1994 Toyota Pickup truck has rust on the frame near the back of the cab on both passenger and drivers side. There is a repair on the passenger outer side of the frame, but the inside is now rotting, and there is about 1inch diameter hole where it has rusted through. Is this something that a body shop could repair? Also, I know about the "campaign" to replace or repair 95-00 tacomas because of the frame rot, and called the dealer today. They didnt mention anything about me having to pay for a repair if the truck frame is rusted. I dont know if they are including 1994 pickups in this campaign. Anyone who can help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much.

The next time you lose your keys or bomb a test, try blaming it on a virus. Researchers from Johns Hopkins University and the University of Nebraska have discovered a virus that makes you just a little bit dumber.

The scientists stumbled upon the previously unknown "stupidity virus" in the throat cultures of healthy subjects during a completely unrelated experiment. The 44 percent of people who tested positive for the virus performed 7 to 9 points lower on IQ tests that measured attention span and how fast and accurately people process visual information.
When the Nebraska researchers injected the virus into the digestive systems of mice, same thing. The rodents blundered around mazes, appeared flummoxed by new toys and seemed oblivious to new entry ways in and out of their cages. In short, they acted a tiny bit stupider than the average mouse.

“This is a striking example showing that the ‘innocuous’ microorganisms we carry can affect behavior and cognition,” said lead investigator Dr. Robert Yolken, a virologist and pediatric infectious disease specialist at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore who led the study.

Yolken said this unintended study provides a good example of how behavior and psychology come down to more than the genes you inherit from your parents. Some of these traits may be shaped and influenced by the trillions of viruses, bacteria and fungi that colonize our bodies, he said.

Viruses are infectious agents that invade cells and replicate themselves within those cells, said Dr. Aaron E. Glatt, a spokesman for the Infectious Disease Society of America. Once they enter a host, they range from completely benign or, as is the case of the Ebola virus, they can be deadly.

Glatt said while he is skeptical of a virus can actually affect intelligence, he is keeping an open mind.

“We don’t completely understand the full implications of viruses yet but they, obviously, can impact the functioning of cells and entire organism with a myriad of outcomes,” he said.

Yolken said this particular virus may work by changing the way genes are expressed in an area of the brain responsible for memory and other higher brain functions. He also said he has suspected for some time that viruses have ways of messing with human intelligence.

In previous studies, for example, his team found small but definite decreases in cognitive function after exposure to the common herpes simplex virus.

The new research appears in the latest issue of the online journal, Proceedings of the National Academy of Science.

Brand new kini?? I bought it tokunbo at 178098 miles which checks out with the VIN report. The current mileage is 189650 miles. I changed the oil when I acquired the car a year ago. So my question goes thus: should I change the oil now or at what interval should d oil be changed?

Oga Gazzuzz, I hv an issue wit my BreakLight on. It all started about 3weeks ago. It came on, I know it indicated brake fluid going down coz d brake pad is worn. I hweva kip driving d car with d intension of getting good money to buy original brake pad unlike d one worned-out just after 4months in use.
Hweva, I had cause to travel out of town, leaving d car in care of my cousin. He, after finding out that d brake pad is worn, changed it.
The challenge now is that I'm not feeling d sharpness of d brake and d light (brake light) is still ON.
Is it that d pad is fake or d 'resurface' work done b4 putting d pad has damaged d brake discs bcoz it used to b sharper even wit worn-out pads.
Pls help

Thanks for your prompt response. But changing the gear oil @ 80k-100k miles is like 10yrs to me cos I don't travel with my cars. For instance, I only covered 11k miles within a period of 12months. So should I still wait till 80k miles before the change?

@gazuzz. I want to know when is the appropriate time to change transmission fluid. I have used the car for a year now and covered around 11000 miles.

The coolant reservoir in my Toyota Camry 2000 V6 has been empty for some months and I have been a little bit skeptical about re-filling it cos a mechanic said he will have to remove d entire radiator which I think its not a must. I already bought 2 gallons of coolant and I intend to change it this weekend. Please advise the most necessary precautions to take while changing d coolant. Do i need to flush the radiator with clean water before filling it with the new coolant? See attached pics. Thanks a lot.

Hi guys. Got my car serviced recently but after a few days, the check engine and VSC indicator lights came on whilst driving. Used my OBD scanner to read the code and P606 ECM/PCM fault code came up. The car still drives ok but I know better to fix issues promptly before it gets worse. Does anyone know where I can get an ECM/PCM replacement.

The only "tampering" the car recently endured was when a roadside rewire messed with the fuse box and we ended up reinserting wrong capacity fuses in the various compartments.

Any useful advise/suggestion will be appreciated. Thanks

OMG! I'm sorry, for not sympathising with you. PELE, boss.I guess I was carried away by my own issue. No vex abeg. Just that I fear any issues with my car because I'm in an island where the mechanics here know next to nothing.

I have this issues with my 2007 Honda accord,automtic:

1.When moving slowly (at about 20km /hr) and try to acceralate, or try accelerating after a brief stop,the pedal does not respond(becomes stiff), the tachometer remains at zero,then it picks up after about 3-5 seconds. It happens intermittently.

2.Sometimes I can't start the car when the gear is in the park position, until I put it in neutral. It's becoming too frequent now.

Please what is wrong and how do I resolve the issues?

Gentlemen, I need some recommendations on good hands that can troubleshoot these codes for me - P0420 and P0430. This has to do with one or more of the following:

Exhaust leakage
Catalyst failure
Air/fuel sensor
Hot oxygen sensor
Gas tank cap leakage

It is a Toyota 2GR-FE Engine so, I need a proper diagnosis to avoid throwing parts at it randomly. Many functions of the small SUV have been shut down because this code illuminated the MIL light. (It is a 2007 Rav4). Total service station confirmed that the exhaust system has no leakage, but when their tech leader included the injectors as possible culprit, I had to leave there.

I saw an advert by ARS here on Nairaland claiming to offer professional repair services. Anybody knows about them?

Hi guys.
So here's the story, the timing belt of my car recently cut while I was driving and that cost me some buk, my mechanic said all the valves were broken and I had to change the top of the engine. Which he charged me 40k.
Two days later the engine knock, engine oil was alright, everything one could think of fine. He gave me this rooster n bull story about the radiator leak, if that was the case surely I would have seen it on the temperature guage.

Anyways now I have to buy a new engine and he says it cost 100k. Please nairalanders is this the cost and how do I know a good engine. Thanks.
