chukel: It can be fixed. first of all, is the speedometer working? If not, is ur ABS light on? It can be as little as ur ABS fuse. It can also be from a P0500 code. It can be from one of ur wheel speed sensors. Scan the car. I'm assuming the speedometer is not analog, otherwise, its cable things.
Export1: Hello, my friend. This might be useful for you. There are two parts so maybe some advises can be nice to try. Have you tried to fix it?
I don't live in either lagos or abuja, all the prices I mentioned are obtainable in most large cities. Meanwhile your friend paid 250,000 for a 2001 corrola engine?
Ogawisdom hope your left foot is not on the brakes while accelerating?
Meanwhile did you modify your strauts? As in raise the height of your car? If you did you it is your culprit. Its also posible you did the christmas travell thing and overloaded the rear (booth) once you do that the car becomes unbalanced when you take off. Now that its empty try it again.
FlyboyZee: YesYes, they are expensive. My friend followed the popular Nigerian Toyota hype to buy a 2001 Corolla and he is planning on dumping it for another brand barely a year after, citing cost of spare parts as his reason. Prior to that he owned and drove a Mazda 323 which he still missed till day. Don't follow the crowd unless they are following Jesus, my dear.

Tayulo: Thanks for your suggestions,it started immediately i changed the oil,the mechanic says the engine is okay.
Seems you were sold a car with a bad engine, previous owner must have mixed a lot of oil treatment to hide the smoking engine. If I'm correct your "new" engine oil will blacken quickly. You can try a different oil incase I'm wrong.
oNj: Car: 2009 Corolla; automatic City: Abuja Issue: All out system failure. Was drivin home few days ago on top speed (140 to 160) then suddenly my 2009 corolla seemed to 'shutdwn', wit d followin comin on immediately: 1. Check Engine light 2. Check power steering 3. Speedometer went flat to zero 4. Mileage also stopped reading 5. Acceleration became an issue and the car just didn't feel like before at all. To put it lightly, I panicked! Parked and restarted the car, stil the same. Managed it home all the same. Because I needed to go somewhere in the evenin, I still drove d car out . But I further observed that the gear lever which was always warm without AC, felt completely cold. Of course d gear selection wasn't as before. After a little googling I loosed d front tires to see if any sensor was out of place. Lo and behold, the right abs sensor was just dangling. Fixed it back, disconnected the battery heads for some minutes and everything started working, except the speedometer. Took it out for test-driving and on my way, the speedometer started reading too. Till today, everything is still working. Jst amazing such a 'little fault' could throw the car off-balance.
@ the bolded part, if it was a minor transsmission problem, you would have caused more damage and probably had to replace the transmission. Please buy a car scanner so you stop taking unnessesary risks with you car.
Meanwhile, abs sensors do not come off on their own, hope kazeem has not visited you?
abatically: And who will sell a brand new 2014 Hyundai accent to u for 1.4 million?
Op answer as I spread my mat here.
Experience4u: Please this will be my first car to buy. Am kind of. In challenge to make a choice. I have 1.4million to spend on a car but I don't know which one to go for. My bias lies on fuel efficiency., affordable spare parts and more of in city driving. Please your genuine suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks
Ehimax: Am in need of a vehicle I've searched for an affordable car, I eventually saw a neat Vboot one door going for 150k. the engine and body is in perfect condition. I knw little about cars so I need your advice
is Vboot a good choice? considering cost of maintaining and fueling the vehicle I also intend to travel a lot with the vehicle if I eventually buy it. how tough is the vehicle on the rough Nigerian road ?
If you have not paid for it, please don't. Save more money and get a japanes car, they are easy to maintain and have better resale value.
nurey: The recommended ATF for that sienna is dextron iii that's what is written on my own dip stick. Now if you park on a sloppy ground and you are reversing there is always this sound when you move ur gear from P to R but u shouldn't experience jerking or vibration and there is this loud thud sound first time you move in reverse when parked on a sloppy road.
The thud you hear is because you did not apply the parking brakes before setting lever to park position. Stop-neutral-parkingbrakes-parkposition. No thud.
OP there's nothing wrong with your gear. Problem is with your knock sensors. Scan vehicle, I'm sure bank 1 and 2 are either not connected or bad scan your car.
obicentlis: I recently worked on my Toyota Siena 1999 model. I replaced the top and on the process I changed the gear oil. I used dextron 111, after about 500miles the car refused to select gear 4 & 5. I checked the oil, it has turned to black, I changed the oil again but it's still not selecting all the gears. I hardly overtake due to this issue. The experts here, please what should I do? Is it to change the gear or any other possible solutions? Please if you have had this experience, don't read and pass. Thnx.
motherlode: My fellow members of this forum, i hereby seek your help in finding a mechanical expert in repearing my dad's Citroen car even if i called it mine up there( title of post ) but seriously we are in need of an expert to do the job because from experience i believe road-side mechanics contribute to many problems associated with cars but in the case of CITROEN, experts in maintenance and repairs are scarce in Nigeria. The Citroen car which we used formally was butchered by the (condemn iron) they pay less! *sad* it was butchered simply because we couldn't get a competent mechanic after our personal mechanic left Lagos to occupy the position of a chief priest in his village funny but i don't want this second one to be butchered. Please!!!
What's type of citron? What year, engine type, transmission etc. Then what's wrong with it?
Cvesta: 2000 model automatic,v6 engine... the belt that connects the alternator...sounds is very loud.. stop after 80metres to 200M of driving
For a 1mz engine you have a combination of 2 belts, 1(small belt) to drive the power steering pump, the other to drive the alternator and a/c compressor, there are not pulleys in between. The noise you are getting is from 1 or both belts (slack), have them adjusted or replaced. Its a very easy 10min job.
Cvesta: my camry kips making one loud annoying sound especially very early in the morning or when it has been left idle,SOUND stops only minutes after engine starts running or say 200metre plus...i change timing belt that had flattened and sound stopped for a few days...but with every passing day it coming back and gradually increasing its duration...sound equally creeps up a little when i decelerate esp when am moving pretty slow
Camry with a timing belt, what model? What type of engine? V6/I4?
pboy2buzy: Please I need help urgently......my car(toyota 4runner jeep) sank just now, nd in d process of using auxillary to unsink it, the car went off. The problem now is ,when I start the car it comes on and goes off again,if I keep starting it keeps coming on nd goin off......please some1 shud help me...wht shud I do?
Water entered where it shouldn't have entered, it might dry up and "fix its self" or if you have a cel you could scan. But if your vehicle went really deep in water you should consider these wise words from the poster above
sultaan: it will be safe to manually turn your engine over first before you crank it up to drain it out and not hydro lock your engine basically water can't compress like sprayed gasoline so things bend .
4. Jos International Stadium City: Jos Capacity: 44,000 Turf: Artificial Roof: Fully Covered Note: The stadium will be completed in december 2014 as said by the state commisioner of sport
gmyguy: factory recommends 5w20, but only oil available here is 20w50...where can i get 5w20??
Too late, when you get a new engine, or fix ur current engine then u can go synthetic. Search car talk, there's a thread dedicated to synthetic oil by chiebube.
