Your car is worth about 300k (assuming) you want to spend 80k on it( I assume the engine is 50k+labour+accessories + other expenses= 80-90k)

So you spend 80k(and my go up to 100K if you decide to fix the steering) on a 300k car that's 1/3 of the value of the car .

But if you sell the car and add the 100k(repair cost) + find like 50k more you can get a better looking car at 450k.
450k wouldn't get you the best car but this time shine your eyes. do enough research before you make a move.

You can't be sure of the new engine because most cars of that model in the junk yard are over 200k miles. The chances of getting a good engine from the junk yard is low. My personal opinion would be keep your eye on the oil as you save for a newer car, let someone else deal with the fixing burden. Since you car is not smoking you would find a buyer.

And they were beefing me when I said buy new engine.

Those leaks are not enough to cause a significant drop in oil level.

OK let's critically examine this case. Topic of thread is: MY car is consuming engine oil and there is no smoke from the exhaust.

Meaning engine is burning oil or leaking oil. Now if engine is leaking oil I woud say replace seals, fix leaks with suitable materials. But the Op goes on to add

I'm assuming flogs mean spark plugs, and from this statement you know that for sure engine is really burning oil. It could be his rings, it could be a cracked cylinder head,valve stem seals or a bad head gasket. I doubt the valve stem seals would cause the spark plugs to be soaked in oil, and the engine in quote was

Another observation this morning. I noticed oil leaks where I usually Park the car...

So let's sum it up, he bought a new engine, that soaks plugs, leaks engine oil from the engine. What would you advice bare in mind cost of that engine is about (40-45k)?

Thanks for the explanation. Actually by the time I got the car, the catalyst was already damaged so it had to be removed and I've been driving it without a catalyst. The following lights are on when the car is running:

1. ABS
2. AWD
3. SLIP
4. Check Engine
5. VDC
6. Airbag light blinking

I hope this will help you give me a better explanation.

C1103 - FR RH SENSOR - 1

C1107 - FR RH SENSOR - 2

These two errors are for abs sensors on your wheels, they are either faulty or their harness is disconected. Front right wheel. (I'm supprised there are 2 sensors in 1 wheel)

C1143 Nissan - Steering Angle Sensor Circuit https://www.nissanpartszone.com/part-images/partsbydesc/nissan-steering-angle-sensor.jpg this sensor is located behind the steering wheel the code C1143 is detected when the Neutral position of steering angle sensor is dislocated, or steering angle sensor is malfunctioning.
The sensor detects the rotation amount, angular velocity and direction of the steering wheel.

P1111 intake valve timing circuit
This could be caused by Faulty Intake Valve Timing Control Solenoid Valve Bank 1
Intake Valve Timing Control Solenoid Valve Bank 1 harness is open or shorted
Intake Valve Timing Control Solenoid Valve Bank 1 circuit poor electrical connection.

Note.Since the Intake valve timing control solenoid valve uses oil flow to control timing, dirty oil can cause the valve to get stuck open or close. Before replacing the valve, change engine oil and filter and reset engine code.

Back to the topic, cassie has a lot of potential and should come out looking stunning after a lot of work, you mentioned something about re-building the engine if there was no compression, do you use generic parts for the re-build? Or are there still OEM parts available in the market for the rebuild?

Last time I was in lagos, I was with several niralanders that wanted to buy vehicles,(used vehicles) and out of the 3 we inspected all three had rattling engine noises that would only be detcted by a trained ear the vechicles we inspected were spotless on the inside and out side, and had no CEL lit up. I will advice you PRAY hard, and look for an EXPERIENCED technician that would inspect the vehicle for you, also if it is a very modern car, going along with a diagnostic technician is also on point. Don't focus on just the engine, make sure you drive the car, ensure the transmission is not faulty, don't be greedy, buy fuel into the car (most cars for sale are always on empty) and run a proper test before paying for it.

ALSO, My car consumes fuel alot. When I checked online, the average MPG for a 2004 Nissan Murano SE AWD is 18/23 mpg (City / Highway). But my trip computer shows that my car runs on 8.8MPG Which is almost twice the consumption of a 2014 Bentley GTC (15/24 mpg). I thought it was misreading so each time I go to the petrol station, I clear my trip computer and calculate how many miles I drive until my tank goes empty and that is exactly what I get. So please I want you all to proffer the best solutions to my problems as I don't want to spend excess money taking the car to a NISSAN dealership. I have access to a good diagnostic center/Mechanic here but I want to first understand my problem and explore all possible solutions.

This morning, I was doing my regular oil, water and coolant check and when I turned on the car to idle for some minutes, I noticed the odometer needle rising up to 30MPH while the car was running idle and the gear was in Park (P). I'm really confused right now and don't know what next to do.

I hope someone has a solution to my "truckload" of problems LOL.

In the future it would be nice to explain all the problems you are facing with your vehicle, including all the warning signals you have on your instrument cluster so we can decipher which is a pending/stored error and which is permanent. When technicians work on your vehicle and remove sockets of sensors when the ignition is turned on or when engine is running, the ecm (brainbox) registers an error which is stored. When the sensor sockets are re-cliped or put back the sensors function might be restored but the error does not go away until cleared using diagnostic equipment. That said I will dwell on just 2 of the codes until you respond.

The problem with your excessive fuel consumption is centred around the P1031 - A/F SEN1 HTR(B1),it is a type of oxygen sensor and the harness is either faulty or the part is now defective. Have it replaced before it kills your catalytic converter.

The p0550 is a code specific to nissan, and it refers to Power Steering Pressure Sensor Circuit Malfunction, check harness and check sensor.

A rattle at the top(head) is a minor fix, from the bottom (crank shaft/con-rod) just get a new engine. Most of these problems are fixable, but the ability to find original parts and the expertise to install these parts is a little scarce in nigeria, that's why I always go for the buy a new engine line.

Me I don't even patronize the malams in my estate to wash my car for me, the colour is so perfect unless you touch the car u notice it is dirty (very light green) so I kinda wash thrice a week and I always wash my car myself.

The major reason this might fail in Naija could be due to the fact that we are always in a hurry to get to everywhere so no time to check time to go and drive through the Automatic car wash.

Which naija man will wake up very early, ignore the Abo-kis that will already wash his car before 7am and waste his precious time to go and do auto wash then come back home and get ready for work. Except you will chauffeur the car urself at their convenient time and take it to the robot washer. Lol

@the bolded the drive thru is a 5minute wash, and dry, faster than the abokii grin

are you saying because th radiator is a closed system, water is not lost thru conduction or convection or evaporation? some way, water still escapes and not necessarily due to leakages.. imsaying, whats bad if yo check your radiator at regular intervals and add water if need be?

does water cost you anythin?

do you buy water.. gotdanm t, if there is space, add, if there is no space, do play play and still just besure,, are you paying for the water ne?

my guy, go check up, proper maintainanceof any machine in general....

cars, motorcycle, tractors, trailers. boats, aircraft.. name it

One of your problems is the use of water instead of coolant.

Evaporation, convection conduction.......... Cars are not designed to lose coolant unless there's a leak, stop arguing get it fixed.

Now let's assume you fill up 1 cup every morning, and as a very busy person you have to go from ikorodu, to ikoyi, back to aggege and from there to ikeja, from there to alabar international and then back to ikorodu (assuming you are that busy) that is less than 500km journey. Now let's say you decide to go on a proper long trip, lagos to yola non-stop 1450km you would have lost 3cups of water or more!!! Stop the argument and fix your leak.
