Haven’t been here long but have seen no hungry kids on the streets begging like I saw everyday at home.
So where did you then get your passport? Or did you get the passport before travelling out of naija?

All those talking about they will never come back after traveling abroad, keep deceiving yourself. Anyone abroad that says that is either living illegally and will not be able to return after visiting, or they are dead broke and can't even afford a bloody plane ticket.
Facts. If one has money or works online earning dollars or in a good Nigerian company with health insurance and then live in one of those estates in Abuja with almost 24 hours electricity, why live Abroad? The only reason to go abroad is to get a stronger passport and good money that enables one establish and settle big in Naija chilling with the big boys. Dangote lives in lagos and has no house abroad, Adenuga is always there chilling in Bannana Island, the Elumelu's also and the rest of them. They only go abroad for business trips or holiday. That is the kind of life we Nigerians should dream of, not thinking of living all of our youthful years abroad.

Seeking group support? Kenya monthly cement consumption is trending towards a million metric tonnes. 3 million in 2022 will be done in 3 months.

896825 Tonnes in August of 2021
Give us straight data from Kenyan sources, not projections.

but u didn't read where it was stated that "from last year"? That is the report is an 18month data, last year + 1st half.

Ur all time cement consumption record is 6.7m tonnes when u're constructing the nairobi- Mombasa rail line. From the same data. So how can u be consuming more cement than ur highest record?

https://www.constructionkenya.com/2176/cement-consumption-kenya/
It means in 2021, they still wouldn't surpass 6 million tonnes, at most 7 million.

They are valid all the time. You not only have to beat us - but you have to beat us 4 times - to be ahead. To merely beat us - is not good enough. Unless you are happy with just enough. If you're building roads - I expect you to do 4 times more. If you are building schools - I expect to see 4 times more - just to reach our level.
grin what an argument. By your logic, I could also say if we are poor, we should be 4 times more. If we have unproductive individuals everywhere, we should be 4 times more grin.

See you want to lie so shamelessly like a typical Nigeria. Kenya half year - six month - cement consumption that you quoted was nearly 5M. That mean end of year it will be 10M.

Al-majiri graduate just concentrate on heckling - you cannot win an intellectual argument here.
Kenyan cement consumption and production was 3.5 million and 3.3 million in the first half of 2021, not 5 million.

Remove the patriotic blinkers and it staring at you.
Name any index - you're at best equal to Kenya or twice.
Total Bank asset - 110B dollars - versus 55B.
Cement consumption - 18-21 - versus 8-10m tonnes
The stuff you cannot rig like estimating agriculture - you're again at best twice as big as kenya.
In many areas your economy is below kenya -
Give and take - your economy is about 200-220B - not 400B.
Our total financial sector was 122.3 trillion naira, (293 billion dollars) as at 2019. Our banking sector was 42.6 trillion naira from that, and then 53.3 trillion in 2020. Can you give me the records for the total financial sector of Kenya (which includes fintech)?

Huge population as arguement wouldn't make sense in this instance because we are talking % of GDP here. If anything it should favour Kenya in this instance.

We are talking percentage of the so called overestimated GDP. Even by exports as a percentage of GDP, we are higher. By PMI (which is used to check manufacturing growth), we are better on average. Lagos alone with about 30 million people has almost thesame number of registered companies as the entire Kenya. So definitely, I don't know what this thread is all about and where the pride comes from. It's not even an arguement, not even close.

We have been doing this for six years now. Read this thread backward then jump into 10k pages. It rather obvious that Nigeria GDP is overstimated and should be roughly twice kenya - about 200B - not 400B.
I was on this thread in 2018 and I'm back here. If I had seen a convincing evidence, I would admit no kidding. There is nothing to show Kenya is more productive than Nigeria, even if you focus on only the non oil sector.

Obaboon, every broken clock is right twice everyday. You're right - kenyans are of course less productive Morrocos. I dont think that has ever been an argument. We are also 3-4 times less productive than South Africans. The argument is when we compare Kenya and Nigeria. We disagree that Nigerians are more productive than us. More naturally endowed with minerals yes - but more efficient and productive - hell NO.
So then what indices suggests Kenyans are more productive than Nigeria? grin.
Do the comparison of both private sectors and all forms of industries and let's see. You are also less endowed with minerals than many countries in Africa like Congo and Angola right? Bring up the facts, and make it make sense.
Let's take for instance the Industry including construction value added, % of GDP. Nigeria is 25.7% and Kenya is 16.4%.
As for having more resources, it's possible to have resources, and not have enough of the indigenous private sectors taking advantage of those resources. This is why you have a bigger GDP than Congo, Gabon, Angola, Libya etc despite the resources in those countries.

I know this is popular but it's not how it's done. Governors don't recruit. Besides Soludo is not yet the governor.

As governor, he is at liberty to appoint commissioners and aids without going through these motions. For other civil service roles, the responsibility is on the State Civil Service Commission.

Btw, this should have been on an official Anambra State website with ...gov.ng extension. Soludo is getting too carried away.

