The S.A corrolas and Avensis had numerous defects. Especially transmission and ABS. Sadly in Africa you don't hear of recalls.

Don't thank me yet We just ruled out the possibility of electrical glitches, and a misaligned shift cable. torque converter and pump are failing In my opinion, continue to use until it dies completely. a used transmission is about 100-150k. Ensure you have the right transmission oil and its still bright pink. Transmission might still serve you for years in this condition.

Thanks a mill Gazzuzz..really appreciate..will just wait for the transmission to fail then change it or if the acting up becomes frequent..i will sure do this change at your shop..yes I used T4 and only changed the oil last month.

Im at a loss though as to y this would happen...I change my gear oil and gear filter frequently since I purchased the vehicle and have always used T4 and Mobil 1 for the engine..isnt this the correct oil to use?

I also drive a 2009 corolla and use T4 as gear oil...please is this oil the recommended oil?

repair history of the transmission? Does it happen on all gears? Do you have to wiggle the gear selector for it to engage? Try this next time, start car, Rev to 2rpm for 60 secs after that let of of the pedal and place in drive, does is work immediately?

So this morning I revved it to 2rpm @ 60 secs as recommended and let of the pedal then placed in drive, it engaged immediately..thanks

Thanks for your response. The gear has not been repaired previously, no it only happens when i initally put the gear on D after a long park but it never happens on reverse and after it has engaged, it works perfectly...no i dont have to wiggle the gear selector for it to engage..

i will try the recommended and revert...or better yet please can i have an appointment so i drive it down to you?

I intend doing a scan at jungle bustop at the new mechanic workshop..it hear they have a bigger scanner or please what do you recommend?

Good job you doing bro. please I have a 2009 avensis that has been acting up recently..i noticed that sometimes when I put the gear on drive the gear wont engage and when I push the throttle it will rev like its on neutral. eventually the gear engages and the drive is smooth and normal with the gear transmission seamless..i have taken it for a scan and ABS fault was detected. this was worked on and some sensors changed but howbeit, the same thing has happen thrice since I got the car back.

Sometimes when I put the gear on D, it will delay before engaging but when it engages it drives perfectly. Please what's your opinion about this?
