Saintsammurai:Op your aim is noble but your method is not too good IMO. You can't try to enforce generosity. It should be of free will. An offering to God should not be pegged at any amount. It should be as the Spirit moves. The fact that you give a million should not make you think you're a better Christian than those who gave 1 naira. Can you remember when Jesus was with His disciples in the temple & people were giving alms? He told them the widow who gave 2 copper coins gave more than the people gave bags of gold. God isn't like man who judges based on quantity. |
Icon79:Please you don't have to insult me to pass across your point. I expressed my opinion without derogatory comments. It is my opinion & you have yours. Football isn't easy but to be really good or among the best, good enough sometimes doesn't cut it. These people are professionals. It's what they do for a living hence expecting the best from them isn't asking too much. They played a Cameroonian side with an FA in shambles. When we were facing similar problems in 2014 with the NFF, weren't we beaten by congo at home despite being african champions? As for your 95% prediction, i would only give the advice Ahab gave Ben-hadad in the bible "He that hasn't put on his armour should not talk as he who has taken it off". Nothing is certain in life not to talk of football. Until the final game ends, anything can happen. Can you remember 2014 world cup qualifiers when Cape Verde topped their table to clinch a playoff spot only to be disqualified because in 1 of their qualifying matches, they had 1 ineligible player in their squad? That's how unpredictable football can be. The much nationally savoured Nigeria- Brazil Atlanta 96 Olympics semifinals should serve as a warning against any form of complacency or early celebration. The draw in Yaoundé didn't topple us as group leaders but it did set us back a bit. A win would have made sure that a draw against zambia was all we needed to seal qualification. Now we must win zambia to seal qualification. A draw would mean that we have to wait until final match day to seal qualification. Please imagine if the match against zambia goes the way the match with south africa went (heavens forbid but it's a possibility after all, we have a better winning record against south africa than zambia). We would both be level on points with zambia with a goal difference of at most 4. It then goes down the wire to final matchday. Another slip up on our part & we could start hearing that zambia have qualified for their 1st world cup tournament. It is a possibility albeit unlikely but we must consider it & see how we can prevent it from happening instead of wishing it away. This is exactly the mentality we carry into every sphere of life in this country. Why did we enter a recession? Because we thought oil prices would never crash hence we kept spending recklessly thinking the money would always come as it always does. Why are we still relying solely on crude oil exports for revenue instead on diversifying the economy? Because we think the day when automobiles, machines etc would stop running on fossil fuels would ever come even when there are numerous pointers that say otherwise. |
goingape1:I assume you meant the chaplet that is used to pray the rosary? You know that it is used to avoid miscounting & also serves to reduce absentmindedness while reciting the rosary right? The power lies in the prayer not in the chaplet. Most catholics wear the chaplet because of proximity ie there is less tendency to lose it when its around your neck. Others do it as a Mark of identity (to proclaim openly that one is a catholic & not ashamed). Did you ever meditate on the rosary when you prayed it? I don't think so. If you had, you would know that it is a beautiful, divinely inspired prayer. From the first line "come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of the faithful; and enkindle in them the fire of thy love", you invite the Paraclete to fill your heart & increase the love of God within you. Can't you remember what cleopas & his friend said to each other after Jesus appeared to them on the way to emmaus "did our hearts not burn within us when He taught us". That was the Holy Spirit at work. Even though they couldn't recognize Jesus as He walked with them, the words he spoke stirred the flames of faith within them. Jesus warned us that a sign of the end time is that the love of many would wax cold. We ask the Holy Spirit to keep our love for God alive with His fire instead of asking Holy Ghost fire to fall & consume our perceived enemies. What about the hail Mary? In the 1st half, you recite scripture, the message of God passed by angel Gabriel & the revelation to elizabeth by the Holy Spirit. In the second half, you ask Mary, the mother of God (or you want to say Jesus isn't God despite what was written in john 1:1) and our mother (1 of the last words of Jesus on the cross) to pray for you, a sinner (romans 3:23) now & the moment you are about to breathe your last. Is that not far more mature than crying for breakthrough, favour, spouse & other ephemeral things of this world? Please how many times in your new church