https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULbqu05mAWg The Special Adviser and a Consultant to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, on Communications and Strategy, Ken Okolugbo, has blamed the tension between his principal and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in the Senate on pent-up anger. Okolugbo claimed that the seat arrangement controversy which pitted the Senator representing Kogi Central against the Senate President was made worse by Natasha’s bottled-up anger for her removal as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Content. “The fact of the matter was that her seat was removed and there was already bottled-up anger because she was removed from the local content committee,” Okolugbo said. The dispute which started in the Red Chambers with seat arrangement escalated, with Natasha accusing Akpabio of sexual harassment, a claim the latter has denied. This dispute has also led the Senate to suspend Senator Natasha for six months on Thursday for violation of its rules. “That the Senate do suspend Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for six months for her total violation of the Senate Standing Rules (2023 as amended for bringing the presiding officer and the entire Nigerian Senate to public opprobrium,” Senate President Godswill Akpabio said on Thursday while reading out the recommendations of the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct probing her claims. Despite the suspension of the Kogi Senator, Akpabio’s aide believes that it is not late to resolve the issue, saying that all Natasha needs to do is to pen an apology. “The reality of it all is that all Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan needs to do is to apologise, a written apology. She has been given that window, anybody that is deceiving her to the contrary is just ruining her political career,” Okolugbo said. |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKEWAIT1vXE Disconnection: Soldiers Invaded Ikeja Electricity Headquarters, Beat-Up Staff Personnel of the Nigerian Military have invaded the headquarters office of electricity distribution company Ikeja Electric in Lagos. The headquarters of Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) near Government House, Alausa-Secretariat, Ikeja, was invaded by armed men in military uniform at about 7:40 am on Thursday. As of the time of filing this report, staff and other persons found in the office were being subjected to physical assaults by the armed soldiers led by a woman. According to report, it took the swift intervention of the Lagos Police Command Headquarters, that called the high ranking military officer at the base headquarters to intervene, so that the armed soldiers can withdraw from the electricity company and find a way to peacefully resolve the issues. Elsewhere in other locations in state, it was gathered that the personnel in uniform forced their way into the Ikeja Electric office on Ago Palace Way, Okota, Isolo, Lagos. Videos obtained by our correspondent showed military personnel wielding arms and effectively crippling operations at the electricity distribution company. More than seven staff members were seen kneeling while the military personnel assaulted others, forcing them to undergo the treatment. Reports on Wednesday 5th March indicated that Ikeja Electric disconnected the power supply to the Nigerian Air Force logistics base in Ikeja. The incident has instilled fear among company staff, with many hiding for safety. A staff member, who spoke to The Guardian on condition of anonymity over fears for his life, said they had decided to boycott their offices as many colleagues who resumed work on Thursday have been unreachable. He said: “I’ve been trying to reach our managers. Their numbers have been unreachable, and most likely, they have been attacked by the military guys. “This is unheard of, unlawful, and disgraceful—that the military can invade the offices of companies in a civil society.” There has been growing tension between Ikeja Electric and the Sam Ethnan Air Force Base, Ikeja, over the disconnection of power supply, which many fear may escalate if not addressed. The Sam Ethnan Air Force Base, Ikeja, has been without power for two weeks following its disconnection by Ikeja Electric over an unpaid debt running into millions of naira. Sources informed that there was an agreement for the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to pay a monthly sum of N60 million to ensure a daily electricity supply of 10 to 12 hours to the base. However, the prolonged power outage was compromising the base’s safety and security. Sources confirmed that the base had consistently kept to its part of the bargain. According to a source, his particular concern is the operational warehouse housing high-caliber armaments, which are reportedly at risk due to rising temperatures caused by the failure of the cooling systems. Sources within Ikeja Electric said NAF had not fulfilled the agreement to pay the debt for the distribution company to restore power to the base. The offices of Ikeja Electric had yet to resume operations at the time of filing this report. |

The special Iftar event, held at Al-Furqan mosque in Kano metropolis, was part of the president’s Renewed Hope Youth Engagement (RHYE) initiative. During the event, Seyi Tinubu also flagged off a feeding programme for the less privileged and the disabled. This gesture underscores the president’s commitment to supporting vulnerable members of society. Earlier in the day, Seyi Tinubu paid a visit to the residence of renowned business mogul, Aminu Dantata, and later paid homage to Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf. The special Iftar was attended by a diverse group of dignitaries, including members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), led by its Chairman, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa. Seyi Tinubu’s presence at the event highlights the importance of community engagement and social responsibility, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.

