Foreign Affairs / U-TURN IRAN ABOLISHES Morality Police After Two Months Of Violent Hijab Protests by Gjrich(m): 2:23am On Dec 05, 2022
SHOCK U-TURN Iran ABOLISHES morality police after two months of violent hijab protests with 200 killed in bloody unrest.

IRAN has scrapped its controversial morality police after months of deadly protests, it is understood.

Riots erupted across the country following the death of Mahsa Amini, who was arrested in the capital Tehran and beaten by cops for not complying with Iran's strict hijab laws.

It is understood the 22-year-old died in custody on September 16 after being left in a coma by the regime's morality police.

Public outrage over Mahsa's death turned into a bloodbath - with at least 200 people killed in violent riots, according to a top state security body.

Mahsa was beaten by morality police after being arrested in the capital Tehran for not complying with tough hijab laws.

She was allegedly detained for having some hair visible under her headscarf - which Iranian women are legally required to wear.

have been sparked nationwide following her death as thousands of fed-up citizens rally against the harsh laws.

Female rioters have burned hijabs in the street and shared videos of themselves tearing off their scarves.

The demonstrations are one of the boldest challenges to the clerical leadership since the 1979 revolution.

But after weeks of unrest, it is understood Iran will now get rid of morality cops.

"Morality police have nothing to do with the judiciary" and have been abolished, Attorney General Mohammad Jafar Montazeri was quoted as saying by the ISNA news agency.

His comment came at a religious conference where he responded to a participant who asked "why the morality police were being shut down", the report said.

The morality police - known formally as the "Guidance Patrol" - were established under hardline president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, to "spread the culture of modesty and hijab", the female head covering.

The units began patrols in 2006.
It comes as Iran reviews its decades-old hijab laws.

Montazeri said that "both parliament and the judiciary are working (on the issue)" of whether the law requiring women to cover their heads needs to be changed.

President Ebrahim Raisi said in televised comments Saturday that Iran's republican and Islamic foundations were constitutionally entrenched "but there are methods of implementing the constitution that can be flexible".

It comes after Iran's national football team stayed silent as the country's national anthem played out before their opening World Cup match against England.

The starting 11 players refused to sing in an apparent show of support for protesters back home.

Iranian fans in the Qatari stadium were moved to tears by the incredible gesture as massive protests continue to sweep the Islamic Republic.

franchasng:
I know many Nigerians no longer believe nor trust Nigerian politicians when it comes to campaign promises, especially after Buhari and APC failed woefully and even destroyed Nigeria beyond what it was in 2015; that's after Buhari and APC promised Nigerians heaven on earth before 2015 Presidential election.

Honestly, Buhari even performed beyond who he was before 2015. Buhari was a known tribal religious bigot right from when he was a junior soldier according to my late uncle that served together with Buhari at Dordan barracks Lagos in the mid 1960s before the unfortunate January 1966 Nzeogwu coup.

Buhari has always displayed his hatred for other Nigerian tribes, especially those in the South even as a military officer.

Buhari destroyed Man O War starting from when he was the GOC of 2 Division Headquarters Nigerian Army Ibadan simply because the Yoruba man that was heading Man O War then couldn't convince Buhari how the outfit could benefit Hausa-Fulanis directly.

In 1983 when Buhari overthrew Shagari and Alex Ekwueme, Buhari didn't jail Shagari, but he jailed Ekwueme the Vice President with other Southern politicians that served under Shagari, leaving Shagari the President who he ought to have jailed first as the leader of the government he overthrew.

Or did we forget when Buhari traveled all the way from the North to Oyo State to go warn Oyo government to tell their people to stop killing Fulani people in Oyo state after a clash between Fulani herdsmen and some Oyo farmers?

It was as if Nigerians just decided to ignore all Buhari's glaring bigotry and tribal supremacy syndrome in 2015, thinking that a leopard would change its spots to make his preys happy.

Buhari as a retired military general, former Petroleum minister, and former head of state couldn't boast of owning a successful business; be it a farm or whatever, instead he went about singing how broke he was and how he was borrowing loans to buy his presidential nomination form yet Nigerians didn't see all these as a big red flag that Buhari is a nodowell with very low IQ. Take a look at Obasanjo, after his Presidency he went into mechanized farming and owned massive Otta farms.

It has nothing to do with looting, it shows a progressive mind that knows how to create wealth.

Buhari believes in suffering. Buhari does not believe in youths becoming rich. Buhari does not believe in industrialization or innovation, he only believea in using guns to chase people around to comply to a poverty striken lifestyle that will show they are not corrupt.

Buhari believes only his family, Fulanis, and Hausa Muslims deserve good life and also Buhari believes that only Hausa-Fulani Muslims are upright and therefore deserve key political appointments because to him they are not corrupt while the rest of Nigerians are corrupt criminals that must be ruled with iron hands to stop them from being corrupt. This was the reason why Buhari shunned Nigeria's Federal Character that was put in place to ensure equitable distribution of political appointments and employments among all Nigerian tribes and regions to focus mainly on Hausa-Fulanis.

With all these glaring flaws and more, there was no way Buhari could have changed Nigeria for good, even Bola Tinubu knew this but he just wanted to use Buhari as a ladder to climb to presidency, so lets not compare Buhari to any other politician vying for Presidency today, be it Tinubu or Atiku or Obi, Buhari can never be better than any of them.

