Ngodigha:The thread was not intended to disparage Ekiti state, having hailed from the South west myself.Amazingly, some saw this as an opportunity to put the state down. For crying out loud, she is just unlucky to receive one of the lowest statutory allocation, which depends on the population, land mass etc, from Abuja. rave2u:I think the embassy usually have the results before they are officially released. If at the time of her B2 interview ,the embassy discovers she has been selected for a Dv visa, they might ask her not to bother about the B2 visa and wait for the release of the lottery results .Apparently, your sister intends to immigrate to the US.And,the consular wouldnt want to grant a NIV visa to someone who intends to immigrate to the US .If she emerges as a selectee in the lottery, there would be no need for a tourist visa again. In fact, one of the criteria for granting Tourist visa is that the applicant has to prove his non-immigrant intent. |

Wont GPD and HDI be a better way of determining if a state is poor? What does total allocation have to do with Being poor? Even Allocation per capital would have been a better statistical way of measuring if in which Ekiti comes in 12th. But you have to realize that more than half of the state in nigeria are failures, With out government allocations they will fail. Thats because Nigeria has to many POINTLESS STATES and these idiots want to create more banana republic states in which they will need government allocation to survive. In reality a small country(size) like nigeria should only have 12-15 states that could generate revenue by themselves. Ekiti is one of these pointless states, thats why the commissioner said its poor, Because its main source of revenue is from allocations. http://www.sparc-nigeria.com/Uploads/State_GDP.JPG

you are right. Many states were created because locals wanted bragging rights.Viability was not a factor. Some are still agitating for the creation of more states, hoping their current city would become the capital. And of course, more senatorial zones and federal constituencies would emerge, meaning more job for the "boys". I did not create this thread to disparage Ekiti state, although the report appears sensational. as not a factor. Some are still agitating for the creation of more states, hoping their current city would become the capital. And of course, more senatorial zones and federal constituencies would emerge, meaning more job for the "boys".