do you pray about the day you would die? You know that 1 day (should Jesus tarry), it is certain that you, me & every human would have to pass through the portals of death. That is the most important moment in our life. If 1 loses faith that very moment, 1 would be condemned no matter how faithful 1 has been up to that point. See the thief at the right side of Jesus. In his last moment, he acknowledged Jesus as Lord & obtained salvation & eternal life despite his offences. Look at the 4 mysteries of the rosary. You meditate on the birth, earthly ministry, death & resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ respectively as you pray the joyful, luminous, sorrowful & glorious mysteries. Meditation on the sorrowful mysteries is bound to evoke contrition & godly sorrow for sins committed especially the scourging at the pillar (for me). My brother, i beg you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Hurry back to the fold. You are like a man who has traded his land rich in gold deposit for a few meagre gold coins. It wasn't by error you were born into the catholic faith. Mine the land you were given & discover the true riches embedded within. |
Nodogragra4me:So anybody in your church can mount the pulpit & preach on Sundays as long as they are believers right? Anyone can walk into your church & proclaim himself the head Pastor or general overseer as long as he claims he's anointed? There is a special oil that comes from separation & preparation. After all, why didn't the Holy Spirit in the acts of the apostles tell all the believers gathered to undergo the mission He gave paul & Barnabas? Some certain tasks are given to those who have shown with action that they are indeed able to achieve it. You think to become a priest is a walk in the park? One spends grueling years in the seminary to see if 1 is truly committed & can persevere. Also, it's to prepare one for the trials & challenges 1 would encounter as an ordained priest. It is expected that 1 learns to avail himself to the grace of God & see himself as a servant to all in the seminary. Hence, at ordination, one is empowered by a bishop to dispense the sacraments because he has shown himself over the years to be a willing tool in the hands of God. That is order, which is encouraged in the house of God to eschew chaos & confusion, of which God is no author of. St Paul tells us in 1 corinthians 14 that things in the house of God should be done decently & with order. If that person in the future reneges, it stands to order that he should be stripped of his office & the authority to dispense those sacraments. |
oluvick:The body of Christ was founded by Jesus yes/no? Please which church has Jesus Christ as its actual founder? Which church can historically trace its origin to Jesus Christ? The catholic church was founded when Jesus said to simon "you are peter (rock) & on this rock I would build MY CHURCH (not churches)". That is how the catholic church came to be. It was called catholic because it was one at that time similar to the way believers were called Christians at antioch. It was because of the unity and uniformity in doctrines taught that the catholic church got its name. That was before people started separating from the church. The Roman portion came because the pope (peter's successor) became the bishop of rome. See the early apostles & believers. None went & set up his own church independent or unanswerable to the apostles. See when Philip preached in samaria. He had to call the other apostles who sent peter & john to lay hands on the converts. He didn't break away. When there was a dispute about the doctrine of circumcision, they all gathered together in Jerusalem & were able to reach a consensus guided by the Holy Spirit because of unity Check the history of any other church. It likely began when a man said that he was called by God & separated from his former church, sometimes in an acrimonious manner using charisma & cunning to lure some members of the movement he formerly belonged to. Sects & denominations arose in Christianity mostly because of rebellion & inability of the founders of those Sects to submit to the catholic church. The law of sowing & reaping manifested itself in most if not all of those movements. The people under them also rebelled & broke away to form their own denominations & the cycle continues until today If you read the bible, you would know that what obtains now wasn't so at the beginning. Believers all worshipped in 1 accord. Even St Paul spoke against any form of division in 1 Corinthians when he warned them against saying "i am for paul" or "i am for Apollos". We at the catholic church are encouraged to pray for the reunification of our separated brethren so that the body of Christ can once again be truly one. |