Tinubu would have been a good option 8 years ago but not now. Tinubu's frail health, age and party affiliation is a big NO. Osinbajo would have been the best option for APC but APC delegates sold their conscience.

As for Atiku, he would have done far better than Buhari in 2019, but we cannot elect another Fulani man after another deadly Fulani man is leaving office in 2023, that will be a great injustice against the South.

Every nation grows through equity, fairness and love. We cannot throw away these vital ingredients of national growth in the name of playing politics. Our diversity requires we pay close attention to fairness, equity and love to succeed as a nation.

Now let me tell you why Peter Obi winning the 2023 Presidential election will transform Nigeria almost automatically.

POSITIVE SIGNAL TO INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY

The mere news that Peter Obi of Labor Party has won the 2023 Presidential election will send very strong message across the world that Nigeria's democracy has become stable and strong for a 3rd force candidate to emerge winner.

This news alone will entice and attract immediate foreign direct investment into Nigeria's economy. This news will excite majority of Diaspora Nigerians, especially those of them that have lost hope in the future of Nigeria and it will encourage many of them to start thinking home which will further boost Nigeria's FX inflow.

REVERSE OF THE JAPA SYNDROME

The same news that Peter Obi has won will upset the current japa epidemic in Nigeria as many Nigerians planning to run away from Nigeria will cancel their plans to give Nigeria another try, and guess what this will do to Nigeria's economy? It will drastically reduce our FX outflow which will cause Dollar rate to drop as Naira will start to regain its lost value with immediate effect.

INSECURITY WILL WITNESS A SUDDEN DECLINE

There will be a swift turnaround in insecurity, how? Let me explain.

El Rufai once told us how he went to some communities outside Nigeria to pay some militants money in order to stop them from coming into Nigeria to kill Kaduna people.

President Buhari in his Arise TV live interview last year told Nigerians that the so called Bandits and herdsmen killing Nigerians are foreigners from outside Nigeria who were trained in combat by Libyan war.

Remember some intels we got that some APC chieftains in their effort to ensure Buhari/APC wins the 2015 Presidential election against Goodluck, went as far as going outside Nigeria to hire militants whom they camped in different forests waiting for Goodluck to win so that they can unleash terror on Nigerians and cause Goodluck to resign.

If you doubt this, then you should remember when Rotimi Amaechi the then Buhari campaign DG warned that if Goodluck wins the election that APC will not accept the result but will rather form a parallel government. Connect these dots and you will realize that APC truly brought in the so called killer herdsmen and bandits causing insecurity in Nigeria.

The bitter truth

Politics / Why Soludo, Obaseki, Nnamani, Others Are Ganging-up Against Peter Obi. by Gjrich(m): 7:48am On Nov 19, 2022
Why Soludo, Obaseki, Nnamani, others are ganging-up against Obi.

In the last couple of months, it is emerging clear that Peter Obi and his supporters, the Obidents, are not going to fizzle out as predicted by several political pundits.

In the South-east and South-south geopolitical zones, the spread of the popularity of the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party has redrawn the political map ahead of the general elections as campaigns thicken.

Instead of fizzling as predicted by many, Mr Obi and his supporters have grown significantly since May when Obi left the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

In the last couple of days, several political players in the two regions have intensified attacks on the candidate of the Labour Party. In the past, Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State and his counterpart in Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi have both taken slings at Obi, however, the pushback was swift, prompting both to recount their statements.

“We will not vote for the Labour Party, we will only vote for the APC. Our vote is for APC and not for the Labour Party. Our agenda is Ebonyi agenda. We will vote for our Presidential candidate in the person of Tinubu. We must strive to liberate Ebonyi State and that is our agenda,” Umahi had said in June.

However, in the past couple of weeks, the attack on Obi has intensified. It would be recalled that Chimaroke Nnamani, a former governor of Enugu State and Senatorial candidate on the platform of the PDP, had in a series of tweets in August warned his supporters not to risk voting Obi.

“Our party and platform is PDP. We must stand firm. We must not be swayed by the Obidient sentiments and vote Labour Party. If we blur the distinction, it will be difficult to reverse,” the tweet read.

Last week, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State joined the fray by denying the Obidient movement the use of Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

Although the movement held a rally in the city with thousands on the street, Mr Obaseki in an interview, insisted that Mr Obi supporters may control the virtual world, but PDP controls the political structure.

During the week, the biggest attack against the presidency of Obi came from his State, when Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State launched a fierce attack against him.

Soludo even implied that Obi’s candidacy is a tactical support for the candidate of the APC, Bola Tinubu.

“Indeed, if I were Asiwaju Tinubu, I would even give Peter Obi money as someone heading one of the departments of his campaign because Obi is making Tinubu’s pathway to victory much easier by indirectly pulling down PDP. It is what it is,” he stated.

Why are politicians in the South-east, South-south against Obi ?

The choice of Labour Party and the appeal to youths pose a significant threat to established political parties in the regions, Kelechukwu Eni-Otu, a member of the APC in Ebonyi State told DAILY POST.

According to him, “the fact that presidential elections and the National Assembly elections are on the same day, these politicians are just trying to avoid a tsunami.

