rvp2018: I am sure if I dig deeper into it - it probably a scheme to eat Central Bank money - rice anchor program. Where is the electricity to process the rice
They provide their own electricity when they build. You clearly don't know how these things work. No electricity yet I'm sure Lagos alone has an almost equal (if not better) manufacturing sector to all of Kenya with your electricity. All the industries in Nigeria functioning, how do they function without electricity?
rvp2018: GDP is easiest of maths out there. Done by anyone who can count and multiply. It simply getting production figures of all economic activities times the prevailing market price. VERY EASY
So since you know it's the easiest of maths out there, why would the Nigerian body lie about it without worrying about getting called out by top economists and world bodies?
rvp2018: IMF or WB doesnt have anything to do with GDP calculation. That is unilateral activity by Nigeria Stats Office. If you were to become broke like Ghana - then they will come and probably ask you to redo it. But look like nobody is willing to lend to Nigeria - so it very unluckly Nigeria will come to IMF class of hard knocks soon
If anything, Nigerian stats office has thrown out more humbling data against Nigeria. Same stats office once said 70% of the population live in poverty which was definitely not the reality at that time (2014). The reality it's that it's 40%. Most if not all of the data you quote to undermine Nigeria comes from thesame body.
It's no contest at all. Even without seeing this data, I knew in terms of manufacturing, only South Africa would be quite ahead while we compete with Morocco (known for her industries and manufacturing) and Egypt (powerhouse of North Africa).
rvp2018: Common story in every developing country where people have to eke a living.. hustling informally is captured in formal or pseudo data. Nigeria economy is not just over estimated..it's grossly overstimated starting with agriculture
But our informal sector is bigger than most African countries because of our population and desire to trade, and even those who are working formally with good pay may do trading by the side. So it's like comparing apples with oranges.
rvp2018: Common story in every developing country where people have to eke a living.. hustling informally is captured in formal or pseudo data. Nigeria economy is not just over estimated..it's grossly overstimated starting with agriculture
Go do your homework bro, in Agriculture, no African country comes close to Nigeria. We are now even the largest producers of rice in Africa and 14th in the world. The question of Benin republic smuggling rice into Nigeria is now totally becoming a thing of the past and all we are working on now is reducing the price of rice. These are the top 4 nations in Africa in terms of Agricultural sectors:
Nigeria Egypt Ethiopia South Africa
In FDI we are also top there behind Egypt and in PPP (not GDP nominal) we are second behind Egypt as well. So I believe the Data is accurate or slightly under reported.
rvp2018: Tax to GDP - the overcooked Nigeria GDP stick out like a sore thumb
Nigeria's GDP is actually underreported because 50% of people employed are in the informal sector (services) which are the small scale medium enterprises. This is why tax to GDP ratio is low and Government is working on that and even the world bank acknowledges that. This is why you'll see people doing a formal job that pays say 50,000 naira monthly but they live in a house where they pay 500,000 naira yearly or their monthly expenses are way more than 50,000 naira because they run other informal sectors that are not taxed.
For example, 7 years ago when I was teaching in a High school that pays 15000 naira to 20,000 naira monthly, I knew none of us who fully depended on our salaries (which wasn't even taxed). Almost everyone had fish ponds, or was in snail business, poultry business, or stuff like that which they did by the side. The ones who where not involved in such big businesses either had shops in their homes or did extra home lessons, so none of us then lived a life of 15000 naira monthly.
It is estimated that there are about 40 million small scale medium enterprises which Government should make formal and if you bring in our big Telecommunications market where over a 100 million people use a cell phone, we are more than what you have there or just about accurate. Kenya doesn't even come close.
kikuyu1: I've ZERO interest, absolutely ZERO fkn interest in going over all the indices from government salaries to educational and infrastructural quality again! Dude, we even uncovered your REAL GDP which is half of ours. You can tell others how wonderful Port Harcourt is if you want; personally I'm NOT interested.
Shma: Conduct your own research, brother. This dimwit is spreading nonsense, and maybe it's because I don't have the energy to retaliate. I can post hellhole - most uncouth north Nigeria and you'll all be bamboozled by the kind of ignorance you're commentating.
You agreed with me here that most of Kenya aside Nairobi and a few cities do not have paved roads or electricity. I asked/implied that it seems to be only Nairobi and a few cities that do not look like villages and you agreed with me. I have seen white visitors on Quora praise just Nairobi and also a few (about 3) black Americans praise Nairobi and by extension Kenya to the highest heavens, so I wonder why they only see the sky scrapers and beautiful roads of Nairobi and not look at 3-5 more cities at least. It seems to me there are not more than 5 developed cities/counties in Kenya with paved roads, electricity, banks, malls, etc. You see some black Americans who visit Ghana and Kenya, fail to talk about the large slums in Nairobi and the development being in just a few cities but they do not shy away from highlighting both the good and bad (in terms of development) when they visit other countries especially West African countries.
