General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, on Thursday evening, preached virtually at the church’s Holy Communion service.

This is despite the loss of his 42-year-old son, Pastor Dare Adeboye, who died in his sleep on Wednesday in Eket, Akwa Ibom State, where he was based with his family.

Daddy G.O, as fondly called, featured at the Holy Communion Service of the May Edition of the church’s Holy Ghost Service, themed, ‘Overflowing Blessings’.

Pastor Adeboye, while preaching from John 6: 5-13, stressed the importance of the bread and wine of the Holy Communion.

The revered cleric, who preached in his usual fashion despite the tragedy that struck the family, said, “The bread multiplied in the hands of the disciples, as you receive the bread, it will multiply in your hands.”

The General Overseer, who kept mute on the passing of his son, was visibly heartbroken and troubled.

After the sermon, the officiating minister in the auditorium said Pastor Adeboye was not physically present due to some ‘circumstances beyond control’.

“Tonight, daddy has prayed for us. He has also prayed on all the elements that we are going to use – the bread and the wine. I am here not standing in for him because I am too small to stand in for him; I am only here to deliver the message as a messenger.

“He could have been here physically as he used to but due to circumstances beyond control, he was not able to be here but to the Glory of God, he has said to us, Jesus is here and he is also there praying for us,” the minister said.

The family house of Uduak Akpan, the suspected killer of a job seeker, Miss Iniubong Umoren has been vandalised by aggrieved youths from Nnung Ikono Obio in Uruan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

It was learnt that the angry youths carted away all the properties in the building and took the father of Uduak Akpan to the police.

Gistongist has gathered that the youths, after setting the security house of the one-storey building on fire, used heavy stones to vandalise the building on Tuesday.

Speaking with Newsmen, the youths explained that their action was predicated on the alleged complicity suspected killer in the murder of the 26-year-old Umoren, a graduate of philosophy from the University of Uyo.

A witness said “they broke the louvers and the glass doors with the help of heavy pebbles and sticks and carted away everything in the building.”

The president of the youths in the area, Etubom Sunday Essien, further expressed displeasure over the evil act carried out by one of their own.

“The action of manslaughter committed by the suspect, Uduak Akpan, is an offence which is not condoned in the community.

“There is nothing happening apart from the one you have already heard. It’s not good for the boy to kill his fellow human being.

“We don’t know that is what he has been doing, that is, manslaughter. That is what we have heard that he is doing. That is the reason we took this action,” Essien said.

Federal Government has expressed great concern at the recent wave of attacks on Custodial Centres of the Nigeria Correctional Service NCoS, ordering personnel of the Service’s armed squad to shoot-at-sight any internal and external aggressor.

Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola gave the order at an emergency meeting with NCoS Squadron Commanders, Field Commanders and Heads of Armed Squads.

This was as he said some of the inmates who escaped from the custodial centres have been rearrested for murder.

He also cautioned the personnel against trafficking which he said was one way through which criminals invade the facilities having known that they could smuggle contraband into the facilities.



While he declared the centres as “red zones” which must remain inviolable at all costs, Aregbesola directed the officers to deploy maximum force rather than minimum force against aggressors.

He said; “Our Custodial Centres must be red zones. It is a quarantine centre for those who by law should not live among free men. When a person is declared unfit to relate with other humans, it is the duty of the authorities to guarantee it.



“We are with you absolutely to make our Custodial Centres inviolable. Attacks on centres is no longer a happenstance. There is a pattern now and we can no longer give any excuse to allow these attacks to succeed. I was at the Owerri centre when we were told about the circumstances surrounding that attack and the question someone asked was, where are the casualties?

“If this meeting must make any meaning at all, you will be held absolutely responsible going forward for any attack on our custodial facilities. I asked representatives of the advanced nations about how it works and they told me a custodial centre is a fortress and a sacred facility that nobody should even have the temerity to attack, not to talk of succeeding at attacking. So the current security challenges are just being used as a cover. A pattern is fast emerging and we must take it as such.

