Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Unemployment- Non-graduates Are Cheating Graduates In Nigeria by Gnexplore: 11:51pm On Sep 30, 2013
peppy luv: And what is ur definition of an illiterate?
Literacy is all about knowing how to read and write and this is acquired at the foundation level ie pre-primary and primary and 90% of this people u call illiterates went to high school so does the fact that they didn't get into the tertiary institution make them illiterates?
You and I know that 89% percent of Nigerian graduates are not better than the people u call illiterates. They just go to school to answer graduate but they are dumber than the school cleaners. If you hear most of them speak u wil bow your head in shame. Some of my co corp members especially a grl called oduayo, are worse than the villagers we teach, they use "him" for both male and female, the use of present and past tense is even worse. Imagine sec schl kids calling a corp member "village girl" even to her face!
Besides in camp we are advised and taught to acquire skills but you see many corp members feeling too big to do so but go to togo, even the bricklayers are graduates!
So,nobody is cheating anybody. There is no job specially made for graduates and non graduates what Nigerian youths don't understand is the dignity in labour! Be proud of whateva puts food on ur table, learn a skill, carpentry, tailoring or u call it design, you can go into farming etc
Most of the roadside mechanics are better than our graduate Engineers.

As for me I am a proud teacher and farmer. my frnds thought I was jokin when as a child I said I wanted to teach and farm but today they see it differently cuz of what have been hapnin in my life so far and they are proud of me cuz I am a teacher with a difference smiley
You also knw the story of Bill gates so no need for long story.
Bro rather than waiting for govt, pls do something for urself and if u feel the artists are making too much money then join them or stop patronising them.
My take!

Very wonderful life philosophy you have .... God be with you!!!

Properties / Swede, 94, celebrates new driving licence by Gnexplore: 11:49am On Sep 20, 2013
Bertil Josefsson from Lidköping, central Sweden, will turn 95 next month and splashed out on a new car to celebrate. He's had his driving licence since before the outbreak of World War II, 1938 to be exact, and intends to keep motoring for a while to come.

"I'll drive for as long as I can. There aren't any limits," the pensioner told the Expressen newspaper.

He added that he takes his shiny new Volkswagen Golf out four times a week from his home in Saleby to catch up with some friends in Lidköping.

"I go into town to eat some cake and talk shit with the old boys," he said.

The 95-year worked as an electrician until he was 80 and was dubbed the "angel of light". He's been a widower for seven years and admits he likes to keep busy, saying that retirement is "hell."

He added that he hasn't much time for speed racers on the roads who he referred to as "idiots".

"There are many idiots in traffic and they drive where they can't even see properly. I drive a maximum of 70 or 80 [kilometres per hour]," he said.

According to the Swedish transport agency (Transportstyrelsen) a total of 6.2 million people have a driving licence in Sweden. Of those 6.2 million it is estimated that 1.5 million are aged 65 or over.

Josefsson says he doesn't know anybody else of a similar age who has a driving licence saying his oldest driving friend is a sprightly 88 years young.

"There are no tricks to be honest. No morning exercise... but I have worked many days where I had to be able to crawl under a house."

Although a challenging development for the 1st wife... is still better than any news ...that he RIP the first wife....

It pays not to remain in a union that undermines ones' peace-of-mind.

What he did is what some dude don't gave the gut to do

And some ladies here (NL) wish there brothers, uncles or stepbrothers have same courage to end 'peaceless union' they are in......

Am sure the 1st wife will find a more favorable union.....very soon.......

Health / Swede Finds 'dead' Boyfriend Breathing by Gnexplore: 3:54pm On Jan 26, 2013
A Swedish man declared dead in hospital was resuscitated after his girlfriend, who came to say her final goodbye, realized he was still breathing.

The incident in May 2012 in Värmland County has left the 31-year-old man with memory glitches, balance problems and recurring nightmares, he said in a report of the incident to the National Health Board (Socialstyrelsen).

“Lucky for me that my girlfriend was there, without her I wouldn’t be here today,” he wrote.

His girlfriend, who also submitted her account of events in the medical malpractice report, said she was told by a nurse 30 minutes after taking her boyfriend to the emergency room that he had passed away.

Yet upon entering the room with the nurse and speaking with two doctors, she saw her boyfriend exhale. The medical staff explained that the body was simply getting rid of carbon dioxide.

But upon the girlfriend’s insistence, they restarted resuscitation attempts once they had sent her back to the waiting room.

About 20 minutes later, a doctor informed her they were trying to revive him despite initially thinking he was brain dead. She said the doctor warned there could be permanent damage.

The reason the 31-year-old was rushed to hospital is not detailed in the account, but his girlfriend asks why there was not more knowledge of the effects of Lyrica, an anti-convulsant and anti-anxiety drug.

“The staff should know more about Lyrica, e.g. that ingesting it causes dilated pupils,” the complaint read.

“If I had left, what would have happened to him?” she added.

Her boyfriend says he is now unable to work. He suffers memory lapses and concentration difficulties. Despite being offered work installing ventilation, his profession for a decade before last year’s incident, he turned it down.

“My job requires mental and physical strength. And I feel I’ve lost my mathematical thinking,” he wrote.