1bunne4lif: with the current state of things in this country, if APC is given the opportunity to rule this country for sixteen years like PDP, THERE WILL BE NO ONE LEFT IN NIGERIA to be ruled.
I agree but PDP did no tangible project bro, they just ate everything. APC is corrupt but if they can work on electricity and effective transportation, I would take them over and over PDP.
1bunne4lif: I wonder how much you were paid or will be paid after these analysis, Una mumu Neva do?
I would appreciate if you can debunk what he wrote. Both APC and PDP are useless but PDP makes APC look like a better option. We need a third party in Nigeria.
But if course the travesty zoo Kenya show must continue regardless of gallivant bitterness. At this point gallivant will poison me if he had the chance. He desperately hate that I am leaving no shred of respect left for his stupid zoo. I am basically digging, scattering and most importantly leaving no stone unturned.
I present to y’all the backwater crazy zoo of wajir town.seriously who cursed Kenyans? Same fvcking trend of absolute underdevelopment.Seeing this I can’t help but say I am proud to be Nigerian.y’all must admit, this past few weeks has been nothing shock, revealing, relearning and unlearning a lot of B.S we’ve been made to absorb over the years. I say never again,we must all be ready to embrace truth. Lest I forget, pls remember to throw in your wicked pity to this zoo,it will mean a lot to that fool gallivant.my sympathy goes to his senile zoo.
Wow, but Samorobo seeing all these things, it makes we wonder why foreigners and a few black Americans still praise Kenya as developed. Is it that they don't also see all these in the other cities? What is your theory?
And Ecowas can't fight in Mali and Burkinafaso because no leadership from Nigeria and yet we are just storing all these weapons. We need to flush out these bandits as quickly as possible and help Ecowas intervene in Mali like we used to do in the days of Abacha and Obasanjo else if the terrorists win in the Sahel, the entire region would be in trouble.
chrisooblog: Honestly the number of projects that Lagos, a sub-national of Nigeria is embarking on should leave the Kenyans too embarrassed to speak. BRT that Lagos state government did almost 14 years ago is what rsvp and co are just celebrating in 2022
Port almost finished, Refinery almost done, light rail progressing nicely, badagry express moving along nicely, fibre optic cables being laid across the state, All this and I haven't even mentioned the bridge in opebi they just started or the lekki road or the rice mill you just mentioned.
Despite all these capital intensive projects record levels of IGR are still being generated every year. Unlike my Kenyan brothers that have to go cap in hand every time to go and beg their Chinese Sugar daddies
Do you know the deadline for the fibre optics project?
68816419: The world's largest fertilizer plant begins production in Lagos , Nigeria with the supply of 120 trucks of fertilizer daily. The $2.5bn plant will bring in $400m yearly from export of fertilizer to other African countries as the Dangote facility more than meets Nigeria's demand.
It already began July 2021 and exporting to Brazil already.
LeSudAfricaine: Bro have ever heard of an ongoing Nigerian project that has impressed you recently? There's none! It's locomotive trians and I also saw a really basic -looking airport recently.. how many infrastructural projects have we achieved in the last ten years? But we are supposedly lazy ones.
So what are those unique non basic infrastructural projects you've achieved in the last ten years? I'm just curious though. You don't need to answer directly, you can give me a link.
There are also Nigerian owned offshore/mechanical companies as well and those from other nationals? so what's your point? Nigeria is not Kenya, nobody comes to Nigeria and then observe Indians dominating the top job spaces like some do when they get to Kenya. Doesn't that tell you something?
rvp2018: I never heard of anybody in Kenya or kenya gov promoting Nairobi for tourism. Tourists do not come to Nairobi - they go to Maasai Mara to watch animals - then retreat to coast to swim in warm sandy world class beaches. They sleep day one in Nairobi - and on their last day - probably. Why would a tourist come to see an African city?
So this our Nairobi of us has grown organically - without any oil injection like Abuja - it's just boom with economy - in 1960s & 70s - kenya economy was booming - Nairobi started to build skyscrappers - till late 80s - when economy went into rough patch - it stopped growing until 2005 - and it has been growing on steroids.
Bottom line - city grows or deteriorate with the economy.
I mean just like Kigali in Rwanda, the first thing everyone is exposed to in Kenya is Nairobi and you are more focused on Tourism than Nigeria.
68816419: if she also stayed in Maitama, Wuse,Gwarimpa,Asokoro, Ikoyi and the posh areas of Nigeria she would also say the same.
Exactly. The Kenyans promoted this their Nairobi so well, why for us we never saw Tourusm as important because of oil, and so everyone who comes to Nigeria is first exposed to MMIA and mainland lagos . Lekki/Ikoyi are there with their Hotels, Skyscrapers, and what have you. Constant electricity is not a problem in some parts of Nigeria, if you can pay for it. Just that it's better the Government provides constant electricity and for all especially.
The major problem visitors have with Lagos (usually extrapolated to all of Nigeria) is that it is fast and rugged. People want somewhere a bit relaxed, but there is Jos and of course Abuja or Lekki if you have the money.
