people fighting for union are either silly or definitely are not the owners of their cars,, imagine after spending ur hard earned millions to purchase a car, some idiots will now want to tell you wen to work and when not to, for their own selfish reasons ..
Second thing is tolls, unions in Lagos seems they can't survive without collecting tolls, how LL u feel when agbero start collecting tolls from every ehailing driver all in d name of union and security?

I was at frsc office yesterday waiting to collect some stuff nd I was having a gist with a woman der, nd she was like since I'm into ehailing dat I should plz get her some trusted drivers 4 her and a college and I'll have to stand 4 Dem nd run all procedures 4 Dem, I just laughed nd stylishly declined.
People are buying cars like pure water all in d name of ehailing.
Anywhere I go people ll be like bro I want buy car for Uber, wetin be d procedure.

My point is hundreds of cars join Uber on a daily basis, where as the riders are not increasing, Uber/taxify ll hv no choice but to reduce the fares in order to woo more riders in..
If ehailing is not paying as you wanted plz drop ur rental car and look for other business to do Biko
And this post rite here is the reason why there wont be progress in e hailing...if I recall you said you haven't driven yet on the platform so all the experience you have is what you have read here...bro you sud drive and really understand wetin the drivers dey face..it aint pretty

Its really surprising to me how people envy others but don't know the price paid to achieve the enviable success..Uber drivers the world over have unions..i mean in the UK, US, France..ok make we leave developed countries find our own mate..Kenya, Uganda, South Africa..just name it...How much is the money that you will contribute to the union that wont make you eat again..yes the corruption part is true but then you hold the leaders accountable...

Uber drivers in Kenya went on strike when the fare was cut to 35 shillings per km..they called off the strike when it was increased to 42 shillings per km..Uber drivers in Mumbai went on strike and the transport minister shocked had to intervene grin..80% of their demands were met..mind you india`s case was pathetic..as is the case in Nigeria now..extremely low fares because of more drivers entry into e hailing so the companies crashed the price because demand and supply chain was broken in the market dynamics...

Uber drivers in the Uk won a landmark case that gave them rights to be classified as workers rather than self employed..the ruling meant drivers are now entitled to holiday pay, paid rest breaks and national minimum wage grin

Uber driver in France, Usa, Uk, just name it have all gone on strike at some point or the other yet we will be here calculating what these drivers earn per trip and how their lives are better but forgetting that they pay the price everyday for their future.

Uber Nigeria is very happy that there is no Union or if there is, its not pulling its weight..its to their benefit because for them divide and conquer is the strategy they employ even if the union wants to take shape..they understand the power of a unified voice..the power to hold the company by their jugular or balls..not just holding it but squeezing the life out of it grin

I picked a rider when i was driving, the man told me his a full time uber driver in the Uk..he was on holiday in Nigeria shocked shocked..FULL TIME UBER DRIVER...can uber driving in Nigeria save you enough money to go on holiday to Togo?

We must wake up as these companies are exploiting the drivers..instead of complaining this is the step to take..our brothers in other countries have shown us the blueprint and they r reaping the rewards..there is no other way..

i have nothing to gain from these suggestions but as an ex driver its annoying to me the level of exploitation...if we cant think in this pattern then please lets stop complaining and endure the slavery and if you cant endure then QUIT

I wish we all come together and firm a union...
Honestly Bro this the only way...it's worked in other countries and it will work here...imagine ALL drivers striking for a week,..do you know how much dem e hailing guys go lose? Hmm but yet again will everyone cooperate? Plus it will take alotta sacrifice cause alotta folks depend on daily driving which is okay so don't know how dey will cope..

But sacrifices must be made to secure the future

I think there is a union already and they have tried to strike in the past but with no desired results.