“If the politicians in APC, PDP and APGA don’t react, there is a possibility that they will be affected by the Obi tsunami. We saw it in 2015 and 2019 in the North, where Buhari’s wave allowed several people to win the seats in Reps and Senate.”

Soludo is believed to be working to reduce the influence of the PDP in the State, because since 2015, APGA has performed poorly at National Assembly elections. In the current 9th Assembly, APGA has no single Senator but has about three Reps members.

This could be attributed to the fact that often, APGA does not present candidates for the presidential election. With Victor Umeh now in Labour teaming up with Obi, APGA may go into the election fighting against two formidable forces, PDP and Labour.

In Edo State, Governor Obaseki has been in a long battle with Dan Obih’s faction for the control of the PDP structure. He was ridiculed by Governor Nyesome Wike for not having control of the delegates at the last PDP presidential primaries.

Many believe that most people supporting Obi are people who ordinarily would have voted PDP. If Obi wins Edo State, it could have an effect on senatorial and House of Reps seats. In addition, there is the APC effect in Edo North, where Adams Oshiomhole is on the ballot.

Hence, Obaseki and the PDP in Edo will be going up against the APC and his former political mentor, Oshiomhole, while the Labour Party is also pulling votes.

The same could be said of Enugu State. For the very first time in 1999, Obi’s popularity among the youths presents the first serious litmus test for the party. And Chimaroke appears to have been spooked by the political calculations in the State.

As the campaigns progress, it is expected that many political gladiators will speak out more against Peter Obi as they struggle to hold on to their respective political structures.

Politics / Aisha Yesufu: What Peter Obi Does After Every Public Outing by Gjrich(m): 12:24am On Nov 19, 2022

Popular activist, Aisha Yesufu has revealed that the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, usually asks his team to scrutinize his performance after every outing and point out errors.

In a tweet via her verified handle on Friday night, the staunch supporter of Obi said the LP candidate is a teachable personality who is willing to learn.

She wrote, “When Peter Obi @PeterObi speaks I don’t hold my breath. I know he is capable. Beyond his capacity is the fact that he is willing to learn.

“Immediately after his outings he asks his team to rate his performance and point out where he should improve upon.

Attacks: I, my family being punished over comment on Peter Obi’s investment – Soludo cries

Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has raised the alarm that his family members are being harassed over his comment on Peter Obi’s investment in the state.

DAILY POST recalls that the former Central Bank Governor had, during an interview, declared that the investment the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, claimed he made with Anambra State revenues were “next to nothing”.

There had been series of backlashes from supporters of Obi, particularly on social media following Soludo’s comment.

In an article published on his Facebook page on Monday, the Anambra governor alleged that some persons angered by his comment have launched attacks on him and his family.

According to him, there were suggestions that the recent attack on security persons at Isuofia community of Aguata Local Government Area of the state where he hails from, were carried out by those provoked by his comment.

According to him, “sadly, several of the comments left the issue of the interview to probe or suggest motives, inferred from my response on “investment” that I am opposed to Peter Obi’s ambition and therefore committed a “crime” for which the punishment is internecine abuse and harassment even to my family.

“Some people even suggest that the gunmen who went to attack a checkpoint at my hometown on Saturday 12th November but were gunned down was part of the mob reaction.

“I used to think that for decent people, certain conducts are off-limits, and that in Anambra, politics is not warfare”.

Peter Obi Left PDP Because He Has Principles, But I Will Stay And Fight The Armed Robbers -Wike.

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has justified the decision of Peter Obi to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Labour Party (LP).

Nyesom Wike made this disclosure while commissioning the Ikoku flyover by Peter Obi in Rivers State.

According to Daily Post Nigeria, Wike noted that Peter Obi who happens to be a principled man left the party because he was humiliated in the party.

It could be recalled that just about 72 hours to the PDP presidential primaries, Peter Obi dumped the party and later announced to have joined the Labour Party of which he is now the party's flagbearer in the upcoming general election.

Peter Obi suffered some backlashes from prominent and influential PDP chieftains for taking such a bold step, but Nyesom Wike in Ikoku, Rivers State justified that the decision by Peter Obi was understandable and he further stressed that most politicians wouldn't have been able to sustain the kind of pressure Obi sustained.

However, Nyesom Wike has pledged that he won't leave the party, but rather, he will stay to fight against anyone trying to humiliate in which he referred to as armed robbers.

In his words, Wike said, “You were in our party, and I know why you left. Now let me tell you, the humiliation you suffered, I know. Most of you don’t know and nobody could bear what he passed through.”

“You (Peter Obi) left PDP because you have principles, but I will stay and fight the armed robbers. I will fight the vandals, I will fight the tigers, I will fight the hyenas. I will not leave this house, I will never allow armed robbers to take over my house. I am going to stay to chase away the armed robbers,” Wike added.

Why Tinubu may be disqualified over Drug Dealing Case-PDP Spokesman

A spokesman for the Atiku/PDP presidential campaign, Daniel Bwala on Thursday said Bola Ahmed Tinubu may be disqualified from contesting the 2023 presidential elections over his connection to a drug trafficking case in the United States.

Bwala made the comment during his appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

“I’m afraid that the conclusion of this case is that, from the eyes of the law, Bola may be disqualified from contesting if the matter goes to court,” Bwala said.

“Narcotics and money laundering, whether in Nigeria or the United States, is a criminal offence.”

