dododawa1:After the removal of subsidy which lead to a rise in inflation, remote workers come next as the major contributor to rents in Lagos. They earn in USD, so they out-bid naira earners who form the majority of would-be tenants in Lagos. |
kernniejay:But seriously, why should I joke with my money? Aren't you supposed to pay for what you use? |
Riversides2003:lol The British did worse. What happened? |
Ashirioluwa:If the British could capture and imprison them, then kidnappers can do the same. It means there is a limit to the efficacy or potency of juju when faced with modern power/technology. |
Felimax:Women are earning as much as men, and in some cases, more than men. So, things are changing, and it is not even a Nigerian thing, but a global phenomenon. A growing number of women now prefer to be alone or adopt newer dating/mating concepts than date a man if it does not make sense to them. The ability of women to earn their own money and control if they can have children and how many has changed the relationship landscape. When a woman say she will be honoured if you will take her as a second wife. What will you do? I simply just date if I can and some I still keep till date. Not exes!Polygamy actually benefits women in this case. The side chic model benefits men too. Maybe we will soon have a growing number of non-Christian women advocating for polygamy in the coming years. That would be interesting to note. My neighbor who is a bachelor will patronize buka all year round if there is no woman to cook for him or do his laundry and he thinks all a woman wants is marriage. Fat lie! He gets angry that a married guy is pulling creamy girls that he desires for marriage but marriage does not come like that.Maybe because, on average, married men spend more on single ladies than bachelors do. I agree that he has to know how to cook and clean his clothes in the current dispensation. But I think the spending power and will of married men push bachelors out of the dating scene. |
folake4u:I cannot blame Oshiomole. Too many Nigerian men have been timid regarding sex because it has been demonised over time, largely due to religion and cultural practices. The solution is to encourage young men to have enough sex in their teens and early twenties so they don't become the next Oshiomole and even tech bros who sign off equity because of the vagina. At the same time, the virgin purity culture would have to go. Anything else would lead to more young men aiming/wishing to be the next Oshiomole. The average Nigerian man will do worse than Oshiomole. We have so many recent examples to glean from. I don't think Southern African and Caribbean men behave like our men when it comes to sex because they have had enough as lads. |
Hightablevoice2:You are right with the rest of your post, but the bold is not entirely true in Ghana. As for Namibia, at a point a few years ago, it was in the top three African countries with the highest unemployment rate. |
AbujaLagos:That Nigeria, with all its issues, is far better than every other country in West Africa. We fail woefully on safety though. |
ZACHIE:Sorry, but if the infrastructure hasn't changed much, but roads have been fixed, what more is needed? It seems the exodus was so much that people fled. How much for a standard one bedroom apartment? What's the electricity situation within the area? |
chiefolododo:Not so, please. Every statement is subject to public scrutiny once it's made public. She's not infallible. |
Tonto Dike is a troublesome woman. There are women like her all over the society. It's in your best interests as a man to avoid them in all totality. Just good morning and bye bye. Tonto's history is littered all over the Internet and she's not the first woman to be jilted or disappointed by her ex-husband. Compared to her peers, she's way terrible! |
Tunaji:I read someone remarked how he and others watched a movie in Maryland Mall, Ikeja, under heat and everyone was sweating. ![]() At the bold, people have gotten poorer since 2015. Buhari was a terrible disaster! |
Nigeria is the wealthiest country in West Africa. Ghana and maybe Ivory Coast come next. I'm just surprised that the Abidjan-Paris route is more profitable than Lagos-London or Abuja-London. So when ignorant people, especially on TwitterNG, say Benin Republic or Burkina Faso are better off than Nigeria, disregard their noise. And to remember that Anglophone African countries are the wealthiest across the continent. One imagines the multidimensional poverty across Francophone nations. |
Fweezy:Wow! The reviews are something else. So anything aside from a warehouse is a no no |
ZACHIE:A seven year old post. I wonder how much a one bedroom would costs in Apapa at the moment. But if Apapa is this bad, why are businesses and people still there? It means something attracts them there. Port activities. It seems like a place to have a warehouse, but not live. |
Felimax:Honestly, these days, I see more marriage tips and stories from men than women. Does it mean men need marriage more than women? If marriage benefits women more than men, why are our men always threatening the women with old age and whatnot? Are they not supposed to die old and single? The biggest beneficiaries should be at the forefront of campaigning for marriages, not those who lose the most. |
LordAdam16: I wanted to seek your thoughts on the latest moves by the US and its allies in aggressively diversifying its sources and refining of rare earth minerals. Other commentators are welcome as well. You have here: https://www.afr.com/world/north-america/us-pressures-allies-to-break-china-s-hold-on-rare-earths-20260130-p5ny6q and here: https://archive.md/2026.02.03-013023/https://www.ft.com/content/0a27adbc-1c8b-4361-9c57-c9f7f53f49d3 (US to launch $12BN fund for critical minerals) and recently a French minister visited Malaysia to assess the rare earth refinery there. In Pakistan, the US is funding the extraction of those minerals for export. Rubio will host a meeting of allied countries and mineral rich nations (many from our continent, too). Here: https://www.aspistrategist.org.au/just-what-we-need-us-calls-key-countries-together-on-critical-minerals/ Here, the EU aims to partner with the US on critical minerals so as to by-pass the dependence on China: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2026-02-03/eu-to-offer-us-critical-minerals-partnership-to-counter-china Na why I no dey fazed with the so-called division between the US and the EU. They are one and together. Trump's "mean tweets" mean nothing in the fight against China. In Vietnam, leaders are preparing for a war with the US because they fear being used to counter China s Ukraine was against Russia. In DRC, the govt ordered a miner to sell hitherto shipped copper to China to the US. I think the mining firm is even Chinese. And we know the sudden bromance between its president and Trump. The US is now buddies with Mongolia and Cambodia. So, the race to break China's dominance in sourcing and refining is on. How should or would the Chinese react? If the US-led West succeeds (long time though since the latest refining technologies were developed and perfected by the Chinese, who also have the intellect), how would China respond to coordinated attacks and sanctions, since that retaliating option has been reduced? |
