By Saharareporters, New York

Economic and Financial Commission have finally arrested outgoing Speaker Dimeji Bankole of the house of representatives.

An EFCC source told Saharareporters moments ago that the agency operatives moved in today to arrest Mr. Bankole after the agency received intelligence was planning to flee tonight.

For the past one week, the EFCC and Bankole have been engaged in a tense stand off arising from Mr. Bankole's refusal to answer the agency's summons for interrogation over series of corruption allegations.

Saharareporters exclusively broke the news that the EFCC investigators had linked Mr Speaker to an account at the United Banker of Africa (UBA) through which the outgoing speaker had laundered about $1 billion.

A source at the EFCC told SaharaReporters that agency was able to arrest the speaker today as soon as it discovered he had planned to escape from Nigeria early tomorrow morning.

Last Friday EFCC agents had made an attempt to arrest the speaker from his residence but that had been rebuffed by Mr. Bankole's security protection.

The EFCC had appealed to IG to withdraw Bankole's police security to facilitate the outgoing speakers arrest instead Mr. Ringim arrived at the scene to break the siege, stating that president Goddluck Jonathan had ordered the the EFCC should retreat from arresting Bankole.

A police source said Mr. Ringim came under fire following our report of his role. He later lied that he only paid the speaker a social visit at his residence, unaware of plans to by the EFCC to arrest him.

In response to criticism, the IG of police then ordered the withdrawal of Bankole's police protection.

A source within the presidency said Jonathan who is due to be received this Wednesday at the White House did not want a baggage of appearing to American officials to be continuing the tradition of protecting Nigeria's major corrupt officials.

The source said that Jonathan then instructed the IG of police and the DG of the state security service to immediately withdraw Bankole's security detail.

A source at the EFCC told us the the EFCC was able to arrest him shortly after he lost his police guards.

In addition to the huge financial scam at the UBA, the former speaker is also implicated in car buying scandal.

Politics / Re: Alao-akala: Alaafin's Assassination Plot Allegation Laughable by gbolah1(m): 10:27pm On Jul 13, 2010
Alafin did not do anything that warrant deposition. Akala can not depose him.I think Akala is afraid of alafin because of the influence he has in oyo town.
Alafin supported Ajimobi ANPP Gubernatorial candidate in 2007 election, and ANPP win in oyo town. Alafin deed the same thing in 2003 when he supported Ladoja.
Alafin is an inflencial paramount ruler. i believe that is why akala is afraid of him

Politics / Re: Lastma & Police; Who Collects The Heaviest Bribe? by gbolah1(m): 11:44am On Feb 20, 2009
For me I still appreciate the work of LASTMA in Lagos state, if they are not in Lagos today, Lagos road will not have been motorable, everybody always in hurry to reach where ever he or she is going, including me, but with the fear of LASTMA, people get it to there head that you can not obstruct the traffic rule and go away with it easily,

If police arrest you for any traffic offence, immediately you gave them N100 they will leave you, especially if you now give them N500 you will become GOD, they will be the one to cleared the road for you, but LASTMA will never do that even if they are going to collect bribe from you they will first delay you, and if you don’t want them to embrace you then obey the traffic law. (I sea them as classic bribe collector)

My point is that, am not saying the way they are rubbing innocent citizen is right but I still appreciate there present in Lagos state, the center of excellence

@wokess
What are you insinuating about, are you saying Adenuga and fashola are not in good condition that is why they want to demolish it or what?

What you need to realized is that fashola is doing a greet job, am not aware of demolishing the whole filling station but I know the lekki epe expansion of the road affected the front of that filling station, and it is not only that filling station affected, it affected all the bulding along lekki epe road, so what are you now talking about, I don’t understand you, I leave in Thomas estate aja and I pass through that place everyday to my office, may be you can enlighten us on the issue better than the way you have put it.
