Foreign AffairsCrazy! Somalia Bans Christmas Celebrations by gbolakpine(op): 6:59pm On Dec 26, 2013
Only God knows what the world is turning to...

A directive released on Tuesday by the Ministry of Justice and Religious Affairs stated that no Christian festivities could be held in Somalia.

The Director General of the ministry, Sheikh Mohamed Khayrow Aden, and the Director of the Religious Matters, Sheikh Ali Sheikh Mohamud alias Sheikh Ali Dhere, held a press conference in the capital Mogadishu, to make the announcement.

The ban came just hours before Christmas Day, when Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, their spiritual saviour.

“We alert fellow Muslims in Somalia that some festivities to mark Christian Days will take place around the world in this week,” said Sheikh Ali Dhere during the press conference, adding: “It is prohibited to celebrate those days in this country.”

Mr Aden, on his part, stated that all security and law enforcement agencies had been instructed to counter any such celebrations.

He added that copies of the directive were delivered to hotels and other meeting places in Mogadishu.

The officials did not say anything on whether non-Muslim foreign workers or residents could celebrate or not.

It is the first time that a Somali government bans the celebrations since the last central government collapsed in 1991.

Though i don't like idea of preventing Christians from celebrating their saviour but since it's their territory, let them do whatever they like.

FashionGuys Will You Let Your Girl Wear This??? by gbolakpine(op): 12:54pm On Dec 24, 2013
I simply don't understand what the fashion industry is bringing into the society... Why on earth will a full grown woman decide to wear this kinda outfit outside her room just to kip the cash rolling in... The real question now is, will you as a guy let your girlfriend, fiance or better still your wife wear this in public?

Christianity EtcAngels Have No Wings, Says Catholic ‘angelologist’ by gbolakpine(op): 4:55pm On Dec 20, 2013
Different people with different thoughts... For all of you who thinks Angels fly with wings as aid, a catholic Angelologist has come out to boldly say that there is nothing like wings at the back of angels. Here is what he had to say...

Angels exist but do not have wings and are more like shards of light, the heavenly beings are now back in vogue thanks to New Age religions. “I think there is a re-discovery of angels in Christianity,” Father Renzo Lavatori told AFP on the sidelines of a conference on angels in a lavishly-frescoed Renaissance palace in Rome.

“You do not see angels so much as feel their presence,” said Lavatori, adding: “They are a bit like sunlight that refracts on you through a crystal vase.” The senior clergyman was taking part in a debate this week on angelic art by the Fondazione Archivio Storico, an Italian art foundation, and was held in the Vatican-owned Palazzo della Cancelleria.

Professor Valerio Massimo Manfredi, an art historian taking part in the conference, said the first mention of the word “angelos” came from the Mycenaean civilization in Greece more than 3,000 years ago. The word means “messenger” in ancient Greek. Monsignor Giovanni Tonucci, head of the Loreto Marian sanctuary, said that angels were “pure souls” whose lack of a defined form had allowed artists through the ages to let their creative imagination run wild.

“Following the cultural history of angels is following the history of humanity, or at least of our civilization,” the organisers said. “Angels have helped drive religious and philosophical thought and have given birth to sublime forms of poetic and artistic expression,” they said. Lavatori said the popularised image of angels is a necessary result of their being “back in fashion” but is dismissive of all the angel art around Christmas. “There is space for that, but you have to understand that these are not real representations.

Angels do not have wings or look like cherubs,” he said. The widely-published Catholic clergyman is also a “demonologist” and says angels are more needed than ever because increasing secularisation and materialism in society have left an “open door” for the devil. “There is a lot more interference from diabolical forces. That is why you see queues of people outside the exorcists’ offices in churches,” he said. “Pope Francis talks more about the devil than about angels and I think rightly so. But it’s still early, he will get round to the angels too.”

BusinessSecond Hand Clothes, shoes Record Sales Boom by gbolakpine(op): 6:51pm On Dec 17, 2013
Barely eight days to Christmas, dealers in second hand clothes and shoes in Jos have started making brisk business in sales.

A survey by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the various second hand clothes and shoes markets in the Jos metropolis revealed that the traders had been started recording higher patronage.