Bwala was commenting on the controversy surrounding a document recently released by the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. The document contained evidence of Tinubu’s alleged involvement in narcotics and money laundering about 30 years ago.

The matter ended in a settlement which led to Tinubu’s forfeiture of $460,000 in one of the accounts linked to the former governor of Lagos State.

Bwala however argued that the issue at stake was a matter of character.

“For the Nigerian people, the source of the money is important, but there is still a cloud around drug related offences and drug related activity with somebody who wants to be the number one citizen of the country,” he said.

“Recently, there was a massive busting of cocaine in Nigeria. This idea of drugs and narcotics is a terrible case all over the world.

“And if someone has that questionable character and is elected as a President, what it means is that it will embolden people who are into those activities. That’s why the person has to come out clean.

Three Govs Who Stashed Naira Notes In Houses Plan To Pay Salaries In Cash – EFCC

SOME State governors are devising means to launder money they stashed in houses, chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Abdulrasheed Bawa has revealed.

Bawa, who did not name the concerned governors, said in an interview with Daily Trust that the Commission is closely monitoring the state chief executives.

According to Bawa, the EFCC is aware of plans by three governors to infiltrate the system with money through table payment of their state workers’ salaries.

The development is coming after the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) announced on October 26 that it would redesign the country’s currency over issues crippling the economy.

According to the CBN governor, N200, N500, and 1,000 notes would be redesigned as a move to counter terrorism financing and hoarding of banknotes.

Nigerians were directed to deposit the old notes in banks on or before January 31, 2023 as the re-designed notes would be released on December 15, 2022.

Speaking with Daily Trust on Thursday, Bawa said intelligence at the disposal of the EFCC revealed that two Northern governors and a Southern governor have concluded plans to pay salaries in cash.

“Let me tell you something, the intel that I have yesterday and I would want you to take this thing very seriously. Already, some state governors that have some of this cash stashed in various houses and the rest are now trying to pay salaries in cash in their state,” he said.

When asked whether the Commission would summon the governors, Bawa said they were being monitored closely.

He said the move is against Section 2 of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act.

“I don’t know how they want to achieve that but we have to stop them from doing that. Well, we are working, they have not paid the salaries in cash yet but it is a very serious thing.

“The law is very clear regarding cash transactions. Anybody that is to consummate any cash transaction as an individual, if it is not through a financial institution, it must not be above N5 million and if it is above that it is criminal for you to engage in such transaction. And for corporate entities it is N10 million,” the EFCC chairman added.

Miyetti Allah Demands Creation Of Nomadic Affairs Ministry

The Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, a Fulani Socio-Cultural Association, yesterday called for establishment of a federal ministry of nomadic affairs to broaden educational opportunities and address pastoralist challenges.

The association’s president, Abdullahi Bello Bodejo and the national secretary, Saleh Alhassan, made the call in Abuja after the national executive meeting with state chairmen of the association.

The association also demanded immediate designation, gazetting and development of all the 415 grazing reserves across the states “as the only first strategic step in addressing the challenges confronting Fulani herders in Nigeria.”

“This will include building of earth dams and solar boreholes, building of veterinary clinics, development of diary (milk) collection centres.”

The association condemned the recent massacre of Fulani pastoralists in Taraba State and urged the Inspector-General of Police to fish out the perpetrators and ensure justice is done to the victims’ families to prevent people resorting to self-help.

They said, “The meeting dismissed the consistent claims of farmers-herders’ conflicts as a major setback of instability and insecurity in Nigeria. But rather, the conflicts are exacerbated by activities of states sponsored vigilantes and tribal hordes who willfully continue to carry out extra-judicial killings of Fulani pastoralists.”

The meeting also condemned “the continuous profiling of Fulani pastoralists by Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom through the anti-grazing law.

Atiku Working For Miyetti Allah, Herdsmen Group – Ortom, Benue Leaders Reject Atiku

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has accused the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, of working with Miyetti Allah, a herdsmen group with a militant strain.
In what could be seen as a withdrawal of his support for Atiku Abubakar, the Benue State governor accused the PDP candidate of dishonoring him as Governor and working against the interest of Benue residents.

Ortom, who is reportedly incensed over Atiku’s comments on the recent killings by suspected herdsmen in Benue state, disclosed this on Tuesday at the Chapel of Grace, Government House, Makurdi.

He said: “It was not correct for a presidential candidate who is seeking to rule the people to say that kind of thing.

“It was very wrong. And it would appear that he doesn’t even reference me and consider me to be a Governor of my state.”

According to Ortom, the former vice president had sidelined him in selecting his presidential campaign team.

He said: “I am not in his campaign team. The people they appointed there, no consent from me. So I’ll remain on my own. But I’m waiting; when the election comes, we shall vote the election according to the election.”

Naija News reports that Ortom’s comment is coming after a group of elder statesmen in Benue, Minda Leaders of Thoughts, also withdrew their support for Atiku over alleged hate speech and profiling of Benue people.

Politics / UK Prime Minister Liz Truss Resign After 44 Days In Office by Gjrich(m): 2:00am On Oct 21, 2022
Liz Truss has resigned as prime minister and will step down after a week-long emergency contest to find her successor, she announced outside Downing Street on Thursday.

Here is her resignation statement:

I came into office at a time of great economic and international instability.

Families and businesses were worried about how to pay their bills.

