TayserMahiri: Military strength is subjective. Ethiopia definitely has a strong battle-hardened military that has good experience. Kenya's is modern. I don't know but I think Kenya with a superior economy would trounce Ethiopia. Not to mention we run better and would catch up with those who attempt to flee after the onset of hostilities Hati13
Interesting to know. Kudos to Kenyan government. I heard Al-shabaab strucked recently, how is your army coping with them?
For lovers of Soaps and TV sitcoms. >>>Here are some amazing Nigerian series you should try>>> Most of us already know Tinsel (Africa's number one Soap opera). So no need to include it here
***I think the problem we are having here is a simple misunderstanding. You guys seem to judge the quality of present day Nigerian movies with those of the past. Nuuuh nuuuh, mmm mmm.
Me thinks you guys should check out the modern and new Nigerian movies like these ones below and you'll really appreciate how far the Nigerian movie industry has gone. Check the castings and see many Hollywood actors featured, most of em movie profiles are avaliable on wikki.
Loool......SA media COMPLETELY DOMINATES Africa. See, there's a difference between media and content. Nigeria might have more of its content in various African countries but who knows ANY Nigerian TV station outside Nigeria for instance? We all have DSTV, we watch Channel O, Supersport etc. I personally don't know of any Nigerian media house. There's a difference between content and media.
Oooh if you mean in terms of satelite n television viewing media, of course South Africa dominates Africa in that aspect.
Buh we still have some cool channels from Nigeria like Ebonylife tv (it's now ranked the most influential indigenous African entertainment & style tv station). You can check it out........it was founded by Mo Abudu (whom forbes has ranked as the most succesful woman in Africa). She is the Oprah Winfrey of Africa, as she is the African most succesful tv host of all time.
~~~We also have SoundCity, HipTV, SpiceTV and many others~~~
>>>When it comes to movies & musics by individual entertainers. Don't you think awards go by quality? since Nigerian movies n musics always top African award shows?
TayserMahiri: Gal, our influence stretches far beyond East Africa to Central Africa and beyond. Kenya has enough military strength to afford to always send some on a peace keeping mission in other African countries. Watch this kick*ss General who changed the course of the Sierra Leonean war when he took over as UNMIL Force Commander from 2003.
Interestin** Seems like Kenya has the strongest military force in East Africa. I also heard about Ethiopia and a source i read from claimed they have the strongest military in East Africa. Do u think?
NairobiWalker: Bongo means brain. The first President of Tanzania Julius Nyerere used to say "Watanzania ni watu wenye bongo" which means "Tanzanians are a people with brain" and so Tanzanians started calling themselves "Wabongo" meaning "brainy people" and thus following the Bantu language structure, if we are "Wabongo" then our country should be Bongo just like Nigeria is Naijeria in Swahili and Nigerians are Wanaijeria thus in East Africa we call Tanzania Bongo and Tanzanians are Wabongo.
I used to watch Shuga when it was 100% Kenyan. I currently don't know if it still has Kenyan actors but I think Nick Mutuma is still in it.
You've probably heard lots of Kenyan music but you just didn't know they were Kenyan. I think Tanzanian musicians got lots of airplay when they started producing in South Africa and you know South African media dominates Africa.
¤¤ COOL ¤¤ cos i always hear the word Bongo in Tanzanian music.
***Do you have any idea why Shuga left Kenya?
Are you sure about SA media dominating Africa? Nigeria dominates in movies n musics from what i do see in the yearly african award shows. Or i might be wrong. What criteria do you use in judging domination?
NairobiWalker: You can search Kenya's music on YouTube yourself. Search artists like Elani, Punit, Octopizzo, Khaligraph, Camp Mula, Jaguar, Kristoph, The Kansoul, E-Sir, Nameless etc. They're so many of them. To be honest you only beat us on magnitude. Quality nah. On movies Kenya has very few of them.....it actually takes time for Kenya to produce a movie unlike the Nigerians who roll out movies weekly but honestly speaking I tend to find Kenyan movies of better quality. Even our TV programs are better. By the way you've watched Shuga? I guess you have - yes, that was a Kenyan TV program before Nigerians took it and it started Lupita Nyong'o among others. I'm told it's doing big in Nigeria yet it was just another TV program here in Kenya.
Oooh yah. I think i have come across Khaligraph Jones *great rapper*. There's a way he bends his mouth upwards when rapping. lol.....I've also seen a music by Jaguar n mafikizolo. I thot he was a south african. I will try to check out the rest.
I dont know, buh i seem to know more Tanzanian artistes and come across their music more often than Kenyan music. Buh Tanzanians seem to sing mostly only in swahili, n with a very melodious tone. What does Bongo mean in swahili?
Shuga? hmmm, i never knew. Thot it was a south African program featuring some few Nigerian actors. Are there any Kenyan actors in the program?
Nowenuse: Kenyans do not have any reasonable entertainment to offer, everyone knows that. And you are correct, they have no influence whatsoever outside East Africa. Believe anything they feed you at your own peril.
***u may have a point buh pls let's not be too harsh on our comments and words. When tones are high, we end up not learning from ourselves. +++ lets promote African unity with this platform+++ Nagode.
mtis: please just go to imdb an check movies from africa an ya got a surprise..no anything from Nigeria...Out there Naija movies are just another Africa tales. people dont go to theaters to watch naija movies..here in Kenya truth be told naija movies are mostly consumed by maids .(sorry to say that) an no one pays for it..
