Definitely,i'll teach my kids to have self respect and also love and respect others.I will not teach my daughter how to cook, just for her to showcase her skills in a boy's house.Rather, she should exhibit her cooking effizzy in her husband's house!

Wislet: Don't talk ignorantly.

Our mothers did not go living with or cooking daily in their husbands' houses. As soon as it was determined she was wife material (especially by the man's mother or sisters), a visit was paid to her parents' house and her dowry paid. She was made a WIFE without much ado... And not the warped mentality of the men of today who think a woman should sleep with them or reside in their house with them or be their cook. To prove WHAT? Is that the way to prove it? And after all that is done, what next? Isn't it the same men that will see a girl that refused to do all that/refused to give them the time of day and quickly dumped the 'maid' who they successfully deceived(as they are deceiving some girls here) and married the new one? And later you will hear funny tales of "my boyfriend dumped me after I did everything for him"...bla bla bla...

In this time and age, any lady that thinks doing all that will land her a husband is not being sincere with herself. You wash, sweep, cook for, sleep with a man who hasn't seen it fit to visit your father's house and put paid to your services for life, and you are not ashamed? Yet it is your 'mates' who did far less who keep sending you their wedding invitations every other week. And he keeps deceiving you with "When I am settled/financially 100% I'll go the next step".

My dear, if he says he's not ready yet, why don't you make him want to speed it up and work harder so he can come to your place faster? If you wait AT YOUR FATHER's HOUSE he will be hungry enough for you to want to pay your bride price quicker before he loses you. Won't that result to working harder? Then you will have value in his eyes. Sleeping with him everyday, cooking, washing, etc are all a WIFE's duties. If you are doing all those for him, why would he remember you aren't his wife yet? Why would he want to work hard for you?

There is a law governing everything in this life. As long as you keep breaking the rules for any, the more its fulfilment eludes you.
(That is why your churches keep filling up with husband seekers, don't you think?)

Not doing all those things will not make him think you aren't wife material. But, should he think you aren't 'serious' because you don't sleep with him etc, please dust your clothes and move on! He is the one who is not husband material. When your man comes, from his character and attitude toward you, you will offer a thanksgiving to God for being wise enough to run away from that one you almost made the mistake of your life with.

Do not deceive yourself, and do not be deceived.

You can get more wisdom from your elderly mothers (Elderly because even some young mothers of today deceive their children to pursue men to their detriment).
Beautifully said! kiss

Now,look at this scenerio, and understand where i'm coming from......
While serving,i got into a relationship with a guy.He invited me over to his place a couple of times and i went.On a particular day i went over,he bought some stuff for soup and asked me to prepare egusi soup.I was like,WTF?? You havn't bothered to know me better,u're not even bothered abt my likes and dislikes,u don dey send me errand! He was pissed and so was i.I sha ended the relationship immediately after my service year b'cos i realised that the guy is the type to take advantage of kindness.

.....and are u also saying that a lady who goes to her BF's house to cook for him and clean is likely to get married before age 30? Na wa ooo. The keyword here is ''limit''.Do nt overdo it!
Ask yourself, why is it that guys that are too nice and gentle have their hearts broken most times? Overloving na sin ooo! grin

Get rid of that mentality! My guy does not do the duty of a husband.I have a good job,so money aint my P. All i require of him is his love and faithfulness.I DO NOT need his money! Most guys have the mentality that nigerian ladies are cheap....i'm really confused.I guess its because i'm surrounded by females with good careers and financial stability.
That's where I have a problem with you, why and how does domestic chores which by common sense you should already be used to ,be a problem you'd even relate with Slavery.. ?

You sound confused!
A man hasn't paid your bride price, but u do everything a wife should do....now what should we call that?
Even if a lady is used to household chores in her father's house, she should know her limits in her boyfriend's house.

KPboy: Good day ladies and gentlemen. Am commenting on this kind of social discuss forum for the first time. This is because, having read through the thread, I find it imperative to clear the air.
Many persons have aired their views which epitomizes their definition of 'love' and 'relationship'. Each is entiled to their views and they were quite interesting to say the least. This essentially should not be an issue for the following reason;
1. If cooking for your boyfriend does not gaurantee marriage or makes him disrespect you. But is it REALLY NOT cooking for him that guarantees marriage or would make him regard you? Well the answer is not readily deciphable!
2. If cooking for your 'ideal man' is fine by you and you have been meeting the 'wrong guys', does it make cooking for 'ANY MAN' wrong? Of course, any man may make your ideal man, which only trial and Gods favour may bring. And so, one does not stop doing what she feels right because she dealt with the worng one.
And so I tell you solemnly, the PRINCIPLE is fairly constant, but there are NO hard and fast RULES.
The principle is: Do not give in too much while the other party gives in nothing if he's in capacity(Each party perception of this 'principle' is highly subjective).
For the rule of cooking or not cooking, its highly misleading, vague and inconclusive. It depends on a lot other factors like; COHABITING TOGETHER, COMMITMENT LEVEL(DATING STAGE), PERSONAL ATTRIBUTE and "PERCEPTION OF WHAT IS IDEAL".
And so each to what works for her...for the rule is circumstantial and hence forms no BASIS for arguement nor cousel.
I must commend all contributions so far especially those that have highligted a part of what I have said. These is my humble opinion. Thank you.
Thank u too. smiley

I think there is nothing wrong with a lady cooking for her guy once in a while. If my guy comes to my place,i'll definitely cook for him.But slaving in a guy's house is a no no.If u want to test culinary skills,go to her house and taste her meal.If she comes to ur house,do not make it seem like its her ''job''.Some babes even go as far as cleaning the house....shoooo! But cooking consistently seems too much ,IMHO!

Mujah1deen: YOU don't cook ,another girl will be happy and glad to take your place and cook for him. Anyway I'm against dating, courtship etc .a girl has nothing to in a male house if she's not his wife or relative .period
Like seriously?? You are against courtship? So how do u get to know the person properly?
