shervydman: to a completely new place.... just like we moved our capital city to Abuja in 1991.
it should be ready by 2022......and it will cost about $45b
Deeee. Egypt! That country! I'm really proud of them, i only wished it was a sub-saharan african country like Congo or Ethiopia. I dunno why i find it hard to see north-africans as africans just like myself.
68816419: how about working harder to assist kenya pay their life time debt to China and stop getting frustrated ur children may have issues in the future if u fail to pay for it now. your project is scam and the world knows that, u keeping bringing terrains , loads of goods when ever u have been busted about the prize ..Nigeria and Ethiopia have same worst terrains but could mange to bargain it with cheaper price and better quality and not rubbish station which can be built by any architects and builder with less than $1million ..." the most import aspect of a sgr is the tracks and trains and not stations as no passenger would want stay in a station for more than 10 minutes "me
geee, I really hope the Chinese are not trying to take advantage of Kenya. Africans really appear as prey to Chinese people from what i have observed.
freshest4live: Personally l think Dangote is just smarter, and not just because of the government. The guy you are talking about is lbeto. Ibeto could not compete favorably when obasanjo demanded we make use of local cement and banned imports, Dangote used this to his advantage and built more cement plant factories. Now Dangote is building a refinery but 28 licenses were given for more than a decade now but no one came forth to build. It is true that Dangote is close to the Government, but so are some other top business men and there is no evidence to support the claim that he has deprived anyone from competing with him. It's just that when you are successful in Africa, people must find something to say. What l admire about him most is how he focused on Agriculture for a long time and saw opportunities in Agriculture when many were focused on oil. Now that he's into oil, he's doing it in grand style, making money but boosting the economy, if this is what it means to be a monopolist then l want to be just that.
freshest4live: Well there is a topic on Bella Naija on how Dangote has single handedly made Nigeria an exporter of cement and has helped her stop import automatically, some as usual shared this opinion of yours, but this was a reply from a guy named ovadje, which l also agree with....
Ovadje says: March 2, 2017 at 2:24 am @madman, repeating your madness does not make it any less insane...lol! Dangote Cements COMPETES in Nigeria with some of the World's BIGGEST cement companies - LaFarge, Holcim (which has now merged to become the World's biggest producer), the UK's Blue Circle (before it merged with LaFarge) Scancem, and Heidergerg. Some of these companies were in Nigeria since the 1950s/60s, but it was not until Dangote Cement entered the market did cement quality in Nigeria improved from the basic 32.5R to 42.5R and finally up to 52.5R (which only Dangote Cement produces in sub-Saharan Africa). Furthermore, Dangote has even left the "comfort" of homeland Nigeria to go compete against these same global giants (in addition to local firms) in many other countries across Africa. So, abegi quit hating and give CREDIT where duly earned! https://www.google.de/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=/amp/s/www.bellanaija.com/2017/03/dangote-exports-400000-metric-tons-cement-produced-in-nigeria/amp/&ved=0ahUKEwiUm-v-uqTUAhXDFiwKHXisCb4QFghFMAo&usg=AFQjCNFEUuXgcaEoIEgU_qQHN2Dep-rQ7w!
Thank u for this point. At least we can all confirm it that Dangote has more ideas and thinks better than his business contemporaries in Nigeria. He has a global vision, while most of his contemporaries are very much local-minded. That man is a blessing to Nigeria (regardless allegations of government favouritism).
Marcelo290: I was making a study and I discovered that the type of capitalism practised in Nigeria and some other capitalist countries in Africa does not encourage development. Taking Dangote and his establishments in Nigeria as a case study, mostly in the area of cement production, I think he is enjoying too much monopoly which is not good for a developing country.
The funny thing is that he has the backing of the government, so who the government is for who then can be against? When there is monopoly of goods in a market, the owner of the means of production may increase the price any time he wishes, and since there are no alternates, the whole country gets affected, there was a particular scenario where one big business man imported cements to come sell, it posed a big challenge to Dangote, what did Dangote and his groups do? he reduced the price of his cement then to about #950 just to give the man a run for his money, the man in other to avoid running on a loss, pleaded with Dangote for him to buy his own from him for almost his cost price.