sacluxisback:Christianity is not supposed to be cool. Cool is often an adjective used to define acts that conform with the ideals of the world. A true Christian should be obsessed & concerned with how to enter heaven rather than trying to be cool. What is judgemental? Do you know the gravity of that man's action? Jesus prayed in the Gospel of St john 17 chapter 21 specifically that all believers may be one as He & the Father are one. Is this action in line with Jesus' prayer? Did Jesus ever leave what God told Him to do to pursue His own interest? No, He submitted to God even to the point of death. He used the relationship between Himself & God as a template for how united we, His followers should be. That man would likely take some gullible members along with him thereby committing schism; division of the body of Jesus Christ. This is a man who vowed before God to submit Himself to the authority of the catholic church on the day he was ordained & he's now making a u turn. This is similar to the sin of Lucifer, who rebelled against the authority of the Almighty God simply because he was heavily anointed, beautiful & powerful. We saw the result of that. It's men like him who make non-Christians laugh & poke fun at us when we ask them to accept Jesus. |
What exactly is wrong with us in this country? A place where anything goes. Something as small as a cut that if they had nothing, they should have at least used salt to take care of it. Lizard faeces? From a matron? In saner climes, that school should have been immediately shut down or the principal & matron suspended or even fired instantly. If we had a sane judiciary, the school should have been convicted of gross negligence & heavily fined. This country is more or less a failed state. |
chiboy7:More like 60% loading. Not to sound like a wet blanket but the 2nd leg against Cameroon exposed the mediocrity that is very prevalent & celebrated among Nigerians. We went to Yaoundé to achieve a draw not bothering to aim higher for a win. We could have beaten the Cameroonians in Yaoundé the way they played. If we were half as sharp as we were in front of goal as in the first leg, we could have scored a 2nd goal. The midfield (especially mikel) went on break for most of the 2nd half leaving the wingers to bear the brunt of initiating attacks. Our profligacy was punished when the referee gifted them a penalty (which IMO was unwarranted) which they converted to level the score. We were fortunate that the referee became vigilant afterwards because the Cameroonians started diving in an attempt to win another spot kick. What would have been our fate if he was deceived? Yes, a draw wasn't a bad result but we could have done better because the Cameroonians didn't exactly step up to give us a really tough time. We should have punished them. That is what separates the top teams from others. They are ruthless and offer their opponents no quarters. They don't rest on their oars. They rest when the job is done. Yes, we currently lead our group but that is no excuse to think we have already qualified for the world cup. If we lose our next 2 matches & zambia wins theirs, we wouldn't qualify. Yes, it's highly unlikely but it's possible in the realm of football. If we won at Yaoundé, we would have been 5 points up, thereby making it more difficult for Zambia to try & mount a comeback. Now, Zambia are 3 points adrift & we play them next. Imagine if they beat us at uyo. They would be equal on points with us. It's possible after all, we did beat them at ndola. Didn't south africa beat us in uyo? Playing at home is no guarantee of a victory for us. It is not over until it's over. Can you remember how we qualified for the 2010 world cup? Tunisia led the group until the very last match day when they slipped up. We need to guard against complacency & thinking we have already arrived. That's the reason why since 1999,no Nigerian player has won the african player of the year. Even top teams & players challenge themselves to do more. |
Opinionated:Let me not sha argue with you but my opinion is that anyone who uses either wealth or looks as the prime yardstick for choosing a life partner is shallow. That person places prime value on things rather than people. Instead of looking for how to add value to the life of that person, all the person wants is to be a beneficiary. The joy of marriage is to look at the person you married after some years & see the marked positive difference in that person's life because of you. When you approach marriage with that mindset, what you would look for in a life partner would change. You don't realize that the wheel of life can turn for or against anyone at anytime. If a whole king Nebuchardenezzar could be reduced to eating grass in the forest, who can't be brought low? So what happens if that wealthy person you choose goes broke in the future? Why do you think that this caveat "for rich or poor" is included in the vows of Christian wedding ceremony? |
celebsnest:We singles really need to start praying & preparing for our marriage right now. All those negative things you want to drop then, start dropping it now. Become the responsible, virtuous person that would be a virtuous partner to your spouse now before even meeting the person because it would be difficult to drop it in marriage. Don't expect some miraculous metamorphosis as soon as you say "i do". You would still be the same person that you were before. The only difference is that someone else (your spouse) would see you as you really are. Don't wait for that person to change you. Start changing yourself & make the person's work easier. |