NAN reports that many women were now buying second hand clothes and shoes for their children and wards.

Some of the markets visited included Terminus, Miango Jnction and Katako that are known for various grades of second hand clothes and shoes.

Mr Ifeanyi Okoro, a dealer at Terminus Market, told NAN that he first noticed the increase in patronage in the first week of December.

“The high demand for the items I sell has made the business very lucrative since the first week of December.

“In fact, customers plead with me to call them whenever I want to open new bales of clothes so that they will be the first to pick the best,” he said.

Mr Evans Madubuike, a dealer at Miango Junction, said that he started enjoying a boom in sales towards the end of November.

“In the previous months when I travelled, I bought just one bale of shoes and bags for sale due to low demands, but things have changed since the first week of December.

“When I travelled in the first week in December, I got three bales of shoes and bags which I have almost exhausted,” he said.

Mr Tanko Bello, a dealer in Katako Market, said that he was recording higher turnover in the sale of second hand shirts and trousers lately due to the new season.

Mrs Josephine Chollom, a mother and civil servant at the Terminus Market, told NAN that she was buying second hand clothes because they were more durable than new ones. (NAN)

CultureFarmer Kills HUGE 15-foot Snake In Ekiti by gbolakpine(op): 2:15pm On Dec 06, 2013
The farmer with the name, Bayo Ibrahim, 23, killed the big snake around the Ado-Afao-Ekiti environs of the state. The snake was said to have been notorious for killing domestic animals in the area.
Spectators called it various names, including “Aminurin”, “Ojola” and “Ako Monomono”, which are all Yoruba names for a massive snake.
The size of the snake attracted spectators from as far as Odo-Ado, Oke-Ila, Basiri, Nova Road and GRA in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, to the sparsely-populated Afao road, turning it into a Mecca of sorts.
The spectators said: “We have never seen anything like this”; “Is this what we have been living with?” and “This is the wonder of the year in Ekiti”.
They pushed one another to catch a view of the snake, which some said was big enough to feed, at least 40 sturdy men.
Ibrahim, who hails from Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, said he saw three snakes while grazing his herd close to the road and killed them with a cutlass.
He said: “I am a cattle rearer. I saw three snakes in a small bush and killed them with my cutlass. I sold two yesterday for N10,000 each. I have also sold this last one for N10,000 to that man.
“I have killed about 12 of such snakes. They always kill our dogs and goats. But they have not killed any person. They do not kill by biting. They roll round their prey and suffocate it, until it dies. If you want to kill them, aim for the head and do not miss it, because if you do, it can be fatal. If you are scared, do not go near it, but if you are sharp and quick, you will kill it easily.”
Many spectators said it was strange to see such a long and thick snake.
Ajayi Adekunle said: “To me and most of us here, it is new. I have seen such snakes many times in movies, but never in real life. It will easily kill and swallow humans. You can see how big it is. Even a car cannot kill it. I urge people living in this area to be careful, as more of this snake may still be around here.”

RomanceQuestion Of The Day - Gay Marriage by gbolakpine(op): 12:55pm On Dec 04, 2013
Am sure you know very well that, in this part of the world, Nigeria, Gay marriage is not accepted and once discovered will result in the execution of the offenders...

Remember the bible also commands us to love our neighbour as we love ourselves. Knowing fully well that no one is above the law, the question is...

If you ever find out your friend, family member, proprietor or anyone close to you is gay, will you report him or will you keep it to yourself even when you've been wooed by him?

Wonders will never end. This is Ho Zhiliang a 24 year old Chinese Barber who has lived his entire life with his heart beating just below the skin of his abdomen! He was born with congenital cardiac exposure syndrome, a condition which is said to kill more than 90 per cent of patients at birth or shortly afterwards. To the surprise of many, he has miraculously survived the condition for 24 years till a doctor told his parents that his condition was rapidly deteriorating and that he required urgent surgery.
If you have been thinking God has not done anything that worth testimonies for you, think again because this i must confess is more than a reason to thank God for your own life. And i would like you OGRs (Ogbonge Gist Readers) to say a little prayer for this man. God help us all.
