Yes, they did , and it's due to african mentality first , then the fact that world was becoming a dangerous place

But what you left out is that your parents did not reject the gift for you , they taught you to reject it there and then by yourself , abi i lie ?

God wants us to love , give and gift to each other , many bible verses support this

and Finally , why didn't Mary reject the gifts from 3 wise men ?

some things are just wrong , no matter how you try to make it look
Psoul:

My father taught us to reject some certain gifts.
We have watched him reject certain gifts even when some of them are what we want/need.
Then we, thought he was just bn too righteous or stupid.
Wen we grew up, we came to see the virtue in those acts.
Learn to reject some certain gifts my dear no matter how tempting the gift may look.
Even God himself do reject beautiful gifts/sacrifices from some certain pple..

May God bless you for
Xclusiveme:
Aaaah Op, you didn't do well.
Inferiority complex took the best of you. If I was in your shoes, here's how i'll tackle the situation.
Wow, this gift is beautiful. Are you happy with the gift my darling? If yes then be happy too. Go to school next day and meet the child's parents and ask them how the child got the gift, if they were the one, appreciate them in a heartfelt way. Shikina, U go home and play the game with Ur daughter. Limit the fun though.
First of, gift from classmate isn't a hindrance to your child's education, morally or psychologically. It's just a harmless gift given to your daughter by her friend regardless of the price. You shouldn't be oppressed by gift simply because you can't afford it.
In this life no matter the situation you see yourself you have to be grateful for the things you receive.

That's how eternal bonds are built between parents and children

Yes, since we are africans , first of all throw away your religion because it's foreign culture , then stop education , go and learn ifa , you shouldn't even be on internet because you are african , stop hustling your daily job and go to farming or hunting because it's rich african culture , stop watching tv, listening to news , and ask the king's crier to give you updates periodically

Tueeehh

You people always hide under culture anytime it suits your narrative

You people are so obsessed with the foreign culture that you bleach your skin copy thier ways just to meet up and all self delusion. I bet, it will lead to premium tears. We are africans and we have a very rich culture but you people will come with "Africans evolve " obviously to the foreign culture. Shame on you.

I so much believe in our ways.

I wrote this days ago , this MF just screwed his child's life psychologically , if he does not have the support of his wife on this matter, the kid will show anything to her mum from now forthwith and she will hate her father for not letting her have nice things

simple mistakes that screws a child's mindset
Wharli3y:

The child having a mentality you always return his gifts won't want to bring gifts home again...

Hence lies would start and would escalate the more..

Why are Nigerians like this??

You did well. The bible says contentment is great gain. A girl child in Nigeria must be taught to be content and turn a blind eye to expensive gifts. The earlier you start, the better. I ain't raising no oloshos in my home.

Either way this is very bad , like very very unreasonable , but i am sure Buhari didn't write this law and i don't think senate and hor / whoever handles our laws were blind when this nonsense was drafted

when the kid gets to primary and secondary and even maybe university , we'll see how well you have suceeded as a parent

hahahahahah
Kay25:

you can allow it for your own children the rich mental person as far as I am concerned they have done the best thing in choice making just make your own child to keep accepting till he will accept invitation to join the bad wagon when you can't afford the things he or she would ask from you
Education / Re: School Birthday Will Make Your Child Greedy by GMBuhari: 11:03pm On Sep 24, 2020
I bet you can't have your child do a sleep over at a friend's house ?

How were you raised gaan sef ? this mentality is plain evil

even if they share gifts everyday , it doesn't affect learning, and yes, gifting, interaction among kids is part of learning process like i said in earlier comment, returning the gift looks bad on the kid and other kids could isolate her / keep malice with her and / or even bully her , this parent just damaged his kid's reputation , psychology and mentality

SET awon i go school , i learn book , but i no learn sense join

That's not an insult btw,
sammirano:

So itsgift parent send kids to school to receive niwadays and not learning. Believe it or not, the school fostered the concept of gift exchange.
Education / Re: School Birthday Will Make Your Child Greedy by GMBuhari: 10:59pm On Sep 24, 2020
Yoruba film took your sense from you

If indeed taking gifts could initiate your kid into witchcraft or something, then non of you in this generation shouldn't be witches or wizards

and yes nobody will give your child any gift because you can't afford the school of this caliber

and finally even if your child gets gift eventually , you won't know about it because your african mentality will let your child keep the gift to him / herself

Don't raise your kid with this type of mentality , even Jesus got gifts from 3 Wise Men , why didn't Mary return it

Swegbe
kenchop:
I concur, alot of children are been initiated into one evil or the other through gifts and parties. You absolutely did the right thing. Such habits of taking and asking for gifts increases their cravings for Material things and lure them to other vices. No body should give my kids and stupid gifts.

