Car Talk › Re: My Experience Trying To Scan A Hyundai Accent by GAZZUZZ(m): 5:17pm On Feb 13, 2016
Piyke:
So I was at my mechanic quite recently and he asked me to help him scan one 2010 Accent which was having an occasional vibration at idle. The Car would also hesitate sometimes when the throttle is called upon.

Well, the car had no CEL and since I had confirmed the CEL bulb wasn't removed, I decided to run livedata to take a look at fuel trims and at least try to rule out fuel supply issues, vacuum leak etc.

Fastfoward. I hook up my scanner, run a manufacturer level scan as expected no codes. I then proceeded to take a look at STFT and LTFT but the car remained in Open loop. I just started the car, so I felt it's still warming up but alas it remained so after 5-10mins. This was odd to me as my Accord would hit closed loop at the blink of an eye after startup.

I then decided we should take it for a spin to help it "heat up" . Holding the scanner while the mechanic drove, it still refused to come out of open loop. We drove maybe almost about a km, but I was on a schedule and had to move on.

Bottom line I didn't read the fuel trims.

This was quite surprising to me, but my plausible explanation is that the car probably does not use heated O2 sensors thus requiring a long warm up time before the the O2 sensors become active and then provide the data for the car to enter closed loop.

Any thoughts?
kia, hyundai from Korea up to 2010 (what iv noticed) do not come with O2 sensors Just a simulation. Funny thing is they have great fuel economy. Another crapy thing is the check light is very useless, you can unhook a major electrical part and it will not turn on the check light. Strange manufacturer.

On Saturday I called her to inform her that I was coming back for the treatment. I got there while she was about to leave for choir practice in the church. But while the massage was going on, I had an urge, so I had carnal knowledge of the girl. I have successfully raped her three times.

“It was the fourth time that she locked the gates against me
did any one read this part?
The man is an idiot yes, but what happened the first, 2nd and third time? Why wait for the fourth attempt?

Car Talk › Re: Peugeot 406 Restoration [suggestions Needed] by GAZZUZZ(m): 12:37pm On Feb 13, 2016
Emrich:
@mjbaba, king406 and ruby360 I totally understand your points but if there's any chance that this car could still function well I will like to explore it.
I still plan to buy either v6 406 or 607 but that will likely be early next year.

For now, however, this particular 406 moves, I believe it's just wrong wiring and connections that make it suffer constant breakdown and instead of selling it off to someone that will probably kill it, I want to try, to redo the connections. If after this it still fails then it will have to go. But I don't see why a car that has its mechanics restored to factory default should not function like new.

Plus redoing connections, using the right fluids, and proper maintenance servicing can't possibly be as costly as buying another one.
leave that for the new owner.
Before you embark on a major project on a car, do this small eveluation.

1. Cost of car in present state.
2. Cost of car after repairs
3. Cost of a Nigerian used equivalent
4. Cost of Toks
5. Cost of the repairs.

You talked about a paint job, some panelbeaing, wiring, and fluids.

Paint job would cost between 65-70k
Panel beating or properly done a new bonnet+panelbeating 10k for bonnet (old dollar price) panelbeating 5-10k

Wiring: that's a world on its own, cannot give you a price for that. You might need a new harness if it is really bad. Also need to scan after you are done to see what other accessories require replacement.

wat could be the problem
my corolla sports 04 makes sounds similar to a race car when I zoom at 60km
I noticed the noise is worse in the morning and when I have not serviced it, I usually service it at average of 1500km...but wn I move at below 40km u hardly know a car is coming or wn I decelerate without pressing acceleration
the car is 14 months old and I noticed it wn it was bought from cotonou but not as worst as it makes now

What kind of noise? Engine rattle? Why do you have to service on very short intervals? I can't help you here unless I can here the noise. If in lagos, bring it to my workshop for a free diagnosis.

