoni said.
The spokesman said the numerical strength of anti-terror, anti-kidnapping, anti-cultism and anti-robbery units deployed to Omoku in the wake of the Omoku massacre would not be reduced until the community became safe.

higherpower: The Head of Presidential Anti-corruption Committee, Prof Itse Sagay, has again voiced his concern over some recent rulings of the Supreme Court on election petitions, particularly those held in Rivers and Akwa Ibom states. Sagay, who spoke with newsmen at the Olu Palace, Warri on Saturday, warned that the rulings, which allow people who were declared winners without elections in spite of copious evidences of irregularities and heavy human and material casualties, set a dangerous precedent in the history of elections. “The judgements are very perverse, particularly relating to Akwa Ibom and Rivers. Everybody knows that there were no elections in those two states. “Everybody knows that people like Wike climbed into the governorship seat over dead bodies and over bloods of human beings. There were no elections, they wrote the results; the evidence is there,” he said. According to Sagay, what the Supreme Court has done is to set the clock of electoral excellence and fairness and credibility back by, ” I do not want to say a thousand years, but certainly it is taking us back to where we were before Jega came in and sanitize the system.” “We are going to have primitive and barbaric electoral culture; ‘kill as much as you can, destroy as much as you can, create as much catastrophe, but if you can find yourself on that seat, you are confirmed, regardless of the means by which you got there’. “That is a very major setback to democracy and the rule of law,” he said. Similarly, the erudite constitutional lawyer also flayed the present crop of Supreme Court judges, insisting that they have degraded the court from decades ago when the Nigerian Supreme Court was ranked among the best in the world. “I remember 15, 20 years ago, we had a Supreme Court that is the best in the world – better than the one you have in the US. That was when you had Justices (Kayode) Eso, (Andrew) Obaseki, Anyagolou, (Adolphous) Karibe-Whyte, Bello and so on. Those people brought a culture to the Supreme Court and most of us thought when they left the culture would remain but it hasn’t. “New people have come, much younger people, and they have different approach to life because I don’t understand why you would have law, which is in conflict with justice and you prefer to apply that law – technical law, which is in conflict with justice. As we have seen in the case of Akwa Ibom and Rivers and a few other cases. “So I think their orientations are different. I think the older ones who are gone believed that justice was number one. In such a case, you ask where does the justice lies? They now interpreted the law in line with justice. “But now what we have is a group of people in the Supreme Court, who do not care where their legal interpretation is leading them. Once you have a divorce between law and justice, the whole legal system will break down and that is what has happened,” he added. Prof Sagay has also called for disciplinary actions against Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) and other senior lawyers who are seen to be encouraging corrupt politicians and looters of the nation’s treasury. He said, “There are a group of senior lawyers who have totally departed from anything that the calling of the law profession requires; they have thrown in their lots with the looters and have become, I won’t call them fellow looters, but definitely, they have started enjoying and sharing in the proceeds of crimes of these looters and because of that they are absolutely now against the anti-corruption law. “There is need to have these Senior Advocates thoroughly disciplined and if they would not accept discipline, they need to be removed from the profession before they bring more disgrace to the profession and at the same time drag this country down economically.”

ericsmith: killings go on in a community under a state with a living governor and everybody is shouting n blaming buhari .... did ambode n amosun wait on buhari to keep lagosians safe wen militants invaded lagos . we all are clamouring for restructuring yet all our reasoning n criticism is 100% centralized to FG... wen do we start holding our governors n local govt accountable for things that happen within our immediate environment.. when crisis happen within lagos, ambode should be held responsible because he was elected solely by lagos ..the FG is only entitle to provide further support. nigeria will progress when we start building from ground to the top not the vice versa we are use to,, governors primarily have the mandate to protect lifes n properties of its territory ..buhari did not appoint the governors we elected them .. so why alway neglecting there incompetences. can you read thru what you have just written again, so why did you shout GEJ when Chibok girls where kidnapped was there no Governor in the state? what all the warnings and signals he got he did nothing instead you guys transferred the whole thing to GEJ and till date you still blame GEJ for chibok issues, but now that your messiah is being called out you are here making references.