“Well, we must commend you for your professionalism, diligence and sacrifice in the performance of your duties. We appreciate you but the line must be drawn where you say enough is enough, where nobody can cross, to dare or to attempt to break our will.

“I am aware of your yeoman’s job in foiling attacks, particularly jailbreaks. I must commend you for your brilliance in Ikoyi, Bauchi, Ubiaja and Kano recently.

“The custodial facilities are a symbol of the authority of the Nigerian State. They are sacred and inviolable institutions. You will notice that they are usually built around military fortresses, to show how important they are. This is to deter would-be attackers from inside or outside.

“More importantly, you are armed and positioned to directly guard them and defend their integrity. Your mission is to defend the facilities at all costs. Let me repeat again, defend them at all costs.

You are empowered by the highest authority in the land to use every means necessary to defend the custodial centres against internal and external aggression. The weapons you carry and the instrument you have are to be lawfully deployed for maximum effect, in protecting the facilities. Anyone or group of persons that decide(s) to attack them should not live to regret it.

“You must not fail because failure means you have contributed to the insecurity in the land by allowing criminals to invade society. This begins with vigilance. You must be on the watch for any instrument or material that could aid criminals in perpetuating jailbreaks. The actualization of Oduduwa nation by Yoruba agitators has again suffered another setback as the Ogun State Police Command barred a rally slated for May 1 in the state.

The statement reads in part, “Consequently, the rally slated for Abeokuta on 1st May, 2021, is viewed by the Command as one too many in the state, and therefore not approved.”

The latest development was made known by the Ogun Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, via a statement on Thursday.

“Parents and guardians are hereby advised to warn their children and wards not to be involved in any of such gathering that may expose them to violence and consequently bring them on a collision course with the security agencies.”

The police described the rally as disturbing, noting that the previous rally in Ogun State caused “serious panic in the minds of the people”

“The Command is not oblivious of the constitutional rights of citizens to freedom of association and expression, but we however want to caution that these rights should not be exercised to the detriment of other citizens.

“It will be recalled that the group had on 21/3/2021 staged a public rally at Isara Remo for the actualization of Oduduwa republic, where they blocked highways and made free-flow of traffic very difficult for other road users. The same group staged another rally in Shagamu on 16/4/2021 where they made an attempt to attack Shagamu police station for no reason.

“Yet, on 25/4/2021, they held another rally at Ajuwon where in the course of stopping them from distributing inciting letters, policemen and other security agents were jeered at and pelted with missiles. The same group is again planning to hold another mass rally on May 1st, 2021 at Abeokuta, making it the 4th rally in the State in quick succession.”

“It is also instructive to note that available intelligence shows that the organizers of these rallies are being sponsored by certain individuals outside the State and the country to destabilize Ogun State,” the statement added.

The latest development is coming after the same campaign organized by the leader of Ilana Odua, Banji Akintoye, was stopped by the police in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele has announced the sack of the entire board of directors of FBN Holdings Plc and its subsidiary First Bank of Nigeria Limited.

The announcement was made in a television broadcast on Thursday, April 29.

Godwin Emefiele cited insider abuse, insider credit and breakdown of corporate governance as the reason behind the sacking of the board of FBN Holdings, Nigeria’s largest bank.

The CBN governor further announced the reinstatement of Dr Sola Adeduntan as the Managing Director of the interim Board after he was removed by the now sacked board of First Bank Plc.

According to the Governor, “First Bank of Nigeria is one of Nigeria’s systemically important banks given its historical significance, balance sheet size, large customer base and high level of interconnectedness with other financial service providers.”

Following the sacking of the board, the CBN appointed the following people as directors of the holding company, FBNH, Dr. Fatade Abiodun Oluwole, Kofo Dosekun, Remi Lasaki, Dr Alimi Abdulrasaq, Ahmed Modibbo, Khalifa Imam, Sir Peter Aliogo, and UK Eke (Managing Director) as Directors of FBN Holdings Plc. Remi Babalola was appointed as Chairman.