In my own point of view, monopoly kills competition, and competition kills development, a big country like Nigeria needs to be diversified and not allowing one person dominate the whole country, that's why when inflation occurs, the whole country gets affected! Although dangote has created lots of job opportunities for Nigerians, I think his form of monopoly is doing us more harm than good in this country, I think we are getting just one person enriched, why others keep going down...
This is basically my own opinion, so Nigerians and all lovers of wisdom, can I get your take on this issue?
My fellow compatriot. As much as you are correct. I may have to still disagree with you on some points. Overtime, Dangote has shown to be more business pasionate and expansion-oriented compared to his business contemporaries. Dangote seems to think outside the box compared to the rest of the top Nigerian business people.
Just take a look at the refinery Dangote is building which will change Nigeria forever, are we also going to blame market monopoly due to government favouritsim for this great feat?
freshest4live: The Nigerian economy is widely considered to be a mono-economy with an excessive dependence on revenue from the exploitation of hydrocarbon resources. It has been severely impacted by the recent global decline in the price of crude oil. This has caused the current administration to adopt more decisive policies to achieve a much-needed expansion of the economy. The 2016 budget has an increased focus on capital expenditure, particularly in the areas of infrastructure works, power and housing. There is significant interest in the development of Nigeria's transportation networks including road, rail, airports and sea ports. A deep sea port with railway project connecting Calabar with Port Harcourt and Onne Deep Sea Port, estimated to cost US$3.5 billion, is currently being constructed. [/b]The recently commissioned Abuja-Kaduna rail line is one of the first standard gauge railway modernisation projects undertaken in Nigeria while the Lagos State light rail project is expected to commence operations soon. The Lagos-Ibadan expressway, one of the largest road networks in Africa, the oldest expressway and busiest inter-state route in Nigeria, is also undergoing extensive rehabilitation. The power sector, which was privatised in 2013, continues to attract phenomenal interest from the private sector despite perceived challenges. The private sector has also shown an increased appetite for investment in real estate. Recent projects, including those listed below are all being developed through public private partnerships (PPPs). The continuing expansion of Nigeria's middle class has made investments in condominiums and shopping malls a popular choice for private capital. In the Medium Term Expenditure Framework 2016–2018, the Government listed the following projects for implementation: Mambila Hydro Electric Power Project (estimated to cost US$4.8 billion), which will deliver circa 3,000 MW of electricity to the National Grid. Railway modernisation coastal project covering Calabar to Port Harcourt and Onne Deep Sea Port (estimated to cost US$3.5 billion). The Federal Capital Territory's Mass Rail Transit Project (estimated to cost US$1.6 billion). The Lagos to Kano Rail Modernisation Project (of which the Lagos to Ibadan segment will be double track) (estimated to cost US$1.3 billion). The second Lagos to Kano Rail Modernisation Project (Kano to Kaduna segment will be double track) (estimated to cost US$1.1 billion). Major projects Recent infrastructure and construction projects in Nigeria include: The Abuja-Kaduna Railway Project. The Novare Lekki Mall. Abuja Centenary City, Abuja. Eko Atlantic City, Lagos. World Trade Centre, Abuja. Lekki Free Trade Zone, Lagos. Abuja Millennium Tower. The second Niger Bridge concession, in Anambra and Delta States. Lagos State Light Rail. The Azura-Edo 500 MW independent power project.
Woow, u see, these are the reasons why i have hope for Nigeria. Ongoing projects in Nigeria definitely should be more than $50 billion.
Nowenuse: Haha you want to learn swahili because of Alikiba?. Funny.
As for me, here are my Tanzanian crush artistes Butera knowless, Rosa ree n their mistress Vanessa mdee . Check out these musics by Butera knowless n Rosa ree. I think Rosa ree is currently the best female rapper in Africa right now. She is so cool! Most Tanzanian artistes look very beautiful and stylish just like Nigerians. I really wonder why Kenyans dont just fit in.
Yaaah, hoo i could learn swahili cos of Alikiba (winks) . Just kidding tho, i think i just love the flavour of the language when sung by Tanzanians.
~~~dang, i know Rosa ree, she is such a great rapper. N i just checked out the other lady, damn i love her music too. It seems like you watch Trace Mziki just like me?