ABIOLAXYZ:No when soul dey burn for hell na im person go sabi say im for do body like firewood when im dey earth. |
RETIREDMUMU:Thank God instead. To Him be all glory. I hope that you truly heed to these words. May God strengthen you in Jesus name. Amen. |
RETIREDMUMU:I can't help you Op but God can. Submit to Him, repent genuinely & receive Jesus Christ into your life today. He would help you to flee from immorality & youthful lusts. IMO, what you have is the "amnon complex". Amnon, David's son lusted so much for his half sister Tamar & when he finally had his way with her, the bible said that he hated her so much that it was equal to the manner he once thought he loved her. If you search your mind well & are blunt & honest with yourself, you would realize that you never really loved any of those women you were sleeping with. They were just tools for you to satiate the lustful yearnings of your flesh. Hence, when that desire was met, they had no use for you again. Hence, you got rid of them like you would to a sachet of 'pure water' after downing its content. You really need Jesus Christ, who would teach you how to crucify the flesh with all its lusts & desires. He would overhaul your mindset & make you see things in a different light. Our bodies are supposed to be God's temple, a holy, living sacrifice to Him. Don't defile the temple of God because you were redeemed by a hefty price (the blood of Jesus Christ). Read 1 corinthians chapter 13, which talk about the qualities true love must possess. If you can't do this to any woman, don't even befriend her not to talk of being in a relationship with her. Instead of pursuing sex in a relationship, focus on weighty issues like the fear of God, trust, mutual respect, honour, concern, selflessness, responsibilty, purpose etc. Those are the things that would ultimately build a happy marriage for you. A woman is more than what is in between her legs, she is more than shapes, curves, looks & other physical attributes. She carries an image of God within that you should help her to fully express. Your aim should be to promote God's agenda in her life not engage in acts that jeopardize both your souls. Surrender unto Jesus, be a chronic prayer & bible studying & meditating practitioner & ask the Holy Spirit to guide you. Start with 2 corinthians 3: 3-5 focusing on the last sentence of verse 5. God bless you. |
hopefulLandlord:Yes God is love but He is also just. He offers us a choice, His way or our way the same manner He told the jews "behold I set before you today life & death; choose life. He doesn't force us to accept 1 however He makes plain the consequences of the choices we make. If we follow His way (Jesus Christ as stated in john 14:6),He avails grace to enable us end up being with Him in heaven but if we choose our way, it would ultimately lead to hell as the book of proverbs warns that there is a path that seems right to a man that the end leads to destruction. You can't expect to take the road leading to enugu & think you would end up in abuja. Now what is evil or wicked in that? What God basically does is give us what we wish for. If we by our belief, thoughts, words & actions desire Him, He gives us Himself in heaven where we would see Him in His full glory. If we don't desire Him, He takes us to a place where His presence is withdrawn. There, the devil, God's vanquished rival & fallen angels abound. Rather what i think is wrong is thinking that 1 can live a life in disobedience to God, ignore several opportunities to repent & expect to finally be with Him. The Lord's prayer says "thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven" meaning that heaven is a place where God's will is in total control. If 1 can't submit to God's will on earth, how can such a person submit to His will if allowed into heaven? The person would only continue his/her rebellion in heaven. You think any sin is small or inconsequential? Sin is sin & sin is of the devil who once said "i would exalt myself above the Almighty". When we sin, we subvert God's will & enthrone ours. We give in to the nature of satan to undermine God in our lives. That is the spirit behind any sin no matter how 'little' it seems & that is rebellion which the bible makes us understand is the same as idolatry. What you call "disobeying nit picky rules" is like encouraging someone to nurse a puff adder or king cobra in his bosom. That is what sin is. It is poison to the soul. If i handed you a bottle of the sweetest drink in the world & as you took the 1st sip, told you it was poisoned, would you keep drinking it? Would you ignore me just because it's sweet? I think not. You would most likely fling it away & try to look for an antidote for the 1 you've consumed. If you do that for this temporal body that would 1 day perish & rot away, why not do the same for your soul that is eternal? Fling away those seemingly sweet acts, thoughts & words that are laced with sin & seek the antidote (Jesus) today. Now let me try & answer your questions. 