tolusan: Dear Gazzuzz
Thank you for sustaining this thread and giving us timely information all the time. I have a small issue. I drive a Toyota Camry 2003 , at some point I had to change the dipstick for the engine oil compartment, I feel the current dipstick is longer than normal and I do not get accurate oil level reading (so for instance, I feel that now that I'm getting a oil level reading just below the lower end of the stick, I think if i use a normal dipstick, it would be normal). Is there a way to determine the recommended dipstick size? Thank you. what engine type? 2az-fe or 1mz-fe?
2az-fe
dipstick N2,000, engine N300,000k
smart thing to do is to replace dipstick with the right one.
Nigerian thing to do is to drain oil, pour 4.2liters and recalibrate current dipstick. 4.2liters will set oil slightly above normal high marker.
1MZ-FE dipstick N2,000, engine N220,000k
smart thing to do is to replace dipstick with the right one.
Nigerian thing to do is to drain oil, pour 4.7liters and recalibrate current dipstick. 4.7liters will set oil slightly above normal high marker.

EgunMogaji: Bore out of spec = +10, 20, 30, 40 thou pistons ??
I did a +80 once on a Mini Cooper. Went from 1275cc to 1380.
The failure was later catastrophic During your time, Machinists used to be very precise in their jobs, I once took a 1998 corrola with a 1.2liter engine for a re-bore, when the guy was done, I installed new pistons and connecting rods, bearings seals, the whole package, and I assumed a new lease of life. Engine was brought back in 1 week smoking
I took every thing apart and did not find any thing out of place. I decided to work backwards....
I measured the bores top to bottom... the top was within spec, the bores at the lower ends were wider in 2 cylinders
I had to buy toks engine to pacify the client.
Now imagine if it was weyreypey |

EgunMogaji: Now we’re making progress.
So we have a machine shop, we also have an aluminum welder.
It’s good. We have always had them, use them when it's not life threatening, but when bores are out of spec, and top area was rattling before it was parked you just give up on the engine. |

EgunMogaji: The last major work I did was on my MR2.
It developed a water leak in the cylinder head near a spark plug hole. It was completely drivable but when water had an opportunity to pool in their then it will cause a misfire which will go away as soon as the water evaporated.
Anyways, instead of swapping the engine, I simply removed the head and exchanged it at a machine shop or online (I forgot) and reinstalled it.
So guys, if the same thing happened in Nigeria, would you swap engines or just change the head?
PS: The engine had 285,000 miles on it and was sold at over 300,000 miles. This engine nah ancestor, it will get an aluminum weld in the machine shop and go back to business |

EgunMogaji: We do replace engines here too and there are many companies bringing in used engines from Japan especially.
Most of the times, the engines that I have replaced have been to get a better JDM or GDM engine that has more power.
Is replacing an engine cheaper and faster> Of course but the customer needs to be given a chance to make a decision.
What I see here is a "we only replace engine" mantra.
This is not good for customer service. We only have happy customers is also good too. |

radautoworks: He agrees for him as the mechanic replacing is easier.. but no warranty! Man, we have stories of replacements that were hell because the engines had to go back two or three times and the seller (big used engine distributor too) didn't want to refund. 3 months to get money back o! In the meantime we had to deal with frustrated customer. At least there you can send engine back within a certain number of days under certain conditions. I think it was 10? Contact me in the future I have an eye for such things, my track record in 2years has been fantastic we no need ASE certification for that matter |

Khaytunechi: Good evening senior men. Please I got blocked on Uber this morning,, went to their center to complain and I was told my phone (HTC E8) isn't part of the listed phones for their service,, thereOubenji need to change my phone because they're suspecting illegal activities bla bla..
I have only been on the platform for less than two weeks and God forbid I do anything illegal just for quids..
Please has anyone had this issue before or is anyone currently having the same issue?? How do I handle this?? I've been unblocked but I fear to put my app on as I don't want to get banned permanently..
Bosses please,, what do I do??
Cc: Gazzu.zz TheCar eherbal Tgiirl Gentlelife50 Oubenji and other experts I spend an average of 8k every day on uber, 90per of the drivers are on a lokito/wavy diet, uber refunds me in within 48hrs what ever excess the driver thought he made, some have bad phones, some turn of their GPs while on a trip. What ever the case, me I no send, I review, and if I don't like the driver, I report plus jara 1 star.
I am 100percent certain this is one of such cases.
You have a bad phone replace it. |

Car Talk › Re: To Rebuild Or To Replace? by GAZZUZZ(op): 5:05pm On Aug 08, 2018 |
radautoworks: You really didn't leave us much to say here. Most of the time, the damaged parts are few and cheap and may come down to just gaskets, rods or a head that needs machining. We have all the boxes checked and will almost always rebuild rather than replace. It is nearly always cheaper and comes with a warranty (especially in this country with cheap labor). We gave an example in our little rant about rebuilding https://www.nairaland.com/4501821/milex-carquest-2nd-largest-usa/18#69784777
When it's not better for the customer to rebuild, we recommend replacement.
Gazzuzz, would you confidently give a customer a 6 month to 1 year warranty on that beauty? I'm guessing no because you never really know the story behind that replacement. We have the machine to make any engine look prettier than that one in 45minutes and internally it's a piece of crap. It's the same machine used to clean up all the parts when we rebuild. One year if you service with us at scheduled intervals. Will do it and sleep well at night. |

Now I have seen Fuelpumps for vehicle Bought brand new in nigeria, used for about 2years and less then 30,000kms in this state.
these are the remains of cannibalised used foreign used fuel pumps from different vehicles, Notice their colours?

Fuelpump used in saner climates for 10-20years coming in and looking this good without any human interference.
summary, If you like buy a brand new car or a Foreign used car, as long as you live in nigeria and our system continues to buy horribly refined petroleum products, just set aside a little extra money for a fuel pump every few years.
I would love to see more responses:
