After the removal of subsidy which lead to a rise in inflation, remote workers come next as the major contributor to rents in Lagos. They earn in USD, so they out-bid naira earners who form the majority of would-be tenants in Lagos.

One of the beliefs presented to us in our youth was that traditional rulers, like the kings, possess significant spiritual power and can be protected from danger by their spiritual powers.

There was a claim then that these kings can vanish when in danger. Also, there was one belief that gun bullets cannot penetrate their bodies.

However, in recent times, there have been many cases of kidnappers abducting traditional rulers, and these so-called powerful kings or traditional rulers do not engage in any spiritual resistance against the kidnappers. Instead, they resort to paying ransoms to secure their release.
If the British could capture and imprison them, then kidnappers can do the same. It means there is a limit to the efficacy or potency of juju when faced with modern power/technology.

I tire o!
I have seen the worst of revile men.
Ok, at Idumota park or somewhere around that axis back then in Lagos, we were in the park waiting for the bus to be loaded when this couple entered but thinking the back of the driver seat will be too hot the lady left her guy to join my seat that was behind them. The boyfriend commanded her to join him at the front which she reluctantly did. On getting to the front this man beat the hell out of her with multiple slaps and she did not utter a word.

I felt like taking a knife through his throat. A lot of men that are not well brought up are parading the street looking for a victim to deceive with a wedding ring and some of these women are getting wiser. Once they meet a man they can quickly tell if he is a tyrant or something worse.

Some women prefer to date a sound married guy than a stupid single guy hence some will say "the best guys are already taken" this is my 10th year in marriage and I have had more than ten marriage proposals.

A lot of men are loosing it. No training!

The question is do men know what they want? Are you what the woman want? Lol! It is deep!
Women are earning as much as men, and in some cases, more than men. So, things are changing, and it is not even a Nigerian thing, but a global phenomenon. A growing number of women now prefer to be alone or adopt newer dating/mating concepts than date a man if it does not make sense to them.

The ability of women to earn their own money and control if they can have children and how many has changed the relationship landscape.

When a woman say she will be honoured if you will take her as a second wife. What will you do? I simply just date if I can and some I still keep till date. Not exes!
Polygamy actually benefits women in this case. The side chic model benefits men too. Maybe we will soon have a growing number of non-Christian women advocating for polygamy in the coming years. That would be interesting to note.

My neighbor who is a bachelor will patronize buka all year round if there is no woman to cook for him or do his laundry and he thinks all a woman wants is marriage. Fat lie! He gets angry that a married guy is pulling creamy girls that he desires for marriage but marriage does not come like that.
Maybe because, on average, married men spend more on single ladies than bachelors do. I agree that he has to know how to cook and clean his clothes in the current dispensation. But I think the spending power and will of married men push bachelors out of the dating scene.

I cannot blame Oshiomole. Too many Nigerian men have been timid regarding sex because it has been demonised over time, largely due to religion and cultural practices. The solution is to encourage young men to have enough sex in their teens and early twenties so they don't become the next Oshiomole and even tech bros who sign off equity because of the vagina. At the same time, the virgin purity culture would have to go. Anything else would lead to more young men aiming/wishing to be the next Oshiomole. The average Nigerian man will do worse than Oshiomole. We have so many recent examples to glean from.

I don't think Southern African and Caribbean men behave like our men when it comes to sex because they have had enough as lads.

So when ignorant people, especially on TwitterNG, say Benin Republic or Burkina Faso are better off than Nigeria, disregard their noise.

And to remember that Anglophone African countries are the wealthiest across the continent. One imagines the multidimensional poverty across Francophone nations.
BusinessRe: Reasons Lagosians Should Move Their Businesses To Apapa by Gerrard59(m): 6:07am On Feb 05
Fweezy:
The negatives of this Apapa of a place are far more than the positives stated here as good reason to move businesses down to Apapa most of which i have personally witnessed firsthand during my stay around that neighborhood.

First problem is location. Apapa is not centrally but marginally located at a very extreme corner of Lagos state, bordered by the Lagoon and sea ports. Chances of growth and expansion are very slim and land mass is small. The whole place is filled up and choked up.

Secondly is traffic. You dont want to be caught dead in the zone when traffic is at its worst with trailers, tankers, trucks and all manner of heavy duty vehicles plying the major roads at rush hour. The traffic situation is sometimes caused and most times compounded by the bad state of the roads. Those who recall can tell you the story of the legendary traffic which went on record a few years back during a time of fuel scarcity/tanker drivers' strike originating from the ports at Apapa passing thru four LCDAs all the way down to the by-pass overhead bridge at Oshodi. A nightmare that went on for many days on end until the then governor had to step in. Whether its oil tankers supplying imported fuel passing through Apapa or containers moving goods to various destinations around the state, the result is always the same. Traffic jamz like no other.

Thirdly the security situation in spite of the heavy presence of armed security personnel and their barracks. Too many unscrouplous elements are seen and allowed to roam about freely in every corner of the place waiting for and instigating all manner of mishaps in order cause mayhem and loot shops at the slightest opportunity. There are boys who run joints and even trade in the hard stuff just on the other side of the fence of an army barracks at Mobil road. How is this good for business?

Fourthly, the surrounding environment is filthy and messed up as a result. You dont need to wonder so much why Ijora-badia which is quite close to Apapa is world famous for its trash heaps and ranks dirtiest environment in the state. How is this kind of publicity good for business?
Wow!

The reviews are something else. So anything aside from a warehouse is a no no shocked shocked shocked

When it rains, there are no drainages.
The house are old, dilapidated and crumbling.
Apapa goes to bed at night except the ubiquitous pololo joints.

Are there spending populace in APAPA? Ask Shoprite why the APAPA franchise is such a huge failure.

A seven year old post. I wonder how much a one bedroom would costs in Apapa at the moment. But if Apapa is this bad, why are businesses and people still there? It means something attracts them there. Port activities.

It seems like a place to have a warehouse, but not live.

Bottom line is a lot of people don't even know what they want.
Honestly, these days, I see more marriage tips and stories from men than women. Does it mean men need marriage more than women? If marriage benefits women more than men, why are our men always threatening the women with old age and whatnot? Are they not supposed to die old and single?

The biggest beneficiaries should be at the forefront of campaigning for marriages, not those who lose the most.

I wanted to seek your thoughts on the latest moves by the US and its allies in aggressively diversifying its sources and refining of rare earth minerals. Other commentators are welcome as well.

In Pakistan, the US is funding the extraction of those minerals for export. Rubio will host a meeting of allied countries and mineral rich nations (many from our continent, too). Here: https://www.aspistrategist.org.au/just-what-we-need-us-calls-key-countries-together-on-critical-minerals/
Here, the EU aims to partner with the US on critical minerals so as to by-pass the dependence on China: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2026-02-03/eu-to-offer-us-critical-minerals-partnership-to-counter-china

Na why I no dey fazed with the so-called division between the US and the EU. They are one and together. Trump's "mean tweets" mean nothing in the fight against China. In Vietnam, leaders are preparing for a war with the US because they fear being used to counter China s Ukraine was against Russia.

In DRC, the govt ordered a miner to sell hitherto shipped copper to China to the US. I think the mining firm is even Chinese. And we know the sudden bromance between its president and Trump. The US is now buddies with Mongolia and Cambodia.

So, the race to break China's dominance in sourcing and refining is on.

How should or would the Chinese react? If the US-led West succeeds (long time though since the latest refining technologies were developed and perfected by the Chinese, who also have the intellect), how would China respond to coordinated attacks and sanctions, since that retaliating option has been reduced?

They are ignorant because Namibians would have the backing of South Africans, but Nigerians, being divisive in nature (an Igbo person asked that ignorant question) will not be able to defend themselves. The same division showed itself when Ronu activists told South Africans that Igbos are the major perpetrators of atrocities in their country. The South Africans took note, but grouped everyone as the same.

If the "manager" saves his salary of 200k for two years without touching a kobo, he still won't be able to afford the least vehicle in that picture.
That is where credit financing comes in. The manager is not supposed to pay everything with cash, nor is he supposed to start eyeing big big cars when him money no reach. It is also why the public transport system has to be affordable, clean, efficient, safe and punctual so owning a car becomes a choice, not a necessity.

Everyone cannot own a car in a society, and everyone isn't supposed to start car ownership with dem big big motors.

It has to do mainly with the earning power of the man.
Tbh, i like stay-at-home mums.
SAHMs provide immense value to society as they are the best people to take care of their children, rather than outsourcing that work to private firms in the name of day-care centres. Historically, most women were SAHMs as the men worked outside. In return, the women cared for the households while the men brought up the spoils. I have read commentary upon commentary in the Financial Times of high-earning men, mostly White men, who work in commodities trading, private equity, oil and gas, elite law firms, etc., remarking how their wives are SAHMs and both parties like the arrangements. A significant proportion actually like it. Women no too like stress. Here in Japan, most relegate their corporate life to the homefront and take up lesser jobs while the men slug it in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya. Although as the cost of living shot up, the women had to start taking jobs with higher salaries.

However, things have changed as women have entered the workforce, thus competing for the same spoils as men. It is why I support men who demand or request their wives financially contribute to the household. Some women, after seeing the struggles in the corporate space, later opt to be SAHMs, especially if their husbands are financially comfortable.

But as women have tasted freedom and financial independence, it is hard to let go, and even men will do the same. So, we have many women still wishing to work rather than solely depending on their husbands because the truth is: he who pays the piper dictates the tune. The man fit change as some of these women's fathers did to their mothers.

They always have more time for the family - kids and hubby and fresh. Not stressed out.
Most wives in Lekki at stay-at-home mums or just doing one minor stress-free biz just to keep them slightly busy.
My wife is a stay-at-home mum and i give her with the 2 kids 500k per month for upkeep excluding me and i still have more than enough for myself.
I am not surprised about Lekki. Growing up in PH, there were tales and realities of such women whose husbands work in the oil industry. How much you wan pay oil worker wife as salary? To be fair though, such women should not even be in the workforce because their productivity levels will be low and hinder the company's output.

The question now is, how many men even earn the feeding money in a month?
How many house hold ( both husband and wife working) earn 500k a month?
Even if my wife is working or a woman decides to work, how many of them are even going to earn 150k to 200k a month to make a tangible contribution to the man?
I have seen drivers, plumbers, carpenters and mechanics whose wives are SAHMs. These men believe they have enough to cater for the households and don't want their wives to "stress themselves", especially when they, as men, know how it is for most women in the labour market and corporate world.

The solution, as usual, to co-opt this SAHMs model is to have a few children, except the men are unbelievably liquid. Honestly, every time I think about it, nothing beats having a few children in today's world.

Premium peace Be Unto You
Nb: Everything I'll be typing here is learnt from you.
True, but these are rich people you are talking about. Life of a man isn't easy, hence you shouldn't have more than two kids. This is because as a man you have your life to live and enjoy. Now imagine getting married to someone whose life solely depends on you. If you have the money fine, but don't get married to a liability all in the name of "I'm a man". There's a reason why your wife is called your partner.
While you have strong points, to these men, they believe their wives should not stress themselves for "peanuts" when they have more than enough. As I grow older, I realise there is a certain kind of money/wealth a man would have that he would rather have a SAHM on paid salary than have her toiling outside. Obviously, as Mr Emmadoe.t stated, these women engage in simple businesses or even online work just to keep themselves busy and mentally active. But as long as the man and the woman are in agreement and it works for them, who else should say otherwise?

Marriage no get manual. People should do what works best for them. It is that having many children affects most families, even the very wealthy. It is why I focus on that aspect.

I wish I could give this comment a double like!

I’m glad you didn’t end this with bitterness, because honestly, what you wrote already shows balance. Yes, it’s valid to feel frustrated when expectations don’t align, especially after discussions before marriage. That part shouldn’t be brushed aside.
But I really respect your resolve to focus on the positives. The things many people downplay today, like cooking daily, running the home, raising children properly, being emotionally steady...are not small work. They are real labour, and they quietly hold a family together. If those things collapse, no amount of money or ambition can easily fix it.
Not every contribution shows up as a payslip. Some show up as peace of mind, stable children, and a home that allows the man to go out and fight life’s battles without worrying about chaos behind him. From what you described, she has clearly played a role in your upward trajectory, whether spiritual or not.
I think your conclusion is wise. Manage the accounts, lead your family with what you have, and keep choosing gratitude over resentment. That mindset alone already puts you ahead of many.
I would to copy that! grin

Thank you.

And I agree with the entire post.