For First Bank Ltd, Tokunbo Martins, Uche Nwokedi, Adekunle Sonola, Isioma Ogodazi, Ebenezer Olufowose, Ishaya Elijah B. Dodo were appointed directors while Tunde Hassan-Odukale was appointed Chairman.

The CBN also confirmed the reinstatement of Sola Adeduntan as Managing Director; Gbenga Shobo as Deputy Managing Director; and Remi Oni and Abdullahi Ibrahim as Executive Directors of First Bank of Nigeria Limited. Gbenga Shobo was just yesterday announced as MD/CEO of First Bank setting the stage for the CBN intervention; while Remi Oni would soon proceed on terminal leave having been appointed Chairman of PENCOM.

In the press briefing, Mr Emefiele stated that the apex bank had been keeping close tabs on First Bank over the past 5 years having discovered that the bank was in “grave financial condition with its Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) and Non-Performing Loans ratio (NPL) substantially breaching acceptable prudential standards.”

According to Emefiele, “The insiders who took loans in the bank, with controlling influence on the board of directors, failed to adhere to the terms for the restructuring of their credit facilities which contributed to the poor financial state of the bank. The CBN’s recent target examination as at December 31, 2020 revealed that insider loans were materially non-compliant with restructure terms (e.g. non perfection of lien on shares/collateral arrangements) for over 3 years despite several regulatory reminders. The bank has not also divested its non-permissible holdings in non-financial entities in line with regulatory directives.”

Emefiele also reassured First Bank of Nigeria depositors, creditors and other stakeholders of the bank of its commitment to ensure the stability of the financial system insisting that it acted to protect 31 million customers, minority shareholders of First Bank of Nigeria LTD.

Force fighter jet on a mission against Boko Haram extremists mistakenly bombed men of the Nigerian Army on Sunday, killing over 20 officers.

A military source who disclosed this on anonymity, said the soldiers who were reinforced from Ngandu village were said to be on their way to Mainok, headquarters of the Kaga Local Government Area of Borno state which was under attack by militants from the Islamic State-backed faction of Boko Haram.

The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), formerly known as Jamā’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihād.
reported how the gunmen attacked a Nigerian Army location at 156 Battalion in the community, killing over 30 soldiers.

The terrorists who came in no fewer than 15 gun trucks also burnt down the military base.
A source who pleaded anonymity confirmed the report saying a reinforcement team of the Nigerian Army sent to the community was mistakenly bombed by an Air Force fighter jet.


According to him, “The Boko Haram terrorists disguised in military uniform, gained access to the camp though, came in different groups and could not be counted. The Nigerian Army were pinned down, they requested for reinforcement, the reinforcement got on their way only to get smoked by the Nigerian Airforce.
“The (reinforcement team) was coming from Ngandu and were killed by an airstrike.

Another source said, the Air Force mistook them for Boko Haram as both were cladded in similar military uniform and operational vehicles,” .

Villagers in the past have reported some civilian casualties in near-daily bombardments in North Eastern Nigeria.
Recently, a military jet that came to repel an attack by Boko Haram dropped a bomb that landed in a compound where civilians were holding a naming ceremony.
Some of the Chibok schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram in 2014 and freed last year also said three of their classmates were killed by Air Force bombardments.

Students of Kaduna State University (KASU) on Thursday rejected the tuition fee increase from between N24,000 and N26,000, to from N150,000 to N500,000 by the State Government.

The students made their feelings known in Kaduna during a meeting with the students’ representatives, organised by the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr Terhimba Wuam.

Mr Abdulrazak Shuaibu, a medical student who spoke on behalf of the students, said that the tuition fees was increased from N26,000 to N150,000 for students in Faculty of Arts, Management and Social Sciences.

Shuaibu, a former President of the Kaduna State Students Union, explained that the tuition fee for for Faculty of Medicine was increased from N24,000 to N300,000 for indigenes and N500,000 for non-indigenes.

They described the increase as “outrageous” considering the current economic hardship being faced by parents and the negative impact of COVID-19.

They called on the state government to revert to the former fees.

“Currently, most students find it difficult to pay the N26,000 fees with a few dropping out of school eventually while some female students had to resort to prostitution to be able to pay.