1. Anybody can go to heaven as long as they GENUINELY repent of their sins. It's more than just saying "i'm sorry". It means that they should be deeply remorseful for rebelling against God, that were it possible for them to go back in time, they wouldn't have done such & if faced with the same situation in the future, they would resolve to cooperate with God's grace & not repeat such again. So if a nazi who murdered jews before his death comes to such a state & turns to Jesus, he would be saved. Also if any Jew before death repented & believed in Jesus Christ, he too would be saved. Nobody can stop anyone from receiving & submitting to Jesus. The worst they can do is kill, persecute, torment or torture you because you have submitted to Jesus. Jesus is mine & none can take Him away from me (romans 8:35,39). Hallelujah. 2. Why wouldn't i serve God? He who gave His only begotten son for me? He, whose persistent love sought me unrelentingly when i was lost & deeply submerged in the quagmire of sin? Who brought me out & washed me with the blood of the sinless Lamb of God, who became man & took my sin on Himself & nailed it to the cross that i may be made righteous? 3. Where else would i be safest if not heaven? A place without sorrow, pain, sickness or evil. Where God would wipe away every tear. Where the streets are paved in gold. Where i would be with God & all the saints who have fought the good fight forever. Where i would hear God say to me (by God's grace) "well done, good & faithful servant, enter into the joy of your Master". May i (& you also) not miss heaven in Jesus' name. Amen. |
bossto:Was it not south Africa that has never beaten us before that came to thrash us 2-0 at uyo? It's not the same Cameroon we are facing. The ones we are facing now are the current african champions. That means that on paper, we are playing the best team on the continent. Their striker, Vincent abubakar netted a hattrick for Fc Porto just a week ago. It would be extremely foolish to underestimate them especially as we are lacking in numerous departments. History would count for nothing in this match. |
oglalasioux:So is there any evidence that points to the fact that God doesn't exist? Thank God you said SEEMINGLY good. Who is good? Are we as humans fully capable of deciding what is good? Our definition of good & evil is always changing. Today's good might become tomorrow's evil. Search yourself honestly. Can you beat your chest that every thought, word & action you engage in is good? You don't envy, backbite, hold grudges, lust etc? God gives us choices by gifting us freewill. He doesn't force you. It is not in His nature to go against our wishes. Therefore, a lot of evil we see in this world can be traced to the poor decisions made by certain people that ends up affecting their neighbours eg a person decides to be an armed robber & kills another person whilst trying to rob him/her. You can't deny that if we all loved each other & were truly our brother's keeper, the world wouldn't be so messed up. Besides, this world we live in is temporary. We would soon leave it. Imagine if everyone lived with the awareness & conviction that we would all account for all our deeds & receive eternal reward or punishment. People wouldn't act or think the way the way they presently do. God loves us (you, me, everybody). The problem is that a lot of us don't truly love God. |
oglalasioux:You know that death applies only to mortals right? You need to have a body to be able to die. A spirit can't die. I don't know why (i don't know everything because i'm human). What we call death as humans is just the crossing over to another world by our spirit. Man is a spirit with a soul housed in a body. Our bodies are just vessels that we discard at death & go to where we would spend eternity. Besides the book of revelations tells us that at the end of the world, the devil, demons & condemned souls would be cast into the lake of fire. I don't understand God fully. My mind is too infinitesimal to have Him all figured out. I just trust Him. You know how you don't always understand your parents but just know that they have your back. This is something like that only more. He who created me & knows even the number of hair strands on my head can never do me evil. It would all work together for my good. |

oglalasioux:Hell was not originally created for humans. It was created for the devil & his angels after they rebelled against God. What God offers is a choice, a just 1. Serve Him in Spirit & truth & be with Him in His kingdom or follow the devil & be with him in hell. The choice is yours & mine. God would never force anyone to serve or worship Him. Whoever you choose is whom you would spend your eternity with. |
Tolexander:The same reason why there are no functional oil refineries in the south south (or anywhere) in Nigeria. The same reason why there are no locally owned chocolate beverage industries in the south west (multitrex, ibadan should have folded up by now & the people making big bite chocolate candy bars went out of business when i was still a little boy), why we grow rubber & still import tyres (dunlop since left). We lack vision & sufficient middle & long term planning skills. The default Nigerian mentality is deeply entrenched in unnecessary sentiments & extremely selfish only satisfied with what it can consume today with no regard for the welfare of others. The northern center would want to be the prime beneficiaries of this. Watch how a few greedy people would benefit from this to the detriment of the host community. |