Yoooh maybe u'r talking about the older Nigerian movies buh as of late there has been a great transformation of the movie industry in Nigeria. Very quality movies are now being produced at high costs. Yap, no mincing. Yu should try some when u have the time
TayserMahiri: The most extreme northerner here is a middlebelter Guy called Nowenuse, he has been looking for a more northerly buddy all this time but hasn't been successful
I am actually a northerner too (smiles). Buh from same middlebelt. Ishalbash is actually from the far north
kikuyu1: I say this without hate but Agbani is average. The fact she was chosen shows there's Often an agenda at these shows.
Woaah! How can u say that¿¿¿ Agbani is beautiful, yaah she is, buh you know pageantry does not judge beauty alone, buh also character, intelligence n poise. Agbani is a combination of all 4
N when yu look at her face very well, she has some very unique facial feautures. Dontcha think?
MtuMsuper: i stated very clearly that English is a Germanic language!
Pidginization involves introduced words and alteration of grammar, let me illustrate. English and German : I am eating beef. Ich esse rindfleisch.
The introduced word there is beef which is French in origin(boeuf in French ). The word Rindfleisch in German is literally "Cow flesh " .The French taught the English to assign new words for the flesh of different animals. Hence, pig meat (schweinfleisch) became pork, chicken meat became poultry and calf meat became venison. The German grammar also doesn't include the verb 'to be'(which appears as am in the English sentence ) in expression of the simple act of eating the said meat. It would have been literally 'Ich bin esse rindfleisch', but somewhere along the way they must have dropped it.
Languages change their rules and add vocabulary all the time. No language has a monopoly on vocabulary, so borrowing is rife. Many a time languages have words that defy translation into another. Google the Portuguese word 'Saudade' and see what I mean.
Yes, kenyan.
*** Interesting +++ Seems like you speak german?
Yaah, i get what you mean buh my point is that you cannot say English was a pidginized language. Native speakers of a language cannot pidginize their own language, now can they? Since you are from Kenya, is it okay for us to say swahili is a pidginized language?
NairobiWalker: What's your definition of entertainment and why are you guys so obsessed with entertainment if I may ask? Again, do you really think Nigeria's entertainment is of higher quality than Kenya's or just of bigger magnitude?
Hooo, not like being obsessed. Only wanted to see the social influence thas all. Social influence is part of development or wah'd u think? *****Can't say nada about quality. I haven't really come across Kenyan entertainment except for Sauti sol's music. U can help me by referring me to help me from my ignorance. Tnks
fanficgirl: Yes, she did! I believe around April. I love her for being slim since I'm very slim as well. YouTube! My account is only filled with African videos. I try and go when I can! Was supposed to fo this summer but something happened
yaaaah Kk. I wish her conjugal bliss. Wonder wah took her so long. With her status, she must have been having many suitors, seems 2me like she is a choicy lady. Wah'd u think? ++++ I used to be a lil bit chubby myself, buh am slimmer now. You speak quite maturely buh you have a young pretty face like in your late teens. Aw do you do the magic ?
Marcelo290: That's exactly what I'm telling them, unless one wants to be biased in arguments, we can't be better in everything. but on a generalized note of development and infrastructures, Nigeria is ahead of them, at least for now.
I was actually born in, and resided in Benue before moving out, though am Igbo. are you Tiv, Idoma or Igede by tribe?
~~cool~~ I am Idoma by tribe. Tho i grew up in southern kaduna
Daaaah. Kenya is a well-planned country than Nigeria from what i can see. Buh it seems like Kenya's influence does not exceed east-africa.
***Also i would like to ask Kenyans here***, why does it seem like their social/entertainment industry is not so influential? It would have been definitely lovely to see Kenyan (African) movies featuring these aesthetically pleasing sceneries as are been featured here. I may be wrong though, so lemme speak for myself in case such exist, just haven't or would say hardly come across quality Kenyan entertainment.
MtuMsuper: English is at least 60% Latin derived , and at least 1/3 of vocabulary is derived from French, and French itself is mostly Latin derived. Yet its grammatical structure and syntax clearly makes it a Germanic language. So you see depending on how you see it English is pidgin French, Latin or German!! Now tell me, why do Nigerians want to pidgin an already pidgined language? Isn't that language and cultural appropriation ?
Holly I beg to disagree with you. English is a germanic language. It was simply a dialect of german that went through 'latin-ization' and 'celtic-ization' as the Anglo-saxons left the germanic speakers and mixed more with latin- derived languages speakers and celtic languages speakers. ***** I don't see how that was akin to 'pidginization' of the language.
>>>Pidgin evolves when non-natives of a language in an attempt to master the language adulterate it with influences from their original mother's tongues. The case with we Nigerians. Seems like you are Kenyan or Ghanaian?
bossman44: How many times did you have to do the peel?
U apply it morning and evening daily and in a couple of days, the face starts peeling off. Don't be scared, it's very simple to use and harmless. You will be directed on how to use it if you make the purchase. I spent over a 100k trying different products on my spot damaged face but to no avail until i came across FACE PEEL. Try it and u'll never regret it.
Ayofaks: What you need is just a simple salicylic acid face peel
@bossman44, this lady has said it all.
Dont mind all those peeps telling you to use neo medrol or whatever oil. No oil or cream would work for this. I have been there before and FACIAL PEEL was my saviour. A facial peel will help regenerate your skin. You will peel off the old one and grow a fresh new one.
Here, google for nikkysavy skincare products just like this page and contact her. She is based in Lagos and delivers her products worldwide. Her face peel saved my life and it will work for you too.