“This is because majority of us came from poor homes with our parents struggling to feed us and pay our school fees.

“Moreso, we are yet to recover from COVID-19 and the state government is increasing school fees. This is unfair and unreasonable,” he said.

According to them, some of the students were enjoying the state government scholarship, the beneficiaries were less than 5,000.

“This also means that the government is giving us scholarship and collecting even more from us as tuition fee. We, therefore, reject the scholarship,” he said.

Also speaking, Mr Adonalo Stephen, the Secretary General, National Association of Kaduna State Students, pointed out that most of their parents were being sacked from the civil service, a development that has already thrown many families into economic crises.

Stephen therefore appealed to the state government to reconsider its stand and revert the tuition fee to the old rate so as not to deny many youths in the state university education.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor Academy, Prof. Abdullahi Ashafa, aknowledged the tuition fee increase by the State Executive Council.

Ashafa explained that the university requires huge funding to efficiency provide the needed quality education and skills that would make the students useful to themselves and to the society.

He said that perhaps the tuition fee was increased to enable the school generate the needed funds it requires to deliver its mandate.

He appealed to the students to be law abiding and not to take law into their hands in their quest to seek reversal of the fee increase.

Ashafa commended the students for the display of maturity and the choice of dialogue in presenting their concerns.

Earlier, Wuam explained that the meeting was convened to get feedback from the students and agree on way forward to avoid actions that could lead to breakdown of law and order by the students.

Gistongist gathered that one of the close ally of the deceased comedienne, Harrison Gwamnishu has opened up on how her last moments on earth were and what she wished to do before death took her away.

He said that on Tuesday 20th, they were with her till about 6pm, and when they wanted to leave, she cried and begged them not to leave. Then around 11pm, her husband called to tell him that they wanted to give her injection, because they usually gave her injection every evening.He asked him to send money for it, which was N50,000.

But about ten minutes after that, he called him back to say that he didn’t know what was happening to her, that Ada Jesus could not talk again, and that she was breathing faster than normal.

He said he left where he was and went to the hospital, and saw the doctors and nurses attending to her, and they later took her into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and that they were there in the hospital with her.

But in the morning, around 7-8am, the doctor came out to inform them that Ada has passed on.

According to him, they were shocked by her death, because her health was already b signs of improvement – that she could eat, talk and do other things.

When asked how her last moments were, he said that her last moments were filled with love. That Ada experienced love from many people, from people she didn’t even know.

He said that she was a fun person to be with, and was always making everyone laugh, and that sometimes when she went to the hospital with sadness, she would cheer up his mood with her jokes.

Speaking about what Ada Jesus wished to do before she died, he said that she wanted to make a live video and thank people that were praying for her and supporting her. And that she later asked for a phone with which to make the live video, but unfortunately, she did not live to fulfil that wish.

Traditional rulers from the Ogun West Senatorial District, on Thursday morning, besieged the National Assembly for the public hearing on a bill for the upgrade of some tertiary institutions to universities.

Those in attendance included the Olu of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle; Onimeko of Imeko, Oba Benjamin Olanite; Onipokia of Ipokia Yewa, Oba Olusola Olaniyan; Alagbara of Agbara Yewa, Oba Jaiyeola Agunbiade; Eselu of Iselu Yewa, Oba Ebenezer Akinyemi; and the Abepa of Joga Orile Yewa, Oba Adeyemi Adekeye, among others.

The bill is sponsored by the Senator representing Lagos West Senatorial District, Senator Solomon Adeola, an indigene of Yewa, Ogun State.

The proposed institutions are Federal University of Technology Yaba (currently known as Yabatech); Federal University of Technology, Ilaro (Federal Poly Ilaro); and the Nigerian French Language Village as an inter-university centre for French studies.

European Football Governing Body, UEFA has sanctioned Salvia Prague Defender, Ondrej Kudela over his racist comments against Rangers Midfielder, Glen Kamara during their Europa League Round of 16 Clash last month.