Putin’s illegal war in Ukraine threatens the security of our whole continent.

And our country had been held back for too long by low economic growth.

I was elected by the Conservative party with a mandate to change this.

We delivered on energy bills and on cutting national insurance.

And we set out a vision for a low-tax, high-growth economy that would take advantage of the freedoms of Brexit.

I recognise, though, given the situation, I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative party.

I have therefore spoken to His Majesty the King to notify him that I am resigning as leader of the Conservative party.

This morning I met the chair of the 1922 Committee, Sir Graham Brady.

We have agreed there will be a leadership election to be completed in the next week.

This will ensure we remain on a path to deliver our fiscal plans and maintain our country’s economic stability and national security.

I will remain as prime minister until a successor has been chosen.

Thank you

UK Prime Minister Liz Truss resigns after failed budget and market turmoil.

Truss was in office for just 44 days, making her the shortest-serving prime minister in British history.
For 10 days of her premiership government business was paused following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
On Sept. 23, Truss’ finance minister, Kwasi Kwarteng, announced a so-called “mini-budget” which began a turbulent period for U.K. bond markets which balked at the debt-funded tax cuts he put forward.
Most of the policies were reversed three weeks later by the second finance minister, Jeremy Hunt.

British Prime Minister Liz Truss exits after 45-day stint
LONDON — U.K. Prime Minister Liz Truss resigned Thursday following a failed tax-cutting budget that rocked financial markets and which led to a revolt within her own Conservative Party.

Truss was in office for just 44 days, making her the shortest-serving prime minister in British history. For 10 days of her premiership government business was paused following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

She said in a statement outside 10 Downing Street, “We set out a vision for a low-tax, high-growth economy that would take advantage of the freedoms of Brexit.”

“I recognize though, given the situation, I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party. I have therefore spoken to His Majesty the King to announce that I am resigning as leader of the Conservative Party.”

The party is now due to complete a leadership election within the next week, much faster than this summer’s two-month period. Graham Brady, the Conservative politician who is in charge of leadership votes and reshuffles, told reporters he was now looking at how the vote could include Conservative MPs and the wider party members.

Liz Truss resigns as U.K. Prime Minister 45 days into her term
Truss’ resignation came after a meeting with Brady, who chairs the 1922 Committee — the group of Conservative MPs without ministerial positions who can submit letters of no confidence in the prime minister. Just before the meeting, a Downing Street spokesperson told reporters Truss wanted to stay in office.

During the hour the meeting lasted, the number of Conservative MPs publicly calling for Truss to step down reached 17. The number who had written letters to Brady expressing no confidence in the prime minister was reported to be more than 100 by Thursday.

The pound
was up 0.6% on the day against the dollar
at 5:00 p.m., trading at $1.128. It remains at the level it was on Sept. 22, before Truss’ market-moving budget. Gilt yields initially fell but were later flat on the day.

Opposition parties Labour, the Scottish National Party and the Liberal Democrats called for an immediate general election on Thursday afternoon. Labour leader Keir Starmer said, “The Conservative Party has shown it no longer has a mandate to govern.”

Difficult to imagine what a Tory ‘unity candidate’ might look like: Think tank
On Sept. 23, Truss’ finance minister, Kwasi Kwarteng, announced a so-called mini-budget which began a turbulent period for U.K. bond markets which balked at the debt-funded tax cuts he put forward. Most of the policies were reversed three weeks later by the second finance minister, Jeremy Hunt.

Truss beat Rishi Sunak to become leader of the Conservative Party following the resignation of Boris Johnson on July 7. Sunak is now one of the favorites to succeed Truss, along with Hunt, another leadership contender Penny Mordaunt, Defense Minister Ben Wallace and former Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The resignation leaves the status of the Conservatives’ expected budget update on Oct. 31 uncertain, but Truss said the leadership handover would “ensure we remain on a path to deliver our fiscal plans.”

In her statement, Truss suggested the legacies of her brief tenure were supporting households with energy bills and cutting the rate of national insurance, a general taxation in Britain. The cut was one of very few measures of the “mini budget” to remain; while the energy support package, which was initially set to run for two years, was reduced to six months.

She also said the U.K. had “continued to stand with Ukraine and to protect our own security.”

U.S. President Joe Biden said in response to the news: “The United States and the United Kingdom are strong Allies and enduring friends — and that fact will never change.”

“I thank Prime Minister Liz Truss for her partnership on a range of issues including holding Russia accountable for its war against Ukraine ... We will continue our close cooperation with the U.K. government as we work together to meet the global challenges our nations face.”

Regaining trust
Paul Dales, chief U.K. economist at Capital Economics, said the new PM would need to do more to regain the trust of financial markets.

“In just a few weeks fiscal policy has swung from being ultra loose, to less loose to outright tight,” he said in a note.

“Overall, the resignation of Truss is a step that needed to happen for the UK government to move further along the path towards restoring credibility in the eyes of the financial markets. But more needs to be done and the new Prime Minister and their Chancellor have a big task to navigate the economy through the cost of living crisis, cost of borrowing crisis and the cost of credibility crisis.”

Think tank Pantheon Macroeconomics said in a report on the U.K. Thursday: “A drawn-out recession lies ahead, now that overseas investors have lost faith in policymakers, forcing the [Monetary Policy Committee] to hike Bank Rate quickly and the government to tighten fiscal policy.”