Well, i kind of agree, Tanzanians seem very stylish compared to Kenyans buh in terms of looks, i can't really say, buh seems like Tanzanians look prettier, though i have not come across many Kenyan artistes so i cannot finalize my judgement.
Here is another Tanzanian artiste i admire so much. He killed this song with Mr eazi.
Anusiemgood: mehn,see well constructive ambiguous grammar. but I still want to draw your attention to the first paragraph of your comment,my dear sister the male child is still very much important till date,the male child are those that will carry to mantle of leadership of the family in some cases where the father stopped, the females will never to that,they will rather concentrate on the husband and children,so you one of the reasons why the male child is important..A man will always want his name to live after his death..
And how has this archaic mentality/culture of preserving the family name made Africa any better or more progressive?
homesteady: Saying Fathers have failed would be a far stretch! There might be one or two things that their fathers do that doesn't sit well with them, hence making that decision! And everybody wants a perfect partner!
If i were to be a lady, I also won't want to marry a man like my father, he shouts a lot and complains about almost every thing, my Mother should be declared the Patron Saint of Patience And like almost all African fathers, no public/open display of affection, simply put - Romantic!
Unfortunately, I also have that trait of nagging and shouting But I belong to this new age, hence I'm more modernised! I won't do it to my wife and kids! And I would show a lot of public /open display of affection to both my kids and wife, I would be Mr Romantic and I would establish a very close father to child bond.
Great! Influence of westernization n civilization Cc babasolution, mujtahida, jagugu88li
babasolution: actually our neglect of our ancestral african orientation is what left us at the racial bottom,western nations are degenerating slowly now,the asians embraced their ancestral orientation and are progressing,but africans just keep being dumb copy cats,patriachy is what brought the whiteman to be at the top,the whitemans culture was highly patriachal even more than africans read about the romans,they only started feminizing recently,now african women think their culture is so great,how women are easily deceived,now that they have removed patriachy they are slowly crumbling,africans only have to be more focused and visionary and we will conquer,but nt by copying the west
I cannot agree with you. Asian nations can and will never be ahead of Western nations, not till the end of this world. So many Asian nations are still poverty stricken n war ridden! Don't mistake Japan, South Korea, Hong kong and oil rich arab nations for the entire Asia.
Where has the destructive caste culture of the Indians taken them to? A country like India will never get rid of poverty forever unless they abolish the Hindu caste culture which condemns innocent people and their generations yet unborn to misfortune. A system that promotes discrimination. What about the tens of millions of women missing in India n China today? Female foetus are being aborted and female infants buried alive because these devilish cultures have condemned women to inferiority. Pls don't get me started!
Pls let us go back to our African orientations of idol worship, human sacrifice, killing of twins e.t.c . Perhaps they will help us become more progressive.
nwaimostate5: I opened this new moniker just to lay my frustrations as typical Nigeria youth who is tired of the whole system.
when I was in secondary school I was among the best in my class,is either I came first, second or third I never had any position below them. my parents were so happy and proud of me and vow to train me up to University education even if it will cost them starving just make sure I attend University because they were poor. After hearing this from them I became so happy and elevated (remember those feelings then that u will go to University, those feelings no be here) at that time I don't think about anything else except University, jamb,post utme , life in campus and any other thing relating to University. I wrote my first jamb in 2009, scored above 260, then score relatevely high post utme but I was denied admission in one of the federal University in Nigeria not because I didn't meet the cut off mark but because I don't have money to runs the admission,I lost the admission that year and became so frustrated and dejected. let Make it short, i have been writing jamb from 2009 till lastly in 2013 when I got admission to study marketing in one the state University in South East. I,m in my final year now studying marketing just few months for me to graduate. You may be wondering while i,m writing this,now let me tell you. I,m writing this first because ...... 1 I,m frustrated right now because after graduation I will start roaming the streets looking for job. 2 Had it been I use those time I spent in writing jamb and do business by now I would have been s millionaire by now. 3 Had it been my parents advice me to learn trade by now I would have been my own oga controlling millions. 4 I have to start afresh and enter the streets for hustling because there is no jobs out there, so why the certificate when I can read and write with secondary education.