The match was halted after the Rangers player accused Kudela of racially abusing him.

Director of Media and Communication of the Kibaku (Chibok) Area Development Association KADA, Dr Allen Manasseh has revealed that 20 parents out of the 112 Chibok Girls held captive since April 14, 2014 have died as a result of trauma .

Dr Allen Manasseh who disclosed this at a solemn event held Wednesday in Abuja to mark the seventh year kidnap of the students said many other parents are living with terminal ailments.

You will recall that, on the night of April 14, 2014, about 276 schoolgirls of Government Secondary School Chibok were kidnapped. While 57 escaped later, 105 of the affected students were brought back through independent escape and military negotiations ,112 Chibok girls remain captives of the Boko Haram terrorist group.

According to Dr Manasseh, At the time of the Girls Kidnap, no fewer than 503 students were registered to sit for their final Senior School Certificate (SSCE) known as WAEC and NECO at the school. “No one can imagine the trauma and pain they are passing through, in the hands of terrorists who subject them to abuses, rapes, forced marriages, forced labour and many more associated with terrorism. Their parents are heartbroken, over 20 have since died, many are sick, waiting for answers from our government”.
While the parents called for ‘closure’ on the incident, they reminded President Muhammadu Buhari of his inaugural promise to see to their release.

Cultists have allegedly shot dead a two hundred level student, named James Okunmakpeye at Niger Delta University during a pandemonium.

The University is located on the Wilberforce Island area of Ammassoma in the Southern Ijaw local government area of Bayelsa State.

The deceased, a member department of marketing in the Faculty of Management Science of the institution, was shot in the head at close range while standing by the door of lecture class.

According to source, his colleagues scampered out of the lecture room for safety, while the deceased was left in his pool of blood.

Responding, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr Ingezi Idoni, who confirmed the development, assured newsmen that the authority is investigating the incident and have contacted security personnel on the matter.

“The culprit after carrying out the dastardly act ran towards the Ogunbiri side of the institution where the perimeter fencing has failed and escaped. We are using this opportunity to call on the state government to assist the institution in the completion of the perimeter fencing of the institution to assist in proper security of lives and property of the institution,” he said.

Speaking, the spokesperson of the Bayelsa Police Command, Asimin Butswat, who also confirmed the incident, said he was waiting for details from the divisional headquarters in Ammassoma.

Communications giant, Twitter, has opened its Africa Operation Headquarters in Ghana, shunning Nigeria, despite over 2.5 million users – which is about third largest in the continent after Egypt and South Africa.

The Twitter Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder, Jack Dorsey, confirmed this on Monday, and said, “Twitter is now present on the continent. Thank you Ghana, and Nana Akufo Addo.”

“The choice of Ghana as Headquarters for Twitter’s Africa operations is excellent news. The government and Ghana welcome very much this announcement and the confidence reposed in our country,” Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo also tweeted on Monday.

In a release, Twitter reinstated that its mission is to serve the public conversation, and it’s essential, for the world and for Twitter, to increase the number of people who feel comfortable participating in it.

It said, “Today, in line with our growth strategy, we’re excited to announce that we are now actively building a team in Ghana. Dangote Cement Plc’s management, lamenting the misinformation in some quarters, denied any price rise yesterday, clarifying that the commodity from its factories and plants nationwide sells for N2,450 in Obajana and Gboko, and N2,510 in Ibese, inclusive of value-added tax (VAT).

The clarification came after recent allegations that it was selling cement in Nigeria at a significantly higher price than in other countries, especially Ghana and Zambia, according to the company.

Devakumar Edwin, Dangote’s Group Executive Director, Strategy, Portfolio Development & Capital Projects, clarified that a bag of cement costs $5.1 in Nigeria, including VAT, but $7.2 in Ghana and $5.95 in Zambia ex-factory, taxes included.

He explained that while the company had direct control over its ex-factory costs, it couldn’t affect the product’s pricing until it reached the market.

Burna Boy is tagged ‘Youtube Anini’ over the accusations that he pulled a heist on Youtube by buying fake number of views in a short time frame.