The U.K. economy was already weakening before the “calamitous” mini-budget, the authors wrote. Looking forward, the nation faces a likely pullback in consumer spending, squeeze in households’ disposable incomes, lower employment, and higher interest rates “snuffing out” recovery in business investment, Pantheon added

Politics / Atiku Under Fire For Telling Northerners Not To Support Yoruba Or Igbo Candidate by Gjrich(m): 12:47pm On Oct 16, 2022
Atiku Under Fire For Telling Northerners Not To Support Yoruba Or Igbo Candidate As President.

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has come under fire over his statement at a political event.
Naija News reports that Atiku, during an Interactive Session with Arewa Joint Committee held on Saturday in Kaduna State, said Northerners need to vote for him because he is a Pan-Nigerian with a northern extraction that has built bridges across the country.

The former Vice President said Northerners do not need any Yoruba or Igbo candidate as the next President of the country in 2023.

He had said: “What the average Northerner needs is somebody who’s from the north and also understands that part of the country and has been able to build bridges across the country.

This is what the Northerner needs, it doesn’t need a Yoruba or Igbo candidate, I stand before you as a Pan-Nigerian of northern origin.”

Following the development, some Nigerians took to the micro-blogging platform, Twitter to slam the former Vice President for propagating ethnicity at the event.

While his supporters and PDP members defended the statement, saying the PDP presidential candidate was misquoted.

Iyorchia Ayu’s Children Will Disown Him If I Spill All His ‘Crimes’ – Nyesom Wike

Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike said on Friday that the children of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, will disown him if all the happenings in the party involving their father are made public.
Naija News reports that the PDP chieftain made the assertion while speaking during a live chat with journalists at the government house in Port Harcourt today.

Wike said there are a lot of events that have happened in the nation’s main opposition party but for the love of PDP will choose to remain mute. He stressed that Ayu’s child will go to their father and say ‘you are not our father’ if he should disclose his activities in the PDP.

This is as Wike who had earlier alleged that Ayu collected N1 billion from a politician in Lagos, stated further that the party leader also collected N100million from a state governor in the build-up to the 2023 general elections.

The Rivers State governor who had also with his allies maintained their stand that Ayu must resign his position for someone from the Southern part of the country, said on Friday that the party chairman is not a man of integrity.

Wike said he sees no reason why PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, will come from the North and yet the party national chairman is a northerner.

Internal Crisis: Kwankwaso’s NNPP Sacks South-West Chair, Names Replacement
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) on Friday announced the sacking of the South-West chairman of the party, Prince Ademola Ayoade.

NNPP, the party on which former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is seeking to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari come 2023, announced in a statement dated Thursday that was made available to newsmen, that the removal of Ayoade was necessary after it could not avoid the politician from an internal dispute.

The party’s secretary, Babatunde Oke, told journalists in Ibadan, Oyo State capital that the new NNPP South-west chairman is Alhaji Olayiwola Musbau.

Oke, however, noted that Musbau would be leading the zone in an acting capacity as the party progresses in the 2023 general elections.

The communique signed by all six South-West state chairmen and some party leaders following a zonal meeting in Ibadan noted that the removal of Ayoade was unavoidable after a vote of no confidence was passed on him.

NNPP explained that the decision was arrived at after following due process in removing the chairman.

The party stated that the process was done from Ward 4 in Ibarapa East Local Government Area of Oyo State and the decision was transmitted to the state leadership, where he was removed as chairman.

GoodLife4live:

If not for tribalism , and in a rightful sense who will support a known POLITICAL FRAUDSTER who has committed dis kind of attrocities .....
result of the verification:

1. I went to Peter Obi's house and I found not less than 10 bullet proof cars, all Government owned cars. I thought he said, he has not received even a Kobo from Government ?

2. Under Obi, Doctors in Anambra state were on strike for 13 months. They only called off when it was clear he wasn't going to listen to them. What kind of a leader is that ?

3. Under Obi, Anambra state was on strike for 6 months, twice. That's out of his 8 years tenure, the University was on strike for 1 year. When other states agreed to pay ASUU the amount agreed, Obi refused. When the VC complained, Obi sacked him and brought in the provost of the college of education. Even Buhari no do reach this one. Google is your friend. Check this.

This shows that when Obi becomes President, He won't give ASUU shishi and schools will be on Everlasting strike. Godforbid.

4. Peter Obi is a religious bigot who knows how to discriminate christians against christians, how much more will he do to Muslims if he can marginalize his fellow christians. How ? Obi gave 80% of all the schools in Anambra state to the Catholic Church. He told the other churches to go to hell. 70% of people in Obi's cabinet were Catholics. To get a job in Obi's Government, you must be a Catholic to stand a good chance. 90% of his personal staff were Catholics. Under Obi, he made sure only Catholics emerged as chairman of APGA until the party members got angry and chased him away for making APGA a Catholic party.

Before Obi became Governor, Anambra was one. But Obi introduced religion in Anambra politics. This is what he is trying to do by visiting churches.

5. Under Obi, SARS killed hundreds of youths and dumped them in a river. The Butcher of SARS CSP Nwafor was his right hand man. Go and ask Ndi Anambra.