“I noticed it when I tried putting up two shelves on a wall and had to give up. I felt sad and frustrated when I realized this had to be because of brain damage.”

The young man said he now has to put up notes everywhere so he won’t forget things, but is plagued by frequent worrying.

He also said he felt violated by being declared dead without being further examined.

“I hope this never happens to anyone else!!!”

Family / Teen Sectioned Due To Gaming 'addiction' by Gnexplore: 9:46pm On Oct 28, 2012
The boy was so focused on his game playing that he physically attacked his father whenever he asked his son to stop playing.

Police were also called to the family's home on several occasions, according to the court ruling authorizing the boy be committed to institutional care, the Metro newspaper reported.

The frustrated parents first contacted social services last year after their son's incessant computer game playing caused his health to deteriorate and resulted in a "non-functioning circadian rhythm".

After efforts by social workers proved fruitless, the parents turned to the courts in hopes they could get help for their son through Sweden's Care of Young Persons Act (Lag med särskilda bestämmelser om vård av unga – LVU).

According to the statute, young people, generally between 12- and 21-years-old, can be taken out of their homes by social services and housed in facilities run by the National Board of Institutional Care.

Around 20,000 young people in Sweden are placed in special treatment homes each year, either due to family problems or because of their own behavioural problems, including criminal activity and addiction.

In its ruling, the court found that the 16-year-old's parents lacked the tools to deal with their son's computer gaming problems and thus ordered he be sent to a treatment home.

While the boy insists he is not addicted to computer games, a judge with the Malmö Administrative Court which ruled on the case disagreed.

"If playing computer games results in a person foregoing everything else, it's comparable to an addiction," Judge Ola Brändström told Metro.

Psychologist Owe Sandberg, one of Sweden's most prominent experts in gaming addiction, told the paper that he is contacted daily by distraught parents who are concerned about their children's gaming habits.

"The reward system is the same for World of Warcraft as it is for drugs," he told Metro, lamenting a lack of recognition of the problem by authorities in Sweden.

Most calls concern boys who are 16 or 17 and have dropped out of school as a result of their gaming.

"Some have this crazy notion that they can support themselves doing it, and they totally lose a grip on their lives," he told the paper.

Sandberg thinks computer gaming addiction should be a medical diagnosis of its own.

The case isn't the first time a Swedish teen has been sectioned for computer gaming addiction. In 2010, the Växjö Administrative Court ordered a 16-year-boy be placed in treatment after computer gaming caused him to skip school for several terms and he threatened to commit suicide.

Education / Kids Of Illegal Immigrants Can Go To School by Gnexplore: 9:30pm On Oct 28, 2012
"Children without a residency permit will have the right to education" from kindergarten to secondary school, it said in a statement.

Sweden's use of personal identity numbers has essentially barred children of illegal immigrants from public education, and schools have been required to contact police if registration requests were made for an undocumented child.

The new law scraps that requirement, but schooling will still not be mandatory for children of illegal immigrants.

"All children have the right to go to school ... and their right (to do so) will become legal," Education Minister Jan Björklund said at a press conference.

For undocumented children, going to school "means being normal, (it brings) stability, routines to an often precarious existence," said the Green Party's spokeswoman on immigration, Maria Ferm.

The government will provide an annual budget of 50 million kronor ($7.4 million) starting in 2014, to help the municipalities where the children go to school. Half the annual amount has been set aside for next year.

Between 2,000 and 3,000 children will be affected by the new law, according
to Björklund.

you know very well that even UK dont pay high for labor as much as any Scandinavian country does and what makes you think that you will get good pay in canada compared to your present country.
i also think have a permanent residence in any of the Scandinavian country is a very good thing and i think you know this urself

Thank you for your points and advice.
Davedavy:

If i were you,i would wait and get the permanent resident permit (PR) and with this i believe you can file for citizenship. At least right now,you have a job (though unprofessional). If you are keen on furthering your education,i believe education is free in most of the Scandinavian countries up to Phd level, why not take that advantage?.
Besides which country are you? Traveling to Canada now to start all over again is not the best option, don't rely on any job to augment your tuition fees and other bills, that is risky, what if you wouldn't find any job or the pay isn't enough to patch things up.

Moreover, you mentioned you are married, and probably with kids i guess. Please think this over and over again before plunging into decision.

All the best.

Thank you for your points and advice.

What will you do, if you are in shoe?

Am 38 years old married man and had concluded a graduate program in the Scandinavia country, three years back. However, it has been difficult to secure professional job. At same time, I thank God that I have unprofessional job that has placed me on the part for permanent residence in two years time.

Also, three years back I did apply for “Skilled workers and professionals” of Canada which is still in primary process stage. Consequently on this delay I applied for graduate admission into University of Ottawa for Jan. 2012 beginning. Thank God also, I did secure the admission and the student visa, although I will need job on/off campus to foot my tuition and other bills.

My questions are:

1. Should I wait and get my permanent residence in two years, than going off to Canada this January 2012

2. How easy is it to secure job on / off campus in Ottawa?

3. What is the impact of earlier “Skilled workers and professionals” if i move to Canada as a study?

4. What is impact of age?

5. Is there other alternatives or advice?

Your advices and contributions are appreciate and thank you.
