The Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom WIke, has said that the Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara, surrounded himself with those who wanted to be governor of the state.

Wike made the revelation while speaking at a grand reception in his honour by the Kalabari people of the state on Saturday.

According to him, the people advising Fubara do not mean well to him and want him to vacate the seat for them.

He mentioned the Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, who is one of the people who started the face-off between him and his successor, leading the state into crisis.

The minister said, “The problem started when Danagogo, the Secretary to the government, used his elder brother, who is a justice, to use an exparte order to justify that 27 members of the Rivers Assembly have defected. Unnoticed. He also used the same order to say that the state governor can present the budget to three or four lawmakers.

“Look at Danagogo, who wanted to be governor. He was so pained that he was not given the ticket; he was the one following the governor, and he (Fubara) did not know. He will lead you (Fubara) to hellfire.

“You (Fubara) surrounded yourself with people who wanted to be governor, whom I said ‘no’, these people don’t mean well for Rivers State.’ They are the ones surrounding you, giving you advice. Do you think you will succeed? They will give bad advice, and look at what bad advice is doing to you. You are already down 2-0, and there’s more to come. They come there and abuse me and you are happy; you don’t know it is you they want to destroy.”

According to the Deputy Chief Whip, other lawmakers too would narrate to the committee what they know regarding the alleged case of sexual harassment levelled against Akpabio by Natasha.

“All the parties involved would appear before the Committee, including the Senate President. He would come and testify and his testimony would be recorded, likewise other senators,” he stated.

Natasha, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had on February 28 alleged that the incident occurred in December 2023 when she and her husband visited Akpabio’s residence in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State.

She alleged that during the visit, the Senate President held her hand, led her around his house, and then made inappropriate advances towards her, even in her husband’s presence.

But Nwebonyi, who represents Ebonyi North, accused his colleague of diverting attention, adding that the upper chamber is not perturbed by the allegation.

“In criminal prosecution, there is what we call prima facie evidence, that is evidence on the surface. If there is no prima facie evidence, then there is no case.

“She knows quite alright that what she is saying is to divert attention but we are not disturbed because we know the truth.

“On the alleged date of the incident, so many senators were there. I am one of the star witnesses, I will come and tell the world what I saw,” he added.

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Adewole Adebayo, has vowed to run for the number seat in the country in the 2027 elections.

He said, “Let us understand something. I don’t worry about that; everybody who is coming in knows I will run in 2027.

“Any coward who will feel threatened by people coming to his party can not be president.”

Adewole’s comment follows the defection of the immediate past Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, to the party on Monday.

Following his defection, El-Rufai has been making political moves to woo some politicians to the SDP.

Adebayo also described El-Rufai as a hard-working and patriotic Nigerian, adding that the ex-governor is very effective in an area where there are no effective people in government.

He said, “The reason why I welcome El-Rufai to my party is that I see him as a patriotic Nigerian, hard working, very effective in an area where we don’t have effective people in government, that’s all.”

He expressed confidence that he would be the party’s presidential candidate in 2027 regardless of the political stature of politicians defecting to the party.

The politician said he is not afraid or threatened by the defectors, adding that every party member knows he will contest again.

PoliticsBig Men With Private Jet Will Soon Hear From Us- Keyamo Hints On Aviation Reform by Giftimoni(op): 7:25am On Mar 14, 2025

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doK5pkvIHmg

Speaking at the 2025 ministerial press briefing, Keyamo disclosed that a task force set up under his administration discovered extensive abuse of private jet licenses, leading to massive revenue losses for the country.

“We inherited a major problem when we assumed office, and we have decided to tackle it head-on: the illegal use of private jets for unauthorized charter operations. These private jets have been operating largely unchecked, doing whatever they like. Beyond that, they also deny the federal government substantial revenue,” Keyamo stated.

The minister emphasized that this illegal practice has persisted for nearly 50 years, with many influential figures advising him against addressing the issue.

“When I came into office, people told me, ‘Minister, don’t bother yourself with this. These are the big men who own Nigeria; you cannot tackle them. Just forget about it.’ But I refused,” he revealed.

Keyamo explained that the federal government has lost approximately ₦100 billion in revenue over the past decade due to illegal charter operations.

He detailed how private jet owners evade higher fees by obtaining Private Non-Commercial Flight (PNCF) licenses—which are meant for personal or corporate use—while secretly using their aircraft for commercial charter services.

“These licenses come with significantly different fees. The PNCF license is much cheaper because it is meant for private use—flying company directors, family members, or personal business trips. But if you want to operate commercial flights carrying passengers for a fee, you must obtain a different, more expensive license,” he explained.

Beyond financial losses, Keyamo highlighted the grave security risks posed by these unregulated private jet operations.

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has taken a swipe at President Bola Tinubu, sarcastically praising him for fulfilling his promise to continue where former President Muhammadu Buhari left off.

Speaking during a visit to Governor Bala Mohammed in Bauchi on Thursday, Obi criticized the current administration’s handling of the economy, stating that Nigeria must now move beyond ethnic and religious politics to focus on competence and capacity.