Politics / Stop Trying To Use Money And Appointments To Lure Us, We Stand With Obi–Ohanaeze by Gjrich(m): 1:48pm On Oct 11, 2022
Stop Trying To Use Money And Appointments To Lure Us, We Stand With Obi – Ohanaeze Warns South-East Governor.

Apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has warned an unnamed governor to desist from using monetary promises to lure them into endorsing an unpopular presidential candidate.
Ohanaeze stated this while praising Afenifere and the Middle-Belt Forum for endorsing Peter Obi.

This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Secretary-General of Ohanaeze, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and made available to Naija News.

Isiguzoro, in the statement alleged that there was a plot by an unnamed South-East Governor to procure a fake endorsement for an infamous presidential candidate.

The group warned the Igbo governor in question to desist from using monetary inducements and fake appointments “to lure some of Ohanaeze chieftains into endorsing an unpopular and Presidential candidate as opposed to the popular choice of Nigerians, the Labor Party’s Presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi.”

The group noted that “the desperation of this South-East Governor will sink him politically.

The group said, “His stock in trade is to always go contrary and adverse to the popular position of Ndigbo because he’s a poor student of history. His plan to use the brand name of Ohanaeze to play dirty politics for an unpopular candidate has been discovered and he should repent or be retired from active politics. No amount of persuasion and inducement will reverse the position of Ndigbo in 2023.”

Speaking further, the group argued that Obi is not an Igno presidency movement but rather a Nigerian Project anchored on capacity, competence, and character.

“This clarification has become necessary for posterity’s sake. Ohanaeze join other ethnic groups like Afenifere, Middle-Belt Forum and PANDEF to insist that the rotational presidency between North and South is a must for equity and a Southern President should succeed President Buhari’s in 2023.

“We applaud the respected leaderships of Afenifere and Middle-Belt Forum for the adoption of Mr. Peter Obi as the best among other Presidential candidates based on age, fairness, competence and track records of accomplishment in governance which have been assessed and verified by Nigerians.

“This is the height of nationalism and patriotism by the leadership of the Southern and middle belt forum,” Ohanaeze added

Politics / Peter Obi Is Our Candidate – Afenifere Replies Akeredolu. by Gjrich(m): 1:29pm On Oct 11, 2022
Peter Obi Is Our Candidate – Afenifere Replies Akeredolu.

The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has restated its endorsement of Peter Obi, Presidential candidate of the Labour party (LP) as its choice for the 2023 elections.

The remarks followed a recent statement credited to Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, over the group’s endorsement of Peter Obi.

The governor, in a statement, said, “Afenifere doesn’t speak for the Yoruba people on the endorsement of Peter Obi and that Afenifere is divided in respect of the purported endorsement.”

But in its response, Afenifere said the decision to support Obi was a corporate decision of members of the group and some socio-cultural organisations in the country.

A statement by the Group read: “The attention of Afenifere has been drawn to the statement credited to Akeredolu on the Afenifere’s endorsement of Obi for the 2023 presidential election.

“To start with, we wish to reiterate the principled stance of the Afenifere that the next President of Nigeria should be from the South, and all things equitably considered, from the South-East, for which we consider Obi by his verifiable records as a two-term governor of Anambra State, the most competent and suitable.

“It is a well-considered corporate decision debated for over a year of regular monthly meetings, validly conveyed in the best tradition of the organisation.

“While we have our respect for Akeredolu and his colleagues of the Southern Governors Forum, which he leads, on their stand that it is only equitable that the next President of Nigeria after eight years of Buhari of Northern Nigeria extraction, should come from the South, we will not lend our support to those who betray that cause for the lucre of vice presidential porridge or those who see equity only from the parochial prism of their ethnic benefits.

“We wish to state for the umpteenth time that Afenifere is not an apolitical Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, but from its inception, political machinery as the embodiment of the worldview of the Awolowo School of Thought on how Nigeria, a country of ancient and entrenched nationalities, may best be equitably, inclusively and peacefully governed.

“These thoughts are encapsulated in the theory and practice of true federalism in its equitable and logical dimensions.

“Finally, let it be said that Afenifere is not alone in this decision that the next President should be from the South and South-East specifically.

“Afenifere conveyed its resolution through a press conference on September 26, 2022, and the Middle Belt Forum which converged in the Jos Township Stadium on September 28. Other ethnic nationality organisations, particularly of the Southern and Middle Belt Forum, of which Afenifere is a member and other well-meaning Nigerian leaders, are in agreement with this resolution which the nation needs most for an all-inclusive sense of belonging and attendant peaceful coexistence.

Politics / I Never Prophesied Against Peter Obi – Father Mbaka by Gjrich(m): 5:00pm On Oct 05, 2022
I Never Prophesied Against Peter Obi – Fr Mbaka

Reverend Father Mbaka, the Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry, Enugu, Nigeria (AMEN), has denied prophesying against the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi.

Father Mbaka in a new video on the AMEN’s official page, stated that he never mentioned the former Anambra State governor’s name during his sermon.

There had been reports that during a Sunday mass last week, the clergyman had uttered some prophecy against Obi, however, in his reply, Fr Mbaka advised those he termed purveyors of the fake news to apologise.

In further attempts to clear the air, Mbaka said “After handing over to Fr Anthony Amadi on Sunday, I started hearing that Fr Mbaka spoke against Peter Obi.