NwaAmaikpe:Don't judge that man. If you aren't careful, you might be surprised that he would make heaven while you wouldn't. Wasn't Cornelius a centurion & yet he was upright? God had to specially commission peter to bring the Gospel of salvation to him & his house. Jesus said that it would surprise many people that those adjudged to be sinners like prostitutes, tax collector etc would make heaven before the pharisees. Anyone can make heaven as long as he/she repents & follows Jesus Christ. Wasn't the repentant thief that was crucified alongside Jesus forgiven & granted a place in heaven? Stop being a 21st century pharisee. |
Tolexander:Silicon valley isn't named such because silicon or any natural resource is found there. It's because it is a science & technology hub. It is the site of numerous tech firms & start ups. It accounts for one-third of all of the venture capital investment in the United States. That's the problem with Nigeria. We believe that natural resources are the genesis & revelations of everything. Until we start developing our human resources (the citizenry) by investment in widespread quality education, we would continue to not make progress. The west & other nations would continue to advantage because they take serious care to develop their people especially the youths & children while we are struggling & killing ourselves for natural resources that because of our intellectual backwardness, we would still give to the whites to get peanuts. The whites would then refine & process our resources & sell it back to us as a higher price. Is that how we would progress? Chinese people had to come & discover minerals for us & instead of us to be ashamed, we are clapping for ourselves. The bitter truth is that the discovery of any resource wouldn't make anything better in Nigeria. Oil was discovered in oloibiri around 1959. That place still has no light, running water & other basic amenities. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silicon_Valley?_e_pi_=7%2CPAGE_ID10%2C2140982921 |
Bobbybube:So many articles of our Christian faith are not explicitly stated eg the trinity but Spirit - led, intensive word study & revelation led to their discovery as they were implicitly mentioned in the bible. It's the Spirit of God that gives understanding to the treasures contained in scripture. The letter killeth. To answer your question, genesis 2:24 which says "therefore shall a man leave his father & his mother, & cleave unto his WIFE (singular not wives): & they shall be 1 flesh". That was the will of God for marriage in the beginning. If God intended that a man should marry more than 1 woman, He wouldn't have made just eve for adam. These words were repeated by our Lord Jesus Christ in Mark 10:7-8, however with a more specific definition of who consisted of the "they" from the verse from genesis "and the two (not 3,4,5,6) will become one flesh.’So they are no longer two (again) , but one flesh" (Mark 10, verse eight). So you see that God instituted marriage to be between 2 persons, a man & a woman AKA monogamy. Anyone doing otherwise is not doing God's will & remember Jesus said that only those who do God's will would enter the kingdom of heaven. Another verse that refers to this is 1 Corinthians 7: 2 "...... Let every man have his own wife (again not wives) & let every woman have her own husband (not husbands). If you look at the life of St paul (the author), he was an ex persecutor of Christians but was converted by Jesus Himself & most of his teachings were by the revelation of the Holy Spirit. He had little physical contact with the apostles hence none of the 12 preached to him. True, people in the bible practiced polygamy but did God instruct them to do so? No, they all did it in opposition to God's will & if you study the bible well, you would see that it had a negative effect on them. In fact let me chronicle them for you, the 1st polygamist, Lamech ended up being the successor of the curse of Cain (the father of murderers), the next was Abraham, who because of impatience for the arrival of Isaac , listened to Sarah & married her slave hagai. Ishmael, the product of that union is the patriarch of the Arabs & the entire world is still suffering from the repercussion of that decision today. Then we had Jacob, who wanted to marry just Rachel but because he was deceived by laban mistakenly married Leah. He went ahead & made Rachel his 2nd wife. Because He favoured Rachel, God made her barren & made Leah fruitful & like Sarah, they both made him marry their slaves. God finally relented & gave Rachel Joseph & Benjamin. We see how Joseph's half-brothers nearly killed him if not for Reuben. Still they sold him into slavery. I can go on & on to list the tragedy men in the bible brought on themselves by engaging in polygamy. Is it Solomon whose wives led him astray to serve other gods which led to him losing 10 tribes of israel & only keeping 2 because of God's love for david or david himself whose children from different mothers started killing each other. The list is endless but look at men who walked with God like enoch, Moses (who God spoke with like a man speaks with his friend), Samuel (who spoke with God from his childhood), elijah, elisha, isaiah ... No polygamist. |