“Tinubu promised to continue where Buhari stopped. If you look at it, Buhari left the dollar at about N400, today it is about N1,500. Rice was about N40,000, it is now over N100,000. Fuel was about N300, it is now over N1,000. I can go on and on—everything has doubled and tripled. So, he has done exactly as he promised,” Obi remarked.

Obi contrasted Nigeria’s economic performance with that of Indonesia, citing how their government transformed the country’s economy over the past decade.

“In Indonesia, a president was sworn in about the same time as another one in Nigeria. Ten years later, Indonesia moved their GDP from $800 billion to $1.3 trillion, and their per capita income from $3,000 to $5,000.

Here in Nigeria, our GDP fell from $500 billion to $200 billion, and per capita income dropped from $3,500 to below $2,000—that is the difference,”* he explained.

He further emphasized the need to revive Nigeria’s industries, invest in education and healthcare, and steer the nation towards productive governance.

Obi stated that his meeting with Governor Bala Mohammed was part of a broader discussion on addressing the country’s challenges.

“We have just started discussions. You can’t consummate a marriage in one day. But the most important thing is that our thoughts are centered on issues that affect the ordinary Nigerian.

We want a Nigeria where a child of nobody can become somebody. We will eliminate the elite conspiracy that uses tribalism and religion to divide the people. We have voted for tribe and religion before; now, we must vote for competence and capacity,”* Obi declared.

PoliticsOpposition Lawmakers Allege Plot To Disrupt Rivers LG Elections by Giftimoni(op): 7:30am On Mar 13, 2025
A coalition of opposition lawmakers has raised the alarm over an alleged plot by pro-Wike lawmakers to destabilise the upcoming local government elections in Rivers State through illegal legislative maneuvers and court orders.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the leader of the group, Rep. Ikenga Ugochinyere (PDP – Imo State), alleged that some lawmakers loyal to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, were making desperate moves to frustrate the conduct of the elections and prevent the implementation of the 2025 Rivers State budget, despite the Supreme Court’s directive.

According to Ugochinyere, the pro-Wike lawmakers are working to amend the Local Government Administration Law to pave the way for former local government chairmen—whose tenure has expired—to return to office.

“Their plan is to frustrate the election so that these former LGA chairmen, whose tenure is over, can come back. But we assure the people of Rivers State that the election will hold as scheduled by the electoral body. No illegal amendment will stop the process.”

He also accused them of seeking a court injunction to halt the elections, similar to previous legal maneuvers used to sabotage democratic processes in the state.

Ugochinyere further alleged that the lawmakers were deliberately avoiding the 2025 budget presentation in a bid to cripple governance in Rivers State.

“The Governor reached out to the House of Assembly members to come for a meeting, something Wike himself would never do. But they boycotted the meeting and refused to come. The Governor even called the Speaker multiple times, but he refused to answer. This shows their real agenda—anarchy and suffering for Rivers people.”

Despite these challenges, he commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his humility and compliance with the Supreme Court judgment, stating that the Governor had acted in good faith by reaching out to the Assembly members and ensuring governance continued despite the provocation and betrayal of the peace accord.

The lawmakers accused Wike of seeking control over Rivers State at all costs, rather than prioritizing peace and development.

“Wike’s interest is not about peace or progress; it is about control. Since he is no longer in charge of the state, he wants nothing done. Every crisis, from the local government elections to the Assembly impasse, is part of his strategy to hold the state hostage.”

The FCT minister condemned the alleged politicisation of traditional institutions, warning against interference with government projects.

“The traditional rulers are playing some politics; you can’t do that with me. We respect traditional institutions, but you can’t sabotage our work,” he asserted.

Addressing concerns about relocation of the affected persons, the Minister argued that building new houses is only justified when an entire community is displaced, not when a project affects a limited number of homes.

“If we are relocating a community, then we can go and build houses for them, not just 20 or 50 houses for a road corridor. Sometimes, it doesn’t take all the houses, maybe just some part of it. Where does that happen anywhere in the world?” he questioned.

He said that despite the discussions, certain structures remain, affecting the project’s progress.

“I have visited this site more than four times and have engaged with community leaders and their chiefs. It is crucial for them to cooperate with the government so that CGC, our contractor, can complete this road by May,” Wike said.

However, while speaking on the media chat, Barr Wike criticised attempts to sabotage the project, asserting his responsibility to ensure its execution.

“If we are coming to a community and say the whole community should evacuate, then you can say we should compensate, not when it’s just 20 houses. Now, we are doing that, and you are trying to sabotage us. I have a job to do, and my job is to execute that project,” he added.

Tulia Ackson, IPU president, acknowledged the concerns raised by Akpoti-Uduaghan and assured that the organisation would investigate the matter thoroughly.

She said the IPU would listen to both sides of the issue before taking any necessary steps.

Ackson recognised that another Nigerian delegate, Kafilat Ogbara, a member of the house of representatives, had requested to speak but was unable to due to time constraints.

“I would like to say we have heard her concerns, and having heard her, it would have been an opportunity for all of us to understand more about what she has said,” Ackson said.

“But because we listened only on her side, as an institution as IPU, we will be taking the concerns that have been raised, not only taking her side, but also giving a chance to listen to the other side, as it is a custom for IPU.

“After having listened to the other side, we will take steps as necessary. So I thought it was necessary for us to say a word about it and then be able to take it further.”