I feel this is the conclusion of the matter. Nextrend should collect this car since he erroneously did not inspect the car himself or send a 3rd party to confirm the state of the car. You cannot trust the judgment of an online car dealer to inspect the car, pay and deliver. That can only happen in heaven. I am not sure Nextrend will win this case if he goes to court. Though its a costly mistake, buyer should take the car, sell it. At most he will lose like N250,000. I have lost such an amount by buying a lemon about 9 years ago, i moved on. I have recovered fully. Ignorance is not an excuse for your error Nextrend though i feel your pain. Period!!!
I do not agree with you. I do business with nairalanders, every day, we are held to a higher standard of trust your yes should be yes and your no should no should be no. If you can't supply what you advertise then you are a fraud. There should be a full refund business is not always about profit, there are days you will incur loss to save face.

I was actually inspired to do this after watching and reading your thread "Remotely Follow Your Vehicle Repairs Online" and quite frankly I will prefer a v6 variant of the car. So selling seems like the better option; but if I were to pursue this plan, could you give me an estimate for it? Thank you.
Upload pics of the car, include pics of the engine bay and areas that need work.

Gazz man. Thanks for your help on this thread.
I drive an 03 corolla. I got it in January last year. It was naija used earlier. I believe the previous owner got it in January 2012. I do not know the service history but I think it was not serviced previously with 5w 30 motor oil.
Since I got it I have serviced trice with 5w 30 motor oil. I serviced last august last year. I do not drive much maybe around 2000km since last service date. But when I checked the oil level this morning though the oil is still relatively OK but due for service I notice the oil has gone down. The level is close to quarter above the first hole on the dip stick. When I serviced last it was almost close to the second hole in level on the dip stick.
My neighbors say my engine may be getting weak. So I ask should I still continue with my 5w30 engine oil or use another heavier engine oil for the next service. And what could be the possible cause of the issue and likely remedies to the shortage of oil.
Hope you can understand my issue.
what was the brand name of the 5W30 you used initially

ur point is very valid. but right now, we both are not sure of the exact cause of this in d yaris.
the point is that it could happen to any car really, due to bad part, negligence, mistake, a loose bolt and what not..

the other point is dat it doesn't happen to honda mostly because honda makes bad cars/suspension system, but because of the rampant honda fake parts. or do u have a different theory as to why it happens mostly with honda cars?
I have a different theory for the honda. It has 2ball joints, one on the upper control arm and one on the lower control arm, chances of failure are higher in this setup. The toyota has just 1 ball join on each side for support of the wheel.

try mobil 0w-40. If it still burns, try SEPSA 20W50 (mineral oil)

all said n done. MAINTENANCE is key. gazzuzz ,ur theory sounds reasonable, but then why is d ball joint of a 2015 yaris being changed already?

this thing cn happen to any car. ive seen it happen live to a 4runner, and it seems to only occur at low speeds. seen it on a benz too, and a nissan.

it is more rampant with honda bcoz there re more honda fake parts out there. its nt bcoz honda cars have the defect.

now, regardless of watever car u drive, ensure u maintain it properly, and only change with genuine parts. nd dis will never happen! its truly not a honda problem. dose dt have ears and wisdom will hear and learn frm dis.
I take cars apart every day, it takes over 100,000km for a Yaris ball joint to fail, if that car was bought in 2014 I don't think it would have covered 60,000km in febuary 2016. This case is pure negligence by a mechanic, but if I could zoom in closer to the dislocation, I would know for sure.

To the OP, go to Alhaji amusa street, isolo, you'll see Volvo parts till you run for your life, and also very cheap and affordable too, anything you need, don't mind this man saying you'll cry when looking for parts

next time you want to buy an engine, tell the spare part dealer to engrave your old engine details on the new one. not applicable to all engines, if your engine number is in a position that makes it unreadable unless when dropped e.g (infinity Qx4 and pathfinder they have the engine number located near the flywheel between the engine and gearbox.) then there's no point writing a report or an affidavit
