In law, you can plead leniency in any crime based on the conduct of the accused

For example, if you turn yourself in, it's a plus for you. It shows that you didn't stress the law enforcement agents and may be taken as a demonstration of remorse.

If you plead guilty, without stressing anyone or going on a while goose chase, it's another basis for asking for leniency