Then, why did I spent all the years looking for certificate that I may not use tomorrow because streets pays more than salary. I remember how I hustle during holidays to meet up the needs in school thinking after graduation good jobs are there waiting for me. Should I said I wasted my time acquiring University education or what, somebody should answer me. I think I regret Ever going to University.
You are not alone in this predicament. Many other young Nigerians also think like you. We feel we would have been more succesful if all the years we wasted seeking for admission and going through the rigors of schooling was channeled into a trade or handwork earlier.
This is why we must now start to advice the youngsters just leaving secondary sch seeking for admission and so desperate about schooling, that they must learn to combine schooling with trading or a handskill which they would have equally developed by the time they graduate and just continue with it incase jobs do not come after graduation.
babasolution: women just believe westernization is a good thing,you people dont know its otherside,you just see the surface,wonen are so myopic
Westernization has it's cons of course buh the pros outnumber the cons. Would u rather have us continue to live n believe in all our ancestral african orientations that left us at the bottom of the racial ladder of this world?
Mujtahida: Before you hype up Western civilization as the framework for successful relationship just know that with the way Europe and America is going marriage as you know it will be outdated in the next 30-50 years time and you know why? Marriage as an institution has failed over there. Divorce rate is exceedingly high. Most people do not even marry there, they just have partners which they change at will. So don't use Western culture as the template for a good marriage.
As much as u are right, we are not saying the same thing. Being a good father does not necessarily have to be in a marriage setting does it?
jagugu88li: I dont like this ypur comment, not because its not true....based on your opinion which I obviously cant oppose, but my problem is that you settle the score on western culture which you dont belong to.
West belongs to the westerners....africa is yours. I think the peoblem might be that Africans are brought up in a way that denies freedom of expression and a subtle show of appreciation to wife may be denied/seen as weakness. Each region has its culture and norm of doing thing, sticking to that is wise.
Ma'am, mind you, I am not against your opinon but have you noticed what the western culture has turned Africa to. The attire, language use and repect wise? Terrible I say. ********************
YES YES YES
Awesome dude that one. Infact, I wish my husband to be exaclty like him . This young woman I am today was mostly brought up by a man. Hurray to him.
West belongs to the westerners? Yet u and i cannot do without their innovations. There is an adage that goes thus 'Love me n love my dog too', you can't claim to love me n hate my dog.
As long as we cannot do without western inventions, we won't be able to do without their cultural influence. It ain't my fault, buh the course of nature.
dominique: These responses further proves that Nigerian men are failing in their husbandly and fatherly duties. Most of them treat their wives like dirt and are too unnecessarily strict on their children. Yet they're quick to heap the blame of a failing marriage on the wife. In their old age, they start complaining bitterly of neglect from the people they treated so poorly. Who says there's no such thing as karma?
Ask the guys if they will want to marry women like their mums, 99% of them will say YES. Yet they will say it's the women that cause problems in marriages.
Most of these problems of African fathers n dislike by their offsprings for them is owed to the African culture where real men are to be seen as strictly unnafectionate, uncaring, polygamous n absolutely domineering. Any lack of these traits and u are ridiculed as a 'woman wrapper' by your fellow men.
Holly Majority of African fathers have failed cos most of them still believed in some archaic cultures of their african fore-fathers like polygamy, male superiority n strict female subserviency n inferiority.
Fathers of this modern age will definitely be better as westernization is becoming more pronounced and modern african men are becoming more monogamous, affectionate n female supportive, respecting women's rights more.
ioreth69: yea they all repent wen dey r old n frail.
Daaaa, the most annoying part! After causing so much problems, heartbreaks n troubles in their young age. They will now repent in their old age, carrying a big bible as if that was the way they always were. lol scammers
TayserMahiri, Holly i think u should just give it a break.
***I believe Kenya has beautiful estates buh the truth is that most or all of em are in Nairobi alone unlike in Nigeria where Abuja can give Lagos a run in number n beauty of estates n houses. Other Nigerian cities like PH, Ibadan, Kano, Enugu e.t.c also have some great estates n beautiful housing.
mtis: thanks just tell them to stop wasting their limited bundles ..now about the other thing i'll be back .am updating my collective fashion know how in the server
buh not so fast my kenyan buddy
***Nigeria has also got some very beautiful estates n houses. Lemme help my naija bros out