This is coming after fans of the singer noticed a huge spike in the number of Youtube views on one of Burna Boy’s music videos titled “Monsters you made” released in 2020 that accumulated over 500,000 views within an hour on Sunday, 11 April.

The suspicion is further confirmed as the number of likes and dislikes remained at the same spot despite gaining an extra 500K views.

The Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi has attributed the three-month tenure extension granted to the outgoing Inspector General of Police to the selection process of a new police boss.

Dingyadi who announced the appointment of Deputy Inspector of Police (DIG), Usman Baba as Acting Inspector General of Police said the Adamu’s appointment was terminated owing to their final selection of the right man for the position.

The West African Examinations Council , WAEC, says it has released the results for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The Head of the Nigeria National Office, WAEC, Mr Patrick Areghan, noted that the examination was primarily designed to help candidates seeking admission to tertiary institutions to reduce the waiting time for results and beat admission deadlines.

“It will interest you to know that the examination is also an international one. This is the 4th edition in Nigeria, with the maiden edition taking place in 2018. The examination is primarily designed to help candidates seeking admission to tertiary institutions reduce the waiting time for results and beat admission deadlines.

“The analysis of the statistics of the performance of candidates, shows that out of the Seven Thousand Two Hundred and Eighty-Nine (7,289) candidates that sat the examination,” he said.

Areghan said, “Two Thousand Nine Hundred and Thirty-Eight (2,938) candidates representing 40.31 per cent obtained credit and above in a minimum of any five subjects (with or without English Language and/or Mathematics; out of which One Thousand Three Hundred and Ninety-Six (1,396) were male and One Thousand five Hundred and Forty-Two (1,542) were female candidates, representing 47.52%and 52.48 % respectively;

“Two Thousand One Hundred and Ninety-Five (2,195) candidates representing 30.11 per cent obtained credits and above in a minimum of five (5) subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.

“Of this number, One Thousand and Seventy-Four (1,074) i.e. 48.93 per cent were male candidates, while One Thousand, One Hundred and Twenty-One (1,121) i.e. 51.07 per cent were female candidates.

“The percentage of candidates in this category in the WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2019 and 2020, that is, those who obtained credit and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, were 26.08 per cent and 32.23 per cent respectively. Thus, there is a marginal decrease of 2.12 per cent in performance in this regards.”

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed the Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG, Usman Alkali Baba as acting Inspector General of Police (IGP).

The minister of Police Affairs, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi disclosed this Tuesday at the presidential villa, Abuja today.

You will recall that,
President Muhammadu Buhari and the attorney-general of the federation, Abubakar Malami, had earlier said, the law permits the present inspector-general of police IGP Mohammed Adamu, to remain in office until either 2023 or 2024.

Adamu, who was appointed in 2019, clocked the mandatory 35 years of service on February 1, and was expected to have been replaced by the president.

But, on February 4, President Muhammadu Buhari extended Adamu’s tenure by three months.

Peruzzi detailed how his former record label treated him unfairly and jailed him before he joined DMW.

Former Super Eagles Player, Patrick Pascal has thanked the Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu for rewarding him with a three bed-room apartment in the state.

Pascal who was led by the president of the Nigerian Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick and coaching crew to a dinner with Lagos state Governor on Thursday night, March 25, was rewarded with the apartment gift.

The 46-year-old who is the current Super Eagles team coordinator is among the squad that won the gold at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics football event.

The governor while addressing the team explained that Pascal will get a new three bedroom apartment in Lagos.

Meanwhile, Pascal stated that receiving the prize is surprising and thanked the Lagos state community for the honour.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige had, on Friday, threatened that the government would not hesitate to invoke the ‘No work no pay’ provision in the labour laws if they failed to call off the strike.

The National Association of Resident Doctors has raised the alarm that it is being threatened by some government agencies to call off its ongoing strike.

This is coming four days into the nationwide strike which according to the association is to protest against the failure of the Federal Government to honour their agreements, including the payment of salary arrears and indemnity for their colleagues who died in the line of COVID-19 duty.