I'm not the type dat reason one way, I play around with thoughts till situation gives the perfect view, taxify or uber are not wicked, they have a data base they work on, so once supply is more than demand they reduce price, at the end who bears the burnt? For them, more cars more money as long as demand is reasonable enough (for every drivers cry of no trip, another drivers r sharing the few once and they commission is still at moderation). So reduction favours them as long as they don't reduce their %, can't u see uber is fast taking the space of byke wit 350 trips, where rider we tell u she's going to Akerele from Adeniran Ogunsanya (I was like, seriously? )

Either metaphor or not, the chances of reducing the price is high, right now they r drivers parked somewhere checking dia app often, staring @ 4 trips 2700 since morning, dis can make one appreciate danfo drivers/ keke rider more... There is really nothing uber/taxify can do, cos if with this price, ppl still can't afford the service satisfactory, little traffic, rider starts feeling unease, the worst scenario if things don't pick up in the next four months, they will b decline in driver - partner business, as owners will b force to drive or join the fence gang.
Very true bro...very true...every business wants to maximize profit...so it favours them to reduce price...I only wish drivers could come together and force their hands...without the driver there will be no uber or taxify...all is well.

i used to think i Was The only one in this dilemma. Though you'll never See Me complain or biitch on the experience of this hustle, but bro I've seen things.
I've blown all the way from ojuelegba to Cele to pick a rider to ago palace way, on a treacherous road, for #400 grin. But then they're beautiful days too that I was tipped #15k for a #2000 trip, by a very young rider smiley. I closed early on Sunday after hitting #19k within 8hrs cool. Just went to hangout with a friend I've not seen in a long time.
The hustle comes with it's highs and lows, but the complaints won't change anything. The perks comes with the territory. Just hold the positive thoughts, and pray feverently for a breakout or breathrough,or whichever comes first. God bless and keep everyone. May the hustle not be in vain wink
wow @ bolded...positive mind is all we`ve got else person suppose don craze tey tey...even the state of the country is enuff to make someone go bunkers.

But like you said..we gats hold on to the positives to maintain sanity..

Better days ahead.

BusinessRe: If You Are Uber Partner In Lagos, Please Share Your Experience Here by gobuchinny:
Stealth100:
I drive once in a while but I intend to drive for some months now to sustain my immediate family while I wait for my other investment to yield. So I drove on Sunday, after getting a "long" trip (Agege to Agungi) for 3500 including toll and taxify fee, I got about four short trips on uber all averaging 350naira per trip.

After three hours in lekki, I had less than 1500 net. That is ridiculous. I almost started thinking low of myself. Nobody should get less than 500naira an hour for any job. I know some here will talk about me feeling entitled and that drivers earn above minimum wage. Hell yeah I should feel entitled if I am putting forward my car and time to partner with uber/taxify. I should earn way more than minimum wage because I'm investing my time and property(car).

This pay should never be okay for anyone, driver or partner. Fine, we have to grind and make ends meet but we can also complain or protest for a better take home while we manage what we get currently. I'm sick of people attacking partners when they complain about uber/taxify unrealistic fares. These companies have succeeded in messing with the heads of some of us.
Because I complain bitterly about the fares doesn't mean I will stop driving immediately, but we should never be okay with this slavery whether we're doing it short term or long term.
True bro, the pay is not realistic and ridiculous...it's below par esp considering the facts as stated above...I experienced all these when I was driving..there have been times while driving I felt silly..u can imagine driving longer distance to pick rider only to drive short distance to drop off shocked..esp island..the ones that just wanna go buy food two streets away or use the atm or wanna go c their friends in the next street shocked...even me as a rider I no get mind request uber for silly short trips...and if I ever do I make sure I pay the driver 1k for that useless 350 or less than 500 naira trip...ALWAYS..

There was a time i carried a rider, a long distance trip I can't recall the exact pick up and drop off but u know those trips u r on and you just dey smile like mehn I don hammer, i go close after this trip..when I ended the trip and saw the fare my jaw dropped...d rider even noticed my surprise and I saw how she smiled...she didn't add anything instead wanted her change...when she left tears welled up in my eyes..I just weak...I couldn't even drive again I just closed and blew empty to my house depressed and defeated vowing never to driver again...next morning I was out again driving grin

But as hard as it was and as ridiculous the fare I never took it out on my poor riders nor insulted uber grin yes i complained esp to my wife and friends but not trying to run down their business...I knew it was slavery. ..that the real winners were the e hailing companes and riders..the drivers were just scrapping....but that's their business model and didn't force anyone to accept it or drive..so if I must drive then I get with the programme... yes these guys are task master and I can only blame the drivers because noone is acting..the few guys that tried to act by striking the support base was poor...try and read up about uber strike in other countries..that's the PVC of the drivers..the only power they have..,hence the importance of that union which many guys here castigated...