Destined2win:To say 1 needs a Godfearing spouse is very sweet in the mouth but how many people who say this are Godfearing themselves? Let's be honest with ourselves, the fear of God is nearly extinct in the world today especially in Nigeria. If we feared God, the many evils carried out daily wouldn't be heard of. People wouldn't try to do anything that can harm their neighbours. People would not cut corners or exploit others under the guise of being 'sharp' or 'smart'. All those atrocities we think we are getting away with because no one can see us would cease because a Godfearing person knows that God sees & knows all;nothing is hidden from Him. A Godfearing person lives with the consciousness that any moment, his/her soul can be demanded for by God & he/she would stand before Him & give account of everything he/she did while on earth hence someone who fears God wouldn't want to do anything that displeases God because sin gives him/her no pleasure & if he/she mistakenly falls, he/she immediately humbly beseeches God for mercy with a contrite spirit & a broken heart. A person who fears God lives to please Him above other people or things whether family, friends or loved ones. If asked to rebel against God for any of their sakes, he/she would rather choose God over them. A Godfearing person is the individual who denies oneself, pick up his/her cross & follows Jesus daily, giving his/her life as a living sacrifice to God. So ladies & gentlemen, if you don't fall into this category, i don't think you fear God & you shouldn't desire a Godfearing spouse because it is written that an ox & a mule shouldn't be yoked to pull the same plough. Marriage is work;very serious, hard work & if the 2 parties lack the same purpose, they shouldn't come together in the first place. My 2 cents. |
Liveair:If your intention is to mock God, kindly desist. Do not mistake His silence & long suffering for foolishness. If it's to mock me, i take no offence. It might be that you didn't understand the allegory i gave. I likened the universe to a machine & God its maker. The fact that the universe exists points to the fact that it was made therefore it has a maker. Do you know the name of the person(s) (not the company) who made the phone you use? What do you know about the people who manufactured the numerous parts that form the components of your phone? Where do they live? Can you tell me their nationality, history, age, weight, marital status and other information? So saying that God is imaginary is like saying that the makers of the phone you use are imaginary & your phone works "randomly". |
OkpekeBeauty:Op IMO you are trying to twist scripture to defend carnality. Of what concern is aso-ebi that it is compared with a parable that talks about the kingdom of God? To me, aso-ebi is not a bad thing on its own. What i found repulsive about it is the way people decide to make a big deal about it & the way some people decide to use it to extort money from their family members & guests. Some emotionally blackmail friends & family members to purchase the material no matter how heavily priced it is without considering whether those people want to buy or can afford it. If that individual puts his/her foot down, the person selling most likely bears a grudge against that person & makes a mental note not to purchase aso-ebi when that person celebrates an occasion. People give preferential treatment to people who buy aso-ebi in the banquet hall. Seats are sometimes reserved for them. Sometimes, people who don't buy aso-ebi might not get food or souvenirs. How is that glorifying God? Jesus spoke in parables to pass across messages about the kingdom of heaven. The wedding feast is everlasting life which begins with acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord & saviour. The initial people invited were the jews, who rejected & crucified Jesus. God then invited we the gentiles to partake in salvation & eternal life. However, we need to do as St paul instructed in Ephesians 4:22-24. We need to put off the former man (the corrupt adamic nature & all that pertains to it) & put on the new man (nature of christ). That was why that fellow was cast into the darkness where there was weeping & gnashing of teeth (hell fire). So take the substance & don't chase shadows. Finally remember 1 Corinthians 10:23. All things are lawful but all things are not expedient & edit ying. Remember that we are engaged in a marathon race to heaven & we have to cast all weights & distractions to run a good race. Shalom. |