“I, Rev Fr Mbaka on that Sunday never mentioned Peter not to talk of Obi. Please whoever is being used by the devil to blackmail me in the name of doing any job for anybody, is satanic and should apologise, withdraw such nefarious, and satanic utterances and be careful when you want to harm the image of a man of God.

“Whoever did that, I have forgiven you, but I want to hear that you have apologised and withdrew what you said against me on that day. Just to put the Adoration ministry in trouble.

“Please as I have said, I heard some people are planning to protest. I have not asked anybody to protest for me. And I don’t want to hear that there is any protest done to express anger towards my journey to the monastery.

“Help me fellow adorers to stop any kind of protest that anybody will carry on my behalf to please me. Instead of the protest, or demonstration geared towards helping me, it may jeopardize my priestly call.

“Therefore, encourage peace, encourage love, within this time and do more prayers, and God of heaven will do the rest for us in Jesus name.”

There were also rumours suggesting that Mbaka had been removed from his position as spiritual director of AMEN, however, the Reverend Father stated that the information is wrong.

According to him, the mother church recommended that he spends some time in solitude at a monastery, a necessity hinged on the need for Mbaka to hear what the Spirit of God had to tell him.

Mbaka said, “I want to use this opportunity to bless you, encourage you as I depart to the monastery in obedience to my Bishop, His Lordship Callistus Onaga, I am going to the monastery under priestly obedience and I wish to encourage you fellow adorers to remain calm and be still.

“This is a time we shall know real adorers. Please back me with your prayers so that I will go and embark on deeper reflection, sober contemplations and interior waiting on the Lord.

“I want to assure you that God has plans for us for a future and hope and not of disaster. Use this opportunity to call on God for integral wellness and well-being of the adoration ministry that is the apple of God’s eyes.

“I wish to inform you fellow adorers that this is not a time to be cantankerous, sorrowful, and angry unnecessarily.

“Stand up in faith and I plead, do not give the devil any opportunity. As a catholic priest, I must obey the mother church under the vow of obedience. Please, in my absence don’t do anything that is awful, anything in any way shape of form give the devil iota of glory. Let us not fall into any trap that the devil has set.”

He urged all members of the Adoration Ministry to remain steadfast in prayer and obey Father Anthony Amadi, who will lead in the ministry while he is away.

Mbaka assured his followers that he will return to them in no time.

Politics / APC Rally: Scores Injured As Auxiliary's Supporters Attack Tinubu's Supporters by Gjrich(m): 6:56am On Oct 05, 2022
Breaking: APC rally: Scores Injured as Auxiliary Boys Attacks Tinubu Supporters In Ibadan.

Scores of the All Progressives Congress, APC, members in Oyo State, were allegedly attacked, yesterday, by the Chairman of the Park Management System, PMS, Mukaila Lamidi, fondly called Auxiliary.

It was gathered that Auxiliary, in a light green SUV alongside 10 other vehicles, intercepted APC members at Labiran junction and inflicted serious injuries on them.

Eyewitnesses told Vanguard that the timely intervention of security personnel saved APC members from being killed as they dispersed them with tear gas.

Confirming the attack in a statement, Yekeen Olaniyi, the media aide to Senator Teslim Folarin, described the attack as the height of lawlessness, brigandage and provocative capable of heightening the tension in the state.

The statement reads: “It was unbelievable that when Nigerians are celebrating the emergence of Bola Tinubu/Kashim Shettima as the flag bearer and running mate of the ruling party for the 2023 presidential election, some hoodlums like Auxiliary were planning to disrupt the peaceful rally.

“I was surprised that Auxiliary could attack members from behind when he knew the candidates were in the front. Auxiliary personally led the attacks at Iyana Labiran enroute Oje in Ibadan.

“As peaceful and law-abiding citizens, we won’t take laws into our hands. To this end, I call on law enforcement agencies to do the needful.

“Not minding the deadly attacks on our members by Makinde’s agents of darkness, we’re continuing our walk for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu/Kashim Shettima. The injured members are receiving treatments at an undisclosed hospital.”

Nothing of such happened—PMS

But reacting to the allegation, the PMS said nothing of such nature happened, adding that Auxiliary was not in Labiran or around the area at the time the incident happened.

The state Public Relations Officer, Emiola Jelili, said: “It should be noted that the PMS members had no reason to attack or interfere with members of the opposition APC on Tuesday because they were exercising their constitutional right to organize the rally and walk across the town.

“The PMS is reiterating for the umpteenth time that the opposition APC should stop drawing Auxiliary into its internal crisis and affairs. They should keep his name off their mouths.

“And it has also come to the habit of the APC in Oyo state to always mention Auxiliary every time they have any outing or event just to tarnish his image.

“Auxillary has his life to live, Oyo APC should keep his name off their lips and face the campaign

Chai. Shame of a people.

I watched this video yesterday and was like, what is the meaning of all these? Why would someone who said he is healthy go extra mile to prove he is indeed healthy? This is shame.

Just simply to attend peace accord signing, you couldn't. This is just a joke taken too far.

All these dramas are not just unnecessary but also stupi.d. If Tinubu is sick, we wish him quick recovery but this drama is so childish.

On a flip side, it is a pity that those who have posed all these years as patriotic Nigerians are the real haters of Nigeria. It's a pity. Shame on them.