But let us see where this leads. Meanwhile, I'm his ardent supporter and wish him well
He is doing it probably to get the general populace involved in Government. There are talented people out there with ideas, but who are not yet connected to the high and mighty for Soludo to just know them and pick them. A leader mustn't always do things the conventional way especially when it hasn't resulted in anything special.

This is the problem with technocrats in Nigeria. They come with good ideas but they forget they are dealing with animals.

Technocrats always fail in Nigeria without a gangster behind them! The recipe for good governance is a gangster in power with a government run by a good mix of technocrats and gangsters because our people are a difficult set of people.

I will be pleasantly surprised if he succeeds and if this template endures because if it does it will be copied elsewhere but experience of Nigeria tells me it is doomed to failure of the usual Nigerian factors of ego, nepotism, corruption, man knows man etc.

The problem of Nigeria is that we are Nigerians.
At least let him try it first and let's see. Leadership is key, bad followers with a bad leader spells doom for a people but definitely not as bad followers with a good leader.
A technocrat with strong convictions would do the right thing no matter what and it would go a long way.

South Africa problem is well known.. legacy of apartheid that miseducated the majority black in Bantu schools..the economy is largely held together by tiny white and Asian minority...and unfortunately the blacks are not getting the educational shift that will make them as productive and efficient as whites.Until South Africa address it's education it will remain neither developed or developing...it will remain in middle class trap like many Latin America countries.Asian countries are moving to developed world because they are serious with their education...the more educated the more efficient and productive you can be...for education is the common denominator of advancement
Facts. Education is the key and not just the conventional style of education but vocational skill learning, software training, and training in Entrepreneurship. China didn't just get formal education alone from the U.S, they acquired practical skills. They supported the section of their populace who possessed practical skills even when their products were substandard.

This is another small difference between the Chinese and the Indians. The chinese may not be taking over big software companies like the Indians or working in oil rigs like they are doing, but they have every section of their population manufacturing some of the most little things you can think of.

Also with Germany, you'll see there's almost nothing the Germans don't do for themselves even with the plethora of American companies in Germany.

Indigenous manufacturing is the way to wealth for any nation.

Obaboon it's called productivity..how productive are you to produce more goods and services from low population..using either bare hands or machines..it's efficiency and productivity.. Nigeria if it was to make it 200m as productive as say South Africa would have roughly 4 times bigger economy. How do you make people produce more? Developed countries uses less resources to produce more..in acre of land they produce 5 times what we do..from a cow they milk 5 times more..their employees at end day has done 5 times more work... their economy therefore becomes 5 times more ours
For the first time ever in your life, you seem to be making some sense.
However, South Africa is still punching below her weight and this is not because of the population. Just the way Nigeria has the potential to be a China in terms of GDP, South Africa has the potential to be a Japan in terms of GDP. Not in absolute terms but in comparable terms if you get what I mean.

And what is wrong with Borgen magazine?

Ok what about CNN grin grin
Lagos, Nigeria (CNN)Nigeria has overtaken India as the country with the largest number of people living in extreme poverty, with an estimated 87 million Nigerians, or around half of the country's population, thought to be living on less than $1.90 a day.
https://edition.cnn.com/2018/06/26/africa/nigeria-overtakes-india-extreme-poverty-intl/index.html
The reason I don't take this report about poverty rate seriously is because a dollar is about 416 naira and 1.9 dollar is about 800 naira (1000 naira black market). Anybody who lives in a typical village in Osun state can survive living on 800 naira a day (24000 naira a month) even with the inflation. It's even better if they have lands for farming (which many have). Poverty of less than 1.9 dollars a day would have more serious consequences in Ghana where things are more expensive and the dollar is much closer to the cedis.

No Economic sabotage but a larger amount of their population want a service-oriented govt where govt provide things for them without doing much in returns.

He's only playing d ostrich.
I think South African system is very European with more corps. Just looked at the number of jobs for Linkedin.com in South Africa. It's about 41000. Nigeria is the second country in Africa that comes close to that with just 9000. While 41000 is marvellous by African Standards (and even most of the world), it is not special by European standards because even countries like Poland have way more than that. Also most of European manufacturing at the basic level are indigenous.

The other African countries (including Egypt) have way less formal industries than South Africa, but they make up for this with much more informal industries. South Africa on the other hand is very European in system but do not have enough of what the average western European countries have to balance things out because the foreign firms totally outweighs the indigenous firms, and we know foreign firms are usually just branches, the bulk of the wealth benefits the headquarters and individuals with the highest shares.

Thanks for dropping this. I was just about to drop SMEs data. case closed.

However, In most countries, SME's contributes to more than 50% of GDP. Just do your research and you'll see. cool
But there are countries in Africa where it doesn't and that proves the point. Population alone is not the vital factor in GDP growth but what the active populace brings to the table.
So you have to give the Nigerian people due credit there beyond the population arguement.
Also not all sme's are equal or of the same value. Aba for instance produces almost everything you can think of from clothes to shoes, bags, etc. but with substandard materials (which is what they have). They rebrand them and sell, not just to Nigerians but outside Nigeria, while they label them with the name of foreign labels or countries most time.