Liveair:I know the universe is vast but truly i don't know how vast (i haven't even visited half of the states in Nigeria) but i know that the God i serve created all of them. What we call random is because we don't fully understand how the universe work due to our infinitesimal ability compared to the all knowing Almighty God. Does a machine work randomly? Isn't there a certain mechanism of function? Doesn't it have a maker? Can 1 say because he/she hasn't seen or known the maker of a machine, the machine has no maker? Something cannot come out of nothing. There has to be a source. The universe & all that is in it is too big & complex not to have a maker that created it & sustains it. |
Kobicove:Can the clay question the potter about the manner it is fashioned? Can it insult his skill & mock the ability of his hands? No, because the potter is way above the clay & molds it into whatever shape he desires. We are the clay & God is the potter. Can we, mere weak, mortal men who use less than 10% of our brain power fully understand He who made the entire universe? The Almighty cannot be fully comprehended. He is way too complex for us. We only glimpse bits & pieces of His persona. All we can do is love Him & bow to His will because scripture assures us that all things work together for good for them that love God and are called to His purpose. |
isaacsegun:Op i honestly don't know what to tell you. I cannot judge or condemn you because i am way far from perfection but there are certain grey areas in your story. Are both your parents aware of the abortion? Is that why they kicked against you 2 being together? Do you really want to get married to her? Or are you trying to stylishly use the guise of your parents not approving of you guys to dump her because you fear that the abortion BOTH of you carried out would impair her child bearing should you marry her? if yes, then you are adding a tanker of petrol to fire. You committed fornication, murder & now want to add deceit all to attempt avoiding the consequences of your actions. Remember that there is God, who sees all & 1 day (which you don't know when), you would stand before Him & give account of what you did. I'm ill qualified to advise you on whether to marry her or not. It's only God that can direct you. The both of you should genuinely repent, confess your sins & surrender to our Lord Jesus Christ. Cry out in humility for God's mercy because human blood in its most innocent form was shed. Remember how the blood of Abel cried out to God against Cain? I believe that if you both do this in sincerity, God would lead you both to a solution. Marriage is no trivial matter. Both of you need a green light from God to proceed. Seek His face earnestly. God bless you. |
Op Thank God for you. However let me encourage you to draw closer to God. Make Him your all in all & rely on Him totally. Your will power is very strong (stronger than mine, i admit) but everyone has a limit. The devil is very wily & would lie in wait for when 1 is weak then tempt the person. Surrender completely & ask Him to take over your will & make it His own. Death to self & crucification of flesh is the true, everlasting antidote to any sin. I also was once caught in that sinful practice but the grace of God delivered me & would continually keep me away from it. The changes have been immense. I feel stronger, engage in more challenging physical exercise, concentrate more. Even the quality of my human relationships have improved. I am less shy & more confident. I can converse comfortably with females without lusting after them. I can open up & really be friends with them & vice versa.... even those who know i'm attracted to them. The wet dreams you mentioned, i don't have them. Yes, i wake up to pee a lot at night but i think it's due to the cold weather. For me, it's been all ups & no downs. All courtesy of God's grace & mercy. |
donnie:Of course to human perception, it still remains bread & wine but through the eyes of faith in our Lord Jesus Christ who instructed us to do this in memory of Him, it is His body & blood with all His presence contained within. In that same chapter that you quoted, didn't St paul warn that anyone who eats & drinks unworthily of the Lord's supper is guilty of the body & blood of Jesus Christ & 1 eats & drinks condemnation to 1's soul? If it was mere, powerless bread & wine, why would he give such a grave warning? Because we receive our Lord & saviour into our bodies when we eat that bread & drink that wine. Through that meal, we receive strength just like elijah did on his way to horeb. We become Christopher (bearers of Christ). We eat for today & for the last day when Jesus would raise us up in our incorruptible bodies. We are joined to the Lord and have become one body with Him. Hence it would be folly if 1 doesn't prepare adequately to receive Him worthily. 1 loses the bountiful promises attached & brings woe on his/her head. |
NoWorries7:Have you ever been to mass before? Have you ever asked a priest to explain whatever grey areas you have regarding the doctrines of the church? You stand from a view of ignorance & castigate the church whose founder was Christ Himself. Who made you judge? If the catholic church has nothing in common with Christianity, then every other denomination has even lesser than the catholic church does with Christianity because the bible was compiled by the catholic church. |