Ishilove:I am glad you added an apostrophe in innocently. Too many netizen Nigerians are arrogant, ignorant and as citizens, we are too poor to have such loud opinions. They are ignorant because Namibians would have the backing of South Africans, but Nigerians, being divisive in nature (an Igbo person asked that ignorant question) will not be able to defend themselves. The same division showed itself when Ronu activists told South Africans that Igbos are the major perpetrators of atrocities in their country. The South Africans took note, but grouped everyone as the same. Our people never learn, and it is annoying that we have too many ignorant and arrogant Igbo netizens who don't read the room, especially in this Agbado administration. |
Kaycee54321:That is where credit financing comes in. The manager is not supposed to pay everything with cash, nor is he supposed to start eyeing big big cars when him money no reach. It is also why the public transport system has to be affordable, clean, efficient, safe and punctual so owning a car becomes a choice, not a necessity. Everyone cannot own a car in a society, and everyone isn't supposed to start car ownership with dem big big motors. |
emmaodet:SAHMs provide immense value to society as they are the best people to take care of their children, rather than outsourcing that work to private firms in the name of day-care centres. Historically, most women were SAHMs as the men worked outside. In return, the women cared for the households while the men brought up the spoils. I have read commentary upon commentary in the Financial Times of high-earning men, mostly White men, who work in commodities trading, private equity, oil and gas, elite law firms, etc., remarking how their wives are SAHMs and both parties like the arrangements. A significant proportion actually like it. Women no too like stress. Here in Japan, most relegate their corporate life to the homefront and take up lesser jobs while the men slug it in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya. Although as the cost of living shot up, the women had to start taking jobs with higher salaries. However, things have changed as women have entered the workforce, thus competing for the same spoils as men. It is why I support men who demand or request their wives financially contribute to the household. Some women, after seeing the struggles in the corporate space, later opt to be SAHMs, especially if their husbands are financially comfortable. But as women have tasted freedom and financial independence, it is hard to let go, and even men will do the same. So, we have many women still wishing to work rather than solely depending on their husbands because the truth is: he who pays the piper dictates the tune. The man fit change as some of these women's fathers did to their mothers. They always have more time for the family - kids and hubby and fresh. Not stressed out.I am not surprised about Lekki. Growing up in PH, there were tales and realities of such women whose husbands work in the oil industry. How much you wan pay oil worker wife as salary? To be fair though, such women should not even be in the workforce because their productivity levels will be low and hinder the company's output. The question now is, how many men even earn the feeding money in a month?I have seen drivers, plumbers, carpenters and mechanics whose wives are SAHMs. These men believe they have enough to cater for the households and don't want their wives to "stress themselves", especially when they, as men, know how it is for most women in the labour market and corporate world. The solution, as usual, to co-opt this SAHMs model is to have a few children, except the men are unbelievably liquid. Honestly, every time I think about it, nothing beats having a few children in today's world. |
Premiumbuy:While you have strong points, to these men, they believe their wives should not stress themselves for "peanuts" when they have more than enough. As I grow older, I realise there is a certain kind of money/wealth a man would have that he would rather have a SAHM on paid salary than have her toiling outside. Obviously, as Mr Emmadoe.t stated, these women engage in simple businesses or even online work just to keep themselves busy and mentally active. But as long as the man and the woman are in agreement and it works for them, who else should say otherwise? Marriage no get manual. People should do what works best for them. It is that having many children affects most families, even the very wealthy. It is why I focus on that aspect. |
Pre-Buhari, there was at least one graduate trainee recruitment ad on the front page. Buhari entered and boom! They disappeared! The Internet japa frenzy kicked off with Canada and even Germany became an option for young Nigerians. Buhari was a disaster! The same man Tinubu's supporters praised to high heavens 🙄 |
delpee:Lol Oil workers' wives in the US are largely sit-at-home moms. All those Republican welders who work in the industry have SAHMs as wives. Yet they are very successful and earn a lot of money. ![]() |
Life lessons and human psychology have taught me that sit-at-home moms are very important to the society. Obviously, this works best when the husband is up and doing. A very interesting thread. Wouldn't you love Nairaland? ![]() |
Jangbajantis:I would to copy that! ![]() Thank you. And I agree with the entire post. |
blackbriar:Please next time when you want to quote such a stoopid post about a question that has been answered countless times, please edit my username. Thank you. |
plessis:How is particle physics and electronics for you to say it works like juju? I know physics has the sub-field called metaphysics. |
GanagiBitrus:Perfect case for juju. Many have narrated how odeshi works. So, why has it not been translated into bullet proofs for individuals and cars? Why does it have limitations when faced with powerful guns unlike conventional bullet proofs? |
More than half of the stories on Joro's page are fake. Everything about that dude is fake and exaggerated. But if juju works, how about we find ways to use it for our societal benefit rather than negativity? |