Education / Re: School Birthday Will Make Your Child Greedy by GMBuhari: 10:55pm On Sep 24, 2020
even throwing it away is stupid

Tell your kid he's too young to play it , tell your child there's age limit , tell your child to get all A's if they want to play the game ever

Keep it ontop of your wardrobe or something

After a few months (if you like) sell it on OLX and buy something more reasonable for your child

The kid will probably forget about it after a few months too

IT'S PLAIN STUPIDITY TO RETURN A GIFT and yes , MAD DISRESPECTFUL
Sagay212:

It's not show off or madness. The children already have enough educational materials. Like I said earlier, it wouldn't be a school for poor or average people. And even if you think it's madness, then you apply common sense. It is extreme madness and mad disrespectful to return a gift. What reason do you give for rejecting and returning the gift. If you don't want it, gift it to someone else. If you believe the gift is juju as you crazy nigerians always do,why not dash it out and buy another game for your child. It makes no sense returning a gift. Just phucking throw it away if you don't want.
Some of you will acquire all the education in the world but wont learn common sense.
Education / Re: School Birthday Will Make Your Child Greedy by GMBuhari: 10:51pm On Sep 24, 2020
no cap walahi

set awon do something and think later
Sagay212:

I swear when you come on the internet, you will understand that many people you see in real life who wear suit and tie and have high educational qualifications are actually daft and lack common sense, manners and courtesy. How can one not think of the implications of certain actions before taking it. How do you return a gift given to your child. How do you even go to the school or go face the parent and tell them you want to return the gift? What reasons will you give? Why not keep the gift and find a way around it if you don't want your child to have it. Dash it out to someone else and find a sensible explanation for your kid if you can even come up with one. How does the op expect her own child to feel, what about the celebrant and their parents? What about the friendship between the kids. Omo las las na to just accept say na different kinds of humans God create and one will always read, listen to and see strange things in this life. Very annoying topic.

sorry but brain is paining you

FG controls resources and there's still massive looting, what will happen when states control the inflow and outflow of money ? Extraordinary looting galore , yes you are right we treat everything with ethnicity and religious affiliations but then every state with their own set of looters is constant K

i think you mean to say we should fight this injustice to Nigerians in general, lynch looters because justice system has failed us , destroy their properties , attack those who are protecting them , If / when they realize we the masses are the real government, their brains will reset

but trust me , state controlling resources isn't the solution for now , Tinubu's cousins do not control NDDC , it's Niger Deltans

Tinubu is not related to Ibori or Alamesigya ( forgive the spelling) and they both looted with impunity

Still reading this thread, opinions differ, but in reality those attaching spiritual meanings to this gift issue , you are all very stupid

those who are saying the OP is right , you probably don't have kids and you are all very stupid

returning the gift is / was and will always be disrespectful

and that kid will suffer the consequences psychologically

for instance , if the kid gets any gift, even the ones that could kill her , she won't bring it home anymore and that's for starters

two , her friends will probably mock her , if you know how kids in school behave , you'll understand this point , they may even gang up and avoid your kid , so what's the essence of going to school if you can't have friends

the celebrant's parents and celebrant will probably hate that kid , returning the gift is an affront , a slap on the face of the parents

By your hand you just created a stigma for your kid

I am sorry but this too is a stupid comment, if you are one of the few who haven't been harrased by SARS , then congratulations

I am in many groups on whatsapp , my whatsapp automatically saves pictures and such , they go to your gallery and see any picture with dollar sign in it , or something of that nature , even forex groups on whatsapp can cause SARS to kill you wherever you are and then

This is not about being guilty , it's about abuse of power and murdering youths at their convenience

Even if you do not have anything incriminating , if they raid your street or your house , and find nothing, they will collect fuel money from you and this screnario is if you are extremely lucky

I have seen people who do only FIVER gigs online get arrested ,detained and extorted

I have been arrested for having Nintendo WII gunpad, ( image below) they called me armed robber, and that's after they searched my house my pc and my phone and found nothing

Please let's be sensible , Please i beg you
jaxxy:

What do u mean by surrendering tho? If Ure not guilty u stay and deal with the situation appropriately no matter what. If Ure guilty meaning a fraudster then pay ur tithe to sars. Whatelse. I only pity people who are innocent and get ripped off by sars. I believe there shud be better ways to address this using the system.

Now if/when u run u open/expose urself to multiple of scenarios most of which u have no control over. The worst scenario is what happened to the guy very sadly.

But SARS is a general problem we should all fight against , not Yeasterners alone and don't make mockery of this incident , 3 under 25 y/o guys were chased to death in Osun last week or so by JTF/ SARS , it happened in Ekiti yesterday too , they shot someone in the leg

We can't be divided over the maltreatment by SARS