For me, my mind set was just keep driving and feeding my family, work hard and yes this driving business is hard work...your back will pain you...you hands will become heavy even for any veteran but at least it puts food on the table. ..uber should never be a permanent hustle, that's y stories like those of nitigriti inspires me and should inspire any driver also...

See its the same attitude we carry into our own grind or other job opportunities...things will never be perfect or our tables served...in everything let's just be grateful

I'm not against lamenting as this is a driver forum..its OK to vent but not the way some guys go about it here like it's a totally hopeless situation...there is hope

Much respeck bro

You cant do 20 trips in a day bro..i never did and im yet to c anyone that did..

All im saying is if e hailing is all you have make good use of it and not complain..work hard and if the hustle aint for you QUIT.

i know so many hard working drivers that are looking for cars to drive on the platform so if you have one just drive and if it aint working sell it or give it out

Truth is ive always been an advocate of strike but alotta guys dont buy into that..i c the way it worked in other emerging economies where uber operates..

grin
Nyen nyen nyen
No need to insult me bro..just make ur point clean and clear...I said 20 trips because in a day you will most likely not get 350 naira trips till you close..you will get a mix of short trips and some moderate trips and if lucky long trips..

All im saying is even if you making 7k per day less 3k fuel you are fine though its hard work esp if the car is yours...money is not picked in the streets of Lagos and though there is soft work but if hardwork is all you have for now..make good use of it grin

No im not a mumu..im only an ex driver who survived driving and believes anyone can do same also esp if that's all they have for now

Uber bizness still puts food on the table besides he should have comprehensive insurance..whatever your hand findeth to do..do it well..this bizness still puts food on the table for many..how much is minimum wage..if you are not happy with the fare then QUIT...

You have not been following the politics of Lagos State. ..the igbos don't have an issue with Sanwo olu infact he favours them business wise..it's Buhari they don't like..if you followed the news you will know that ohnaeze endorsed sanwo olu even ifeanyi ubah was out with sanwo olu campagning in this areas where igbos r densely populated in lagos..

Igbos vote for people not party..Ypp won in Anambra State which is a stronghold for APGA..anyway its easy to talk online but the real power brokers know what happened.

Those results means the igbos delivers on their promise for sanwo olu as stated by Ohnaeze. .

Please get your politics ideology right..I won't argue with you but with little research you will see what I'm typing is the politics on ground..

No you cant unless you have the knowledge...I can't recognise one myself hence the need to go with a competent mech..

Furthermore, I guess checking the VIN should reveal alotta dirt like I understand it's most European avensis that r converted..you might wanna confirm that piece of info as regards continent as I don't have exact details as I type...so if it's so and the VIN tells you were it's manufactured, then you know it's converted

1k fuel everyday to Gberige, Ikorodu, Ota or whereever that is does not sound smart to me. Is it not better to use that 300,000 to get a self contain at Ifako or Ogba? At Gazzuzz side, one can get a self contain for 200k. At College road, one can get a room and parlour for 300,000.

Why I said its not smart is because if you times 1,000 by 365 in a year.... thats 366,000. Not to talk of the risk of travelling that side at night, increasin the mileage of the car more and finally.... Heavy traffic! Quality of life is important in this job. Most of you already stayed in traffic all through the day. Why stay in more traffic at night? This job is no longer as it used to be. Am dashing out or selling of my car to any close friend (Don't even have) or Family (Most likely). Let me do better things with my life.
With all our differences this post right here is wisdom and the honest truth...I guess it's becos folks don't actually calculate the total cost vis a vis tenor..but paying 1k daily on fuel is easy and pocket friendly but actually when collated on a year tenor it's amazing how much is spent..

This business should be temporal not permanent...enjoy while it's good and save when it gets bad endure.,things will pick up I beleive in quarter 2..quarter 1 is generally not the best financially
