@bartolo I think you are right on target. OBJ wanted Fayose gone and wanted his deputy - Olujimi to take over (did you notice that when she came back from abuja, she brought with her trucks full of security personnel - apparently with OBJ's backing), but the Ekiti House of Assembly impeached both the governor and the deputy. Instead of trying to intervene through diplomacy, OBJ quickly instituted a state of emergency. What has taken place in Ekiti that has made OBJ quickly resort to this ? He did not even attempt to bring the parties together and talk it out first. This to me is simply a blatant abuse of power on the part of Obasanjo. It is that simple. Honestly, OBJ is running a one man show in Nigeria. I'm not even sure if he consulted with anyone from the National Assembly or else where before imposing the state of emergency. I don't know what it is OBJ's government is practicing, but it sure isn't democracy. God Bless Nigeria. |

Drusilla:Drusilla, there are lots of instances that can be referenced that indeed points to the white man's divide and rule nature regarding africa, but believe me, I grew up in Nigeria, there are plenty of diiferences in our culture as africans. We are not that homogeneous at all. When people like babyosisi and donzman (now including me) suggest that it would be better for you to live in an african country to have first hand experience, we are not trying to undermine your knowledge, not at all. This is just one of those instances were you have to "live it" to have a deeper understanding. And we are by no means saying we are not africans or we are better than other africans (e.g. Kenyans). This is far from the truth. You seem to think that those of us trying to highlight the fact that we are Nigerians and want to be referred to as such, have bought into the white man's ideology of "divide and rule". Again, this is far from the truth. In my opinion, the best and only way of getting an understanding of this is to physically be there for a period of time. There's no exception to this. |
Ka: Dude you are something else. I wonder who is right between you two, I'm sure he knows ![]() |

This would be my question to IBB: General Babangida, do you think it was a mistake for you not to appear at the Oputa panel in order to clear your name ? Now that you want to run for President in 2007, don't you think people would feel you had something to hide by not clearing your name at the panel ? Thanks, GNature. |

Well, I just finished watching a piece on the Lacrosse players on 60 minutes (cbs). It appears the players did not rape the lady, but the DA is pressing on with the case any how. The players might have mistreated her in some way and she wants to get back at them through the rape charge. Think about it, the lady said she was raped without a condom, yet none of the DNA's of the players' matched. Na waa for America sef. |
@Bhola How are you doing ? I think I am going to Christen you as Nairaland's Oprah Winfrey Aah, you are actually in Iraq ? God protect you while you are there oo |
interesting thread |
@adconline I already listed power supply (under infrastructure). Yes, you mentioned a few more reasons I did not list (I didn't list them all). All of your concerns are accurate and legitimate. |
omofineboy:If my views to you are myopic, then why bother respond ? Once again, you are contradicting yourself. omofineboy:So you say, but you continue to comment ! omofineboy:Who said that's a good percentage of job creation ? Please point out were this was said or implied omofineboy:There are several obstacles keeping foreign investors from coming to Nigeria that are beyond the hands of the President 1. Our Very Young Democracy. We really need to prove to the world that we are ready to embrace democracy for the long haul. Our young democracy, with disputes between the executive and legislative arms of government, needs to be fully sustained if we really want to see the much needed foreign investors come in. 2. Religious vilolence. Once the muslims in the North hear something said about Islam, they start killing people all over the place. When Nigeria was going to host the Miss World beauty peagent, the northern muslims threatened them and they had to be flown from Abuja to London where it finally took place. No foreign investor would want to come and establish their business with all this religious tension going on. 3.Volatility of the Niger Delta. I think this is self-explanatory 4. Advanced Fee Fraud (419). This has really tarnished our name and is definately keeping foreign investors at bay. 5. Lack of infrastructure. Power Supply is a major deterrent to foreign investors coming to Nigeria. As you may be aware, OBJ is currently building about 13 new power stations to boost our power supply. Please bear in mind that OBJ inherited a big rot in the system and it will take quite sometime to clean up the rot. omofineboy:I am taking this view once again because I believe both his achievements and demerits should be highlighted. I don't feel we should just talk about were he under-performs, as is the case with you. And please, I am not rich, neither have I forgotten my past. This is an open forum were everyone expresses their views and opinions on issues. You should not subject yourself to arbitrary name calling because someone has a different view on an issue than you do. |
How did the members of the panel clear Fayose with all the evidence against him ? Kai, we have a long way to go before Nigeria reaches the promise land. |
@feelgood Transcorp does not belong to Obasanjo, OBJ bought shares in the company, 200 million shares according to the media. But this same Transcorp has been buying high profile assets in Nigeria including the Nicon Nuga Hilton Hotel, Abuja and most recently, Nitel. Also, the Director-General of Nigerian Stock Exchange is a director in the company. So the fear is that there is too much conflict of interest going on. People are thinking the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) probably sold these companies to Transcorp because of OBJ's stake in the firm. Now it appears the President wants to divest his shares in the company as a result of public outcry on the issue. So, OBJ DOES NOT OWN TRANSCORP OO. |