Following his swearing-in, Obasa announced the indefinite adjournment of the Assembly, signaling a pause in legislative activities. In January, the lawmakers impeached Obasa over multiple allegations, including poor leadership style, high-handedness, frequent lateness to plenary sessions, abuse of office, and intimidation of colleagues. Speaking during the plenary session today, he thanked the lawmaker while calling for unity and love. He said, “We want to assure Lagosians that we have resolved and determined to serve their interest and protect their interest always. Our major responsibility is to represent them and what we have been doing. “What is happening here today shows that the Lagos State House of Assembly is capable and is a House of integrity. It is a house that internal mechanism to resolve in the interest of the institution and our party. “Today is not the day for speech making but to celebrate my colleagues and thank them for all they’ve been doing. I am sure we will continue to work together in peace, love and harmony.” |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zROChIKrfp0 While reacting to the Supreme Court’s ruling which nullified the local government elections and also ordered that the Martin Amaewhule-led group resume sitting, the governor maintained that the future holds greater promise than the past and that he is not afraid to pay the ultimate sacrifice for Rivers State people. He pledged to complete his tenure with honour and integrity, ensuring that his decisions remain defensible. Fubara also emphasized the need to counter political propaganda with evidence of purposeful governance, citing the ongoing inauguration of state projects as a testament to his administration’s commitment to progress. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlwgX93M1yg The Nigerian Ambassadors for Gender Tranquility (NAGET), has called for the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over her allegations of sexual harassment against the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio. The President of the group, Elijah Tule, who made the call at press briefing on Sunday in Abuja said the call became necessary because Senator Natasha has refused to abide by a simple Senate rule that every Senator is bound to respect, thereby, breaking the rule and going a step forward to try to blackmail the man vested with the power to correct her and protect the rules of the Senate. According to him, the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio has never been in the news for harassing any woman in the past, this makes it very difficult to successfully lie against him in this fashion “It is unconscionable that our dear Senator Natasha would refuse to abide by a simple Senate rule that every Senator is bound to respect, thereby, breaking the rule and going a step forward to try to blackmail the man vested with the power to correct her and protect the rules of the Senate”. To this end, the group demanded that, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan withdraws her spurious allegations against the person of the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio or face the wrath of all well meaning Nigerians. That, having grossly violated the rules of the Senate and further desecrated the Seat of the Senate President, she be suspended from the Senate until she retracts her allegations and tenders an unreserved apology to the Senate President. “Finally, it’s alleged Sen. Natasha’s best game is blackmail. Though this allegation is not independently confirmed, we will be forced to dig deeper if the Honourable Senator does not apologise and desist from lying to dent the hard earned reputation of Sen. Godswill Akpabio”, he said. |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fEk_W5O7sw Kenneth Okonkwo, a Nigerian actor, lawyer and politician has accused the Nigerian Supreme Court of inconsistency, while breaking down the recent ruling in rivers state crisis. Recall that the Supreme Court on Friday ruled that the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Accountant-General of the Federation must halt the release of funds to the Rivers State Government until the Rivers House of Assembly is properly constituted in line with the 1999 Constitution. The apex court also affirmed the Martins Amaewhule-led Rivers House of Assembly members as the valid lawmakers. A five-member panel of the Supreme Court, in a unanimous decision delivered by Justice Emmanuel Akomaye Agim, declared that no funds should be disbursed to the Rivers State Government until a lawful Appropriation Act is enacted in the state. Justice Agim specifically upheld the judgment of the Federal High Court, which barred the allocation of funds to the state government. Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja had, on October 24, 2024, issued an order preventing the Central Bank of Nigeria from further disbursing monthly financial allocations to the Rivers State Government. In her ruling, the judge also barred the Accountant-General of the Federation, Zenith Bank, and Access Bank, where the state holds accounts, from releasing funds to the government. Justice Abdulmalik ruled that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s receipt and use of the state’s monthly allocations since January 2024 constituted a violation of the Constitution that could not be permitted to continue. She also condemned Governor Fubara’s presentation of the 2024 budget to a four-member Rivers House of Assembly, stating that it was a direct violation of constitutional requirements. Delivering judgment on the appeal brought before it by the 27 lawmakers, Justice Agim overturned the Court of Appeal ruling that had nullified the Federal High Court judgment on jurisdictional grounds and restored the trial court’s decision. He declared, “The judgment of the Federal High Court is hereby affirmed.” The Supreme Court further ruled, “The Rivers State allocation fund is to be withheld until the unconstitutional actions are rectified.” Referring to the Appeal Court judgment that criticised Fubara for presenting the 2024 budget before only four Assembly members, Justice Akomaye likened the governor’s actions to “bigamy.” The court reaffirmed that the presentation of the 2024 budget before four out of 31 members of the House of Assembly was unconstitutional and, therefore, void. |
