MtuMsuper: Kansiime is from western Uganda from bakiga people. That is their normal, trademark accent. In Kenya, people tend to form humour around accents and the one from western Uganda is very hilarious to the Kenyan ear, so they imported her along with her jokes for tv. If you ever travel to Uganda, you will hear that accent alot. Even in Uganda, there are many accents. As an African, you should know accents and tribal origin are like 5 and 6! Oh I like Kansime. She is funny . Many Nigerians think she is Kenyan. Actually, most Nigerians may not be able to tell East africans apart, except the horners. I also think or see Kenyans n Ugandans to have the same or similar accents. |

68816419: sincerely speaking ,Nairobi have few nice places but most of these "nice " places are mostly dominated by Indians and whites fellas, Nairobi CBD have this advantage of it location, the location which is very close to the airport gives a good impression of the city and even the country at large, imagine having an airport at VI,IKoyi or even Lekki. while I was at Nairobi , I stayed at a place called Karen ("posh place "where literally all the politicians, and whites stays) this place was provided by the company i worked with, and this was based on the contract agreement signed, the agreement was to be provided with a safe and conducive areas, this so called"posh reserved" area not only have bad roads but does not by any means qualify to be rated above an average places in Abuja and Lagos, also, prior to leaving for kenya I had a very good impression of a nice "black African city" ,but I was wrong, my first disappointment came when I realised that an average black Kenyan does not see that the economy of the nation ain't longer in their hands rather in the hand of few Indians, Somalis and white people, best estates, supermarkets, shops, restaurants, hotels and other big business are owned by these few guys ,one can hardly go to a cinemas where Indian movies r not given priority above other movies let say Kenyan or even english movies, go to the industrial areas along airport roads and see how over 98% of the companies are owned by these Indians ,go to this so called "nice" places ,Karen,Westland, parkland, muthaiga, spring valley,lavington.. and see how very few the black Kenyans are , blacks in kenya mostly stays in a very low areas with very poor facilities and the funny thing is the fact they stay not too far from where the Indians and white stays .so, I would summarise my Nairobi experience as, a place designed for few whites,Indians and tourist. also, one would think it's only Nairobi that has this challenges but the truth is that, almost all Kenyan cities have same issues from Nakuru to naivasa, from Mombasa to malindi , from malindi to ukunda, from ukunda to eldoret, they all have this same issue of self delusional, myopic reasoning, they are all too blind to see what's going on, and it really pains me a lot. I have this friend from eldorate he once said this to me "it too late now ,we can never do any thing to these Indians ,any attempt to take back out economy from them means total collapse of our economy and we don't want to experience what happened to Zimbabwe and Uganda" I just laughed and ended the conversation... Oooh myyy! Nooo! ~~I have once seen a report where a black foreigner claimed that the number n influence of Indians n whites in Nairobi,Kenya is too much for a typical black african country buh i never thot it was that much~~. TayserMahiri, muafrika2, PissedYagami, MtuMsuper Is this really true? I'm sorry if i sound so much of a critic or racist, i am not against foreigners in any way. I love em buh i don't like the idea of foreigners dominating or having so much influence in African cities. Nuuh i don't. Why should they? |

TayserMahiri: Tourism is very lucrative. The government gets sick when something is hurting it because it brings in much needed foreign currency.
Kenya's fashion industry is a shadow of its former self. Cheap imports of clothes known as mitumba killed the textile industry. However, the government is reviving the sector and new brands have emerged strongly all of a sudden. A recent report came up with strategic goals recommendations.
Strategic Goal 1: Integrate Local Designers and Small Tailors in the Domestic Retail Market Strategic Goal 2: Strengthen The National Fibre to Fashion Value Chain Strategic Goal 3: Create an Enabling Environment to Support the Growth and Development of MSMEs in the Textile and Clothing Sector Strategic Goal 4: Strengthen the Trade Support Network through Institutional Alignment Strategic Goal 5: Enhance the Visibility of Kenyan Designers and Their Design Capabilities in Kenya, the Region and the Global Markets
As for entertainment, we are doing well but definitely can do better. The entertainment industry (as a whole and not restricted to movies) in kenya is definitely among the top in Africa. Nigeria however has an edge with its market, which kenya is trying to achieve by a unified East Africa. Kenya is the biggest pusher for an E. A Federation (like the UAE) Jeeee. great. **M happy that your govnmt is working on the fashion industry. Even we in Nigeria are working on our textile productions too. A lot of importation is also killing our local textile industries Yaah true, Nigeria has an advantage in entertainment with the large market, buh i still believe progress can be made without a large market as such, or don't you think? There was a time when Ghanaian movies and even musics beat Nigerian productions in quality and heavily penetrated our markets. Congo once dominated the entire Africa with their music due to the quality. Tanzanian musics seem to be doing pretty well, i am amazed from the quality of music videos n songs i watch from Tanzania n i heard that they have heavily penetrated the Kenyan market. Africans have similar cultures n values and we will always patronize ourselves if we have value to offer to our products, dontcha think? There is a large swahili speaking population n market, won't Tanzanians, Ugandans n other swahili speakers patronize Kenyan swahili movies if they are of world class quality? Even now, you won't believe how Ghanaian movie producers are giving Nigerian producers a hot chase in terms of movie quality, (Although Ghana n Nigeria works together a lot in movie production, so their movies easily gain the patronization of the Nigerian market), what stops a collabo btw East African actors, producers, directors n co? You musn't have a united union to do such. Nigeria n Ghana share no boundary, buh our movie industry is almost intertwined. See a Ghana movie below, there r many more of high quality like this. Some of the actors are Nigerians (the light-skinned guy at the centre and the dark-skinned guy on the left)

https://www.wttc.org/-/media/files/reports/economic%20impact%20research/countries%202015/kenya2015.pdf Kk. Cool. It's a lucrative industry. In Nigeria, private investment in the tourism sector is like the last option you will see in the mind of the average Nigerian. Only 1 state promotes tourism in Nigeria. That is the only state that seems to have a future in tourism in Nigeria. Do u see Kenya developing an entertainment and fashion industry just like Nigeria in the nearest period? |

Shaytun: It is inevitable.
Ethiopia’s economy is expected to overtake Kenya’s this year, buoyed by massive government spending on infrastructure that has kept the Horn of Africa nation on the list of the world’s fastest-growing economies in the past 10 years. The International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) latest statistical estimates indicate that Ethiopia’s gross domestic product (GDP) is forecast to grow from $61.62 billion in 2015 to $69.21 billion this year, narrowly beating Kenya’s output, which is expected to rise from $63.39 billion to $69.17 billion over the same period. “Ethiopia has experienced double-digit economic growth, averaging 10.8 per cent since 2005, which has mainly been underpinned by public-sector-led development,” the African Development Bank, the OECD Development Centre and the United Nations Development Programme say in the latest African Economic Outlook report. Kenya’s GDP of $14.1 billion in 2000 was 71.6 per cent larger than Ethiopia’s $8.23 billion in the same year but the Horn of Africa nation has closed the economic gap in the last five years of robust growth. The IMF’s GDP estimates are based on current market prices using exchange rates prevailing between July 22 and August 19. INVESTMENT DESTINATION Having established its economic lead ahead of Kenya, Ethiopia is forecast to maintain its position as Eastern Africa’s largest economy over the medium term — a position that is also expected to improve its standing as an investment destination Oooh yaaah. Am very happy for Ethiopia. That country has what it takes to be among Africa's largest economies. |
