MERCHANDISER: Yeah, Although I trust her but human being can change, that's my fear... I wouldn't want her to be sleeping around when I am not there. In that case, take her to where you are. It is obvious you are concerned about her and your relationship. You know her better than anyone else and if you are at peace dating her, I want to presume you will have same peace in marriage. It doesn't mean there wouldn't be challenges however, you both will overcome. |

MERCHANDISER: I have already informed her and she agreed to wait for me for 5years.
Within that 5years,I will be spending a month each year.. I plan to move back to Nigeria finally after 5years. Glad you informed her and both of you are okay with it as such, no deceit here. |

laivwire: Just because you don't know doesn't mean doctorates are free. You can pay for your PhD in all these countries you mentioned but that's if you can. If you truly know about these things, you won't be speaking this way.
What's the essence of carrying the whole family and kids when you are the only income source in a expensive country? To each his own anyway. Oga, as someone who schooled in both countries i used as examples and have a PhD, not one person I know ever paid for PhD by themselves. Except for those who get scholarships/fellowships, they aren't free because your stipend in most cases require you to do some work in return for either your professor or department. If you are smart enough to get into a PhD program, you sure will have funding. Most schools wouldn't admit you if you have to pay yourself for a PhD. What is the extra cost of carrying your family abroad? The difference in rent between a one and a two bedroom isn't much and ditto for a two and a three bedroom. What is the cost of feeding extra mouths? If you know, I'm sure you know it isn't much. Why then would you leave the joy and great support it gives because of the little extra cost? The opportunity cost of leaving them behind is way too much compared to that of taking them along. Like you said, to each his own. |

MERCHANDISER: She can work here as an English teacher, she is already teaching in primary school in Nigeria but I am scared because I don't know if she's going to change once she get here.
I plan to impregnate her in Nigeria and establish her but I am also scared that she may cheat on me.Although I plan to be coming back once in a month every year for 5years before I leave Europe.
I am just here to gather small money,i have long term plan in Nigeria after 5years Why not just let her be? Please don't marry her since you already have such plans or inform her ahead and let her make her choice. |

yemmit90: May God bless you.
No man will willingly leave his lovely family behind if he has the opportunity.
Those claiming they can't are mostly singles or are having bad relationships with their wives before the opportunity comes. Many are dysfunctional as they grew up in dysfunctional homes and had no role model of a good marriage. |

laivwire: US: Your spouse can't work. For all: Do you have the required pof?
PhDs are competitive because you literally have 1000 applications for 2 vacancies. Are you taking your spouse with you just because s/he can work? Your spouse can't work but can give you the emotional stability you need. For others, it requires planning and I don't think I know anyone who paid for his/ her doctoral studies. That said, one should consider to apply to programs where one has great chances of admission and funding. |

laivwire: How many countries today allow Masters students bring their spouses along? Except for UK which a lot of people exploited and which is shut down already.
Masters is the most popular student route to japa as PhDs are too competitive. Besides how many people have the resources to carry wife and children together as they travel for the first time.
Let's be realistic on this platform please. Canada and US also do. These are the ones I can talk about. What makes PhD so competitive? |

I don't have any friends or know anyone who has the right papers and left his wife back home. You could say my circle of influence is not much nonetheless, I know over 70 married Nigerian men who are here with their spouses.
Why would you want to leave your wife in Nigeria? Is she some piece of furniture or artefact meant for decorating your house? |
